Lithuania are giving us another lengthy selection courtesy of a return for Eurovizijos, although they have seemingly made it only 8 weeks long for 2017 rather than 10 weeks as it was last year. Then again, we thought this last year until it was extended due to high viewing figures in Lithuania. Nevertheless, 2016's competition was by far the strongest Lithuania ever put together with strong songs from Erica Jennings, Ruta, Aiste and of course Donny Montell which gave them their best quality entry in HISTORY and got a deserved top 10 in Stockholm.
The selection begins at the beginning of January:
https://escxtra.com/2016/10/11/lithuania-announces-selection-details-for-2017/
Initial rumours stated that Donny may be considering another comeback to the selection, vying to continue to do so until he wins Eurovision for Lithuania. He's gone from 14th to 9th so far, so perhaps he'll manage it after a couple more attempts? Indeed, Donny is Lithuania's biggest popstar and would surely be selected yet again if he did take part in Eurovizijos 2017 - judging by the quality of his most recent album I'd certainly be up for it. I think Lithuania could make a niche for themselves as "little Sweden".
Aminata is back in the Eurovision family, this time she's gone next door and wrote a song for a Lithuanian act. She's wrote a song for Aiste from this year's selection so that should be an immediate contender! *.*
The names and writers of all the songs have been put up http://www.lrt.lt/projektai/eurovizija/dainos#skip for your reading pleasure. Aminata is down as a songwriter for Aiste from last year as rumored and Vilija from 2014 is competing again. That's about it on first scan as famous names goes but Ryan can probably identify a good 50% of them.
The actual songs are starting to filter out and, to my shock and amazement, there is an actually really good song out there (written by Swedes, obviously).
Not sure if I'm ready for Lithuania potentially having a run of three good songs in a row!
Heard this a few days ago and it really is sensational by Lithuania's standards. I'd go as far as saying that it is the most Eurovision winner-sounding song out of all the favourites I've heard from the selections so far (Finland, Estonia, Hungary, Switzerland, Lithuania, Georgia, Belarus, Malta and maybe more).
That said, I think the biggest fanbase always tends to prevail in Lithuania when there is a big artist in the selection and this is of course Sasha Song in this case. Thankfully his song is much better than I expected, he's jumped on the tropical bandwagon but it's a nice bop and would still be above anything Lithuania offered pre-2015. Of course the jury could sink him, but I'm not sure the jury would sink him enough to get Greta through in place of him.
Basically Sasha is the Donny of 2017 (comeback male with much improved song on their original Eurovision entry), Greta will probably be the Erica (fan favourite female) and then Aiste can be Aiste again.
Greta came first in the jury vote of her heat which was recorded tonight and she got the pimp slot! LRT know they have something here, let's hope the televoters join the train when they vote on Saturday!
Lithuania may be carrying on their annual "make it up as we go along" reputation as despite initially issuing a denial it is rumoured that negotiations are ongoing between LRT and Donny Montell's team regarding letting Donny take part with his brand new single which was released today. Donny has recently reconfirmed that he wants to return to Eurovision again as he believes he can win and is improving his position each time.
I don't *think* it will happen but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised to see him shoe-horned into heat 4 next week.
That's a brilliant song but I'm unsure if Donny would be able to improve on 9th with it, especially so soon after last year and with 'I've Been Waiting For This Night' being a lot more Eurovision friendly.
Great song but it doesn't very Eurovision
Greta won her heat this evening, 1st with juries and 2nd in the televote! That said her vocals and stage presence need a lot of work to make her become a winner.
Oh my GOD - this (which won the televote last night of whatever heat out of the SEVENTEEN THEY HOLD FOR THIS every year) has just been brought to my attention and I am HEAD OVER HEELS! *o*
I AM FRIGHTEN
OH MY LITERAL JEZUS CHRISTO
I need it to win so badly.
Omg call the whole thing off now *.*
What a racket, at least choose something which has a bit of humour in it if we're ignoring pop perfection!!11
And appreciate our Greta of course
I Love My Phone is a BOP AND A HALF. Completely ridiculous but the production is actually really good!
I do like Greta (and a lot of this year's selection actually - add in Sasha Son and I Love My Phone and you have a bizarrely high quality selection from the country that had that laughable A Million Voices rewrite genuinely contending most of the weeks last year), but Eurovision really is ALL THE POORER without at least one entry of LOLITA'S ILK anymore
Those two are also bops - Greta in particular surely would be a smash. This years If Love Was A Criminal perhaps?
I agree though, Get Frighten is just the sort of bizarre thing I miss in Eurovision and really want. Sure, I'd rather have it from some random country like Montengro and it is a dilemma to have that or a brilliant pop song like Like I Love You, but it's just so bonkers that I can't help but love it
Now they only need to teach Greta to hold a note and it would be a superb entry.
