Chart Commentary

Firstly, thanks to all of those who have commented on my charts recently! Rest assured that I do read all of your comments even if I don't reply. I am LONG overdue to return the favour to you all, so I'll do my very best to get on it over the coming week.

Proving that lightning very much does strike twice, Norwegian DJ Matoma and British pop group The Vamps come together for a second time, and a second #1 on my chart. Staying Up is this week's highest new entry, and follows in the footsteps of their previous collaboration All Night, which reached #1 just under a year ago. All Night and Staying Up are Matoma's only #1s, although he has two other top 10 hits, in the form of False Alarm with Becky Hill, and Take Me Back with Christopher - both of which charted concurrently with All Night's debut week, giving Matoma three top 40 hits in the same week.

Staying Up is actually a record-breaking #1! Whilst One Direction have held the record for most #1s in my chart for a long time now, they were tied earlier this year by The Vamps when their Mike Perry and Sabrina Carpenter collaboration Hands made #1, giving them their eleventh chart topper. Staying Up is therefore their twelfth, and finally One Direction's record is overtaken as The Vamps now claim the title of most #1s in my chart! To date, none of their singles have missed #1, and their tally of top 10 hits stands at 14 - the two unaccounted for songs being b-side Hurricane and album track Volcano.

Making her return after a couple of years, Paloma Faith scores her fifth top 10 hit in my chart this week with comeback single Crybaby. The British singer/songwriter debuted at #26 last week, and claims the title of highest climber as it vaults 19 places to #7 this week. Crybaby follows #8 hit Just Be, which impacted properly after I saw her live in 2013; #3 hit Can't Rely On You, released in a hugely competitive week in my chart and ultimately losing out to Shakira's Can't Remember to Forget You and Lily Allen's Air Balloon; #2 hit Only Love Can Hurt Like This, which was blocked from the top by Ariana Grande's Problem; and #10 hit Ready For the Good Life. Whilst she has no singles chart #1s, she has two #1 albums, with both Fall to Grace and A Perfect Contradiction.

Paloma Faith
2012 15 Never Tear Us Apart | 3 | 15-19-26-X (3 weeks)

2017 07 Crybaby | 1 | 26-7-... (2+ weeks)

The Saturdays are one of the most successful artists in the history of my chart, but only Mollie King has followed that up with any form of solo success. Back to You was a #1 last summer in a hugely competitive week (which saw six new songs in my top 6, and The Tide's Click My Fingers dropping 1-7 to break the record fall from the top), and although it wasn't a long-runner by any means, it was one of only two Sats solo tracks to chart, alongside Una Healy's #40 single Stay My Love. Mollie follows up that #1 a year later with another top 10 hit. Hair Down debuts at #9 this week, and whilst it's a less impressive debut than its preceding entry, it gives her a second top 10 as a soloist, to add to the ten she achieved in The Saturdays (including four #1s, plus my biggest #2 hit ever, What About Us).

Mollie King
2016 01 Back to You | 1 | 14-1-5-17-30-36-X (6 weeks)
2017 09 Hair Down | 2 | 9-... (1+ weeks)

It's been hanging around for a while already, but Camila Cabello finally scores her fourth top 10 hit with Havana, which jumps 7 places up to #10 this week. It entered the chart a month ago alongside OMG, which is down to #37 itself this week (although Havana is an official single now while OMG is simply a promotional track). While Camila herself is no stranger to the top 10, having scored three solo top 10s before Havana as well as six with Fifth Harmony, Young Thug scores his very first hit to reach the top region of my chart, having never made my top 40 before.

Camila Cabello
2015 05 I Know What You Did Last Summer (Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello) | FEAT | 16-33-X-22-20-19-20-27-36-X-39-X-8-5-8-16-22-30-34-X (16 non-consecutive weeks)
2016 23 Bad Things (Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello) | FEAT | 37-23-26-32-36-38-X (6 weeks)
2017 04 Crying in the Club | 1 | 4-6-9-14-21-27-34-X (7 weeks)
2017 09 I Have Questions | PS | 9-17-29-38-X (4 weeks)
2017 10 Havana (feat. Young Thug) | 2 | 13-16-21-17-10-... (5+ weeks)
2017 15 OMG (feat. Quavo) | PS | 15-19-28-29-37-... (5+ weeks)

