BuzzJack Music Forum _ Lady Gaga _ Do you like 'The Cure'?

Posted by: Hauspital* 13th May 2020, 09:57 PM

Discussion in the AF Idol thread the other day revealed HORRIFYING opinions about this song. I always assumed it was well regarded by Gaga fans, but apparently some of you are not keen on it at all?

So, simply vote in the poll and reveal your vote below.

Let's see who is getting banned from the Gaga forum cheer.gif

It's not a hugely innovative track, nor does it reinvent the wheel. But it's a different style for her and was a beautiful surprise after Coachella.

It's a huge YES from me xo

Voted YES. I hadn't heard it in a long time before giving the AF Idol playlist a spin (unfortunately it didn't make my votes though, don't ban me Bal cry.gif), but it was such a pleasant surprise. A lot better than I remember. wub.gif

wub.gif No ban for this praise!

I said a few weeks ago that this properly hit me and it’s still sounding great now.

At the time of release I wasn’t that keen as I thought it was a regression from Joanne era Gaga but i think that the current situation made me appreciate the lyrics a lot more.

I just find it so generic and lifeless. sad.gif It's not a BAD song as such but it just sounds like watered-down, Spotify filler that just plays unnoticed. I don't think I'd have given it a second chance if it wasn't a Gaga track.

Sorry. sad.gif

Loved it at the time, not as much now but still like it a lot.

I feel had it got a music video it’d be more fondly remembered.

Posted by: Hauspital* 13th May 2020, 10:23 PM

^ that is very true! The lack of visuals definitely impacts the song - when a single has a video it definitely helps see it in a different way.

heart.gif It's ok, she can't win them ALL with EVERYONE. I just think the song excells in its simplicity. Much like the ASIB worked in being stripped back, this was no thrills and just a solid pop song with a cute message. But I do get your point to some extent x

I don't often return to it but it's a great pop song heart.gif

I usually like a basic bop as much as the other person, but I just don't get any joy from this. She's done the uncomplicated, fun pop sound so much better many times.

I voted YES, because I do like it but it's not one I go back to! I absolutely stretched the life out of it when it came out and I don't think its recovered:')

"Like"? No.

I LOVE The Cure *.* I never had a Spotify account until The Cure was surprise-released and I wanted to play it on repeat, good memories wub.gif

I just checked Last.fm and was very surprised to see that I haven't scrobbled it since February 2018! ohmy.gif Possibly a mistake, who knows~ but I've rectified this by playing it now! Even though I hadn't played it for ages, I love it and I'll have to remember to go back to it more often. I find it to be catchy, uncomplicated and uplifting.

yes, love it.

One of my favourite Gaga songs - & shows she can effortlessly do modern, on-trend pop if she feels like it.

Posted by: Bjork 14th May 2020, 06:53 AM

nope, don't like it, too generic and trend-chasing

Posted by: Dexton 14th May 2020, 07:22 AM

Never been a huge fan but “Friday I’m In Love” is a classic basil.gif

but no I don’t like it, it was nice for her to get a proper hit after Joanne but i definitely didn’t help it’s chart success

Posted by: SKOB 14th May 2020, 09:12 AM

What's not to like? It's dedicated to her friend who lost the battle with cancer and she sings it beautifully!

I mean it's not groundbreakingly innovative but very good.

Posted by: Hauspital* 14th May 2020, 10:10 AM

Keep showing the love ya'll! cheer.gif

Posted by: dan-G 14th May 2020, 10:28 AM

definitely - it's my 7th most played track of hers, 45 plays which beats all the Joanne era combined.

Posted by: Jade 14th May 2020, 10:32 AM

I do like this but it's pretty inessential in amongst Gaga's discography!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 14th May 2020, 10:37 AM

I think it's pretty good! Though I do prefer Robert Smith's The Cure wink.gif

Posted by: Klumzeased* 14th May 2020, 10:48 AM

I do like it! It's certainly not top standard Gaga but I remember it compared to the rest of the UK chart at the time and it was definitely a step-up from its competition. As a standalone single I enjoy it for what it is! It shows that Gaga can do that type of music but chooses to do something else with her music!

I like it but it doesn't have enough about it for me to put it among her best. It will definitely be a pointless answer on Pointless in years to come if someone had Lady Gaga singles as a final category. laugh.gif

Posted by: Jαsє 14th May 2020, 06:18 PM

Those results heart.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 14th May 2020, 08:00 PM

I like it as a song, it's really cute. It's just the production on it is so basic and paper-thin, and like someone pointed out it sounds like Spotify filler that was so typical of that time - that's not helped it age very well.

Posted by: kye 14th May 2020, 09:03 PM

i love it! it’s in my top 10 gaga songs wub.gif

Posted by: Sour Candy 12th November 2022, 04:36 PM

This was among her most streamed only a few years ago but I guess the popularity has pretty much since then? Maybe it needed a video to stay in people's minds.

Posted by: dannjohn 13th November 2022, 12:18 AM

Never rlly got the point in it. I love the song but it felt like a label moment more than a Gaga moment

Very much this. Although I would like to see Gaga excel more in a more RnB role like this.

Posted by: Run_For_Cover 13th November 2022, 01:28 AM

I forget about this from time to time, but whenever I hear it I really like it.

Posted by: Envoirment 13th November 2022, 02:02 AM

I love it. It's actually my most played Gaga song on last.fm.

Posted by: HausofTove 13th November 2022, 07:21 PM

I still absolutely adore this! I don't listen to it as much because it doesn't feature on one of her albums but it's always an absolute GEM when I play it.
