Are there any tracks that you have accidentally listened to on vinyl at the wrong play speed... and decided you love?
I'm currently listening to Robyn's 'Honey' single and have accidentally put the first remix on at 33 instead of 45 but I didn't realise at first because it sounds so sultry at this speed - it's wonderful! |

Back in the day of 12" singles some of them had a playing speed of 33rpm which caught me out a few times. John Peel, of course, was notorious for playing songs at the wrong speed.

I had Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right to Children playing at the wrong speed on my record player for a few minutes before I noticed.

I do that on purpose sometimes. I like Bananarama - Venus slowed down for some reason.

I would imagine that a Drake album played at 45rpm would be an improvement. Less boring and much funnier, and it would finish much quicker Back in the long-ago The Chipmunks used to cover current hits in that style....

I had The Twilight Hour by The The (from Soul Mining) playing at 45rpm instead of 33rpm. Sounds like something that would be sampled in hip hop. Just needs a drum loop.
The Shy Child remix of The Futureheads' Decent Days And Night, I played that at the opposite setting, and there's this pitched down voice which would also fit for a sample. And outside of vinyl: Windowlicker by Aphex Twin set at 33rpm instead of 45rpm sounds trippy Mariah Carey's We Belong Together at 2x speed on YouTube sounds like an unofficial UK garage remix |
