Chart Commentary

On Sunday night, a benefit concert was held in Manchester following the terrorist attack at the MEN Arena just weeks ago. One Love Manchester was headed by Ariana Grande, the artist playing at the arena on the night of the attack. It was a fantastic night of music, to remember the lives lost as well as show defiance against terrorists, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ariana was an absolute star, and as a result, her 2014 single One Last Time, re-released for charity last week, jumps to a brand new peak of #1 in my chart. Previously it had peaked at #10 only two weeks ago, and it becomes Ariana's fifth top 10 hit following Problem, Break Free, Bang Bang and Side to Side.

Ariana Grande
2012 14 Put Your Hearts Up | NAS | 14-X (1 week)
2013 16 The Way (feat. Mac Miller) | 1 | 39-X-37-16-24-36-X (5 non-consecutive weeks)
2013 39 Baby I | 2 | 39-X (1 week)
2013 05 Right There (feat. Big Sean) | 3 | 28-34-21-15-5-13-22-29-X (8 weeks)
2014 01 Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea) | 1 | 4-1-1-1-1-2-4-7-10-12-15-19-25-32-33-30-27-15-18-24-30-33-38-X-22-31-X (25 non-consecutive weeks)
2014 01 Break Free (feat. Zedd) | 2 | 1-3-5-9-15-24-22-25-21-22-31-35-38-X (13 weeks)
2014 01 Bang Bang (Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj) | FEAT | 1-3-12-20-11-15-23-26-30-37-29-37-31-38-39-X (15 weeks)
2014 40 Love Me Harder (Ariana Grande & The Weeknd) | 3 | 40-X (1 week)
2014 38 Santa Tell Me | NAS | 38-X (1 week)
2015 01 One Last Time | 4 | 34-24-14-13-18-32-38-X-19-34-40-X-10-14-1-... (13+ non-consecutive weeks)
2015 06 Focus | NAS | 13-6-11-13-22-28-37-X (7 weeks)
2016 05 Dangerous Woman | 1 | 20-5-8-15-23-32-36-X-29-36-X (9 non-consecutive weeks)
2016 03 Into You | 2 | 7-6-4-3-4-6-11-18-19-24-32-34-39-X (13 weeks)
2016 01 Side To Side (feat. Nicki Minaj) | 3 | 23-25-32-X-10-8-5-1-1-4-6-9-12-13-18-24-29-36-37-X (18 non-consecutive weeks)
2017 18 Everyday (feat. Future) | 4 | 37-28-27-21-18-21-27-37-X (8 weeks)

The highest new entry this week comes from American singer/songwriter Julia Michaels. Uh Huh is Julia's second hit, the first being Issues earlier this year which peaked at #15. Uh Huh instantly outpeaks that, debuting at #3. As a songwriter, she has two #1s in my chart - Justin Bieber's Sorry in 2015, and Fifth Harmony's All In My Head (Flex) in 2016.

Julia Michaels
2017 15 Issues | 1 | 25-39-X-35-27-17-15-20-28-34-X (9 non-consecutive weeks)
2017 03 Uh Huh | 2 | 3-... (1+ weeks)

Also new in this week's top 10 is Jasmine Thompson's Old Friends. It's Jasmine's fourth top 10 hit, and the first since Rise Up last year, a collaboration with Thomas Jack. Out of her four top 10 hits, two are as a lead artist, and she matches the #6 peak of Adore from 2015, her highest peaking song. The version of Old Friends that I've charted is specifically the Jonas Blue remix. Whilst this doesn't give Jonas Blue a proper credit, it's technically his third top 10 following #10 hit Fast Car and his biggest hit to date, #5 hit Mama (back up 1 place to #11 this week).

