Christopher and Ed Sheeran have nabbed their first EVER #1s so far this year, and now it's the turn of Daniel Skye, a 16 year old singer from Hollywood. Daniel scored his debut chart hit only last year with We Got Us, his final independent release before being signed to RCA Records. We Got Us peaked at #9, but he bettered it with the next three singles - Smile and No Party made #5 while Good As It Gets made #6. His most recent track, Last Call, failed to make much of an impact, and only got to #25, but he makes up for it with ON, which climbs to #1 in its first full week, up 30 places. ON seems to be his first proper single push with RCA, so maybe it will see him break through into the UK charts too? (2+ weeks) It was a close battle for the top spot this week, and just losing out is Joel Adams, who finally followed up his debut hit Please Don't Go last week. Die For You is his new single, released only via Bandcamp so far (hence its absence from my Spotify playlist), and while it doesn't match the #1 peak of Please Don't Go yet, it climbs 19 places to a respectable #2, with the chance of going even higher in the future. Candle takes a dive of six places down to #11 this week but Do It for Your Lover is likely to have a much longer chart run, particularly with it being in the running to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest this year! 2017 05 Candle \| 1 \| 5-11-... It becomes their third top 10 hit, fifth top 20 and sixth top 40. They made their chart debut in 2013 with one of their earliest releases, Erase, featuring Indian singer/actress Priyanka Chopra, although my favourite these days is 2016 #5 hit Don't Let Me Down, with vocals from Daya. Most vocals on Paris are sung by Chainsmokers member Andrew "Drew" Taggart, although additional vocals are provided by Emily Warren, who achieved a #1 hit with Frenship on Capsize last year, and reached #2 more recently with Lost Kings on Phone Down. Halsey also gets her second chart hit as a lead artist, with her peak being #22 with New Americana. She did, however, make #20 with The Chainsmokers on their song Closer. Not Afraid Anymore is new at #37 this week. The remaining three new entries all come from artists scoring their debut hits. Indie pop duo Nightly are new with XO at #19, singer/songwriter Julia Michaels is at #25 with Issues, and boyband New Hope Club make their debut at #34 with Perfume. I've been looking for a Lasting Lover Joined: 23 March 2007 Posts: 28,685 User: 3,149	Hi Joseph Daniel X Joel battle this week. I think I prefer Die For You. I don't love Chainsmokers but Paris is really good. I love Not Afraid Anymore. Shame it's not a big hit. Good chart

Paris I'm still not sure on yet, they're a chart force nowadays to go straight into the top 10. The Julia Michaels & Halsey songs were both decent, I imagine the latter will be an eventual chart hit when the film is out. Great stuff

I like both of Ed Sheeran's new songs but I'm just not as into them as I feel I should be - 'Castle on the Hill' has such an energy that would usually be right up my street. To be honest, it's always been the case with Ed's music and I can never put my finger on what it is that puts me off. It doesn't help that I know I'll end up sick to death of his songs when they get inevitably overplayed, as I've found I've always had more lasting impressions on his not quite as big songs like 'You Need Me...' or 'Bloodstream'. 'Paris' does take influence from 'Closer' - it feels like a more chilled version with a similar style vocalist to Halsey (I had to look it up to see if it was her singing actually) - but it does seem quite catchy for now; perhaps has the potential to grow. Great to see 'Heaven' re-enter - it's received a really powerful yet somewhat underplayed video and I think everything works together so well. The song itself holds the ingredients of the perfect pop song with its ability to put forward an important message, dressed in short and sweet pop hooks and remembering to have a catchy melody as its basis.

I found it way more instant than Closer actually, that one took ages to grow on me and still I never properly loved it! All We Know and Setting Fires were just promo singles anyway, I think they could've been bigger if they got a push! 23. Indeed, really rooting for them to do well with it! 24. I'm the exact same as you actually, I didn't really take notice of it on the album but it's a fantastic single choice, should appeal to the James Arthur fans at the moment, I'd have picked this for his X Factor performance single rather than Famous actually! 36. Hey Liam, thanks for commenting! Shame to hear you're not totally into the Ed songs! I liked the x era more than I thought I would so my hype for album 3 was pretty high. Both songs have definitely delivered for me, although I am interested to see how much I'm loving them in a few months! You Need Me is actually my least favourite of his, I find it a tad annoying but I do like the vast majority of his songs. Give Me Love is my favourite though, definitely an underrated track! I think Paris continues the style of Closer without being a total rip-off which is a good move for them, it has its own identity. I wish Emily Warren was a bit more prominent actually because Drew really isn't that strong a vocalist but I can look past that really. You summed HEAVEN up perfectly, a real stunner of a track and it puts the message across in a really great way (as does the video), without being in-your-face or preachy. I would love by some miracle for it to become a hit, but nevertheless it seems to be getting loads of praise online which is something at least!
