bbc does their new artists thing, 27th november is when it's out. who do you expect to appear? what singers/bands are you looking forward to in twenty eighteen? discuss away~
Tom Walker - was on Radio 1's "brit list" thing before i'd even heard of him so obviously they're quite keen Pale Waves - kinda like The 1975 but with a goth frontwoman. There's A Honey is undeniable tho Khalid (yes he'd be eligible) Sigrid - hard to tell if she'll be a commercial success but she's got Radio 1 backing Not3s Billie Eilish - one of my new faves, the "dont smile at me" ep is really really cool *.* Superorganism - wishful thinking maybe but they're one of the most fascinating new bands around! Yxng Bane Rex Orange County Lewis Capaldi + loads of hip hop/urban artists (Fredo, Lotto Boyzz?) ones i'd like to see on there but most likely won't be: Confidence Man - three killer singles, perched for more ! Sofi Tukker - that double whammy of Fuck They & Best Friend SHOULD make them deserving rite? Fickle Friends - had their shining moment this year with Hello Hello can't see them making a proper breakthrough sadly HMLTD |

Expecting it will be a very hip-hop heavy list indeed! I really couldn't predict specific artists though, I'm a little out of touch with what the new hyped artists are lol ~
Possibly this MoStack person? Since he had a couple of biggish features already. x |

Would Zak Abel be eligible?
He's had an album that charted at #100 out but never had a top 100 single. Aside from his Gorgon City feature 'Unmissable' that charted at #19 |

When did they change the eligibility from lead artist of a top 20 single/album to top 10? Seriously hope this doesn't result in a Khalid nomination. Although if he is nominated, he's unlikely to win as they usually pick British artists.
I'd love a nomination for Sigrid but I doubt she'd make the top five. |

I'm expecting a British male urban singer to win it this year seeing as that's where the trends are going, Not3s seems likely to get big, could see 'My Lover' being a big early 2018 hit - though I think Sound Of has become increasingly less relevant over the past few years... what exactly happened with RAY BLK? Though I suppose she was never going to be big, she only released two singles in 2017 and no album, and no R1 playlisting.

Agree with Not3s and Yxng Bane, both are probably next in line to fully cross over although that depends how long the trend for UK afro rap will continue. Hopefully 'My Lover' becomes a big chart hit for Not3s, it certainly sounds like it could. More recommendations from me are:
Avelino (biggest songs: 1 in a Million/Energy) MoStack (biggest songs: Liar Liar/Screw & Brew) Kojo Funds (biggest songs: Dun' Talkin/Warning) Lotto Boyzz (biggest songs: No Don/Birmingham) Mr Eazi (biggest songs: Leg Over/Skin Tight) |

Omg Sigrid and Billy Eilish featuring would be amazing.
Sigrid's new song "Strangers" is a bop if I ever heard one. |

Would love to see Confidence Man get a nomination, although I don't think they have enough mainstream attention yet to warrant a nod.
One possible band who could get a nod are The Magic Gang. They've had a few songs playlisted by Radio 1 without charting, so I imagine they're in with a shot. |

Lmao I genuinely forgot RAY BLK was a thing and thought RAYE had won Sound of 2017 :') It does indeed seem that this list has become significantly less relevant in recent years unfortunately. |

Wow yeah I completely forgot about RAY BLK too, you’d think she would have tried to capitalise on the publicity or something?

Ray's still unsigned as far as i know, i get the impression she wasn't exactly striving for commercial success!

Slightly surprised to not see Taya on this list (some of you will know her from BJSC) after just working wih Yxng Bane, but it seems Sound Of is going for people who've been active longer.
Khalid appearing after workin with Calvin Harris earlier this year seems like a bit of a farce tbh. |
