All 53 of last year's Multicharts have been compiled, so it's time to count down and find out Buzzjack's OFFICIAL favorite songs of the year!

This EOY is compiled in a points-based format based on the weekly Multichart: the #1 each week gets 75 points, the #75 gets 1 point, and so on. You can use that to have an idea of which songs will do well here. Any guesses, hopes, predictions?

#75 through #71 will be posted shortly! Until then, here's how the Year-End Multichart looked in 2022:

Maisie Peters kicks off the countdown with 'Body Better' which became her 3rd top 20 hit on the Multichart following 'Psycho' and 'Cate's Brother'. It was a bit of a slow burner, taking 11 weeks to peak at number 18. At 74, we have a slightly random collab between Purple Disco Machine, Duke Dumont and Nothing But Thieves. And there's a trio of number 10 hits in this section, including an unfriendly Sam Smith track, and Rita Ora's autoplay smash 'You Only Love Me'. Loreen's follow-up to 'Tattoo' was criticized for being too brief and failed to capitalize on the singer's Eurovision momentum, although it did manage to sneak a week in the Multichart top 10 after her UK tour.

Little Mix's Leigh-Anne had one of the highest debuts of the year with her first solo release 'Don't Say Love'; perhaps surprisingly it only peaked at #7 after such a strong start. Latto followed up 'Big Energy' with the nearly self-titled 'Lottery', ironically peaking at unlucky #13. kink.gif Holding true to David Kushner's own lyrics, his hit 'Daylight' was a song Buzzjack loved and hated at the same time, but the love was enough for #68 in the EOY. Two slow-burning singles round out this section, Issey Cross' Verve-sampling 'Bittersweet Goodbye' and 'Dancing's Done' by Ava Max, her first of two appearances this year.

Bilingual singer Selena Gomez made headlines for many short-lived social media breaks and naming a song 'Single Soon'. 90s group Aqua returned in the unlikely form of a 1:49-long pop rap track by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. The Album by the Jonas Brothers spawned the Multichart hit 'Waffle House' which according to them isn't about a restaurant but "coming together with the people you love and making your dreams come true". Romy of The xx is finally releasing solo music and has been rewarded with some lengthy chart runs on the Multichart, as 'The Sea' makes the EOY despite a #17 peak! Miley's 'River' spent most of its time in the shadow of 'Flowers', but manages a #6 peak and #59 here. Taylor Swift released more Taylor's Versions in 2023 and 'I Can See You' proved to be one of the highlights from Speak Now. The Killers took a very 80s turn with 'Your Side Of Town' and it worked, their first Multichart top 10 since 'The Man' in 2017! And David Guetta utterly ruined a Haddaway classic, but enough of you liked 'Baby Don't Hurt Me' for a #12 peak, better than it fared officially in the UK.

The Weeknd's deep cut 'Die For You' rose to prominence 7 years later thanks to TikTok and enlisting Ariana Grande for another remix. Charli XCX gave the Barbie soundtrack a 3rd top 10 hit with the 'Mickey'-interpolating 'Speed Drive'. Miley's 'Jaded' didn't reach the same heights as preceding singles 'Flowers' and 'River', but finishes ahead of 'River' here in spite of that, after charting for an impressive 21 weeks. Tove Lo, who had a strong showing on the previous EOY, has another appearance this time with the stone cold bop 'I like u' which got an unlikely remix from former Spicey Girl Melanie C. And perhaps most pleasingly, Buzzjack AOTY winner Caroline Polachek got her first top 10 hit with 'Welcome To My Island', "a song for the headless angels".

Great to see some Caroline Polachek appreciation wub.gif 'Welcome To My Island' really increased my excitement for this era.

'I like u' was a bop as ever from Tove and 'Die For You' grew on me a bit post-remix, albeit not as good as 'Save Your Tears'.

The UK and Buzzjack agree that Tyla's breakthrough single 'Water' is a hit! #4 peak on both charts, but #50 on our EOY while it doesn't make the UK's. Tiësto was on a streak of exactly one hit per year, this time his featured vocalist was Tate McRae. Unfortunately '10:35' failed to chart at #10 or #35. sleep.gif As for the second South African-born artist in this section (what are the odds!), Troye Sivan finally earned his first Multi #1! 'One Of Your Girls' was lucky to sneak that week at the top before a certain Dua Lipa took over. Becky Hill found a dance act she hadn't collborated with yet, and Chase & Status helped her make 'Disconnect' her biggest success in a while. Jessie Ware rounds out this section with the #4 'Pearls' but she'll have at least one more after this.

