BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Carly Rae Jepsen 'Run Away With Me'

Posted by: ┌ ╫ ┘ Jun 13 2015, 01:12 PM

produced by shellback and out next month.

here is a live performance from a far away mythical land called china:

i must say i'm not sure quite how i feel atm regarding it

Posted by: Ryan. Jun 14 2015, 01:29 AM

It sounds potentially massive to me, are they bagpipes I hear? However, I feel like she's lost the chance of getting future success in the US as I doubt radio will pick her up in a big way again after 'I Really Like You' not being massive. The UK and Ireland still seem to be here for her though!

Posted by: mr_aly Jun 14 2015, 09:41 PM

I think it sounds incredible, seems to have a really strong melody. I hope the studio version delivers.

Posted by: Acidburn Jun 15 2015, 11:06 AM

Sounds interesting, but I'll wait until the official version leaks before I can give a proper opinion.

POP MUSIC EMERGENCY!!

https://soundcloud.com/stef-138/rawm

This is so incredibly instant, so catchy, massive ad-libs in the final chorus! ohmy.gif wub.gif This in HQ will be sensational!

Posted by: Ryan. Jun 22 2015, 11:09 AM

The middle 8, the 'Run Away With Me' chant throughout the song, the insanely catchy saxophone/bagpipe sound. This is massive, I'm in love! wub.gif

Posted by: LeeWallace Jun 22 2015, 11:13 AM

I really hope Radio 1 and Capital support 'Run Away With Me' because this could be absolutely massive.

Posted by: Joe. Jun 22 2015, 11:17 AM

This could be massive for her. It's great. heart.gif

Hopefully get's more support than IRLY in the UK but more importantly in USA.

Posted by: Liаm Jun 22 2015, 11:25 AM

THIS IS AMAZING

NO WORDS. So much better than IRLY, which I kinda went off quickly. It was a blatant attempt at recreating CMM, which ultimately failed as it was just cute for a whille unlike CMM which is still pop perfection. This is much more anthemic and just a "bigger" sounding song, surefire hit with support.

Posted by: J▲hq Jun 22 2015, 11:27 AM

I don't think it's better than "I Really Like You" which is one of my songs of the year, but it is really catchy and a nice follow-up.

Posted by: Mattias Jun 22 2015, 11:36 AM

This is great! The production and melody are fab. I love 'I Really Like You' too, have a feeling I'm gonna get the album.

Posted by: jark Jun 22 2015, 12:27 PM

Run Away With Me is f***ing phenom. Song of the summer contender.

Posted by: Jade Jun 22 2015, 01:21 PM

This is easily the best song of hers that I've ever heard wub.gif So instant like you said. She has delved in some horrors in the past (mainly: 'Tonight I'm Getting Over You') but this blows any of these out of the water. Sold on first listen!

Posted by: Scherz Jun 22 2015, 02:20 PM

This should have been the comeback, it's huge! ohmy.gif
I think this would have got her taken more seriously if she'd have returned with this.
Considering IRLY was a hit over here, I hope she gets the support she deserves.
I don't think it sounds like a #1 but I think it could match the success of 'Good Time'.

Posted by: *Tim Jun 22 2015, 02:24 PM

This is actually quite good, altho after IRLY it wasn't hard to up her game

Posted by: Robot Jun 22 2015, 02:25 PM

This is pretty incredible really, isn't it? For me, it's like when Taylor did "I Knew You Were Trouble" and she was no longer a girl just doing cute, fun pop, she was really making big stuff. This is undeniably fantastic and everything a pop song should be without any of the cringe "I Really Like You" tagged along with it. Extremely impressed.

Whether she still has enough support to do well anymore, I'm not sure. Scherz might have a very good point that she'd be in a much better position right now if she'd have led with this.

Posted by: Noahspike Jun 22 2015, 02:41 PM

Yep, sounds like a smash. Very very catchy and exactly what she needs as a follow-up.

I still think it was smart to lead with 'I Really Like You' though, as she was gone so long and that song's cutesy novelty appeal was in the same vein as the only thing she was remembered for, so it was a clever re-introduction (and I say that as someone who's actually indifferent to the song itself). If she'd led with this, I'm not sure it would have made the same impact from the off, however now she's regained the profile for it to fulfil its potential.

I agree. I can't speak for other countries, as she had very varying levels of success in different countries, but I don't think this would have gotten the same support IRLY had gotten initially, because it had been so long since she had a hit, but stands more of a chance now that she had decent success with a slightly more novelty song.

