Think it also says how unimportant the itunes chart is becoming. By the end of the year sales will be completely dwarfed by streaming sales.

It looks like Mike Posner could be a long running number 1 too. Next week seems dead too ohmy.gif

Posted by: Zárate Mar 25 2016, 09:20 AM

Sia is still #4 though, Lukas Graham edging it to #2 with two versions.

Really hoping 'Cheap Thrills' will bring Sia her first top-5 as a lead artist!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Mar 25 2016, 09:22 AM

Cheap Thrills is #3 on my iTunes!

Really hope that or work from home can make the top spot, by far the best tracks at the top of the charts right now wub.gif

Lukas Graham at 5 and 17 which gives a #2 combined

just to be precise, Sia is still number 4 when we combine her two version. You just forgot to mention wink.gif

1 Mike Posner 1.0000
2 5H 0.7600
3 Lukas Graham 0.7528
4 Sia 0.7076
5 Sigala 0.6387
6 Lush Life 0.6344
7 Blonde 0.5138

Lukas Graham lost 0.04 in the last update, a dramatic decrease compared to how it's been going recently

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall Mar 25 2016, 09:58 AM

Almost everything decreased, it's due to Mike Posner increasing rather than Lukas Graham actually declining in sales tongue.gif

Posted by: mdh Mar 25 2016, 10:06 AM

But 5th Harmony only lost 0.01, which is why I highlighted it as it means 5H have gained in the battle of a sort for 2nd tongue.gif

That's a shame really, the ever changing nature of the iTunes chart in it's heyday between 2010-2013 and the massive effect that it had on the Official chart was fascinating to see. When it comes to streaming you can't instantly see how the chart is being affected, you have to wait until the following day at the earliest to see how the chart has updated which is boring imo. Also it tends to be the same songs in almost the same positions every day.

Posted by: pippa Mar 25 2016, 12:34 PM

Streaming is now the main player of the charts. Streaming has made everything very boring. Downloads had a very short life, i wonder what will be the next development to take over from streaming.

111. Katy B & Chris Lorenzo - I Wanna Be
158. Katy B - Who Am I (feat. Craig David & Major Lazer)

I Wanna Be is SO good, hope it manages to go quite high even if it is just an instant grat. It's the best thing from this era aside from Turn the Music Louder. Sad to see Who Am I doing so badly. sad.gif

Posted by: danielG Mar 25 2016, 12:56 PM

It's definitely strange that 'Who Am I' has underperformed so much when Craig David can instantly get a new Blonde single into the official top 15. And it has Major Lazer on it too.

'Honey' was originally meant to be just a mixtape though so maybe the label aren't really pushing for a hit.

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall Mar 25 2016, 01:01 PM

It helps that the Blonde song has received instant support from Capital I guess, they seem to be tweeting about it non stop laugh.gif

They need to push "I Wanna Be" asap. It's my favourite so far and is amazing! Damn the production is just so great.

Shame to see "Who Am I" flopping.

'Who Am I' is a bore though. I agree with what you said in the other thread about this needing to kick in sooner, that's the only flaw in an otherwise sublime track.

To think I pretty much despised her when she first came on the scene, she has won me over.

Just heard that Meghan Trainor song... It sounds lifted straight out of 2001!

Interested to see if this becomes a trend, an early 00's revival would most be most welcome.

While I kind of agree, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel with the notion of Meghan Trainor being seen as a trendsetter.

re.gif 475. Hailee Steinfeld - Rock Bottom (feat. DNCE)

Maybe the DNCE feature could help Hailee get some radio support for this one, it's such a radio-friendly song but then we thought that about Love Myself and look what happened! This is already doing better in Australia than Love Myself ever did though so maybe there is hope.

I wouldnt call being currently #1 in Germany, Italy, Spain and France as part of the smaller European countries though. Its just huge in all of Europe, and has been for many months now.

