Born This Way
The Fame Monster The Fame Chromatica A Star Is Born ARTPOP Joanne Love For Sale Cheek to Cheek I think???? Largely based on the albums themselves but other era things have helped TFM and The Fame! So for example, I think I prefer Chromatica as an album to The Fame, but the latter had a humongous era with massive music videos and promo and memories - Chromatica didn't so it's dropped a place. |

I think I go with:
Born This Way The Fame Monster Chromatica The Fame A Star is Born ARTPOP Joanne Love For Sale Cheek to Cheek C2C came last even though it "saved" her career to some extent, but I had a bit of fatigue after ARTPOP so didn't really pay attention there. Loved her appearances though and always love a bit of Tony. |

01. Born This Way
02. The Fame Monster 03. The Fame 04. Chromatica 05. A Star is Born 06. ARTPOP 07. Joanne 08. Cheek to Cheek 09. Love For Sale Born This Way is my favourite album quality-wise and was such an important era for me as a confused teen. The Fame Monster includes my favourite Gaga song and video, 'Bad Romance' and 'Telephone' respectively, plus several other gems. It was an exciting, darker flip from her that has held up well. The Fame has aged in comparison but brings back so much nostalgia as the era where I became a stan. Plus the likes of 'Poker Face', 'Paparazzi' etc. and their accompanying visuals are still incredible. Chromatica was an exciting return back to dance-pop sounds and the era where I finally saw her live!! A cathartic record during lockdown times. A Star is Born was a highly satisfying time to be a fan as she was riding high again with the public. On top of that, I enjoyed the film and music quite a bit. ARTPOP was... a hot mess but there are still some solid takeaways and good memories too as I was still peak stanning post-Born This Way. I don't really go back to Joanne minus 'Dancin' In Circles' and 'John Wayne' so this feels about right. This direction wasn't the most exciting in all honesty. Cheek to Cheek and Love For Sale are similar levels of 'not my thing' but I'm better acquainted with the former |

1. Born This Way
2. The Fame Monster 3. The Fame 4. Chromatica 5. A Star Is Born 6. ARTPOP 7. Joanne 8. Love For Sale 9. Cheek to Cheek Easy top 4 for me. If I was ranking them purely in terms of music I'd bump A Star Is Born down to 7th, but the movie and general goodwill pushes it higher. ARTPOP meanwhile is an album I love but as an era it's fair to say it was a mess. |

I’m torn here!
My ranking for these as albums and eras are quite different so I’ve had to give this some thought but here goes… 1. The Fame Monster - Born This Way is my favourite album by her but this era just was like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. I seen her live for the first time here and felt for the first time that I’d found someone in the public eye who is fully for me. She came and conquered here. The visuals here, her sales, everything was just smash after smash. Iconic moment. A pop culture masterpiece. This is the golden era of hers forever. 2. Born This Way - My favourite album of hers! I did love this era too maybe change some single choices but it was golden! I think this was ahead of its time in many ways and we seen just how much of a fearless and brave LGBTQ+ icon she was here. Incredible tour, massive stand out moments and live performances. She was already becoming an icon here. 3. The Fame - What a debut. There’s never been a debut since where someone’s really just come and conquered in every field since. Full of pop culture references what are still relevant today. The album itself may feel of it’s time in places but its also responsible for a change in music since it was released and the pop girls really stepped up the fashion stakes off the back of this album. 4. ASIB era - OK so she smashed awards season here, got herself another #1 and it felt like a new career peak and reinvention for her. I always feel so proud of being a fan of her more so this era. 5. Joanne - I’ve always loved Joanne as an album and era. Definitely a better era than ARTPOP, vocally she shone, she was more her true self, I loved the tour, we had the Super Bowl, Coachella and the documentary too. It was just a real treat for me in this era to see her smash again with public perception again and the album has held up for me although I see why some may not necessarily get it. This was also an album for vocals and we had live performances what really showcased off her vocals too. 6. Chromatica - OK so I do prefer this as an album to many of those I’ve ranked higher here but if we’re talking about the era as a whole it feels right to leave it here. We had one major live performance before the tour and covid kinda dampened the eras promo campaign. There could have definitely been more opportunities here and I do think there would have been had the world been different but I can’t rank it any higher than this in a “eras” rank as everything I’ve placed above had far more to them to make it a sustained campaign. 7. ARTPOP - My least favourite solo album and era. It hurts that she was in a bad place here but it’s not amongst my favourite periods of her career she wasn’t herself I did see the tour though which was great. 8. Cheek to Cheek (A big turnaround in public perception here especially in the US and she seemed so happy and carefree in this era. She was just in love with music and performing again in a way that didn’t really show with ARTPOP but it’s hard comparing Jazz covers to her solo eras. 9. Love for Sale - (I prefer this as an album to Cheek to Cheek but era wise Cheek to Cheek had more to it due to Tony’s health) This post has been edited by JLJ: Apr 15 2023, 06:19 PM |

A lot of these are fairly similar which is interesting to see! Chromatica being high in most where it deserves to be (but I agree Jord the cut-short era dampens it as a whole project unfortunately)

Joanne Born This Way A Star Is Born Fame Monster Fame Chromatic Artpop Haven't heard the other two Wow that is very unpopular opinion, but great to see Joanne at #1 here. May I ask why? I personally loved the era with Super Bowl, Coachella and Five Foot Two doc, but don't really revisit the album that often. |

In terms of my personal experience, nothing to do with success or iconography...
1. Born This Way (my gay awakening, this era taught me what it meant to release an insane pop record and market it in the right way) 2. Joanne (so many performances and great performances at that, shame there wasn't more singles. I'm looking at you Dancin' In Circles) 3. A Star is Born (the joy I got from seeing her on screen was intoxicating. Also her promo for this was so fun) 4. ARTPOP (so many highs and so many lows but at the same time I can't imagine any ever popstar pulling off an ARTPOP, for better or worse) 5. Chromatica (dampened the pandemic tbh, however I still listen to it daily. Unfortunate that she seemed over. First time I saw her live tho!) 6. The Fame Monster (just so iconic, I remember sitting with my cousins all huddled around an ancient computer watching Bad Romance, epic) 7. Love For Sale (loved this, it was short and sweet and she did what she could without Tony and I return this a lot tbf) 8. Cheek to Cheek (after the crash and burn of ARTPOP, c2c felt like walking into a different world. A great move but not my favourite) 9. The Fame (I was so young, I couldn't experience it more than watching music videos on tv. Looking back, her performances are great) |

Wow that is very unpopular opinion, but great to see Joanne at #1 here. May I ask why? I personally loved the era with Super Bowl, Coachella and Five Foot Two doc, but don't really revisit the album that often. Yes of course! Joanne as a whole album flows perfectly for me, can listen to it while doing almost anything. Her vocals are perfect and everything sounds real and natural. Born This Way is very close to it for me but all the other albums have a lot of flaws and a lot of fillers that I dint necessarily like. With Joanne I can say I love every single song and is up there in one of my all time favourite albums. I also liked her personality style and passion for the album it seemed genuine and her not some alter ego. I know the album is really unpopular with most but it's just down to everyone's individual likes. Joanne is nothing like her others so I can see how fans of Artpop would not like Joanne. |

That's interesting - I think that Joanne as an album kind of lacks the smash hit, apart from Million Reasons which is a hit an a streaming smash now but she really needed to SELL it to people. But I guess it was the same with ARTPOP too to some extent.
Joanne flows into ASIB era very nicely though. |