Young Thug
2017 10 Havana (Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug) | FEAT | 13-16-21-17-10-... (5+ weeks)

Elsewhere in my chart this week, the top 20 sees a few climbers inching their way towards the top 10. PRETTYMUCH's Would You Mind has spent 7 weeks hovering between #12 and #20, and this week it climbs 6 places back up to #13. Whether it will make the top 10 remains to be seen, but it's notching up an impressive chart run regardless. Katy Perry's Swish Swish has already been a #2 hit, but it this week takes the title of longest runner now Harry Styles' Sign of the Times has dropped out, and celebrates it with a climb up to #16. Also, J Balvin and Willy William both achieve a new personal best, as Mi Gente rises four places to a new peak of #12. Chart debuts this week come from Tessa (collaborating with Mike Perry on Stay Young), Logic, Khalid and Why Don't We.

Hey Joseph!

New Matoma/Vamps isn't hitting me yet, I eventually came round to All Night tho so can't write it off!

MUCH preferring the new Taylor song, very impressive that landing straight in the UK top 10

Been meaning to hear that new Mike Perry song, hopefully it's as good as Inside The Lines

Quite liking the Logic song too, I see it's about to blow up big!

Great stuff here biggrin.gif

Hey Joseph!

1. Matoma & The Vamps - Staying Up - 1- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** This is actually a great song, I'm really loving it! I prefer it to MOTN, really enjoying how feelgood and uplifting it is and they sound great on it!
2. Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do - 17-1-2-
4. Justin Bieber & BloodPop® - Friends - 5-1-4-4-
6. CNCO & Little Mix - Reggaetón Lento - 22-2-5-6-
7. Paloma Faith - Crybaby - 26-7- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** Not a bad song but I just wanted her to come back with something really epic! I can't see this being much of a hit sadly sad.gif
8. P!nk - What About Us - 29-1-3-6-8-
9. Mollie King - Hair Down - 9- Very catchy but the na-na-na bits are SO annoying unsure.gif and there's something about the lyrics and her delivery of them which makes me cringe a bit (especially the part about sex), maybe it's just me! I'm surprised she didn't go for something more current sounding tbh.
10. Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug - Havana - 13-16-21-17-10-
14. Louis Tomlinson feat. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals - Back to You - 8-1-1-1-3-7-10-14-
16. Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj - Swish Swish - 2-3-5-7-10-14-16-25-32-33-32-32-24-25-20-16- ** LONGEST RUNNER **
17. Taylor Swift - ...Ready For It? - 17- If by it she means the album then yes, yes I am smile.gif (although I'm looking forward to it more on the strength of this than LWYMMD tbh)
19. Avicii feat. Rita Ora - Lonely Together - 2-6-9-19-
20. Kesha - Praying - 1-3-3-5-4-4-9-13-20-
21. Dua Lipa - New Rules - 4-5-7-7-7-7-11-15-21-
24. Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry - 2-4-6-10-8-10-18-22-24-
25. Jason Derulo - If I'm Lucky - 25- Not his most instant but I can definitely see it being a grower.
31. Charli XCX - Boys - 29-9-9-12-19-24-31-
32. Declan McKenna - Brazil - 20-21-24-28-32-
33. Harry Styles - Two Ghosts - 5-6-9-12-16-20-29-30-33- I know it was never going to be a big hit but I thought it would have got at least *some* kind of boost after the Jonathan Ross performance ohmy.gif (coupled with Radio 1 airplay)
35. Enrique Iglesias feat. Sean Paul & Matt Terry - SÚBEME LA RADIO - 5-11-14-18-23-25-35-
38. Declan McKenna - Humongous - 18-3-8-16-27-38-

Great stuff as usual biggrin.gif

hi Joseph.

'Staying Up' may be the best song The Vamps have done to date, very danceable. Good to see this wasn't the song to break their #1 streak here, and knocking Taylor down in the process. *_
I quite like the new new Taylor single though, annoying that she didn't release that as her comeback single but from a sales/marketing point of view LWYMMD was probably the right decision just for the amount of discussion it created (any publicity is good laugh.gif )

great chart~