Posted by: Scherz Jun 22 2015, 03:09 PM

IRLY made very little impact regardless of whether it was novelty or not. It's more annoying than novelty to me.
It didn't do the job it was supposed to. It re-introduced her but nearly every major market, bar the UK, turned its nose up at the song. I'm talking Germany, Sweden, Aus, US.. Sure, it went top 40 but it was a disappointment.
They could have kept some more of the novelty elements but re-introduced her with this track.
I guarantee that Tom Hanks lip synching to this song would have got the same attention but the single would have performed better because it's a superior track.

Posted by: mr_aly Jun 22 2015, 11:23 PM

It's INCREDIBLE! wub.gif Exactly what I was hoping from it. Great production, good lyrics and what a whopper of a chorus.

I agree, 'I Really Like You' did its job to reintroduce her to the public consciousness when pretty much everyone would have predicted she'd have a muted return at best. She's in a pretty good position for this to do the business for her and I hope it's a hit on the same sort of level at least.

Posted by: barbaric_dan Jun 23 2015, 12:22 AM

I don't think shes in a great position. IRLY was meant to replicate CMM's success hence why Scooter kept saying "It's the better version. It's a huge hit" and getting Bieber to do another video.

Posted by: Jonjo Jun 23 2015, 02:02 AM

This new-wave 80's synth sound in the current pop songs are kinda amazing. I'm LOVING the quality of them all! This song is just brilliant. wub.gif PLEASE be the hit you deserve to be!

Posted by: Jay ジ Jun 23 2015, 03:02 AM

This is excellent! wub.gif I agree that IRLY was the best song to reintroduce herself with, and hopefully this song will keep the momentum going.

This is good but not as incredible as everyone here seems to think. laugh.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Jun 23 2015, 12:24 PM

I Really Like You was the PERFECT song to re-introduce her with, like others have said, it's very much in the same vein as Call Me Maybe and that's what she needed. Maybe this could be her I Knew You Were Trouble. compared with IRLY's We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together though? Hard to say at this early stage of course but it seems possible.

Oh and if IRLY couldn't smash in the US, I'm not sure anything would have, especially with the hype that seemed to have with the video.

I really Like you has been weirdly stable outside the top 40 in the US, it's actually climbed the past two weeks. Up at #59 this week. I think it should manage Gold there at very least.

Absolute truth!

Posted by: Scherz Jun 23 2015, 04:40 PM

Seeing as though I seem to be missing something, would someone mind explaining to me how releasing IRLY was the PERFECT choice and leaves her in a good position in any way?
Personal opinions on the song aside, it flopped. Worldwide. It was catchy, yes. But it did not do the job it was supposed to..
They wanted a huge #1 and it was labelled a superior Call Me Maybe. It managed top 40 and just about scraped through in some territories. The UK was the only place it went top 3. It didn't even make top 10 in Canada!
Yet IRLY has put Carly Rae in a good position? How? Unless you mean UK?

Posted by: mr_aly Jun 23 2015, 04:43 PM

To be honest, I never expected her to even get a charting single in the US again. It's hung around a bit and raised awareness that she's still around, which could set this up well enough.

Posted by: JSG Jun 23 2015, 04:44 PM

She did what The Saturdays usually do and released the less good single first. She should have come back with a bang - ala this new single. It would have been a wiser move.

Posted by: HausofKubrick Jun 23 2015, 09:11 PM

This is absolutely sublime. wub.gif

These pop girls coming out with all the good this past week.

Posted by: Jay ジ Jun 29 2015, 12:52 AM

Just noticed that this is available on Amazon UK, so if anyone is wanting to legally download the track, you can do so from there. I assume it's by mistake!

Posted by: (Zach) Jun 29 2015, 10:39 PM

This is a great song and probably on the same level as IRLY. I think IRLY did well enough, especially for her. It's not like she's an established artist with a lot of hits under her belt and she hasn't had a big hit since Good Time which was three years ago. All that considered I think it has done pretty well for her. I do think this has a better shot in the US though. It's a little more mature and will probably connect with more people.

Posted by: HausofKubrick Jul 3 2015, 08:17 PM

This song is so SPECIAL. I keep going back to it and everytime it offers something new. Had a real moment with it while walking and feeling slightly down (and tipsy) as it was and it just connects. Really hope the public take to it, because it should really go down as a 'Teenage Dream' style CLASSIC.

