Gaming can be an expensive hobby (however once you have the equipment and play your cards right, it can be insanely cheap for the hours of entertainment it gives), but fortunately there are constant deals going all around the web for games, sometimes they're free, sometimes they're much cheaper than they would otherwise be.

Good places to check if you're looking to grow your collection include:

https://www.humblebundle.com - a store with a focus on occasionally doing big bundles of games or a monthly subscription at cheap prices, with some of your money (you can choose how much) going to charity

Steam Sales - good for individual games you're interested in, you'll just need to wait. They do big overall sales in the Summer, around Black Friday and New Year but every now and then there's a 'publisher weekend' and there's always at least a few good deals on in the store. I can't remember the last time I bought a game full-price from there.

Other sites to check include GOG, IndieGala, UPlay. Sometimes Humble Bundle and UPlay even have free games, while some games are permanently free on Steam.

This is a very PC-gaming focused list but it can grow and I'd like to include console games but I don't know where to get them, please post any individual really good deals that you think might be of interest.

And an important disclaimer: Don't just buy something because it's on offer in a sale. It's tempting but see if you really want it or you think you might enjoy it. I bought a few Humble Bundles recently and now I have a HUGE backlog of games to get through, having spent not all that much considering the quantity. No regrets yet but I'm forcing myself to not buy every deal I see as it's unlikely I'll play it before there is another sale at this point.

Omg I'm SO bad for just getting so much shtie in the PS4 or Steam sales I'll probably rarely play, especially in the PS4 sales where they'll reduce the PS2 classics or indie games to like under a fiver, because it's only 3 or 4 quid I'm like "oh if I don't play it hardly matters because it was so cheap and it's there if I want it, which is true I suppose but still the small amounts all add up tongue.gif

Don't know how good this deal is but it's currently one of the top trending ones on HotUKDeals at 936°. Either way you mess about with it, it seems like you're getting £22 off Mario Kart 8 and £18 off Legend of Zelda. happy.gif

I would love to get the Switch sometimes that is a good deal.

Could we potentially pin this? biggrin.gif

Isn't Freddy v Jason on sale on PS4 store right now??

Posted by: Oliver 14th January 2018, 05:20 PM

Would anyone want that even if it was on sale?! laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 14th January 2018, 05:28 PM

PS4 has a lot on sale rn, can't wait to get some stuff for it when I'm done with exams and have time to play stuff.

Got my eye on the following, won't buy them all and I also need A Hat In Time, but all such good deals!

Horizon Zero Dawn complete (main game + DLC) £29.99
Just Cause 3 £8.99
The Sims 4 £28.99
Rise Of The Tomb Raider £14.99

Really tempted by Horizon Zero Dawn as it's the DLC as well although I still don't know if it's fully my thing but I definitely want The Sims. Thinking that, obviously A Hat In Time, and Tomb Raider as I loved the first PS4 one and still haven't played it and £15 is a steal.

Posted by: Oliver 14th January 2018, 05:43 PM

I have such bad internet that I try and avoid buying digital games, I only get the free ones from PS Plus as they are normally smaller indie games and don't take as long to download. laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 14th January 2018, 06:43 PM

Ours at uni is lit it only takes a few mins, at home it's awful so I just make sure I do it here laugh.gif

Got another deal coming up, saving over £150!

Posted by: Oliver 17th January 2018, 06:03 PM

MICROSOFT XBOX ONE X 1TB 4K CONSOLE WITH CALL OF DUTY: WW2, ASSASSIN'S CREED ORIGINS, OVERWATCH AND MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOW OF WAR - £449.00 @ TESCO

Deal ends tomorrow so grab it while you can if you want one. Cracking deal to be honest, all you're paying for is the console and getting FOUR free games!!!

Same technicality as the Nintendo Switch deal posted earlier (combining several bundles into one).

Equivalent on Amazon is £597.11!

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 17th January 2018, 07:54 PM

Tempted by the new PS4 Tomb Raider game. As Liam said, the first reboot was superb.

I have 1gb/s internet here so downloads aren't really an issue for me.

I’ve seen that the Tesco Nintendo switch deal has expired.

Anyone know the best deal on the switch for about £300? Want a Mario game with it

Posted by: Oliver 23rd January 2018, 07:45 PM

What Mario game are you after?

Posted by: Oliver 23rd January 2018, 07:47 PM

The Broken Sword original trilogy is on sale for £1.00 on Steam!