Posted by: timjimlee Mar 26 2016, 01:42 PM

I was kinda hoping that "Pop Kids" by Pet Shop Boys would make some sort of impression on the Top 100, the CD was released last week but after a performance on The Graham Norton Show I expected it be a bit higher than 164 ! The EP is 138 in the Albums which again is quite low given the sluggish nature of the Album chart at the moment.

Smaller countries have a smaller fraction so he should genuinely be at #1.

I'd imagine it's more the song has been out for well over a year and even with a different version it's not that dissimilar to the original -plus the original is better and already has a top 30 peak

It's a shame they didn't release a different song or revisit Take Shelter instead

Not entirely sure how that's relevant? 'Faded' isn't a held-back release. unsure.gif

Wow at Jay Sean looking like making a semi-relevant comeback again. I thought he was really done after 'Hit The Lights' completely flopped. Although maybe this track is just doing well because the UK public are in a Sean Paul mood again with 'Cheap Thrills' also smashing at the moment laugh.gif

I can't see Alan Walker getting a lot further than he has already. I think the next #1 is most likely to be something that isn't in the chart at all yet and will climb out of nowhere to #1 over the course of a few weeks, as Lukas Graham and Mike Posner did. 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza' won't be going anywhere for a while yet.

All I can say is that the decline in post count in the UK Charts forum is more recognisable with the Lounge overtaking it more regularly in the weekly poster's charts!

(and I currently see only me and Iz and 11 guests reading it rn)

Well, we are getting less visitors but historically we always used to have our best days on Sundays when the chart was on (presumably as more people are home to browse an internet forum) and Fridays always used to be our least active day prior to the move.

So Buzzjack as a whole might not be the best indicator, there might just be considerably more people listening while driving or something. That's without seeing any statistics that may have been produced.

In terms of the 'general' public they haven't cared about the charts for some time laugh.gif I understand why some here are losing interest because of the much slower pace, but personally I like the way things currently are- maybe not the best if you're looking at it from an "excitement" perspective but it's nice to see tracks really *earn* a spot in the Top 10 eventually, after battling away from the bottom

Plus there is an unpredictability factor, like how right now we're not sure where the next #1 single will come from (Fifth Harmony or Sia could challenge but there's no guarantee they'll make it)

For me personally, I remember when this forum first started (and Coolclarity/Chart Forum Refugees), every Sunday used to be almost obligatory for me to listen to the Sunday Chart and then Dance Anthems on Radio 1. I cant even tell when was the last time I heard the countdown. Its been going downhill for a while now, and streaming was just the final nail in the coffin for me. I cant stand slow charts. I've lost interest in all the charts though, not just the UK, since nearly all of them use streaming these days and they're all slower than a turtle.

Posted by: Doctor Blind Mar 28 2016, 09:27 PM

The chartshow was an event in the nineties. The chart was interesting, the jingles were AMAZING, and Bruno was worth tuning in for his occasional gaffes like instead of saying hits saying 'top tits comin' at ya' or playing the completely uncensored version of Rage Against The Machine with Motherf***er screaming out across the nation followed by a calm Bruno simply stating 'Rage Against The Machine, Killing In The Name - thats a new entry at number 27.'

Greg and the same 25 songs slightly rearranged (that I hate listening to anyway) just doesn't have the same appeal.

Posted by: Mack Mar 28 2016, 10:27 PM

I doubt the chart show will ever be popular with it being on a Friday.

Posted by: Joe. Mar 28 2016, 10:32 PM

I really do remember when the chart was a massive event, families would actively have the radio on on Sunday nights to hear what's #1 and hear the entire countdown. The general public don't care about it anymore and chart positions are things people now find out about from second hand info, like in interviews or X factor intros.

But there will always be chart geeks, that keep the chart alive to a certain point. It's a shame he chart moved to a Friday for the forum as, understandably, the forum isn't going to get as much traffic on a Friday, which is a shame.

I agree with SevenSize(as I do with a lot of his posts) it is more exciting now as tracks have to earn their top positions instead of smashing in at no1 after 8 weeks of rotation and masses of pre orders. That was the reason the chart started going downhill in the late 90s as people realised it was all a fix and artists would wait until a free week to release to give them a chance at the top. Yes 12 NEs with 6 in the top 10 makes for interest to see where things land but the most popular tracks truely reach the top now.

