Second album from Self Esteem (Slow Club's Rebecca Lucy Taylor's solo project) is out later this year.
Her debut, Compliments Please was amazing and she's just released the 1st single from album two, the spoken-word I Do This All the Time. I can't remember the last time I was this obsessed with a song. it was really rather miserable trying to love you This post has been edited by Cremey: 9th July 2021, 11:51 AM |

It is SUCH a good/unique song, I really adore it. Her words are so relatable in the verses and the uplifting chorus is so beautiful and hopeful in comparison.
Thanks for the tip on her debut album Cremey, I missed it at the time but listened to it and it’s absolutely wonderful, much more poppy than this track but no less great. This post has been edited by gooddelta: 19th May 2021, 09:16 PM |

Her first era totally passed me by at the time as well (or I might have seen the name and not bothered checking it out due to not being aware of the Slow Club connection) so am also just discovering this via BJSC, it is pretty great - as Rich pointed out it kind of has a Real Lies vibe to it (except female obvz) and taking some clear inspiration from Baz Luhrmann's 'Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)' which can never be a bad thing. Shall definitely keep an eye out for future singles.

A shame that ppl missed the first era, “The Best” was a good track from that album that 6Music spammed us with back in 2019. But this is so much better, as you say Bré there is a definite “Everyone’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)” vibe - for the class of 2021 not 1999.*
*Although the speech that was taken from was actually for the class of 1997! |

So good to see this getting some love, both here and elsewhere
Can’t wait to see what she comes out with next. And glad you’re liking her debut, gooddelta! |

I Do This All The Time joins The Last Man On Earth as being comfortably my favourite songs of the year, so much better than anything else. I did enjoy The Best a lot but everything else I heard I never got into, but have enjoyed giving the debut album a couple of listens recently...

Some of the performances on Later... with Jools Holland outside of the usual studio in this Covid era have been truly sensational. This is one of those

Love both of these so much, can't wait for the album.
That Prioritise Pleasure chorus! I wasn't expecting that. She's so refreshing. Still so obsessed with I Do This All the Time, my song of the year so far |

The album is really shaping up to be great based on these two songs. Love the album/single title.

The reverb is hideous, that one's a pass.

Yeah.. Part of me loves it and thinks it's great, but it is also pretty much unlistenable.

Absolutely loving 'Prioritise Pleasure', even better than 'I Do This All The Time' - think I am definitely going to have to check out this album when it comes out. That chorus is reminding me a bit of some of the most soaring moments on the Wolf Alice album.
(I also don't mind a bit of harsh production when it appears intentional which it does here, though I do understand the previous couple of posts xx) |

Love both of these so much, can't wait for the album. That Prioritise Pleasure chorus! I wasn't expecting that. She's so refreshing. Still so obsessed with I Do This All the Time, my song of the year so far She's brilliant, I really admire her and how honest and open she is both through her songcraft but in the interviews I've read too. I think it takes a lot of courage to do all of that, and it's incredibly inspiring. Anyway they were BANGING this out on 6Music today (on at work) and it has really grown on me immensely. Hope when the album comes out in October she has driven enough interest to do well - she deserves more attention. |

Powerful! She's also recreated the 1999 Britney Spears Rolling Stone cover for her appearance in the new NME. |
