BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Kelly Clarkson - Love So Soft

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 25 2017, 07:11 PM

Taken from the album thread, but Kelly is popular enough on here to get another topic for her singles.

Apparently titled 'Love So Soft' and we are expecting it to be with us very soon as she is performing on GMA on 8th September!

Posted by: Liаm Aug 25 2017, 07:23 PM

I forgot to post yday but Sam ofd here told me on ATRL someone said that this is her biggest chance at a hit in years, it was upbeat despite the title with horns featuring, and the thread got taken down so I am thinking the description was true ohmy.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 25 2017, 08:11 PM

Oh wow! Really hope we get a clip at least to tide us over until premiere!

Posted by: Cameron Aug 25 2017, 08:17 PM

Kelly always smashes with her lead singles!!! Yas

Posted by: all is vanity. Aug 25 2017, 09:07 PM

The title is intriguing.

I think it's Never Again that's the exception rather than them (well and Miss Independent I guess) laugh.gif Heartbeat Song still went gold and Mr Know It All silver, lus both were top 5s. She's always consistent, on a slightly lesser to Pink but equally doesn't really get the credit for it.

Posted by: kye Aug 26 2017, 03:47 PM

i am SO ready for this. i'll be so let down if it's country-esque though laugh.gif

Nah it's more soulful.

Posted by: kye Aug 26 2017, 03:55 PM

i know but she somehow always manages to sneak some country in there ha

She filmed the video yesterday and the song is apparently dropping on Thursday 7th... biggrin.gif

That's true.

There's a flyer of Kelly Clarkson from RRP/Atlantic Records where this release date is mentioned (Available September 7, 2017) without the name of the track.

Posted by: Saenerys Aug 28 2017, 09:01 PM

This is so much sooner than I expected! I knew there were rumours of an April release but I took those with a pinch of salt. My guess would be that the label want to release in Q4 to hopefully try and get some decent Christmas sales! biggrin.gif Fingers crossed, I'm so ready for new Kelly!!!! *.*

Posted by: Envoirment Aug 30 2017, 01:29 AM

So excited for this! Apparantley she's going to be channeling 90s Whitney/Mariah, cannot wait to hear it *_*

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 30 2017, 02:32 PM

AllAccess seem to think the song will be going for top 40 radio adds from the 12th Sept! Impacting more or less straight away. Good news ohmy.gif

Posted by: Cameron Sep 6 2017, 10:22 PM

If the live clip in her youtube live stream is anything to go by this is going to be MASSIVE

Posted by: Cameron Sep 6 2017, 10:22 PM

out 6am in the US so should be 11am here!

Posted by: Ryan. Sep 7 2017, 10:07 AM

It's ok on first listen, not as instant as most of her recent singles so we shall see how it grows!

Posted by: THEO. Sep 7 2017, 10:09 AM

This is excellent! Much better than "Heartbeat Song" and "Mr Know it All" already, it's a lot more soulful than anything she's released since Thankful! It ends abruptly though laugh.gif

Posted by: Ryan. Sep 7 2017, 10:16 AM

Definitely helps it click quicker!

Posted by: AdamAloud Sep 7 2017, 10:18 AM

I like it but not as much as her other lead singles on first listen.

Posted by: Saenerys Sep 7 2017, 10:27 AM

It's very Meghan Trainor second era isn't it?

The video is a MASSIVE step up from the last era where she was just sort of there in the videos for Heartbeat Song, Invincible and Piece by Piece, whereas here I'm loving all the different scenes and set ups that are going on. Kelly looking incredible as well wub.gif

Posted by: Rob S Sep 7 2017, 10:34 AM

Yesss this is super duper <3 pls smash! The video is magnificent as well.

Posted by: White Mustang Sep 7 2017, 10:44 AM

I'm glad she's put a lot of effort in, but what a mess of a video...it just doesn't mesh well together for me.

