I can see both new albums selling well for both and when it all ends for both bands in a few years or so there won't be much of a sales difference between both although I would think take that especially Gary will be a lot richer due to royalties.

... Nobody said either of those things nor was it referenced as such in the said article. A sign of youthful sensibility perhaps, though you're right they're both on same levels of achievement. If you are referring to my want for them to remain the biggest selling boyband in the UK that's just natural as a fan. Based on Official Charts Company UK sales as it stands at the moment: TT: 13.7 mil albums / 10.2 mil singles = 23.9 million Westlife: 12 mil albums / 7.2 mil singles = 19.2 million 4.7 million in total more records sold by TT. However TT were a huge 7.5 million records behind when they got back together in 2005, so you never know. You know what though? It doesn't matter there's more to life than two pop bands. You'll see that one day. Ultimately it's music not stats that may or may not out live both groups. It's just nice to know TT have sold so well. What I will say however is, TT fans accepted when WL were millions of records sold ahead of them in the UK with no fuss all those years. Then it changed in the other direction with TT currently millions more sold than Westlife in the UK. Difference being WL fans unlike Take That fans have a hard time accepting this change, which I don't understand as Westlife have sold slightly more worldwide. So why the big fuss over the UK? You know Everything Changes right? However, with Westlife's return I hope their fans have matured as well. Hopefully the new music will reflect this. Well i can't question your opinion for the general approach. But personally I remember when Take that came back their fans claiming take that were gods compared to westlife and how chart position and sales were not reasonable nowadays (back then). But anyway. Take that had all the push from the media in the UK back then and during their come back as i understand it was the top english boyband england had exposed.... Unlike Westlife who were mostly rejected by people who didnt like them or even didn't want to like them. Anyway good luck to both. Excluding RObbies and a little bit of Gary's arrogance, take that are good fellas as well and i respect them. |

Out of curiosity here are the ten places the past year Take That & Westlife were most viewed on youtube & streamed.
Highlighted in bold a nation in largest top 10 IFPI music market for 2017. Top 10 places listening and streaming past year TAKE THAT 1.London,UK (Europe) 2.Santiago,Chile (South America) 3.Dublin,Ireland (Europe) 4.Rome,Italy (Europe) 5.Milan,Italy (Europe) 6.Lima,Peru (South America) 7.Tel Aviv,Israel (Asia) 8.Budapest,Hungary (Europe) 9.Sao Paulo,Brazil (South America) 10.Liverpool,UK (Europe) 6 Europe, 3 South America & 1 Asia. Other highest places from other continents for past year: 24.Sydney,Australia (Australasia) 49.New York,USA (North America) - None in top 100 (Africa) Total places out of 100: 66 Europe, 13 South America, 12 Asia, 5 Australasia, 4 North America & Africa none. WESTLIFE 1.Jakarta,Indonesia (Asia) 2.Bangkok,Thailand (Asia) 3.Quezon City,Philippines (Asia) 4.Kaula Lumper,Malaysia (Asia) 5.Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam (Asia) 6.Surabaya,Indonesia (Asia) 7.Hanoi,Vietnam (Asia) 8.Makati,Philippines (Asia) 9.Cebu City,Philippines (Asia) 10.Davao City,Philippines (Asia) 10 - Asia Other highest places from other continents for past year: 16.London,UK (Europe) 21.Nairobi,Kenya (Africa) 29.Lima,Peru (South America) 39.Sydney,Australia (Australasia) 43.New York,USA (North America) Total places out of 100: 81 Asia, 5 North America, 4 Africa, 4 Europe, 3 Australasia and 3 South America. Top 10 countries listening and streaming past year TAKE THAT 1.UK (Europe) 2.Italy (Europe) 3.Germany (Europe) 4.Brazil (South America) 5.USA (North America) 6.Spain (Europe) 7.Argentina (South America) 8.Chile (South America) 9.Ireland (Europe) 10.Mexico (North America) 5 Europe, 3 South America & 2 North America Other highest nations from other continents for past year: 15.Australia (Australasia) 17.Japan (Asia) 49.South Africa (Africa) Total countries out of 100: 43 Europe, 24 Asia, 12 North America, 10 South America, 9 Africa & 2 Australasia. WESTLIFE 1.Indonesia (Asia) 2.Philippines (Asia) 3.Vietnam (Asia) 4.Thailand (Asia) 5.USA (North America) 6.UK (Europe) 7.Malaysia (Asia) 8.India (Asia) 9.Taiwan (Asia) 10.South Korea (Asia) 8 Asia, 1 Europe & 1 North America Other highest nations from other continents for past year: 11.Brazil (South America) 20.South Africa (Africa) 22.Australia (Australasia) Total countries out of 100: 33 Asia, 30 Europe, 19 Africa, 8 North America, 7 South America & 3 Australasia. They interestingly have different areas of popularity from each other. In terms of TT Wonderland Live Tour last year and daring to go to new places, Israel, New Zealand being a first time and Australia after 20+ years. Dubai again after a couple of years. All those cities are represented in the top 100 for past year, except the two NZ cities which didn't make the 100. I think this shows that touring has a huge effect, the fact Tel Aviv shot up to #7 for the year proves this and hopefully they've now learned you need to tour all of these countries to see results. On top 10 countries list, five countries they have never toured, the three South American countries - Chile, Argentina, Brazil and in North America - USA and Mexico. For top 10 cities list, they haven't toured in Chile, Peru, Brazil or Hungary in Europe select cities of popularity. This post has been edited by nirvanamusic: 28th October 2018, 01:22 PM |

*note for any future potential later readers I'll be using this post to keep up to date on certs, figures will change*
With the promo and new reunion Westlife single coming next week on the 11th. Let's see where both groups stand. Based on Official Charts Company UK sales as it stands at the moment: TT: 14.4 mil albums / 13.2 mil singles = 27.6 million Westlife: 12.2 mil albums / 10.4 mil singles = 22.6 million 4 million in total more records sold by TT. However TT were a huge 7.5 million records behind Westlife when they got back together in 2005, so you never know. The climate is so different now that I read someone say that Platinum today for albums would have been the equivalent of 1 million copies sold 10 years ago. The gap will be closed through older songs moving up and new releases, however I'm not so sure. Take That selling 7.5 million records and a further 4 million to go clear is just insane. Everything Changes being scored higher than Pray and Never Forget.
The interesting thing is Sure is higher ranked by general public than by the fanbase, it would appear. Brief instrumental of song is regularly featured in Derry Girls, namely the dramatic change after piano intro and into first chorus. All four comeback chart toppers ranking so highly, especially These Days, always assumed this was fan #1 due to sole week at top and supported as first by them as a three piece. Westlife their four highest are all original songs and their best. Interesting to see how Rule The World would have scored, as we know it was #2 behind Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis for weeks. That song was scored 6.92 overall and would rank second in TT,WL,GB,RW,BM list above behind Patience. This post has been edited by nirvanamusic: 9th April 2019, 02:05 PM |

total album sales of Westlife are a bit over 13.2 million and singles close to 9.9 million in the UK, confirmed via OCC.
They are also certified for around 1.5 million DVDs. do you have a recent OCC article about Take That? |

Amazing kob nirvanamusic! You did a mistake in Westlife album (1999). Never mind. Are there any others sources to get the total sales of certain singles / albuma of Westlife other than bpi certified?