Posted by: jark Jul 3 2015, 09:15 PM

To be honest having lived with RAWM a couple of weeks I think I Rly Like You is the better song. But that's not to disparage the former at all. I'm not sure it's a hit though.

I think the best section of the album is LA Hallucinations (what a damn banger) through to Didn't Just Come Here to Dance. All amazing. Black Heart is like a flop single discovered on Scandipop circa 08. It's a bit Kylie X and a bit "mysterious" by that Swedish pop girl who was fabulous but swiftly forgotten.

This is how I feel. I really want this to do well though as I love what Carly is bringing in terms of pure pop.

Where's the pre order for this? Do we have a UK release date?

Going to wait until I get a HQ audio before I rate this.

Posted by: Ellis Jul 12 2015, 12:02 PM

This song is utter pop perfection; it's like Charli got her hands on a Tove Lo/Taylor track, revamped it and gave it to Carly! Shellback and Mattman & Robin is the dream Swedish production combo and they've really delivered. I've been listening to the high quality version for around 3 weeks now and the chorus just EXPLODES every time; it's the first song in a while that I've gone "wow, this is incredible" from first listen to present time. I really hope it smashes here, it's too big of a pop song to *not* smash, the thought of hearing it on the radio excites me! 'Boy Problems' on E•MO•TION is also sublime!

Holding back 'I Really Like You' here worked out really well for the song so I'm surprised they went for this kind of release. Hopefully it still gets some support.

Cute video but the song deserves so much better. With this and the quick iTunes release, it's like they're treating it as a promo single or something yet accidentally used her best ever track. :/

Posted by: mr_aly Jul 17 2015, 02:32 PM

she looks like felicia tilman from desperate housewives

Posted by: HausofKübrick Jul 17 2015, 05:55 PM

I found that incredibly adorable. I feel like the song is extremely personal to her which is probably why she went for a found-footage type affair? The globe-trotting makes sense with the "we could turn the world to gold" line and she looks absolutely sublime in all the settings. I don't know if it's the fact that the song is so special that i was loving the video so much. Regardless, it's not what i envisaged the video to be like, but it works quite perfectly.

That sort of veiled sadness behind the happy front that the song represents too. A little 'Amélie'-esque even down to her styling.

I can't get over how good this is sad.gif

I like the videoclip and the song is already one of my favourites this year! Carly Rae Jepsen is literally an oasis in the pop music industry.

Posted by: mr_aly Jul 20 2015, 11:39 AM

This song has received a pretty much a universal rapturous reception from those that have heard it, if only it could find a way to reach the general public. sad.gif

They've ballsed this up big time.

Posted by: HausofKübrick Jul 20 2015, 12:15 PM

I am still holding out hope that it will be a huge success eventually. A song this good and universal just can't be ignored.

A song this huge and undeniable surely has to break out at some point?!

I'm just thinking of examples like Take Me To Church which took ages, this to do the same please sad.gif

Posted by: gooddelta Jul 20 2015, 04:11 PM

I don't think it's certain that radio will ignore it just because it's been released OA/OS, has it got an impact date yet? Maybe radio are just waiting for that as there's no logical reason why they should feel the need to snub a fantastic pop song coming from somebody who's just had a big top three hit.

Posted by: Jonjo Jul 21 2015, 12:46 AM

Let's hope the least this can do is a 'Tonight (I'm Getting Over You)', with the potential for it to have a similar performance to 'One Last Time'... But I would obviously wish and hope for better! Such a brilliant song!

Posted by: Mattias Jul 21 2015, 03:06 PM

Why is it that I'm already starting to like this a bit less? sad.gif I haven't even overplayed it yet.

Posted by: Ryan. Jul 21 2015, 03:12 PM

It is regrowing on me again now, but I sort of feel like it's too instant. It hits you with everything it has on first listen and there's no growing room after that. That's a good thing when it's likely going to get mediocre airplay, but not for us who are more likely to constantly play it.

Posted by: barbaric_dan Jul 21 2015, 08:01 PM

Why the US don't like her is mind boggling considering it's Scooter who manages her.

This song is good. It's not like the third coming like some are saying.

Posted by: Ryan. Jul 28 2015, 01:56 PM

The release date (or impact date) for this is September 11th according to an interview on Lorraine with Carly this morning!

