Will be quite an exciting chart next Friday - Catfish, Sam Smith, Westlife, The Weeknd & Calvin Harris could all possibly debut somewhere within the top 20 region. (will be interesting to see where the new Radiohead gets to aswell)
Strangely enough the one week we'll have a high number of new entries is the one week where there are no random grime songs
Posted by: Bjork 11th January 2019, 06:11 PM
the Radiohead track is not new, was released last September as part of the Special edition of A Moon Shaped Pool it's just new to Spotify etc but all hardcore Radiohead fans already have it

Still 'new' in the sense that it was just released to the public. Funnily enough, I think it's about ten times better than anything on "A Moon Shaped Pool". Best thing they've done since "In Rainbows" (and even that was mostly crap).

In Rainbows is amazing, All I Need alone is worth it I always loved True Love Waits so that was the highlight for me in regards to A Moon Shaped Pool, but was a bit of cheating as the song was very old, rest was ok-ish

There is some decent new music in the chart this week, could see at least 5 to 6 new entries, I would love to see Giant as the next #1, its quite a decent track. Ava should be able to get another week or 2 as the official #1 track.

I don’t think it will now, it’s already been pushed back once because of Let Me Live flopping. This just hasn’t been a good era for them at all.

The problem with these days is there it is just so MOR it’s the lowest common denominator song and as though everyone involved just couldn’t be arsed and just went ‘meh’ when it came to the song.
It’s awful.

Rudimental are a shadow of their former selves, they were good when they made songs like Feel The Love, Not Giving In & Waiting All Night.

It was a great performance indeed.. Why do you believe it is not gonna chart high? It already sold 10k downloads as of now... I see it as a certain Top 5, would have been #1 assuming those streaming points didn't ruin the chart...

To be honest I see Westlife just about missing the top 5, I reckon there be 3 new entries back to back between 6 to 10, but in which order I really don't know, it could be Westlife (6), Sam & Normani (7) and Calvin & Raggy (8), and that's a guess with Jax Jones thrown into the mix somewhere. Saying that the 3 new suspects, they are not really big hitters on Spotify yet.

Westlife charting isnt surprising, they have a big fan base still who will all buy it. I'm more surprised they jeopardised themselves releasing on a Thursday. If Cheryl can get to #19 then Westlife should squeak top15 or 10.

I don't think it's a massive deal Westlife releasing whatever day it's only the fans who will want as high a charting position as possible that'll care but what's the point of doing a Cheryl, it's promoting it and trying to make it a big hit which matters in the long run!

If they keep on decreasing quite a bit by the end of the week, its looking more likely between 11 to 15, as the track is hardly killing it on Spotify. Just have to wait and see if they start free falling. Just imagine if they chart at #11... Buzzjack meltdown

To be fair, I think it's not quite as bad as most of their older songs.
Not that I'd give it the time of day anyway though.

Positive points, it's an upbeat song and it's not a cover their ballad covers in the 2000s were atrocious, Mandy, The Rose, etc etc
Negative points, it's an Ed reject with some of his worst lyrics to date
Posted by: WhoOdyssey 13th January 2019, 05:31 PM
Just because Ed wrote it, it doesn't necessarily make it a reject from him. He writes specifically for other artists as well. I highly doubt Ed wears makeup on Thursdays.

The song does say that the singer DOESN'T wear make-up on Thursday
Posted by: Euphorique 13th January 2019, 07:02 PM
World Of Our Own was a bop. The others I really couldnt care less. I guess Swear It Again and Fool Again were ok. Have to agree most of their number 1s were terrible.

Well actually, it says "I won't wear makeup on Thursday. I'm sick of covering up"
Which suggests usually on Thursday she DOES wear make-up, but now she won't because she feels she doesn't need it anymore.

He wrote it 3/4 years ago, the song didn't make it to Divide and now he's given it to Westlife, he didn't write it right now specifically for them, it's 1000% a Divide reject
Thursday is different, he just helped Jess G writing it

Someone You Loved has stabilised very well considering it was Scott's Tune of the Week on R1 last week and hasn't been added to their playlist yet! A very promising sign.
My fave of his remains Lost On You though, that one always sounded like a hit to my ears.

The current chart rules won't let it chart high anyway. The song's a few years old I believe.

It's a political single that they've been sat on for a while, it's not the lead for their next album. That will be out either later this year, or start of 2020.

His son was on Jeremy Vine on his last show of 2018 to talk about the song (he was too ill), surprised the single's only taking off now (was he on some other show recently?).
edit: looks like his son was on One Show tonight
edit: and seemingly he died 2 weeks ago too

Also check out "Carry Yourself" from Razorlight's album (latest single)!