Posted by: Mullo Sep 7 2017, 11:00 AM

Love it
If radio get behind this it'll do well

Posted by: Regina Sep 7 2017, 11:10 AM

LOOOOOOOVE

Posted by: Liаm Sep 7 2017, 12:39 PM

This is by far her weakest lead sad.gif Really disappointed.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Sep 7 2017, 01:13 PM

Hmmmm

Posted by: Liаm Sep 7 2017, 01:24 PM

I think this might actually her worst single for me period, let alone lead :/ It's just not growing sad.gif

Posted by: Spin Sep 7 2017, 01:50 PM

The verses are quite catchy but I'm not really feeling those choruses unsure.gif very monotone imo

Posted by: hightones Sep 7 2017, 02:26 PM

Love her music.

Posted by: Bjork Sep 7 2017, 02:37 PM

not super super loving it either on 1st listen

Posted by: UltraReputation Sep 7 2017, 02:44 PM

This is FAB. <3

Posted by: truly talented Sep 7 2017, 02:46 PM

Verses are ok but I don't like the Chorus at all. Not her usual standard but I like the video.

Posted by: Lee_J11 Sep 7 2017, 03:30 PM

Chorus is rather limp isn't it sad.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 7 2017, 03:37 PM

I really like it. Took getting used to, but it's really good!

Need to watch the video though!

Posted by: Cameron Sep 7 2017, 05:09 PM

The video is bonkers, absolutely loving this!

Posted by: Regina Sep 7 2017, 05:25 PM

The vid is brilliantly bonkers. Plus she looks so gorgeous, especially in that Belle dress and the blue outfit in the house wub.gif

Posted by: Cameron Sep 7 2017, 05:27 PM

I just get so emotional over Kelly. I can see me grinding to this in a club laugh.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Sep 7 2017, 05:28 PM

The video is AMAZING.

The song is... okay. I'll see if it grows.

Posted by: Cameron Sep 7 2017, 05:30 PM

This is 100% a grower. Her ad-libs are just killing me

Posted by: Regina Sep 7 2017, 05:35 PM

I think this is one of my favourite Kelly singles already laugh.gif it's so different in sound but yet so...her.

Posted by: vibe Sep 7 2017, 06:04 PM

This is the perfect description of it for sure.

I can't help but feel like this is a very odd choice of lead single. The video almost makes it work and I can almost see what she was attempting but it ends up feeling very limp and lacking in any kind of memorable hook.

I don't hate it and it may grow on me but I think she is above this.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 8 2017, 12:36 PM

I honestly don't get the "Meghan Trainor era 2" comparisons at all lmao . These lyrics, although hardly ivor novello worthy, are 1000x more mature and far better. I just think it's a bit of a lazy comparison tbh. Meghan didn't invent the doo wop pop sound lmao. (Which this is barely even that tbh)

Also this is majorly growing on me too.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 8 2017, 01:00 PM

It's not her second era it's her first though, that had that sound. I think I get what Sean means though, this is like a step up from that sound so it's kind of what the follow-up to Title would have been had she not changed it up. It's not terrible because I enjoyed Title but I'm just not finding myself going back to it a lot.

Posted by: Rob S Sep 8 2017, 01:03 PM

I did admittedly feel a little bit disappointed in the chorus so I think it's like Taylors track where the chorus took time to grow on people whereas initially it wasn't as instant?

Her voice on this is so flawless as always so I think that's really what swooped in my first post about it really (& the OMG Kellys back, slay etc lol)

I'm just happy we got Pink & Kelly back at basically the same time tbh!

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit Sep 8 2017, 01:06 PM

Love So Soft is ok.

Posted by: Jack Sep 9 2017, 02:28 PM

I really like this! It is very Meghan Trainor but that's no bad thing imo. I loved Meghan's second era.

Meghan certainly didn't invent the sound but shes the only comparison I could think of!

Having that said, this is finally (but slowly) starting to click with me. It's the bits when it slows down just before the chorus that I am enjoying wub.gif

Leads mini singles rate:

Amazing, listen to regularly
Miss Independent
Since U Been Gone
Mr Know It All
Catch My Breath

Great
Never Again
My Life Would Suck Without You

Acceptable
Love So Soft
Heartbeat Song

Hardly listen to/meh
Underneath The Tree (even at Christmas time I hardly listen to this and often forget about it as I always go back to Wrapped In Red)

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit Sep 10 2017, 02:37 PM

I looove Wrapped in Red ... the song - Underneath the tre and the rest is laughable.