I mean what did chart geeks do from 1952-95 when songs grew the chart? (And yes I know songs hang around longer now due to streaming)!

1952-95 was better though because there were more than 3 songs entering the top 40 every week, and they wouldn't hang around as long as they do now. The time of 6 new entries in the top 10 wasn't great for a meaningful chart either, though one good thing about it was there was so much music about. It was exciting there being so many great new singles coming out week after week. Now major label rosters are so much smaller.

Really hoping Nick Jonas and Tove Lo can climb today with Totd. Really loving it at the moment.

It will be interesting to see if Birdy or Zara manage to get a good impact from The Voice this week, I'm guessing it should provide Zara with one final week in the top five which is far more than what I could have imagined.

08. Tinie TempaH Feat Zara Larsson - Girls Like [Looks like this will miss the top five in the official charts, it would have been interesting to see had the video been released when it was three on iTunes what impact it could have made]
17. Meghan Trainor - NO
25. Jay Sean Feat Sean Paul - Make My Love Go
27. The Killers - Mr Brightside
33. Years & Years Feat Tove Lo - Desire
41. Fifth Harmony - The Life
56. Nick Jonas Feat Tove Lo - Close
85. Iggy Azeala - Team [Ouch, I'm guessing this will be a buzz single now]
90. Katy B & Chris Lorenzo - I Wanna Be
92. MNEK & Zara Larsson - Never Forget You [This is going to take a huge tumble in the official charts]

Posted by: ML Hammer95 Mar 29 2016, 08:52 AM

175. WSTRN - Come Down

Really getting into this now, shame it's not higher. Confident it'll rise again though! Also, 'Panda' is at #147. Keep an eye on this - starting to blow up in America and giving me slight Trap Queen vibes (obviously won't be as big as that though).

Sorry I meant to say if it HAD been a held-back release. Seems like the type of song that would got big preorders

Ahh I see, in that case you may well be right there. Does seem like the sort of song that would 'normally' be held back until it's nearly past the point of being relevant and then have a big week at #1 and fade quickly (pun semi-intended). Maybe the same for the likes of 99 Souls, although that's not a great example as that was held back for a very long time anyway, just still took a while to get going even after that laugh.gif

It's been hanging around for ages has it not? Why would it vault into the top 40 now?

Posted by: Rob S Mar 30 2016, 01:24 PM

Because the song is one of the theme tunes to Wrestlemania which is this Sunday.

It's not very good though so I'd prefer it didn't 'vault into the top 40' tbh.
2nd version of Cake By the Ocean now top 100 so top 15 seems comfortable for DNCE this week I'd have thought!

Expect the Vamps to make the Top 40. (Their last single made #12)
Galantis seem unlikely to be honest - at least in week 1.

They released a single after that (Rest Your Love I think) and that failed to chart.

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall Mar 31 2016, 05:52 PM

This is a brand new version of I Found a Girl though and has 2 CD singles and a DVD in a bundle on their website, which they usually do but Rest Your Love didn't get that for whatever reason, which was no doubt a huge hindrance to its chart impact. I think this could go top 40 but I'm really not sure.

Posted by: Doctor Blind Mar 31 2016, 05:53 PM

Assuming The Vamps have physicals to help them out (like Joseph was saying) then a Top 40 place is definitely possible

Galantis will have a much slower start, but 'No Money' sounds like it has some hit potential so it should get there eventually

The vamps strategy for this album has been awful. The management of the first album/ singles seemed to be really good but I just can't grasp there strategy this time around and it really isn't working. I can see I found a Girl flopping tbh.

I don't think it helps that radio don't seem to be here for them as much this time round really. The last album got a-list support from Radio 1 for every single bar Can We Dance but they've not made it any higher than b-list this time, and even then I'm sure Wake Up stalled on the c-list for a few weeks. Capital dropped Wake Up after about a week too drama.gif