Bloody hell at 'Get Frighten' and 'I Love My Phone' *.* I clearly need to start following the Lithuanian process more carefully!
'Like I Love You' is a great song, although it would be hard to recreate the 'l-l-l-like like like' parts of the backing track live without it sounding a total mess.
I Love My Phone is so ridiculous That production IS good though, could have been used on a better song I feel (well it already was on Perfect Strangers I suppose...)
Lithuania are going for three fab entries in a row this year, they are on quite the run!
I've always thought Attention from 2014 was a bit of a vibe.
*runs for the hills*
I thought it was good for Lithuania at the time but it got so irritating so quickly! Talking of Vilija, she was in yesterday's heat as well but failed to make the top 6 to qualify for the next round.
ny2 the international juries will dispose of that mess once they come in in a few weeks time! (I hope)
Attention was UTTERLY FOUL! If I wanted to be shouted at for three minutes over a tuneless electro racket I'd BREAK INTO A POWER PLANT
Weak semifinal 3, especially for Lithuanian pre-selection. Only 1 great song.
Very good :
1. Milda Martinkenaite & Saulene Chlevickaite - Paperheart
Not bad :
2. Streles - bast*rd
3. Grazvydas - Paint The Sky Blue
4. Marius Petrauskas - She's My Universe
Weak :
5. Erika Astrauskaite - No More
6. HIT - I Wanna Love You Tonight
7. Vilija Mataciunaite - I See The Lights
8. Virgis Valuntonis - Victorious
9. Dovydas Petrosius - Love is Free
Very bad :
10. Greta Zazza - Like I Love You
11. Vidas Bareikis & Ieva Zasimauskaite - I Love My Phone
12. Fusedmarc - Rain of Revolution
Shame :
13. Lolita Zero - Get Frighten
Attention was fantastic!
'I'm gonna make make you, make you fall, down d-d-down down on your knees' <3
I loved This Time too.
Ieva Zasimauskaite, of 'I Love My Phone' fame had a song in Heat 2 which has also advanced to the next round!
My god this selection is giving us some gems! I See the Lights is fantastic. It's obvious that it didn't advance because it's quite out there but, damn, it's fabulous!
Here's Aminata's entry into this selection, it got the top points from the jury in heat 4 and the televoting will happen for it on Saturday:
She's done it again!
The production is so intricate and great but this voice doesn't suit the song at all.
HOLD THE PHONE - Lithuania has DONE IT AGAIN *.* These pouting lovelies (who I'm certain were formed as the vampy Aryan answer to Afro-Dite) came second on the televote tonight with this brave and imaginative response to the injustices of the EU's common fisheries policy.
Once more - WTF has Lithuania been hiding all of this BRILLIANTLY PRODUCED NONSENSE ALL THESE YEARS?!
When did Lithuania suddenly get good at this? The Aminata-penned one is, of course, brilliant as per. Agreed the vocalist isn't working it.
Lolita Zero WON the first of the Lithuanian semis.
Ain't nothing stopping us! *.*
The international jury didn't turn up for this round after all so I'm hoping they will still sink Get Frighten when they do arrive. This was by far the weakest "semi" (I think we're optimistic to call it a semi-final already) with Paula the only other "big contender" in it. Mia, Greta, Aiste, Sasha all line up next week!
Lithuania REALLY wants to be the valuable part of EU with Lolita Zero as the contender.
Damn, why it's such an earworm?
'I Love My Phone' is OUT so we now all need to rally behind GET FRIGHTEN
DID FISHDANCE MAKE IT THROUGH
It did!
STILL TEAM GRETA or Aiste if Greta can't get there.
OMG at Fisherman coming SECOND on the televote
Crying for I Love My Phone 😭😩
Fisherman is a certain AlexRange all time fave and I kinda love it *.*
Definitely here for Greta or Lolita Zero to win. Why, of all countries, does Lithuania have such a long winded selection process?
Next round is recording tonight, Lolita is in the same heat as Greta, Aiste, Sasha Song and Ieva. Now the quality is going up and up, Lolita has thankfully come last with the Lithuanian jury! International jury is in this round though so could shake things up. Aiste got 12 again, Greta 10.
Screaming at this from last weekend, it's a great performance and Aiste is quite the performer. The completely unrehearsed last 30 seconds are crazy! To be honest, if this goes to Kyiv I want them to scrap 20 seconds from the long final chorus so we can squeeze in this insane new bit.
And this will be going to Kyiv unless the international jury aren't fans when they join the decision making and support her nearest challengers which seems to be Greta and potentially Paula (which is another tropical pop bop similar to Greta's)
That performance is very striking in its subtle simplicity, that would be a brilliant entry! It's like a banger version of Love Injected *.*
If you told me two years ago that I'd be fired up for Lithuania NF, I would've laughed and laughed...
