"Wasabi" mid-table

Bye x

Here for a 'Wasabi' or 'Forget You Not' win. cheer.gif

'The Cure (Stripped)' for last place pls, swiftly followed by 'Told You So'.

Posted by: Juliano 5th December 2018, 06:05 PM

I'm imagining

Top:
Wasabi
Forget You Not
Monster In Me

High:
Woman Like Me
Think About Us
American Boy
The Cure

Mid:
Strip
Joan Of Arc
More Than Words
Motivate
Notice
Only You

Low:
The National Manthem
Love A Girl Right
Told You So
The Cure (Stripped)

Bottom:
Woman's World

18. The National Manthem

Average: 6.06

High Scores: 8 - Mr Loverboy, ShindyMindy
Low Scores: 3 - Calum, 4 - Harry, Lee

In last place, we have the intro to LM5 (& obvs the shortest track on the album), 'The National Manthem'.

I wish this was a full track as I love this as an intro but as there wasn't much to go off from what we got. I'm not the biggest fan of intro as they either leave me wanting more usually or they're forgettable & I never return to them (the last two intro's I remember stanning are Mad House by Rihanna & The Best Part by Meghan Trainor, the latter issa bop x). This got so many average scores (mostly between 5 and 7) with a couple of 11's and a couple of 4's + a 3. Anyway this was acc pretty close to snatching 17th place, which would've been a very successful result for a track that's only an intro!

Posted by: UltraReputation 5th December 2018, 06:13 PM

17. The Cure (Stripped)

Average: 6.14

High Scores: 9 - Calum & Theo, 8.5 - UltraReputation
Low Scores: 1 - Mr Loverboy, 4 - Doug, ShindyMindy

Just beating the intro is the first of the four deluxe tracks to pop up which is the stripped back version of The Cure.

Ugh I love this song so so much and it deserves way better than this!! I did think this would at least avoid the bottom 3 and this def deserves higher than some of the songs still to come. The original is probs my fave on the album and even tho the stripped back version isn't anywhere near as good as the original, it's a beautiful interpretation of the track, the girls vocals shine & as a deluxe track it's fine. This had scores ranging from really high to average to low haha, so really a mixed bag amongst y'all! Tho an average +6 is nothing to be snuffed at. Also this has one of the haters from the last song posted joining the lovers category whilst both the lovers for The National Manthem switch to the haters section for this one!!

Posted by: JerdNoseReindeer 5th December 2018, 06:27 PM

'Only You' should be last tbh but that's a totally acceptable bottom 2 nevertheless.

'Joan of Arc' should be slaying this but it seems to be very marmite so I'm expecting mid-table at best sad.gif 'Wasabi' to win out of realistic contenders!

Posted by: Joeflake 5th December 2018, 10:51 PM

Neither of those two are shockers at all.

Posted by: liamk97 5th December 2018, 11:07 PM

I expected 'The Cure (Stripped)' to do better but it's definitely my pick for last place out of the full songs. It just feels so unnecessary to strip it back so much; usually artists do that to highlight the emotion in a song, but the original does that anyway. I also don't think they sound very good together in the chorus.

Compare it to the acoustic version of 'Touch' and you see how one works and the other doesn't.

Only You belongs top five

Posted by: MrLoverboy 5th December 2018, 11:53 PM

Only You (Stripped) is a mess after we got that beautiful Touch rendition for Glory Days. This "stripped" version should have been a spotify thing only if it became a single to help boost streams. It didn't deserve a place on the album.

16. Love A Girl Right

Average: 6.81

High Scores: 10 - defaze. 9 - leonagwen & Theo.
Low Scores: 3 - UltraReputation

Next at #16, we have probably a shock, well for me at least I think it is. 'Love A Girl Right' finishes in 16th.

The song, which samples 'Thong Song' *_*, is very "strong filler from the 'Salute' era" for me. So maybe it's not that surprising after all, but I definitely expected it to have more fans. It reminds me of 'About The Boy' for some reason. The sample is really infectious and it's got a catchy hook, however, in comparison to the rest of the album I feel like it's the most fillery of them all? Nothing wrong with filler as strong as this though ofc.

