85K streams between Sam and Calvin in 6 and 9, that's big.
Only 4K between 9 and 10. |

I love this quote from Catfish's Van McCann talking about their last album:
"I feel like everybody started thinking too outside the box trying to be arty and different. We wanted to stay inside the box." |

Spotify Daily Chart Update (11/01)
Seems like Hot Hits really was holding Lewis Capaldi up because 'Grace' now drops 27 places following its removal, as his new single gets added and leaps to #55. Looks like we'll have four big new entries (actually, five, including Westlife who are smashing it on download sales) in the official chart next week as they all start in the top 20 and three in the top 10. A few others lower down as people have already pointed out, though no-one gave a mention to this week's token no-name rapper (Aitch 'Wait' enters at #170) and Tom Walker's new song enters at #187. 01 [01] Ava Max – Sweet but Psycho 469,827 02 [02] Ariana Grande – thank u, next 374,593 03 [03] Post Malone – Wow. 372,692 04 [04] Post Malone & Swae Lee – Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) 348,574 05 [05] Halsey – Without Me 338,627 06 [NE] Sam Smith & Normani – Dancing With A Stranger [*NEW PEAK*] 316,363 07 [06] Mark Ronson – Nothing Breaks Like a Heart (feat. I love this quote from Catfish's Van McCann talking about their last album: "I feel like everybody started thinking too outside the box trying to be arty and different. We wanted to stay inside the box." It does really sum up the 2nd half of this decade in music so far. |

Still the most successful indie bands such as Arcade Fire, Tame Impala, Radiohead and Vampire Weekend go to #1 by thinking outside the box.

We must be due a "Sex On Fire"/"Use Somebody" type hit soon. Tbf I felt indie was quietly on the rise last year with lots of fresh new takes on it plus a load of bands from the 00s wave releasing albums, including a comeback from Razorlight. Hopefully this means in 2019 we'll see a grow in indie influence on the charts. Good start for Catfish!! THIS. I mean we can't constantly have faceless rap doing well, indie is due a comeback soon! |

I'd say it's the opposite, some very few indie acts think outside the box and be successful like Radiohead
most indie bands repeat their formula to infinity and beyond releasing the same album again and again cos fans buy it anyway (Oasis, Muse etc) |

Same every time? Try telling me Simulation Theory and Drones (or especially Origin of Symmetry but I was going with a more recent example) are the same album! |

Good to see some new 2019 music doing well this week as the chart will hopefully be freshened up. Seems that people are taking to the new Sam/Normani track in comparison to the CalMan one - always thought Calvins singles opened with big streaming figures but maybe not.
Westlife doing very well to rise today to 75, maybe not do so bad on streaming. Also fantastic to see Longshot rise into the top 10 which is quite a shock to me too. Think people are forgetting it's a fantastic song too pure and simple. |

Promises only entered at #14 so Giant entering at #9 is very impressive. And I think Sam Smith being a bigger name than Rag'n'Bone Man, plus him having the #1 song on NMF is helping him over Calvin.