Jasmine Thompson
2014 40 Sun Goes Down (Robin Schulz feat. Jasmine Thompson) | FEAT | 40-X (1 week)
2015 06 Adore | 1 | 6-11-18-27-32-X (5 weeks)
2015 09 Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) [Felix Jaehn feat. Jasmine Thompson] | FEAT | 28-9-12-19-29-X-23-33-X (7 non-consecutive weeks)
2016 10 Rise Up (Thomas Jack & Jasmine Thompson) | FEAT | 38-10-16-30-X (4 weeks)
2017 06 Old Friends (Jonas Blue Remix) | 2 | 6-... (1+ weeks)

Fifth Harmony made their return this week, releasing their first single as a four-piece, Down. The title is unfortunately apt for the group, who score their second lowest peaking track to date, ending a run of six consecutive top 10 hits including three #1s (BO$$, Work from Home, Flex). Only their debut single, #16 hit Miss Movin' On, peaked lower than Down's current #15 position. There's a possibility that it may change all this of course and climb into the top 10 at a later date. Interestingly though, they fail to get past former bandmate Camila Cabello's solo hit Crying in the Club, which spends a third week in the top 10, down 3 to #9.

The highest climber this week comes from Niall Horan, who soars up 16 places with Slow Hands to a new peak of #12 following his One Love Manchester performance. Slow Hands is in prime position to become his second top 10 hit next week, following #5 hit This Town, as is Miley Cyrus' Malibu which jumps 10 places to #20 this week after peaking at #14 in week 1.

Manel Navarro leaves the chart with Eurovision track Do It for Your Lover, but as one door closes, another opens and Manel debuts at #14 with Keep on Falling, his third hit. We see chart debuts from Swae Lee (alongside French Montana on Unforgettable at #28), Anton (Ewald, of Melodifestivalen fame, not to be confused with fellow MFest contestant Anton Hagman who's at #8 this week) and X Factor group 5 After Midnight.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for putting the right song at #1 this week. wub.gif

I'm disappointed in Julia Michael's follow up single. sad.gif

Great climb for Niall this week. yahoo.gif

Fifth Harmony look like they might struggle as a four-piece. ohmy.gif

Hi Joseph hi.gif

Nice to see Ariana at #1 and glad you're also loving the new Julia Michaels song - it's lovely though I can't see it being a hit sad.gif

Slow Hands hit me after the tribute performance, it's a LOT better than This Town music.gif

Up In Here is actually quite the tune!

Didn't expect to see you chart Unforgettable, doesn't at all sound up your street! ohmy.gif

Hi Joseph!

1. Ariana Grande - One Last Time - 34-24-14-13-18-32-38-X-19-34-40-X-10-14-1-
3. Julia Michaels - Uh Huh - 3- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** The title of the song kinda puts me off it lol but it's actually not too bad (though it's nowhere near as good as Issues), not sure I can really see it being a hit though.
5. Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj - Swish Swish - 2-3-5-
9. Camila Cabello - Crying in the Club - 4-6-9-
10. Rita Ora - Your Song - 7-10-
11. Jonas Blue feat. William Singe - Mama - 5-6-14-12-11-
12. Niall Horan - Slow Hands - 27-38-34-28-12- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** And about time too dance.gif
13. Selena Gomez - Bad Liar - 5-8-13-
15. Fifth Harmony feat. Gucci Mane - Down - 15- This really is weak, they really needed to come back with a killer song and instead they came back with THIS unsure.gif it can potentially become a minor hit I think but I'm really not surprised it's flopping for now!
16. Bebe Rexha feat. Lil Wayne - The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody) - 2-7-10-16-
18. Harry Styles - Sign of the Times - 1-1-1-4-3-3-5-12-13-18-
20. Miley Cyrus - Malibu - 14-25-30-20-
23. Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back - 7-2-4-8-11-22-20-23-
24. The Vamps & Martin Jensen - Middle of the Night - 12-1-2-4-13-18-24-
25. Carly Rae Jepsen - Cut to the Feeling - 31-25-
27. Cheat Codes feat. Demi Lovato - No Promises - 1-2-2-4-7-10-13-17-24-23-27- ** LONGEST RUNNER **
28. French Montana feat. Swae Lee - Unforgettable - 28- One of the few urban tracks I'm currently enjoying smile.gif I think this could challenge for No. 2 next week the way it's going.
30. Little Mix feat. Stormzy - Power - 19-30- OK you were right, it's MUCh higher in my chart this week biggrin.gif though I'm sure it will rebound for you soon too.
32. Charlie Puth - Attention - 15-3-5-10-13-23-25-32-
37. Lady Gaga - The Cure - 3-5-8-18-23-30-34-37-
39. 5 After Midnight - Up In Here - 39- Let's face it they could have released almost anything it was never really going to be a hit. That said, this isn't too bad a song, and I think those calling it a JLS reject are being a bit hasrh.

