Monday update above!

Posted by: Bré Aug 5 2019, 01:39 PM

Ariana might be able to hang onto #2 for the week then? Not bad for her at all.

Kind of crazy to see Drake potentially making the top 5 of the album chart with just a randomly dropped compilation of old songs. Apparently set to debut at #1 in the US as well. Now that's really just casually getting to #1 without any promotion or really any effort at all. When will Ed Sheeran etc.

Posted by: SevenSeize Aug 5 2019, 01:48 PM

Thanks Joseph for posting! Meant to get the thread up last night but it slipped my mind

Nice to see HAIM's summer anthem briefly sneaking into the top 100 <3

Posted by: Hadji Aug 5 2019, 02:06 PM

Oh great. It looks like Señorita will overtake Boyfriend by Friday. And I hope Jax Rexha can hold onto the top 40

Posted by: gooddelta Aug 5 2019, 02:07 PM

Maybe Boyfriend might be a similar sized hit to Justin Bieber's Friends? A standalone summer release from a superstar that debuts at No.2, mostly on fanbase sales and streams, and then slowly declines without ever threatening to be as big as their previous few smashes. I could be wrong and it may prove incredibly enduring but that sort of trajectory for it wouldn't surprise me.

Posted by: Bjork Aug 5 2019, 02:18 PM

surprised Drake's album has done so little, even if it's a collection of lost tracks, hardcore fans should buy it... just 4k seems very low, think it's available as a download album on iTunes...
if Kylie released a collection of lost tracks like this sure she'd do minimum 30K, 40K if available on cassette ohmy.gif

Posted by: Bjork Aug 5 2019, 02:18 PM

5 newies but all horrible ones, all five are a 0/10 for me :/

Posted by: pippa Aug 5 2019, 02:35 PM

Kylie should pick up some good sales today and may help her return officially to the Top 15 on Friday.
I would welcome Shawn and Camila holding Number 1 ahead of Ariana Grande.

Posted by: Yog Aug 5 2019, 02:38 PM

Sam getting two top ten hits in one year? “The Thrill Of It All” era could never...

Posted by: pippa Aug 5 2019, 02:59 PM

Mabel will drop back to Number 4 or 5 based on this information but that is yet a very positive outcome for the album.

Posted by: Hadji Aug 5 2019, 04:26 PM

AJ to block Dominic from the top 5 please

Posted by: Steve201 Aug 5 2019, 04:32 PM

Lewis is going to struggle to make 10k album sales in a few weeks. Gonna be a long quiet summer - role on Sept!

Posted by: SKOB Aug 5 2019, 04:35 PM

Taylor is releasing in 2 weeks lol, so not that long

Several big albums in the week after.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Aug 5 2019, 04:37 PM

Bit of an album battle on (release date) September 20th!

Liam Gallagher, blink-182 and Keane. All 3 of their last albums got to #1, though I imagine LG will safely take it.

The question is longevity though as even the biggest artists have a 2nd week slump unless they are big streaming artists.

Posted by: Bjork Aug 5 2019, 04:44 PM

also curious about Slipknot next week, Im sure they gonna sell well too, minimum #2

actually this year August has pretty big and exciting albums (Taylor, Lana, Bon Iver, Slipknot, Tool, Mabel)
while by contrast September seems pretty lacking with just Liam and Keane, Emeli Sande, but not much else
October even seems more lacking in big releases but maybe it's too early and haven't been announced

I just read rumours that a big female name is coming back this Thursday, either Rihanna or Adele biggrin.gif

Posted by: Wall Aug 5 2019, 05:23 PM

mabel will probably end up at #3 which is a great result but disappointing salsa!!

Posted by: pippa Aug 5 2019, 05:59 PM

Blur showing as a re-Entry at #96 with Girls and Boys.
Great song, but why is it back?

I did not think Kaiser Chiefs would experience such a sharp drop this week, i had expected low Top 20 but now it may not manage a second week in the Top 40.
Rita Ora and Clean Bandit albums really neck and neck since they both started their campaigns and they are side by side on the chart once again this week and have almost identical sales tallies.

There was a Live at the BBC EP released on Friday featuring the track - definitely something to do with that.

Omg THIS. It's the same thing they tried to do to the Spices before Geri left. It means the bosses see them as short-lived success, or bubble acts, and are tryin to get as much out of them as they can before the bubble bursts. They don't do this with acts they thibk will have sustained longevitt. They usually do it with massively popular artists, as they know that type of success is not self-sustaining and collapses eventually. Surprised they didn't force Katy to do the same post Teenage Dream! It is their response to the Furtado Baking Pies Effect.

