Top 5 time! 5. Lights & Motion - Fireflies (2015) The second entry from Lights & Motion here and one that continued the epic, emotional, post rock sounds that The Spectacular Quiet started, except this one took things to truly stratospheric levels and has one of the most emotional and beautiful builds and climaxes I've heard this (well, last) decade, and I loved it so much I sent it myself to Unknown Pleasures where it was a pleasingly big hit. Starting out as a looping piano, it gradually unravels as the drums kick in before fading into the twilight and bursting back into life with screeching guitars, choirs and frantic drums creating a truly vibrant and bright atmosphere in the darkness just like the titular insects do. Every time those drums and guitars kick in, I still get massive goosebumps and it's just one of those songs that just really makes you feel better about life for those five minutes, and it came at a time in my life that I really needed that. Listen, look up at the sky and get ready for the feels <3

Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) (2010) And now possibly the song that really got me into Arcade Fire in the first place and to this date, it remains possibly my favourite song of theirs, maybe give or take between Keep The Car Running and Rebellion (Lies). The real selling point here is the vocals, I'd never really heard Regine take the lead vocal in their songs before and I was blown away how beautiful her voice was, it's so seething and almost Blondie-like and I love it. It is really in full power mode here and it's accompanied by an always excellent Arcade Fire symphonic backing consisting of guitars, siren synths and a whole host of other instruments that allows you to truly get swept away in the song's urgency. They make the song that corresponds with The Suburb's trouble in the changing hometown themes at it's most urgent and that is conveyed in the lyrics meaning as well. A beautiful composition and the song that made me a belated but nonetheless fully on board fan of their work.

Alan Walker - Faded (2016) So I was wrong about Don't You Worry Child being my only big UK hit in my top 10, I forgot about this, guess I'm not as indie as I want to be yet, but nonetheless, Faded being such a big hit relatively recently does give me hope that sometimes a great dance track can break through, and what a great dance track this is. Taking more influence from older dance styles like trance than bloody, overused tropical house/future bass and all the better for it, Faded has an incredible breakdown that would be wonderful on its own but it is nonetheless elevated by the addition of...whatsherface who sounds a lot like Ellie Goulding, but her vocals are beautiful and add a real sense of longing and emotional breakdown to the track that makes it all the more emotionally resonant, it really gets me particularly when she says 'Atlantis' as it's almost grave acceptance that the protagonist's lover is gone forever, although we might be getting into 'reading too much into it territory' here xx Nonetheless, a wonderful song and deserved title of my favourite chart hit of the decade or is it?

CHVRCHES – The Mother We Share (2013) ...well kinda, if you count #38 as a hit, I guess this counts instead. This charting still remains one of my favourite chart moments of the decade and I'm relishing it as it's not like it will ever happen again. CHVRCHES have been one of the absolute best finds of the decade pour moi, they're excellent brand of electronic indie synth pop has always been a treat and this was the song that really introduced me to them (well, I guess Lies came first, but I actually never got into that as much) and still contains everything that I really love about them with it's distorted sounds fitted with shimmering electric keyboards fitted with Laura's simple but effective vocals always gives me the shivers and much like Arcade Fire, turned them into an artist whom I will always check out albums from, and I don't usually listen to them xx This was initially 3rd in my 2013 EOY, but it has risen now as its appeal has only got better over the years and they have stayed with some top quality music which has allowed me to just keep coming back to it.

Faded is definitely one of my favourite songs of the decade as well (the vocals are from Iselin Solheim by the way!) so it's amazing to see that in your top three! I really enjoyed Don't You Worry Child, Luna and The Mother We Share too so a really good top ten here!

Two Steps from Hell - Miracles I mean really, you could've seen this coming, especially with how much they've featured here as well as the influx of classical/electronic hybrids from post 2015 have featured, it only makes sense that the song that largely introduced me to all of that is my number 1 of the decade. I do feel in many ways this song has been responsible for big changes in my music taste over the years, it was the most wonderful late night YouTube find I've pretty much ever found and to this day, it still makes me feel all kinds of emotions and tranquillity in it's five minute runtime. It manages to be both epic and relaxing at the same time, which was I gather largely the point of the album it came from as a break from their epic, soundtrack trailer music, as the strings are peaceful rather than dramatic and a light choir and some electronic influences that accompany the rising symphony as the track goes. It is dream-like and ethereal in quality and from the moment it starts, you feel like you're being transported to a higher, more beautiful place and that only increases as the track builds to it's stunning conclusion that still makes me well up. But outside the music, this track was responsible for a lot of things - it cemented my interest in modern day classical music, came at a time when I was generally disconnecting from the charts as it was, shaped my BJSC nation's general sound, encouraged me to look around these lovely corners of YouTube for similar beautifully underlooked songs like this and much like Fireflies from the same year, it came at a time in my life when I really needed positive, ethereal music to remind me to look forward to the good stuff in life. All things considered, I still consider this to be the most important track to me of the decade and the fact it still sounds just as good today as it did back then has concluded that it is the best fit to be number 1 here, I mean I've wrote two paragraphs about it when I've already written about it before so you know it's good if there's a track that will keep me looking forward and believing in miracles, it's certainly this one~ Thanks for following everyone!
