BuzzJack Music Forum _ Indie, Rock and Alternative _ Biffy Clyro - A Celebration of Endings

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 10th February 2020, 02:47 PM

Biffy Clyro have begun teasing their upcoming 8th album! Following 2016's Ellipsis and last year's soundtrack for Balance, Not Symmetry. I'm really excited for this - I'd say Ellipsis is overall my second favourite album from them (after Only Revolutions).

Posted by: J00ps 10th February 2020, 04:08 PM

Exciting! No idea what this will bring. Fingers crossed for some BMTH influence

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 10th February 2020, 04:13 PM

Given their many styles now - what sort of BMTH influence are you hoping for?

Posted by: J00ps 10th February 2020, 06:26 PM

Like their most recent tracks

Posted by: Steve201 10th February 2020, 08:59 PM

Looking forward to hearing this, aren't they playing at the Big Weekend?

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th February 2020, 03:30 PM

More teasing! I'm hoping we get a new single out on Friday

They are!

Looks like it might be called 'Instant History' - postcards have been sent out to some fans.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 18th February 2020, 11:14 PM

"Instant History" is hottest record on Thursday! Can't wait

Posted by: Steve201 18th February 2020, 11:50 PM

Same here it's been too long!!

Do you think they will be instant added to the daytime playlist? I mean I know they are considered an older band now after many eras being supported on radio 1 but they are at the BW and Thursday nights HRs usually are big new releases.

Posted by: Bjork 19th February 2020, 09:11 AM

sure it will be insta-added, R1 love them

hope it's a return to form, they were flawless in the Only Revolutions era but everything went downhill since then

Posted by: Steve201 19th February 2020, 11:55 PM

That's why I was thinking they might not - they are on era No6 now like!

Posted by: Bjork 20th February 2020, 07:48 AM

yes but for rock bands like Foo F or Muse, R1 keeps supporting them forever no matter what
and if they're performing on R1's Big W/end, then sure they will support them still

Posted by: Steve201 20th February 2020, 10:07 AM

Yeh I think the fact they are on the Big Weekend is a big reason for the support. Not all bands are supported forever it's mainly the old metal bands like Foo Fighters due to the fact they find it hard to find a home for them on 6 Music or Radio 2 depending on the material.

Posted by: Steve201 20th February 2020, 07:04 PM

Love hearing all the classic Biffy on Annie Macs show in the build up to the new single!!

Posted by: Steve201 20th February 2020, 07:33 PM

Songs only half way through and oh my god it's an absolute banger with an amazing chorus and riff - classic Biffy but new and up to date at the same time - easily accessible to the radio 1 audience imo.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 20th February 2020, 07:36 PM

Out now! I really love it on first listen, but I can see it being divisive. I'm happy with it though

Though they have said in a new NME interview "Whatever you think the next song will sound like, it won’t.” - and it's not representative of the album.

Posted by: Steve201 20th February 2020, 07:38 PM

I think it sounds very 'pop' which I was surprised at considering they are in album 8. Think a lot will love it and they might even get new fans!

I actually do get new BMTH vibes from this! Great shout laugh.gif

Posted by: Bjork 20th February 2020, 08:50 PM

wow sounds huge, incredible return, they really needed a break it seems to recharge batteries and come back stronger
love the drums in the verses

if something, it reminds me of my fav old songs of them like Bubbles or Montains, always with heavy drums from the get going and a powerful chorus

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 20th February 2020, 10:04 PM

It reminds me a lot of Imagine Dragons or post 2013 30STM, which I love - but this has had a very mixed reception online it seems.

I must say I do prefer Wolves of Winter and Balance Not Symmetry by quite a bit, but I am enjoying this.

Posted by: Klaus 21st February 2020, 12:24 PM

ooo bit unsure about the new sound. Simon still sounds so good but the style is something I’m normally not really that into hmm

Posted by: J00ps 21st February 2020, 04:10 PM

This is JUST want i wanted from them omw

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd March 2020, 06:39 PM

The album is titled 'A Celebration of Endings' - and the cover is looking good!

Posted by: Steve201 4th March 2020, 01:44 PM

Hope by 'Endings' they don't mean anything literal!

Posted by: Bjork 4th March 2020, 02:47 PM

no release date?

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 4th March 2020, 02:51 PM

Not yet

Posted by: lewistgreen 4th March 2020, 09:40 PM

End Of is premiering on Beats 1 tomorrow about 17:30 our time

Posted by: HiyaLuv 4th March 2020, 09:57 PM

I've never really been into Biffy but I'm really enjoying Instant History, even if it is a bit like a post-album single from that Muse album Nero worked on. Which is no bad thing to be fair. Got a soft spot for Follow Me.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 5th March 2020, 10:31 AM

The preview is sounding good!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 5th March 2020, 05:35 PM

(I'm absolutely *loving* End Of right now)

Posted by: Steve201 30th March 2020, 08:44 PM

Yeh 'End Of' is another banger, love the guitar solo in it!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 14th May 2020, 09:18 AM

'Tiny Indoor Fireworks' is Hottest Record tonight! If it can live up to the first 2 releases, I'll be fairly confident this will be one of my favourite albums from them.