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 6th December 2018, 12:59 AM

15. Notice

Average: 6.97

High Scores: 9 - UltraReputation, Jade
Low Scores: 3 - Haz

Up next is the retro-y mid tempo ballad, 'Notice'.

A song which I overmarked with a "7" I feel. But that's the beauty of these "first impressions" rates. It's a sultry and sexy number, one that I feel is like the older sister to 'FU' from 'Glory Days'. It's ok for the most part, but I dunno, with more listens it's starting to grate on me a lil. It's definitely the weakest on the album for me.

Posted by: UltraReputation 6th December 2018, 01:01 AM

Bye forgettable girl right x Idk why I gave notice as high as a 9, I really like it don't get me wrong but it'd be more like 7.5 or 8 maximum now from me!

Posted by: Juliano 6th December 2018, 10:14 AM

No shocks so far really, I'm surprised at how well Woman's World is but that's only because it was my lowest rated track and really none of the tracks are bad anyway.

Posted by: Joeflake 6th December 2018, 02:46 PM

14 Told You So

Average:7.23

High Scores: 10 - Calum
Low Scores: 4 - Lee

I....don't love this. When I heard it was a song written by Raye and MNEK I was like 'ok girls, we're going to get a bop!'. Instead it's kind of like their very own Little Things (with admittedly a slightly cuter sentiment). All in all, this is too saccharine for me and possibly my least favourite on the album and it was very lucky to get a 7 from me. thank u, next.
Big

Posted by: liamk97 6th December 2018, 03:07 PM

Aw I like Told You So! It's like their version of Girl by Destiny's Child. Such a supportive song, it's like listening to genuine conversation. I guess I can see why people would find it too sweet but I think it's executed just right.

Random but what's with the... random ellipsis you keep using Joe? tongue.gif I notice it's used by everyone at Popjustice but I just don't get it haha

I don't know, I guess it's just a random trend that I've subconsciously picked up. I like it, it feels kind of conversational. Sorry, if it's annoying I'll try cut down as much as i can! ...

Posted by: Defaze 6th December 2018, 03:34 PM

'Love a Girl Right' is criminally low. I don't think I'd rate it a 10 now after spamming the album for a few weeks, but I'd still place it ahead of a good majority of the tracklist.

I really like 'Notice' too, but it is pretty forgettable. 'Told You So' bowing out early looks about right. It's cute but unspectacular.

'Strip' out next tbh (or Woman's World).

Aw no don't worry I wasn't suggesting you should stop, sorry if it came across like it was a bad thing. Just something I had noticed particularly on Popjustice (they use that "ddddd" thing which I'm even more confused at). I'm just slow on forum talk and trends!

I adore this lyrically. It's a very well written song with some haunting lyrics. However, I find melodically it's a little forgettable. In fact, I'm trying to remember the chorus now and am getting the 'More Than Words' chorus instead. Talent won!

Agreed with the comments on Woman's World. I think the message of the song is great but it doesn't do much for me melodically.

Cher's Woman's World >>>> Little Mix's Woman's World.

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 6th December 2018, 04:04 PM

'Woman's World' is the song I rated the least. Butttt, I've come around to it a lot now. It's so beautiful and probably their best song, lyrically! (YYYYEEESSS Jade wub.gif)

Aw I'm sad that "Told You So" is so low! sad.gif That and "Love a Girl Right" are the first two proper losses, I definitely overmarked "The Cure (Stripped)" as I love the original so much - I'm glad that it's not dropped yet!

‘Notice’ is so underrated! I love the sultry 50 Shades vibes and Perrie has some excellent vocal moments on it.

12. American Boy

Average:7.42

High Scores: 10 - Theo & Joe
Low Scores: 3 - Lee; 6 - CardiB

At #12 we have 'American Boy'.