Troye Sivan gets this section started with his 2nd top 5 hit of the Something to Give Each Other era. It spent a month at the #5 position and samples 'Shooting Star' by Bag Raiders. Jessie Ware's 'Begin Again' became the 3rd top 10 hit from her That! Feels Good! album, made all the more impressive as it did this during the Eurovision chart invasion. Former The Voice contestant Libianca's 'People' became one of the biggest Afrobeats crossover hits of the year, while Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves' 'I Remember Everything' was one of 2023's biggest country crossover hits. Buzzjack fave Kylie's 'Hold On To Now' just misses out on making the EOY top 40. The synthpop tune didn't quite reach number one like 'Padam Padam' and 'Tension' but it did have a very strong top 20 chart run since the Tension album release.

The Multichart mirrored the Eurovision results for a week with Käärijä's 'Cha Cha Cha' at #2 behind Loreen. It benefits from charting several weeks before Eurovision as the song's hype started early - and deservedly so! Despite a late September release, Zara Larsson's 'On My Love' earns enough Multichart points to sneak into the top 40. Scottish DJ Hannah Laing had a hell of a breakthrough with 'Good Love', peaking at #8 here and one place higher in the official chart. We learned that Buzzjack still supports One Direction members not named Harry Styles, as Niall Horan returned with 'Heaven' and spent two months in the top 10. And at #36 is Taylor Swift's 'Lavender Haze', the first song to appear from Midnights but surely not the last thinking.gif

Olivia Rodrigo's pop-punk single 'get him back!' became her 6th Multichart top 10 hit, amounting an even longer chart run than that of previous chart topper 'bad idea right?'. At 34 we have Billie's 'What Was I Made For?' which may have been the only Barbie single to top the Multichart, but its relatively brief chart run puts it below 'Dance The Night' here. Bemoaners of Taylor overexposure won't be pleased to see 'Anti-Hero' make the EOY for a 2nd year in a row. Chart company take piss stick chart sun don’t shine. Kings of generic dance Nathan Dawe and Joel Corry collided via telephone on top 5 hit '0800 HEAVEN'. And Coi Leray's Grandmaster Flash-sampling 'Players' is the highest song in the countdown that didn't peak in the top 10 with an unlucky 3 non-consecutive weeks at 11. Dedicated to women being "players", the track even found itself on the 6 Music playlist at one point.

'Karma', Taylor's third single from Midnights, matched the #4 peak of 'Lavender Haze'. The Ice Spice feature had mixed reactions, but it was probably worth it just for "facts". The highest K-Pop entry goes not to BLACKPINK, BTS or any of its members, but to FIFTY FIFTY with 'Cupid', possibly the only girl group hit of the year too! From "facts" to "rinky dink", we have The Weeknd and friends covering 'I Don't Wanna Know' and getting a solid hit, although not quite as big on the Multichart. Calvin & Sam almost had a second Multi #1 together, after 'Promises' five years ago, but 'Desire' fell just one place short. Last but not least, 'DNA (Loving You)' has had a great run here so far and lands at #26 on the EOY.

Norway's Alessandra is the 3rd highest Eurovision artist in the countdown with the psytrance-esque 'Queen of Kings'. Similar to 'Cha Cha Cha', the song's Multichart peak also mirrored its Eurovision final result. Kenya Grace blew up out of nowhere with her self-produced and self-written, dreamy slice of D&B 'Strangers' which was held off the top spot by Kylie's 'Tension' for 2 weeks. Doja Cat managed a top 3 smash from her "less commercial" Scarlet album with 'Paint The Town Red'. In the lyrics, the rapper dismisses her critics and asserts her own identity following arguments with fans on social media. Tate McRae topped the Multichart for the first time by copycatting Nelly Furtado circa 2006 with 'greedy' which has spent a ridiculous 18 weeks (and counting) in the top 10. Falling just shy of the EOY top 20 is Mimi Webb's 'Red Flags' which became the nasal voiced singer's biggest hit here to-date.

