okay, a day late to this, but it's been 10 years (and a day) since the first episode of Desperate Housewives aired! ohmy.gif Really doesn't feel like that long ago at all, and I'm still recovering from the ending.

Favourite season? Favourite mystery? Favourite characters? Favourite single episode? Favourite EVERYTHING?!~ Season 6 will forever remain the absolute peak of the show for me, had me gripped from start to finish wub.gif

Unlike most I didn't think it died TOTALLY until S8. I gave up after about episode 5 and haven't gone back. It's among my all time fave shows but I cannot tarnish the legacy by watching that UTTER SHIT anymore. It's like a different show.

I mean OBV S1 was technically the best, but I definitely enjoyed S2 most because it hit the ground running and whilst there are a few issues with characterisation, it was still tight, funny and brilliant. S3 was a bit of a mess and it never really recovered. The time shift was an excellent idea and did revamp it a bit, but killing off Edie was a really stupid move. Also the way they treated Bree over the course of the show was ludicrous, she was a different character at about 6 different points, but I still love her most because she is the one I WANT TO BE (despite the string of rubbish men).

Housewife rate:

11 Bree
09 Gabby
02 Lynette
04 Susan
10 Edie
06 Mary Alice

not counting the others 'cos they weren't REAL housewives.

Oh and Betty Applewhite remains amazing. MYES, MYES I CAN.

And obv good old FELICIA TILLMAN, Harriet Sansom Harris is such a great comedic actress (inhabiting what must be one of the best/most iconic recurring TV characters ever on Frasier) and she really brought it to life. They did dilute her somewhat by bringing her back, but it was better than another silly NEW character people cared even less about.

09 Bree
11 Gaby
03 Lynette
08 Susan
07 Edie
05 Mary Alice

John you REALLY need to watch season 8. If you watched season 7 (which IMO is the major low point of the show - the whole Alejandro story pissed me off to no end). And the very last episode is just perfection and all.

Some of the scenes I'll never forget and ones I consider some of the most heartbreaking, beautiful and sheer glorious moments on television EVER are when everyone finally found out Lynette had cancer, when Gaby and Lynette made up after the falling out they had over Lynette's pregnancy lie (idk why but the scene in the hospital where they were both sitting just really hit me), and of course when Angie blew the car up with John Barrowman inside at the end of season 6. "It's in the detonator..." wub.gif Drea de Matteo was just BORN for that role.

My grandma used to be a religious viewer of the show as well and I always remember when I was younger before I watched every season the scene where Bree's trying to get the ice sculpture back to the lane before it melted. She really was the comedy queen <3

HER SON WAS SO f***ING HOT THO

we should totally rank all the hot twinks on the show. apart from Zach bc he's not allowed to participate bc not even good looking.

I did CHEER when Barrowman exploded. If only life would imitate art.

Best but most shocking moment for me was this.

And pretty much anything with Bree. She was definitely my favourite character.
Though Susan in the beginning had some hilarious lines/scenes. Gabby was consistent too.

Posted by: Calum Hood 4th October 2014, 11:37 PM

Oh yes, I definitely agree about that. The supermarket shooting was definitely one of the most chilling / dramatic episodes. Lynette REALLY stood out in that episode as well, which was often difficult for her to do given how much of a sulk and moan she always was.

Posted by: Conderella 5th October 2014, 11:53 AM

I really need to get further than season 3 or something. Don't even remember where I stopped. Haven't watched it in absolute ages.

Consistently shit, yes.

Not feeling all the Lynette hate on here. I loved her.

Posted by: Regina 5th October 2014, 02:24 PM

Lynette was easily the best along with Bree. Susan had her moments and I've already stated my general hatred for Gabby.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 5th October 2014, 02:39 PM

Lynette was an obnoxious, arrogant, opinionated, selfish bitch.

Ikr? *.* fabulous.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 5th October 2014, 02:41 PM

Ordinarily, but she did it with all the charm of a grenade shoved up your chuff. Felicity Huffman is by far the best actress, but Lynette was an inherently vile and unlikeable character. She had the most opportunity for humanity, warmth and love, yet was never anything other than cold and heartless.

All of this. And I'm dead at that first sentence.

Oh and while we're on the topic of how flawless Bree is/was, can we just remind ourselves of this scene please? Her at her absolute best wub.gif (John you won't have seen this but WATCH IT x)

This. Plus Bree's attempted suicide scene were executed brilliantly.

Posted by: Jack 5th October 2014, 05:03 PM

The supermarket episode is easily the most memorable episode I think, I remember being SO hooked throughout. Other poignant moments were the final episode, Edies death and Mikes death (but I hated Mike so so much, was I the only one?!).

Susan was much much more unbearable than Lynette for me, so annoyingly smug and self involved. She was like the Carrie Bradshaw of Desperate Housewives, eugh. Gabby was always my favourite throughout, fabulous but with a heart of gold wub.gif Bree was a close second, and Edie third.

I thought that Lynette was ruined by Tom, who kept getting the power. He held her back a LOT.

Can't believe it's been 10 years!

Used to love the series and always look forward to seeing it.

My fave was the 1st by far and then the one with the shooting. Which one was that? Great scene!

I literally cannot at this sentence. Tom was ruined by Lynette who definitely wore the trousers in the relationship. It actually felt like he was a *character* when she wasn't around him.

Posted by: !Khimaros! 5th October 2014, 09:49 PM

No, absolutely not!

He was an awful douchebag and was like a child in a sweet shop, throwing atantrum and making Lynette give up her career tme and time again for his floppy mess of one.

Yes.

Tom was abysmal ALL BY HIMSELF

Posted by: Calum Hood 5th October 2014, 11:29 PM

Far more likeable than Orson, Mike or Carlos though, let's be honest.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 5th October 2014, 11:32 PM

Well, Mike wasn't really unlikeable, just terrible. I mean ''mans man'' isn't something I'm ever likely to warm to. Carlos was a bit of a dick, but he did feel like he was a human at the heart of it all, even when he was acting all possessive and caveman. I really liked Orson actually. Kyle Mclachlan brought so much to the role, which was incredibly thankless at times, and yeah he became a complete f***wit, but then I guess most people probably would living with a Bree.

Posted by: Calum Hood 5th October 2014, 11:38 PM

Orson was good when he first arrived and he had the ~mystique~ about him, but after the plane crash he was just a bit of extra material when they needed to buff an episode up a bit. Although when Bree found out he was behind the note and that he was stalking her, that was fab.

I've finished this all through some 15 years later and what a show *.*

11 Bree
09 Gabby
08 Lynette
01 Susan
07 Edie
05 Mary Alice

Iconic.

Omg I'm re-watching this for the FOURTH time *.* Watching it all with my aunt, we're just about to finish the first season

My fave tv series of all time. Will never be topped for me.

Bree telling Andrew she'd love him even if he was a murderer and then calling him perverted for being gay rotf.gif Oh Bree sad.gif