This is a very summery, chilled, uptempo bop. A song that I can see easily fitting nicely in 'Salute' (especially amongst 'About The Boy'/'Boy') I'm finding this quite irresistably catchy and endearing. I voted it a 7.5, which is probs fair for me tbh, but I'm coming back to it more than Inthought I originally would. Cute.

Posted by: UltraReputation 9th December 2018, 03:24 AM

Woman's world deserved top 10, lyrically incredible and I think it's a beautiful song as well 😍 Tf American boy missed.

#11 coming up later this morning! Any predictions? x

Posted by: liamk97 9th December 2018, 03:42 AM

American Boy deserved Top 10! On an album of less highs, this would be a great single.

Ideally either Only You or Forget You Not will be out next. I suspect the former is more likely.

Posted by: Joeflake 9th December 2018, 09:39 AM

I love American Boy! It goes to show the quality of this album with such good songs falling out this early!

11. Joan Of Arc

Average:7.53

High Scores: 11 - Jade & Leonagwen, 10 - Harry & Liamk97

Yassss bye *.* so glad this missed the top 10 😂 I'm usually so here for messy little mix songs (I love power and it's my fave on glory days, possibly my fave LM song fullstop) but this is just a complete and utter mess that hasn't grown on me and isn't enjoyable at all. This reminds me a lot of the light is coming which is also dreadful and the I put a ring on it part is beyond irritating. Dreadful song and probs my least fave LM song ever haha. The production is jarring and all the random screaming is so messy 😭

10. Only You

Average:7.84

High Scores: 10 - UV, Lee, Leonagwen
Low Scores: 3 - Jade

My view on this song:

Kicking off the top 10 with have their collab with Cheat Codes which was added to the deluxe as the last track (probably for stream sales) Basically, it's faceless, a bit forgettable, not very Little Mix, feels like a lesser-Anywhere, but...it's still cute! The vocals and production are really good and it's particularly nice when they do it live, it really comes alive.

Posted by: JerdNoseReindeer 9th December 2018, 10:00 PM

The worst thing that Little Mix have ever released, next x

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 9th December 2018, 10:26 PM

I ADOREEEEE Only You. I appreciate that it's faceless and generic etc.. But it bops and I feel like it's actually a lil under appreciated.

Joan Of Arc was a weird song at first, but it's irresistably catchy! It really gets stuck in your head.

Posted by: liamk97 9th December 2018, 10:42 PM

Only You kinda passed me by at the time. It's not actually that bad, it's just totally beneath them, especially when they otherwise seem to push the pop sound further with each era.

Posted by: Defaze 10th December 2018, 12:08 AM

I kind of love 'Only You' more now than when it was released. Underrated bop. Perrie's opening verse. wub.gif

09. Motivate

Average:7.86

High Scores: 10 - Defaze:
Low Scores: 4.5 - UV

A load of 9s for this song, but only one 10 from Defaze. 'Motivate' is Jesy's favourite on the album, and the song she wants to release next as a single. I personally think this is a real fun track, though I'm not 100% would be a smash but it would be a good radio single in my opinion.

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 10th December 2018, 03:32 PM

I LOOOVE 'Motivate' and I can actually see it working really well as a single, even though on paper it shouldn't. It'd def be a 10 from me now. So catchy and just an ear worm.

If they were to remix and release it as a single as single 4 or something, adding Stefflon would work I reckon.

Posted by: Juliano 10th December 2018, 05:54 PM

I really wouldn't mind it as a single either!

Posted by: Defaze 10th December 2018, 07:50 PM

I adore 'Motivate', but I still think 'Monster In Me', 'Wasabi' and 'Forget You Not' are all better single choices.

08. More Than Words (feat. Kamile)

Average:7.94

High Scores: 10 - Joe & liamk97
Low Scores: 6 - HarryEzra & MrLoverboy

As we continue into the top 10, at #8 we have the nice but slightly overproduced 'More Than Words'.