Great chart as always smile.gif

Hi Joseph.

1. Ariana Grande - One Last Time - 34-24-14-13-18-32-38-X-19-34-40-X-10-14-1- good to see this get a good official chart peak! I haven't put it back on my playlist but it is a good song and deserves its chart position.
2. Martin Garrix & Troye Sivan - There For You - 20-1-2- this seems to be flopping eek. perhaps he'll have to do his next single with Justin Bieber to get another big hit. laugh.gif I actually think this is a real possibility though.
3. Julia Michaels - Uh Huh - 3- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** Not feeling this much, preferred Issues meself
6. Jasmine Thompson - Old Friends (Jonas Blue Remix) - 6- decent.
12. Niall Horan - Slow Hands - 27-38-34-28-12- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** well at least This Town isn't his biggest hit now.
15. Fifth Harmony feat. Gucci Mane - Down - 15- oops at its chart performance. laugh.gif
28. French Montana feat. Swae Lee - Unforgettable - 28- wasn't expecting this to make your top 40, big summer tune! dance.gif

good chart!

Hi Joseph

Yes at Ariana at number 1. I preferred to include her beautiful rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow on my personal chart though. tongue.gif
Julia Michaels Uh Huh is ok but Issues is miles better. wub.gif
First time listening to Jasmine Thompson's Old Friends (Jonas Blue Remix). Jonas Blue presence is very evident. I like it.
The biggest surprise is 5AM here. ohmy.gif Is there a new hairy guy in this group? wink.gif

Good chart!

Heya Jo!

1. Ariana Grande - One Last Time - 34-24-14-13-18-32-38-X-19-34-40-X-10-14-1- circumstances aside, this has always been my favourite from her off that era so I'm glad it's do very well in the chart and improvisng on a rubbish #24 peak peak in the process!
2. Martin Garrix & Troye Sivan - There For You - 20-1-2-
3. Julia Michaels - Uh Huh - 3- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY **
5. Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj - Swish Swish - 2-3-5- better on 2nd listen, oops at Katy not being top 5 possibly this week ohmy.gif
10. Rita Ora - Your Song - 7-10- this is good although far from her best and I can't fully grow to love it hence maybe being the same for others in the official chart going by it's chart performance!
12. Niall Horan - Slow Hands - 27-38-34-28-12- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER **
18. Harry Styles - Sign of the Times - 1-1-1-4-3-3-5-12-13-18-
20. Miley Cyrus - Malibu - 14-25-30-20-
23. Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back - 7-2-4-8-11-22-20-23-
25. Carly Rae Jepsen - Cut to the Feeling - 31-25- again not her best but decent enough!
27. Cheat Codes feat. Demi Lovato - No Promises - 1-2-2-4-7-10-13-17-24-23-27- ** LONGEST RUNNER ** this one's a bit of a grower for me but the chorus drop is a bit average, Demi sounds lush tho wub.gif
32. Charlie Puth - Attention - 15-3-5-10-13-23-25-32-
36. Sabrina Carpenter - Thumbs - 7-16-24-36-
37. Lady Gaga - The Cure - 3-5-8-18-23-30-34-37-
38. Maggie Lindemann - Pretty Girl - 13-2-6-12-22-31-X-36-38- I've gone right off the remix, so bland and non eventful sad.gif this is still lovely as per tho!

Woop! cheer.gif

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for putting the right song at #1 this week. wub.gif

I'm disappointed in Julia Michael's follow up single. sad.gif

Great climb for Niall this week. yahoo.gif

Fifth Harmony look like they might struggle as a four-piece. ohmy.gif

Please be sure to check out my chart for this week — Top 40 Countdown by awardinary (W/E 15/06/2017).

Fab chart! cool.gif

Hi Andrew biggrin.gif

It just had to be Ari wub.gif
Niall's song has finally hit me! Took longer than I thought it would but I'm really enjoying it now.
Camila definitely feels like the missing part of Down sad.gif although it is a pretty basic Work from Home retread anyway unfortunately!

