Dexton's Top 40 (24/07/2018) (Week 63)



Is that... is that a stagnant Top 5? Almost anyway. Ariana, Drake, & Blonde hold on to their Top 3 monopoly as God Is A Woman blocks In My Feelings from the top spot for a 2nd consecutive week. Panic! At The Disco's High Hopes (5-4) and Ella Mai's Boo'd Up (4-5) switch positions for the only movement near the top, giving Panic! their 7th week in the Top 5. Dua Lipa's New Rules holds the record for most weeks spent in the Top 5 (9 weeks) with Avicii's Without You featuring Sandro Cavazza, Craig David's I Know You featuring Bastille, and George Ezra's Paradise each spending 8 weeks in the Top 5. Unsurprisingly each of them were #1 hits - although New Rules and I Know You only spend 1 week at their peak!

Jonas Blue's Rise featuring Jack & Jack (8-6) shuffles up a bit asdoes Cheat Codes & Little Mix's Only You (10-8) and The Rubens' Never Ever featuring Sarah Aarons (11-9). Never Ever is the Australian bands first Top 10 hit and is actually the first Australian band to ever enter my Top 10!

Paramore edge closer to yet another Top 10 hit with Caught In The Middle (19-12), as does Pink with Whatever You Want (18-14). Tiësto & Dzeko's Jackie Chan featuring Preme & Post Malone (21-15) gives Post his 5th Top 20 single and is the highest and only peaking single for everyone else involved in this track. Also climbing into the Top 20 we have Hilltop Hoods' Clark Griswold featuring Adrian Eagle (26-17) which has given the Aussie hip hop duo their chart debut for me. Previous singles 1955 and Cosby Sweater (if not more) would have definitely been #1s here though if my chart dated back that far There's just one new entry in the Top 20 this week which is a big change after having two completely new Top 2's in the past two weeks. Benny Blanco's Eastside featruing Khalid & Halsey opens at #18 giving Benny Blanco his 1st, Khalid his 11th, and Halsey her 3rd Top 20 hit on my chart. Khalid's almost consistent presence on my chart is back after a short time away and Eastside is likely to be yet another Top 10 hit for him next week after his last two singles flopped (not really, This Way made it to #11 and Ocean #22).

Other climbers are Juice WRLD's Lucid Dreams (23-21), Jax Jones' Ring Ring featuring Mabel & Rich The Kid (29-23), Hayden James' Just Friends featuring Boy Matthews (29-26), OneRepublic's Connection (30-27), and Drake's Don't Matter To Me featuring Michael Jackson (33-32). Not the most thrilling of climbers outside the Top 20 I admit but as we close the chart there are 6 new entries at the bottom! Imagine Dragons' new single Natural (#35) debuts instantly after being released last Tuesday, as does Zedd & Elley Duhë's Happy Now (#36). Credited here as Silk City rather than Diplo & Mark Ronson because my chart is inconsistent, the powerhouse duo's Feel About You featuring Mapei (#37) gives Diplo another Top 40 entry. RAYE is also back in business with Friends (#39), and Galantis make their chart debut with Satisfied featuring MAX (#40) - MAX's previous single Lights Down Low featuring gnash made it to #11 earlier this year, will Satisfied give him another hit? KYLE is another artist adding to the list of artists making their Dexton debuts with Playinwitme featuring Kehlani (#38).

I warned you. I said the album chart would be mixed up this week as I change how I order it... and it sure is a mess Surprisingly though Panic! and Drake continue their hold on the Top 2 (yes, Drake is currently being blocked from both the #1 single and the #1 album which is unlike the biggest official charts right now ) 6 new entries to the album chart though with 3 of which in the Top 3. Panic! At The Disco's Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! enters at #3, and the bands 2016 album Death Of a Bachelor re-enters at #4. Green Day's American Idiot is by far the oldest album to have entered my chart debuts at #5. If you're wondering wtf is going on - my album chart is now based on plays rather than just my random extremely thought-out ordering which I normally do. Albums with songs I've played at least half of chart, whilst others do not.