Posted by: Bjork Aug 6 2019, 01:37 PM

it's what labels do with EVERY pop act. No pop act takes 8 years between album 1 and 2 LOL

Posted by: Algernon Monqueef Aug 6 2019, 01:38 PM

Katy took 5 years, so did Nelly Furtdao, but it destroyed them. GaGa takes ages, as does Adele!

Yeah but where is she now? Her label and management havent even started working on her new album while her last album was 5 years ago... she's 31 now so no longer a priority, same thing with Katy, Britney, Taylor , Christina and everyone else, when they reach the magic age of 30 they stop being a priority to their management, record labels and they only try to make money from their tours, if they can sell tickets...

This is one of the most ridiculous suggestions I've seen. ANTI was only 3 years ago and was big - perhaps not her biggest ever, but Work is one of her biggest hits and the follow-up singles have deceivingly low peaks for how big they were. She's taken her time with this album because she hasn't NEEDED to rush it. It's not much longer than the gap between Unapologetic and ANTI in fact. It's nothing to do with her age, she's one of the biggest names in the world and with the right material, her new era's going to be another big one.

(also, Taylor's 29, but I suppose her brand new label will sideline her after 13th December this year sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif )

Rihanna has reached a point in her career where she dictates when she records and releases and she has done tonnes of recording for her next release already, with it apparently due to be released this year.

She is no longer churning out music because she clearly wants to put out bodies of work she loves rather than a collection of hit singles.

Posted by: Cqmerqn Aug 6 2019, 06:02 PM

Ariana doesn’t love her songs? What? laugh.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee Aug 6 2019, 06:25 PM

Sweetener the album is only like just under a year old isn’t it but the songs on it aside from the singles don’t really connect with Ari now do they?

Like she recorded a lot of songs about Pete there was even a track on the album named after him but since they broke up she then recorded an entire new album. IK some of the album was about Macs death (the thank u next one) but that’s maybe like three of the 12 tracks at a push. She’d actually recorded more personal tracks but took them off thank u, next in favour of more fun tracks like break up with ur gf, I’m bored.

Posted by: sammy01 Aug 6 2019, 08:56 PM

Rihanna made 1 billion dollars from her beauty range, she will do music when she wants to. She owns all her material and still takes in a fortune from it.

Anti was still charting in the US this year as well.

The only thing Rihanna is an example of is being a label puppet and breaking free of that and becoming fully in control of her career and that has lead to her being the richest woman in music now. A true success story.

I highly doubt she made $1b from Fenty when she has a minority stake.
Forbes (who are known to inflate) said in June 2019 she is worth $600m which includes her music, beauty and acting.

Posted by: Bristolmans Aug 7 2019, 03:47 AM

Why are people talking about Rihanna, off topic, she doesn't have anything out atm and imo she's rubbish, piss weak voice and very boring. Now she's over 30 let's hope radio 1 do the ageist thing and stop playing her

It's a ridiculous argument.

Imagine thinking Rihanna is over the hill when she's effortlessly succeeding outside of music and at her most respected? She'll return to music when she wants to and will obviously be a priority to her label. How silly.

It's also silly to think Ariana is some puppet her label is milking when she's clearly just making music with her friends and fortunate enough to have the machine behind her whenever she wants to drop something. It's the way the industry is going.

Posted by: pippa Aug 7 2019, 01:55 PM

I am so pleased to see Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello now ahead of Ariana Grande and sitting at Number 1.
Kygo and Whitney Houston need to hold their position or climb further and the same for Kylie on the album chart.

He's comfortably top 50 but has no chance of going top 40 this week.

Glad to see the social media campaign will almost certainly get Aitch that T10, though it's a shame it's at the expense of Sam Smith; fingers crossed Sam can climb up next week (when Aitch potentially drops out/due to lack of other 'big' releases [unless I'm missing an obvious one!]).

Well there is 'suposedly' a big female singer returning this week which is rumored ot be Rhianna or Adele.

Posted by: danG Aug 7 2019, 05:22 PM

I Don't Care and Bad Guy are going to re-enter ACR next week so Sam Smith should very easily go top 10 either way.

This is BS!!! Sam deserves that more!!! mad.gif

MATE.

There is no wrong answer in the updates we receive; these are official midweek updates. Data is missing, yes, but we are all aware of this and Friday's chart position is usually different to what is confirming during the week. The updates and positions stated by the OCC and Music Week in the lead up to Friday are not wrong.