Hi Seph,

One Last time is fab I think I may chart it this week!

Uh-Huh is good but no hit imo ohmy.gif

Need to hear that Jasmine Thompson song ohmy.gif

Down and Forgettable are okay could grow

Great Chart biggrin.gif

Hi Harry biggrin.gif

I'm not sure if Uh Huh could be a hit or not, I didn't think Issues sounded like a hit so I don't know what to expect from this laugh.gif

Didn't expect to see you chart Unforgettable, doesn't at all sound up your street! ohmy.gif

Hi mdh! biggrin.gif

The Julia song is excellent, so much more instant than Issues for me! I hope it can be a hit heart.gif
That's when Slow Hands hit me also! Really great track wub.gif
Unforgettable has been slowly growing on me for weeks now, a definite grower!

Hi Joseph!

3. Julia Michaels - Uh Huh - 3- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** The title of the song kinda puts me off it lol but it's actually not too bad (though it's nowhere near as good as Issues), not sure I can really see it being a hit though.
12. Niall Horan - Slow Hands - 27-38-34-28-12- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** And about time too dance.gif
15. Fifth Harmony feat. Gucci Mane - Down - 15- This really is weak, they really needed to come back with a killer song and instead they came back with THIS unsure.gif it can potentially become a minor hit I think but I'm really not surprised it's flopping for now!
39. 5 After Midnight - Up In Here - 39- Let's face it they could have released almost anything it was never really going to be a hit. That said, this isn't too bad a song, and I think those calling it a JLS reject are being a bit hasrh.

Great chart as always smile.gif

Hi Mango! biggrin.gif

3. I'm hoping radio at least give it a chance, you'd think they would after Issues but both Radio 1 and Capital have snubbed Hailee's follow-up to Starving so who knows drama.gif
12. Knew you'd be happy! heehee.gif
15. It's growing on me but yes, still weak for them sad.gif I thought their comeback would be a contender for #1 in my chart like Work from Home and Flex were upon release but nope, not even close! ohmy.gif
28. Agreed, it's really taken off on Spotify! It's not often you get me liking the urban chart hits but this is quite chilled, I love the vibe it has.
30. It will certainly rebound! Bit of a video effect this week I expect and then further climbs, I prefer it to No More Sad Songs and that made #12 for me so perhaps another top 10 on the cards biggrin.gif
39. I think it's surprisingly good tbh! Barely been able to get it out of my head. Sadly it was always gonna get a frosty reception on Buzzjack drama.gif

Hi Joseph.

Swae Lee - Unforgettable - 28- wasn't expecting this to make your top 40, big summer tune! dance.gif

good chart!

Hey Dan biggrin.gif

1. I'm delighted that it's finally managed a top 10 placing officially, and as high as #2! Amazing song, I just wish it were under better circumstances.
2. It seems to have very minimal airplay so far, not sure what's taking Radio 1 so long to playlist it!
15. No surprise really, it's not strong enough to be an instant hit sad.gif not sure how well I see it doing really!
28. Agreed, think it's gonna be a big summer track! music.gif

I like it.
The biggest surprise is 5AM here. ohmy.gif Is there a new hairy guy in this group? wink.gif

Good chart!

Hi Jason! biggrin.gif

Her version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow is beautiful heart.gif
The Old Friends remix definitely makes Jones Blue's touch apparent! It's really great, think it's my second favourite thing of his after Mama.
!!! I am not as shallow as that thank you dry.gif laugh.gif

Heya Jo!

38. Maggie Lindemann - Pretty Girl - 13-2-6-12-22-31-X-36-38- I've gone right off the remix, so bland and non eventful sad.gif this is still lovely as per tho!

Woop! cheer.gif

Hey Rob! biggrin.gif

1. See I always really liked it, but it's had a whole new lease of life for me this year! I wish it were under better circumstances but better late than never I guess.
5. I'd never have seen that coming! ohmy.gif Poor Katy!
10. It's not her very best but I really love the vibe and I'm impressed she's managed to get a hit so quickly after how Body On Me fared with OA/OS.
27. It was very instant for me heart.gif Cheat Codes are on a roll when it comes to their commercial singles!
38. The remix is good but the original remains the best version for me!