I feel like the production is what makes this song a bit hit or miss for people. I don't mind it as such, but I can see why people wouldn't rate it much. The lyrics are gorgeous though and the effects on their vocals really add to it. It's really endearingly catchy I think. Not sure it'd work as a single, but one of my friends (who is neither a fan or not a fan of them) checked out the album on the back of this song and she loved it. So... Maybe it wouldn't be a bad single choice?

Posted by: Joeflake 10th December 2018, 09:43 PM

The second best ballad on the album IMO. Better than The Cure (if you count that).

Posted by: liamk97 10th December 2018, 09:53 PM

I wouldn't call 'More Than Words' over-produced at all. Part of the appeal for me is how it injects the right amount of drama into the song whilst allowing the vocals and lyrics to be at the forefront. It's my favourite ballad from the album and, like Joe said, better than 'The Cure' (although that is still great).

'Motivate' is quite the grower! It does sound like a single but in a similar way to 'American Boy' where they'd be great choices if on an album with less highs.

Posted by: JerdNoseReindeer 10th December 2018, 09:55 PM

The verses of 'More Than Words' are fascinating but the overlong pauses in the chorus leave the whole thing feeling a bit stilted! There was definitely potential for an amazing song here but it didn't quite meet the mark. Definitely not bad though! Kamille was a wonderful choice of feature.

Posted by: Joeflake 10th December 2018, 10:01 PM

I ADORE the production on it! Charli XCX snapped.

Posted by: Defaze 10th December 2018, 10:24 PM

I agree the verses are superior to the chorus, but 'More Than Words' is still fantastic overall. I'd class it, 'Monster in Me' and 'Towers' as their top 3 ballads.

Surprised that 'Strip' and WLM are both still in -- I figured they'd prove a lot more polarising after some of the comments on here.

Posted by: xan 11th December 2018, 02:32 PM

"More Than Words" deserved a higher position. It's one of the most "interesting" songs they have ever released.

"Woman Like Me' needs to go.

07. Strip Ft. Sharaya J

Average:8.13

High Scores: 10 - Liam, Haz, Leonagwen, Juliano 11 - SamJudd
Low Scores: 3 - Lee

Here we have abandoned single 'Strip', which was downgraded to a promo single for whatever reason. I had it on good authority that a Strip Spotify vertical video was shot, so it's a bit sad we never got that. But it *was* a risky choice. Personally, I think it might have been a smash, but we'll never know, it could have also tanked and 'Think About Us' is a much more generic and safer choice. At least it got its #25 peak!

Posted by: JerdNoseReindeer 11th December 2018, 05:31 PM

My 9 for 'Strip' would definitely be a 10 now wub.gif which means I'm all the more gutted that it's not the second single laugh.gif

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 11th December 2018, 10:15 PM

Strip is so infectious. As divisive as it is, I can't help but feel they shoulda just pulled through with it. I feel like it would've been a big hit for them especially amongst the controversy surrounding the video to it!

A bop that worms it's way into your head.

Posted by: liamk97 12th December 2018, 12:51 AM

I liked the fact Strip would have been a risky second choice of single and I think the girls would have been able to make it a hit. I can see why it wouldn't work as a single to sell the album over Christmas, but then again they haven't actually promoted Think About Us yet so maybe it wouldn't matter.

06. The Cure

Average:8.63

High Scores: 10 - Theo, Jonjo & SamJudd 11 - Ultraviolence & Calum
Low Scores: 6 - Doug

Just missing out on a top 5 position is the stunning, instant grat single 'The Cure'. The hook, melody and vocals are the closest to 'Glory Days' we are going to get on this album. It's such an anthemic, euphoric and uplifting song. In the same vein as 'Nothing Else Matters'. It's very 'Out Of the Woods' by Taylor too (her best song x) so I was always gonna love this. I feel like this would make a good single after something less safe than TAU like 'Wasabi' or 'Strip' or something. One of the songs I keep coming back to the most on the album. A banger.

Woman Like Me (feat. Nicki Minaj)

03. Think About Us
04. Monster In Me
05. Woman Like Me

'The Cure' definitely sounds like the sort of song people would really stan for. I don't like it quite as much but it is a strong song. I like the contrast of Perrie's simple "oohs" in the post-chorus to the snappy, powerful chorus.