So..Is Sam 100% sure not going Top ten this week, Of that’s the case with the missing data, he was predicted by OCC or whatever that he was gonna drop at #13 yet rose to #11, I just need to know if Sam has a chance?

Posted by: JosephAvery Aug 7 2019, 06:03 PM

Midweeks are not predictions. They give an insight into how well everything is selling so far in the week. Sam increased his position as last week went on, this week he has merely been leapfrogged by Aitch. He will go top 10 at some point though I don't believe he will this week (but I know little more than you do...)

Posted by: Yog Aug 7 2019, 06:08 PM

Thank You Joseph..

This is both homophobic and disgusting, Aitch’s song is trash anyway..

Posted by: dobbo Aug 7 2019, 06:23 PM

I'm not convinced Sam will actually go top 10 with all the upcoming releases. This year's Meant To Be perhaps?

Also at the rate Sorry was surging that seems to have stalled somewhat. So annoying I LOVE both of these songs far more than any of that dried up crap in the current top 10.

As Dan said, we'll have both I Don't Care and bad guy returning to ACR next week so that clears two spots in the top 10 most likely, and heck, Ariana could even dive out if she keeps falling, which gives Sam a good shot at climbing in alongside potentially this big new female release (if it actually happens). I'm not sure I can see anything else poised to climb in next week!

Posted by: Yog Aug 7 2019, 06:30 PM

LOL there is no surprise female release... why would Katy Perry release this week if that was the case, also it’s Will Ferrel

No promo Ed has only two weeks left at no.1!! Taylor's 2 weeks are comin soon

Is anyone else thinking this Taylor album may struggle? I expect first week number 1 but the 2 singles have been very meh and I just don't see her doing anywhere near 50k first week and it taking a big hit 2nd week.

Reputation has only done just over 300k down from the 1.2m of 1989 so its not really a hig bar to live up to she will probably have done 200k before christmas as long as she actually bothers to do some promo over here (she did very little fro Rep.)

Posted by: SKOB Aug 8 2019, 09:40 AM

Despite being "meh" she has 2 top ten singles so the starting point is pretty similar to Reputation.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Aug 8 2019, 09:46 AM

I can see Sam having an eventual #5 peak with 'How Do You Sleep?'.

Posted by: Bjork Aug 8 2019, 09:56 AM

the problem imo is that everything depends too much on Spotify Hot Hits... like Sorry for instance, started so well, but HH has it im the middle of the playlist so it's stuck and not progressing further, same with a lot of songs like Ellie's Hate Me or Find U Again... same is pretty high, around #10 on HH, so sure that if they place him higher, it will also go higher in the official charts, all depend on playlist present and positioning these days

That was because someone had booked to appear, in some form, across all Late Night shows tonight in America, which is obviously unprecedented and therefore it was assumed it be a huge name like Rihanna or Adele who could have that sort of power but its now being said that its actually just Will Ferrell.

That's a bit specific laugh.gif I can see him easily going Top 10 but I think Top 5 may be out of his reach.

hopefully Aitch can keep top 10 but it's very close between him and numbers 11-12.
also looks likely that Cross Me will overtake London at the last minute, hopefully it does so it gets a slightly more normal looking run though it will drop out the following week from ACR.

Posted by: Bré Aug 8 2019, 12:13 PM

Ariana falling more over the week than I thought oops. Still, top 5 isn't bad and it's a big improvement on the opening of 'MONOPOLY' for what seems to be a similar (albeit slightly more heavily promoted) release.

It's just had another huge update on iTunes as he goes for the last day push, I expect it'll be fine. Weird that it actually fell on today's update though!

Ed down to 30k by week 4 didnt expect that, gonna be closer than i expected as to who will get the year end number 1

Ariana down to 4 cheer.gif cheer.gif cheer.gif cheer.gif

Posted by: SKOB Aug 8 2019, 01:43 PM

Yeah the drop for Ed is pretty drastic: 61k, 41k, approx 30k... Should be 20k in a couple of weeks which leaves the door open for almost all big releases each week.

We all know he's not going to promote tongue.gif

That said, his big concerts later this month should boost the No.6 album a bit.

Jax Rexha better not miss the top 40

If the mystery female guest who’s on 5 talk shows tonight is a Rihanna album drop she could get a #1 album debut next week with Ed’s sales being what they are this week smile.gif

That’s if it is an album drop what’s happening!