Posted by: Iz 23rd January 2018, 09:11 PM

There's a Humble Bundle of Paradox stuff available right now. Considering I'm always extolling their virtues it seems a waste not to advertise it. Sadly not including EU4 (although that goes on sale regularly for a tenner) but it does have Crusader Kings 2 (the second best and best for memes) and Stellaris, as well as a couple of their older titles.

Either Kart or Odyssey

That Tesco deal seemed too good to be true tbh, I'm struggling finding anything equivalent.

Amazon are doing Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart 8 for £310.99.

The Switch HAS to be the Neon Blue/Red version and at the checkout you need to use code BIGTHANKS to get that price.

I'm not sure how long that code lasts for, so it's up to you if you want it badly whether to get it sooner or wait and see if anything else pops up in the coming weeks (I check daily).

Posted by: Oliver 24th January 2018, 07:27 PM

Assassin's Creed Origins is 33% off on the Ubisoft website. PS4/Xbox One price is £36.66...cheaper than anywhere else I can find (except DVD-Maze but that's a fake site). PC version is £33.32.

Promotion ends at midnight so if you want it now at its cheapest get it tonight!! happy.gif

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef 24th January 2018, 07:35 PM

The best one yet too!

Posted by: Oliver 24th January 2018, 07:43 PM

The LG 55UJ634V 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV can be bought for £499.00 using the code TV30 at the checkout or in store at Currys/PC World (normally £529.00). Promotion ends on Tuesday, currently the cheapest price I can find it. happy.gif

PS4 Slim 500GB E-Chassis White Console & GT Sport for £209.99 @ Tesco Direct. Use code TDX-WFGR at the checkout and collect in-store for maximum savings!

Following on from the other day, there is still a 30% saving on this. The PS4/Xbox One price is £38.49...BUT if you have 100 Ubisoft Club points you can trade them in for another 20% off, bringing the price down to £30.79! happy.gif

The Steam Summer Sale is now on for the next two weeks!

Perfect time to pick up PC games, especially if you don't have some of the classics. Nearly all games on the Steam Store will be discounted, often 50% but some more, some less.

I plan to pick up Binding Of Isaac: Rebirth at the least.

Posted by: Iz~ 23rd November 2018, 06:45 AM

Steam Autumn sale now on until 27 November. I’m not certain if I’m spending anything, but now I have a PC again, I may get some new games to christen it with.

There certainly seems to be a better selection of deals than the last few, like the Counter-Strike collection for a good price, shame I’m not really interested in that series. At the moment I’m going conservative and only EU4 DLC plus a JRPG maybe.

Of course I’ve got many of the best deals in the past already. Also, as always with the November sale, if you don’t want to play the game before Christmas, it might just be best to wait for that one.

PSA: this has just started again. Don't know if I'll pick anything up (I have so many games I don't have time to play already) but I'll be looking around the VNs and games I missed in case there's anything that catches my eye.

Posted by: Oliver 27th June 2019, 09:11 PM

If there's anything free in the sale I might have a look!

Posted by: Iz~ 1st July 2019, 03:24 AM

Nothing free that I've seen, those tend to get separate announcements outside a sale, but this is https://store.steampowered.com/search/?filter=ut2&category1=998&os=, where if there's anything you don't have that catches your eye, it's normally a very good deal.

I've picked up a few games I've wanted to get in my library for a while, Stardew Valley, Undertale, COD4 (which I didn't have in my library for some reason) as well as a political democracy strategy game (Democracy 3) because I'm that cool.

Posted by: Oliver 3rd July 2019, 04:52 PM

Saw the old Broken Sword games are all in that section Iz, so I might get the bundle!

Posted by: Tones and Iz 29th November 2019, 04:00 AM

Steam sale (Autumn Sale) on again until December 3rd. So basically Black Friday stuff. I have not bought anything yet I'll admit, largely because I'm becoming ever more aware of my backlog that gets regularly supplemented by my Humble Monthly subscription.

However if you were thinking about buying any game, now (or in a month with the Winter Sale at Christmas) is the time to look.

Posted by: Liаm 29th November 2019, 04:13 AM

I've ended up buying an Xbox One S, the game pass thing is very tempting as there's a few exclusives I wanted to get round to on there! I've been thinking of buying one for a while but you can't say no at these prices.