'Forget You Not' is too high. I like it but there are so many highs on this album and this really isn't one of them. Find it interesting that 'Think About Us' is in the Top 5 when it being announced as a single was met with a bit of disappointment, although I guess the general opinion was that it was too safe a choice when you consider there's plenty of bold or more interesting production styles on the album. Speaking of which, I'm thrilled 'Wasabi' has made the Top 5. 'Monster in Me' being the top ballad is also very pleasing.

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 13th December 2018, 12:47 AM

Yeah. I think the general "disappointment" was people just thinking it was a little too safe in comparison to the daring but infectious (rumoured single at the time) 'Strip'.

I adore TAU though and although NMSS is a superior version of it (imo) I think this sound really works for them!

Think about us is the 2nd single afaik (tho they're really serving Reputation era levels of confusion of 2nd single atm, can my faves stop doing this) and is our opener to the top 5! I'm kinda surprised this isn't top 3 ngl, let alone missing 4th place! This is a pretty generic bop but LM do this SO well and this is easily one of the highlights on the album/an obvs single choice. This just bops so badly and I love the verses and the na-na-na part. I really hope this is massive for them if it is a single, a true highlight of LM5. Tho the ty dolla sign/rapper rumour better not be true x

Also I'm lowkey surprised this only got one 11, I thought this was more people's outright fave!

So dropping next is the lead single from LM5, woman like me!
WLM missed the #1 spot in the charts which many expected it to grab but has acc surprisingly had really good longevity! I know this is the lead single but I'm kinda shocked it made the top 4 here (and I can see it dropping out next time we do this). For me personally, it's their weakest lead single by miles and their only lead that I don't love sad.gif tho don't get me wrong this is still a low-key bop but I'd probs have it like 7 or 8 places lower here haha. This also features the person who we shan't speak of doing another meh rap verse and her announcement as being on the track def deflated my hype a lot before this was released. A solid single but nowhere near their best.

This got no 11's but scores an average of nearly 9 as it only received one score under 8!

Think About Us is sfg. Was an instant fave since first listen. It's very if 'No More Sad Songs' and 'Touch' had a baby. Pleased to see it top 5 (I'm not too surprised it's higher as I believe the general consensus is that it's generic af but bops)

Woman Like Me is a bop too. I get why it was pushed as a single, but I'd have preferred it not to have been the lead tbh. Although, the video is probably their best to date imo. What a video heart.gif

Think About Us is a bop. It's just very Glory Day Platinum edition bonus track.

03. Monster In Me

Average: 9

High Scores: Joe, UV, Jonjo, MrLoverboy, CardiB, Juliano, SamJudd, Calum(10) Doug (11)
Low Scores: Xan (5)

Lil Xan, what's good?!

I'm never one for pure pop ballads usually, like ever, even with my favourite artists. I usually prefer Lana Del Rey kind of indie pop ballads, and go to pop girls for the pops, something about them usually don't feel as sincere or something. But I was genuinely in love with this the moment I heard it. The chorus, the "Monster in me, mmmMmmMMM" post chorus and most importantly the lyrics which seem to display a kind of torn/destructive relationship which feels quite raw and melancholic. I really think this is their best ballad ever and would have made a great winter single.

Well, what can I say? I don't particularly like this song (even though I tried!). But I seem to be the only one that feels this way... so congrats to MIM for a top 3 position! rolleyes.gif

Oh wow, Wasabi really is benefiting from a lot of 11s... Hopefully it received enough lower scores for Forget You Not to triumph!

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 13th December 2018, 10:56 PM

Monster In Me is INCRED. So raw and powerful! They do the pop ballads like no other girl group imo. This, Towers, These Four Walls and Secret Love Song are all astounding.

Wasabi vs Forget You Not

WHO HAS WON!???

'Monster In Me' is another that has risen from a 9 to a 10 for me now wub.gif it's absolutely gorgeous. 'Wasabi' to win!