As do I which is why I don't really listen to Underneath The Tree. Maybe it's because it's a semi romantic song and I'm single af? laugh.gif

ALSO THIS GIF

Posted by: THEO. Sep 10 2017, 09:25 PM

Absolutely screaming that "Piece by Piece" is outselling this by almost 10x on iTunes - such a shame that she's overshadowing her own comeback laugh.gif sad.gif Although that is a tune and deserves a much better peak than #90 or whatever it got.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 12 2017, 02:20 AM

This has finally hit me, I couldn't leave Kelly out in the cold for too long laugh.gif It's still one of her weakest leads for me but I love them all so it's not a damnation. SUBG, My Life and Never Again are all in my top 40 of all time (maybe NA just outside). As Sean said, I adore the bit where it slows down for the chorus <3

01 Since U Been Gone (of course an ultimate belt it out ANTHEM)
02 My Life... (such anuplifting pop song)
03 Never Again (SO underrated, I love the rockiness to it but I can see why others don't like it and it wasn't the best single, but then nothing on My December was as perfect as the album is)
--------
04 Mr Know It All (again underrated, it was a nice change of pace and I adore it even if Stronger should have been the lead)
05 Catch My Breath (lovely bop, I love it more than I realise when I listen to it)
06 Miss Independent (a tune)
07 Love So Soft
08 Underneath The Treee (I'm not much of a Christmassy person in the first place so Xmas songs suffer in my rankings but this is deffo a fave Xmas song, lovely little song)
09 Heartbeat Song (a bop but I'd have chosen like 4 or 5 songs as the lead over this, although it did well in the UK so it must be doing something right)

Even HS is a 8.5/10 tho oops

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 12 2017, 02:30 AM

Ahhh. So pleased to see it's grown on you! The slowing down before the chorus actually reminds me a fair bit of Adele - Rumour Has It. But I might be making that up as I haven't listened to that song in a while haha.

SLAYED obviously.

Although THAT note, she said in a video on FB today, that she is saving the note for tour and not gonna attempt it when promoing haha. I think it's due to her having to get up early and her throat not being 100% first thing in the morning (but I believe she'd be able to hit that note whether it's 5am or 5pm laugh.gif)

Posted by: Regina Sep 12 2017, 01:49 PM

I guess it's insurance too, if she went for that note all the time she might risk damaging her voice. I know Celine Dion pre-reocrds some of the more difficult notes in
a few songs, it's how she's kept her voice so strong. Obviously they can both hit these notes but it's better to be safe.

Kelly’s not really been a “peak high to start” since about 2005. I think everyone is more interested in how the album will do anyway.

It's doing decently in the US and climbing radio there nicely. It's somewhat stable on iTunes there too.

In the UK no sad.gif It's playlisted by BBC Radio 2, but that's the only significant station I can see playing it. BBC Radio 1 have played it a few times, they may playlist it this week/next week? Capital haven't touched it though. They played "Heartbeat Song" a lot, so without the support from capital this may struggle. But we'll see - its airplay is just starting out!

Posted by: StillJupiter Sep 27 2017, 08:40 AM

No shade, but I don't get the surprise every time a female artist over a certain age is snubbed by Radio 1 and Capital. It happens literally 9 times out of 10. At some point you have to start out not expecting Radio 1 or Capital to support them, never mind what level of success or impact they've had before.

It will happen to the likes of Jess Glynne and Ariana Grande one day too, when they're no longer flavour of the month or the age that the big stations arbitraily decide is appropriate for a female pop singer to be and still be cool or relevant.

Posted by: kye Sep 27 2017, 09:14 AM

i think it's less surprise & more disappointment because we were holding out hope that Kelly may be an anomaly (like P!nk).

Posted by: Saenerys Sep 27 2017, 05:01 PM

The problem is the genre - Heartbeat Song was so pop whereas Love So Soft is the opposite and isn't suited for R1, really.

Posted by: cqmerqn Sep 27 2017, 08:50 PM

Love So Soft IS suited to R1 I’d say?
