I really wanted to keep Welbeck, he offers something different to Rooney, Van Persie and Falcao who's now officially signed.

Falcao also now confirmed. 1 year loan with option to buy.

Absurd signing for the money. Great player, but can see his goals drying up if Man Utd continue to play how they have so far.

I think Manchester United done well in order to get 16 million for Welbeck but I'm wondering if this could be another Sturridge situation? Chelsea were never really bothered about losing him yet he became a fantastic player at Liverpool due to game time and I'm wondering if Welbeck could do similar?

Monaco must be laughing so hard right now. Man United are paying 325,000 a week for a player who's nowhere near match fit and when he returns (if uninjured) he will be fit with a great amount of match time. Man United will end up playing 24 million for having a player on loan for a season. I could see Man United scoring a fair amount but they will concede ever more. I don't think their team will gel together either.

Welbeck official for £16m. Good career move for him, absolutely love to know Man Utd & Arsenal fan opinions about this, everyone's dived from both camps from what I've read.

I'm very sad he had to go as we need a bit of pace and he has that and of course the fact that he's mancunian really helped me like him a lot. Another problem I have is that I think he will be very suited to Arsenal though I do kind of hope maybe Wenger might finally put Theo upfront when he's back

He's a very underrated player and he is certainly a much better and more important player for England than a lot of people think,

I think Sturridge has always been a better finisher than Welbeck, but I think it could be a great signing for Arsenal. They lack pace & movement up front without Walcott. But you don't know how Welbeck will react to the pressure, he's going to be the main man for 3 months. Sturridge had Suarez at the same time so there was slightly less pressure. Will be interesting to see how Welbeck handles it.

There's no way Falcao will be back to Monaco. That project is well and truly down now. From what I've read their owner has gone through a massive divorce settlement. It's a ridiculous amount of money for him, as good a finisher as he is. But for me, I just wonder how well he will do. Traditional #9s don't really exist as the top strikers anymore, Falcao aside, so much more is expected of them now.

Clearly the plan must be for di Maria to create chances, but for me there's no coherent structure with their team & systems. It's OK saying they might change to 4-3-3, but if you play that, unless they want to be beaten, at least two of Mata, Van Persie, Rooney, di Maria and Falcao will be on the bench.

What's interesting for me, is they've allowed Welbeck to come in and strengthen Arsenal. Don't sell, and I think Arsenal would have struggled.

Very odd given that if Van Gaal thinks they can finish top 4 then you'd think Arsenal would be top of the list of teams not to sell to.

Welbeck's struggled to get chances as a centre forward up to now because, compared to Sturridge anyway, he's been so effective elsewhere. Will be interesting to see how he does but his scoring record in games where he started as the Number 9 is very good.

United's best bet now must surely be a diamond. Two of RVP, Falcao and Rooney with either Rooney or Mata behind and Di Maria and Herrera as shuttlers. Or they could just do this:

On paper I think the diamond would be logically the formation for Man Utd to play, but even if they did play it, I don't think it would work. Problem being that one of your forwards has to drop back to protect the full backs when you don't have the ball. Now Mata, di Maria and Rooney should wonderful as an attacking quarter, but consistently doing defensive duties? I think they really will struggle.

Just for me I ultimately wonder how much say Van Gaal has had in these transfers. Lots of quality there now, but in order for Man Utd to get Top 4 they really need one of Arsenal/Liverpool to slip up massively, which is why I find selling Welbeck silly. Lot of pundits said it last night, and I agree - Fergie would never have made that decision.

I think Welbeck is a great signing for Arsenal.

I must say it was really nice not having to worry about anything on deadline day, makes a change having your club being well run!!