Someone will have to fill me in about what's so special about 'Forget Me Not'. Should be 'Forget Me Yes'. x

Think I was a bit harsh on 'Woman Like Me' after the first few times I listened to it. I mean, it was a disappointment that it basically ripped off 'Side to Side' and I guess I've just come to expect Little Mix to always be at the top of the game and 'Woman Like Me' just didn't deliver that. With repeated listens, it is definitely a bop and the message sums up the album but in a very accessible way, so the choice to make it lead single definitely makes sense.

'Monster in Me' is beautiful. This definitely needs to be a single at some point. Could quite easily be their best ballad of all tbh.

So here we go, the top 2

Wasabi vs Forget You Not

GOTCHU ON MY RAD... Ooops. Wrong album.

Falalalalala lala la laaaaa

DO YOU THINK ABOUT UUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSS

#StreamThinkAboutUs

02. Forget You Not

Average: 9.00

High Scores: 11 - Theo, Joe, defaze & Lee; 10 - Jonjo, shindy & MrLoverboy
Low Scores: 6 - CardiB & liamk97

And in the runners up position, we have the future 9 week #1, club staple SMASH, 'Forget You Not'. Everything about this song is executed so perfectly. It's so on trend and very streaming and radio friendly. I feel like this would crossover to more than just their fanbase. We can all hope that they "do a Nicki" and release a deluxe track as a single, coz this really deserves to have it's time to shine anddddd... It's a deluxe track, only the die hards invest in the deluxe versions so a lot of their fanbase/casual fans won't have experienced or heard this... kink.gif (ok slight exaggeration but still... laugh.gif) I feel this would do very well as a single and it wouldn't need a feature to boost it.

01. Wasabi

Average: 9.47

High Scores: 11 - Liam, Haz, Jonjo, shindy, CardiB, Juliano & Liamk97; 10 - UV, defaze, Jade, MrLoverboy, leonagwen & SamJudd
Low Scores: 6 - Theo, Lee & Calum

'Wasabi' is the First Impressions Rate winner of LM5!

JADE. THIRLWALL. DID. THAT.

At just 2 minutes and 34 seconds long, Wasabi packs more punch than any pop single of the last 12 months. A topic about how they are treated and represented in the press, this rather ironically, became even more true as the events with Piers unfolded. This is fast becoming a firm fave of mine in the LM discography. I love how erratic and structured it really is. It's brave, bold and big for anyone, let alone a predominantly pure pop girl group like these Ladies. We love boundary pushing pop and this really nails that. A very well deserved winner and I'm looking forward to seeing if it ever becomes a single.

YESS my second favourite of the album winning, so pleased with that wub.gif 'Wasabi' is so fun and fierce, it's amazing to see them tackling rumours in such a way.

Thanks Joe, Jonjo and Sam for this <3

Comments coming tomorrow but f*** YESSSSSS WASABI!!!!

Thank you to Sam (who did the bulk of the work by adding and totalling the scores up and the formatting of the results), Joe for getting this thing underway and being persistent with me and UV to post a result and to both of them for doing amazing work throughout with the commentary and things.

Thanks to everyone who's commented and rated in this and helped make this a success. wub.gif It's really appreciated heart.gif

Okay so Forget Me Not is alright. It is trendy but I don't feel the adoration everyone else does for it. Feels very deluxe track to me.

Wasabi however is such a statement!! Didn't realise it received so many 11s but it's so deserved. It balances being 'edgy' and having melody so well and the lyrics are just fantastic. Jesy and Jade are on fiiiire!! So snappy and witty, full of attitude and had that Little Mix charm. Just has to be a single and what potential for a killer video!

Thanks to all the mids involved in this rate, been so good to share opinions on what I probably consider their best album to date.

Meh. I'm still not loving "Wasabi" but I haven't really listened to the lyrics properly. "Forget You Not" on the other hand is one of my all time favourites already, I knew it would be good when Perrie first teased it but it has more than lived up to my expectations

Thank you to the mod team for running this!