It was a year of legends returning to the charts, including Shania Twain who featured on Anne-Marie's 'UNHEALTHY', and now has her first ever appearance on a Multichart EOY! (I assume, without going through old threads laugh.gif) 'bad idea right?', my personal fave from GUTS, had three weeks at #1, just like 'Vampire' before it, but a relatively short run by Olivia's standards, landing it at #19 here. PinkPantheress finally had the breakthrough she deserves, with help from Ice Spice, as 'Boy's a liar Pt. 2' peaked at #3 for two weeks. SZA smashed it with 'Kill Bill', although also not getting higher than #3 here, it's firmly her biggest hit to date but her only EOY appearance this year. Mae Muller rounds us out with her Eurovision entry 'I Wrote A Song', with 13 weeks in the top 10 and a #2 peak. Obviously a bit better than it fared at Eurovision itself!

Nobody had the polarizing D-Block Europe getting a Multichart smash on their bingo card, but thanks to RAYE and an on-trend TikTok beat 'Prada' became just that. Thankfully, RAYE's fantastic solo breakthrough 'Escapism.' finishes just ahead of it. The captivating and refreshing hit became her first-ever Multichart number one as a lead artist; she previously topped the chart as a feature on 'You Don't Know Me' by Jax Jones in 2017.

Believe it or not, Kylie's Tension is her first album to spawn 2 Multichart number ones with the title track spending a month at the top, not long after an 8-week "Padamic". Many bemoaned how Switch Disco's Love Island staple 'REACT' ruined a Robert Miles classic, but it seems to have a silent bunch of fans that kept it in the Multichart for an impressive 25 weeks. P!nk continued to remain relevant with 'TRUSTFALL' which got stuck behind Miley's 'Flowers' for 4 consecutive weeks.

Troye took a pretty long break between music releases, but it was worth the wait as lead single 'Rush' became one of the summer's anthems (or perhaps a winter anthem in his home country kink.gif), with a #4 peak, 10 weeks in the top 10, and it places at #10 in the EOY! All richly deserved for what will hopefully be a defining song of his career.

Peggy Gou returned to music in a massive way with the infectious '(It Goes Like) Nanana' becoming her mainstream breakthrough and one of the defining songs of the summer. Like Eliza Rose before her, Peggy's chart success was an important and inspiring moment for female DJs and minorities in the underground dance scene. The song snuck a week at #1 on our Multichart in between the reigns of 'Padam Padam' and 'vampire'. Peggy had only charted once before with 2021's 'I Go' which peaked at #56.

It spent 3 weeks at #1 on the Multichart and an impressive 15 weeks in the top 10. It dropped quickly after that, meaning all but 6 of its chart weeks were in the top 10!

Zara may have joined the 80s synthpop trend about 3 years late but that didn't stop the slayage of 'Can't Tame Her' on the Multichart last year. The lead single from her VENUS album may have stalled at 25 on the UK charts, but it came close to topping our chart, being held off the top spot by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's 'Miracle' for 2 weeks. This effervescent tune even re-entered the most recent Multichart for an impressive 28th week.

Dua Lipa got the whole world hyped for the Barbie movie with 'Dance The Night' being the lead single of the star-studded soundtrack. Buzzjack, already thirsting for a new Dua era, took to it right away as it debuted top 10 and peaked at #2, behind the juggernaut 'Padam Padam'. In the UK it had a more gradual climb, but the film release was perfectly timed to give it a boost to #1, Dua's 4th chart-topper to date. There's something about the number 4, as it also spent several weeks at #4 on the Multichart and lands at #4 on the EOY!

The formerly rumoured Eurovision entry by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding never got rocked by Brer, and finishes in the bronze position here. The trance pop track with its neat breakbeat outro managed 7 weeks at the top. It was Calvin's first Multichart number one since 'Promises' in 2018, and Ellie's first since 'On My Mind' in 2015.

I didn't have 'Cruel Summer' on my radar to be anywhere near that high ohmy.gif makes sense though!

Think I know what's #1 (yay!) but also, if the RotD auto-qualifiers for 2023 are taken from the top 35 songs here which weren't AQs in previous years, then with 'Cruel Summer', 'Anti-Hero' and 'Escapism.' taken out, 'Good Love' at #38 will have just made it in cheer.gif happy to have had a hand in that!

'Tattoo' became Loreen's 2nd Multichart number one following 'Euphoria' many years ago. The song spent an insane 19 weeks in the top 10. Typical LorQueen behaviour I fear. Ah that’s a shame. Would definitely have been interesting to compare as this method rewards longevity and kind of nullifies songs with particularly high points weeks. Not that it matters too much… I much preferred Tattoo to Euphoria so am reasonably happy to see Loreen take the win this year and that was quite a stellar run regardless happy.gif
