For most of the last part of the year, I was convinced this would be my EOY #1 but it was not to be. This is the song that really cemented Cavetown as one of the greats in my personal chart, an emotional yet beautiful track that has so much going for it, from the alternative lyrics to the lovely instrumentation to the melody change towards the end of the song. It is the longest runner in my chart right now (and only one week away from matching the overall record) and it certainly deserves to be.

My runner-up this year is a song which completely caught me off guard, as I really wasn't expecting to like a Two Door Cinema Club song so much. I mean, I did like the band, hence why I clicked on the YouTube link when it came out, but within a week it was my favourite song and I was almost surprised at myself for putting it at #1 in my Personal Chart. It's an incredibly funky and upbeat song with a wacky video to add to it, just making it a pleasure to listen to. And in the end it outlived all of their subsequent releases in my chart so certainly the king of their songs.

And so we made it to my fourth EOY #1. Once again this was a song that didn't hit me initially, and when I heard a preview of it whilst listening to a recap of the UK Top 100 (that week when it scraped in at #100) it didn't grab me at all. I think the first time I paid proper attention to it was when it was playing in a study space/café area of my Uni, and I actrually remember coming down the stairs to it being played and thinking 'this is actually a very good song'. And we know the rest of the story from there. Three weeks at the top, 13 weeks in the Top 5 and even managing to sneak back into the Top 10 as Eurovision was dying down. It's a real solid track with great vocals, great instrumentation and great everything else, and I hope you love it too.

Oh! I was hoping Two Door Cinema Club would win, Talk is very catchy. I find funny because I think they used to be more Indie/Rock oriented in the past and now they're doing some 'funky and upbeat song' as you said. tongue.gif
Foals Exit is not bad, but I think I prefer the video to the song tbh. laugh.gif and 7 Years is still my fave in your 'Hall of Fame'. wub.gif

By the way, amazing top 100 Pete. cheer.gif

This is actually quite an indie-heavy list this year! Somehow I thought of you as mostly a dance person :') or is this a recent change that i missed oops

Highest one we have in common is I think your Fall Out Boy in the top 20!

I think it was around 2018 my tastes moved more from dance to indie although I think that's also because dance music started getting a lot worse tongue.gif You can still see a good few tropical house songs in my playlist but I do love a good rock ballad / catchy indie-pop as well! Thanks Jupiter biggrin.gif