Posted by: Joe. Aug 19 2015, 09:36 PM

Very pleased that this has been playlisted on radio 1. The fact that it's only just outside the top 100 on iTunes with little support is promising that by the time it's on the B list it should start steadily climbing. I hope she gets A listed this time, as IRLY didn't.

And then I feel if this is actually a hit the album could do quite well off the back of it given that it'll housing two very different hits.

Posted by: mr_pmt Aug 19 2015, 10:46 PM

I'm a bit more confident now than I was, Kiss have playlisted it too. Hopefully Capital properly get on board and this can blossom into a proper hit.

I still wish they hadn't done OA/OS with this though, it has to now clamber its way up and may not manage it whereas it probably would have been a more certain hit otherwise.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Aug 20 2015, 02:30 AM

Well OA/OS needs to happen more.

Posted by: HausEveryWeekend Sep 2 2015, 11:08 AM

Posted by: Joe. Sep 2 2015, 11:31 AM

This is setting up to do quite nicely. Alan Carr and Live Lounge the same week. Let's hope Radio 1 A-list it later. It's getting a big boost every time they play it, but it's not being played quite enough to stay stable at the moment. #69 currently.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 2 2015, 04:29 PM

I'm not expecting A-list this week, but hopefully next! Songs usually go C-B-B-A, don't they? So I don't think we'll see her move up this week. sad.gif

Carly just performed a nice slick stripped down version of 'Run Away With Me' and is going to be doing a cover of 'king' which will be uploaded later!

'King'! Ahhhhhhhh!

Posted by: Joe. Sep 17 2015, 01:54 PM

Top 40 might be difficult with streaming but I need this to at least peak higher than #68!

I have hope. Album is out tomorrow, and iTunes advertisement will encourage extra cherry picks, then she has Alan Carr for a mini-boost and then A-list radio 1 support from Monday.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 17 2015, 02:48 PM

'King' is HD, 'Run Away With Me' not yet.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 20 2015, 09:15 AM

Most of all, if the album can just pick up some more sales regardless I'd be most pleased.

'Run Away With Me' has become a success... as a meme on Vine! kink.gif You can see some of the best Vines here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/matwhitehead/run-away-with-meme#.qjN3Z8o4mk (This one is my favourite: https://vine.co/v/eIDV0FtJg6g ) laugh.gif

Kind of strange how it's blown up in this form, but pretty amazing. Run Away With Meme. *.*

Posted by: dhwe Mar 25 2016, 04:05 AM

Some of the vines are hilarious but...I hope it doesn't catch on and become like, a "Call Me Maybe" thing. Like, it probably won't, but I'm just wary because Carly's already experienced having a song be turned into a meme then tossed aside by the public, and she doesn't need it to happen to a song as glorious as this. I mean so far the vines are being made and shared by internet pop stans so I can laugh now because it's pretty much just a fun inside joke for everyone who loved the album (and for those who didn't I guess) but God imagine if it caught on with the larger public and all the people buying the song as a joke*.

*Scenario unlikely to happen so I'm needlessly fretting here but the fact that Buzzfeed has declared it a Thing makes me fret 'cause I'm a nervous wreck

Posted by: Wall Mar 25 2016, 04:26 AM

It's currently #1101 on USA iTunes and it's #680 on UK iTunes ohmy.gif

Some of these really work and others fall flat. The Rihanna one is one of my faves

But the one with https://vine.co/v/ivPE1lpT5X5 clearly reigns supreme. You tell them Adele *.*

Posted by: SeanGrey Mar 27 2016, 12:21 PM

That Adele one cracks me up! rotf.gif

Posted by: Vülker Mar 27 2016, 12:50 PM

I'm surprised no one's made a Tarzan one yet! That intro has always reminded me of the Tarzan yell.

I don't get it. mellow.gif

Posted by: JSG Mar 27 2016, 01:47 PM

I'm sorry but these Run Away With Meme's are hilarious. If they help to get everyone awaree of Run Away With Me and make it the smash it needs to be then I am most definitely all for it.

This meme is my fave <3

Posted by: Liаm Mar 27 2016, 10:26 PM

I don't get what's funny about a lot of these, how is it an amazing hilarious meme to just play the "baby take me to this feeling" line whenever anything at all happens on a vine?? The ones with the opening riff are sometimes amusing enough though.

Has there been a 'Run Away With Me' dub of the ginger guy in the car singing 'Unwritten' yet? Needs to happen.

The song is still poop.

Just a desperate and unfunny campaign from the record label.