Posted by: darrens94 14th May 2020, 01:22 PM

This live version of it from 2018 is sounding good so can’t wait for the studio version

Posted by: darrens94 14th May 2020, 07:41 PM

Out now

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 14th May 2020, 09:08 PM

Big fan of this! Very catchy chorus

Posted by: lewistgreen 18th July 2020, 07:14 PM

Weird Leisure will be the next song to be released. Date still TBC

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st July 2020, 04:56 PM

Looking forward to it! Not long to go until the album, finally laugh.gif

Posted by: darrens94 31st July 2020, 09:31 AM

‘Weird Leisure’ out now

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 31st July 2020, 01:37 PM

Loving this! So excited for the album, not long to go now. There's no competition on that week, so it should be an easy third #1.

Posted by: darrens94 13th August 2020, 07:03 PM

‘Space’ out now.

Really liking this. Looking forward to listening to the full album tomorrow.

Posted by: Iz~ 15th August 2020, 03:15 AM

'Instant History' is a little weak from them but most of this album is very solid. Particularly 'Weird Leisure', 'Tiny Indoor Fireworks' and that lovely ending with 'Cop Syrup', beautiful rock as always.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 15th August 2020, 05:35 PM

Cop Syrup is absolutely fantastic

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 19th August 2020, 05:11 PM

Space video:

What an album! Definitely up there with their best, glad to see it'll definitely be their third #1 album.

Posted by: Steve201 20th August 2020, 06:37 PM

I've added 'Space' as my next single to my playlist!

Posted by: gavindeejay 20th August 2020, 07:08 PM

Is ‘Space’ an official single?

Posted by: Bré 21st August 2020, 01:51 AM

I still need to listen to the rest of this album (will do tomorrow probably) but have just listened to 'Space' now and I think this is my fave that I have heard from the album so far, really lovely song heart.gif Looks like it should comfortably be in the top 100 this week, not bad going considering they didn't get any top 100 hits at all off their last album. (Also hooray of course for the album being an easy third #1 for them, weird to think that the album that contains most of their most popular songs only got to #3, actually a place lower than the album before that charted!)

Out of the 4 songs released before the album the only one I really instantly loved was 'End Of', but 'Instant History' and 'Tiny Indoor Fireworks' both grew on me a decent amount so 3 for 4, I've still only given 'Weird Leisure' one listen and didn't really get too much from it so I'm hoping that might be a grower when listening to the album as well.

Posted by: Bré 21st August 2020, 10:03 PM

Listened to the rest of this now, 'Weird Leisure' has actually ended up being my least favourite song on the album, everything else is at least pretty good! 'Cop Syrup' is an interesting one, if it was solely the instrumental part I think it'd quite easily be a highlight of the album alongside 'Space'/'End Of' but I'm not really sure how I feel about the vocals at the start of the song, definitely going to need another listen or two to see if I get more used to them I guess. 'Worst Type Of Best Possible' and 'Opaque' are my other immediate standouts from the album tracks. 'Tiny Indoor Fireworks' has also grown on me even more, I really underrated that as a single when it came out.

Posted by: lewistgreen 23rd August 2020, 03:13 PM

Not heard the whole album yet but Space is absolutely wonderful wub.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 1st September 2020, 01:51 PM

Space has now been picked up by Radio X. The correct choice of single imo.

Posted by: Steve201 1st September 2020, 05:17 PM

Opaque is a nice slower number too!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd September 2020, 11:50 AM

In today's bizarre event, Biffy have covered Cardi B's 'WAP' in the Live Lounge today as 'WAB (Wet As Biffy)' laugh.gif the reception has been very varied, but I think it works because how insane the lyrics are!

Certainly better than the original at least

I don’t mind it but I’m struggling to see many positive comments online tbh. I sort of get what they’re trying to do but I’m not sure it’s 100% worked

I'm seeing kinda 50-50 positive/negative tbf! (particularly on youtube) Most of them are just saying how fun it is (at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter laugh.gif)

Posted by: Bjork 3rd September 2020, 12:47 PM

I think it's fun, at least I managed to get to the end of the song
Don't think I ever managed that with the original biggrin.gif

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ 3rd September 2020, 01:48 PM

Genuinely one of the worst things I have ever heard.

Posted by: darrens94 19th October 2020, 06:50 PM

Orchestral version of ‘Space’ out now and it’s sounding brilliant. Amazon Music exclusive though.