Get Frighten is officially out and the newly introduced international jury seems to be supporting Sasha of all people, it throws the competition a bit more wide open again now.
The revamp of I Love My Phone that got it eliminated the other week has finally been uploaded:
They must have been told to take out that instrumental that was identical to Perfect Strangers, but this new instrumental wasn't the WISEST choice
omg its AWFUL
Fisherman is now out too loves, and Mia is the first of the big names to fall.
HORRIFIED
So the pre-recording of the "all eight songs left in perform again only to eliminate two of them" semi final has happened. The good news is that even with the biggest Aiste dragger on the panel she still managed 2nd on the combined jury vote. The bad news is that they gave the 12 to this song that won the televote in the other semi.
pls no
I think she was just 2nd in the Lithuanian jury vote, the first time she hasn't topped that one. The international jury usually vote via Skype which isn't revealed until Saturday. I could be wrong though! Taking this week's Lithuanian jury scores into account and then looking back in the past for international jury and televote scores, I expect the following to potentially play out:
SONG // (LT JURY PTS+INT JURY PTS=OVERALL PTS) JURY PTS + TELEVOTE PTS = TOTAL PTS
Aistė Pilvelytė - I'm Like a Wolf // (10+5=15) 10 + 12 = 22
Fusedmarc - Rain of Revolution // (12+3=15) 10 + 10 = 20
Gabrielius Vagelis - Feel Myself Free // (5+10=15) 10 + 6 = 16
Sasha Song - Never Felt Like This Before // (6+12=18) 12 + 3 = 15
Greta Zazza - Like I Love You // (7+7=14) 7 + 7 = 14
Paula - Let U Go // (4+8=12) 6 + 8 = 14
Eliminated:
Kotryna Juodzevičiūtė - Love Shadow // (8+6=14) 7 + 5 = 12
Ieva Zasimauskaitė - You Saved Me // (3+4=7) 5 + 4 = 9
Which would lead to a final like this assuming the juries and televoters keep the same tastes (unlikely in Lithuania):
Fusedmarc - Rain of Revolution // (12+5=17) 10 + 10 = 20
Aistė Pilvelytė - I'm Like a Wolf // (10+6=16) 8 + 12 = 20
Sasha Song - Never Felt Like This Before // (7+12=19) 12 + 5 = 17
Gabrielius Vagelis - Feel Myself Free // (6+10=16) 8 + 6 = 14
Greta Zazza - Like I Love You // (8+7=15) 7 + 7 = 14
Paula - Let U Go // (5+8=13) 6 + 8 = 14
Hmm potentially worrying I know. It looks like it will all hinge on who the Lithuanian jury give their 12 to next week. Jury takes precedence in Lithuania so televoters wouldn't lift Aiste above in a tie.
Sasha's out, the international jurors weren't fans this time. Fusedmarc absolutely dominated. Aiste was hated by international jurors, Paula hated by Lithuanian jurors and the other three just middled in everything.
It'd be a big shame if Lithuania ruined their chance of another good entry, they've got a really decent final. But Fusedmarc isn't the option they need.
EMERGENCY: LITHUANIA IS GIVING EUROPE ONE LAST CHANCE TO GET FRIGHTEN WITH AN ONLINE SECOND CHANCE VOTE AND SHE'S STORMING IT *.*

Ryan AGOG
*.*
Come on Lithuania, let's make it 3 out of 3 for brilliant Baltic entries this year *.*
If Lithuania sent "Like I Love You" or "Like A Wolf", that would literally make Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia my top three (as it stands currently anyway). Sod it, I'd even be on board with "Get Frighten" winning it.
I am really willing it to be I'm Like A Wolf, I've really taken to that. I'd be good with Get Frighten or Like I Love You too, I think any of those 3 would probably be at least 3rd in my ranking, I'm Like A Wolf would probably be first actually! What a turnaround for Lithuania (provided any of these 3 actually win)
AIN'T NOTHING STOPPING US (not even the convoluted Lithuanian selection format) *.*
LRT desperate for that televoting money!
The juries will never let Lolita win I presume, but his presence could be useful if he can get in between Aiste and Fusedmarc in the televote. That would counteract another Fusedmarc jury win. I remain optimistic!
http://www.lrt.lt/naujienos/eurovizija/31/165684/i_eurovizijos_atranka_grizta_lolita_zero
!!! YAASS
So now rumors are abounding that Lithuania are changing up the format of the final in another completely random way for....no immediately apparent reason. A part of me is hoping they switch it to 100% televoting so that Get Frighten can snatch it.
Oh I DO HOPE SO *.*
That would be TOO MUCH and it MUST HAPPEN
Mirela died so LOLITA COULD LIVE *.*
The voting twist is that each artist gets to choose which 7 jurors of the 12 they want to count for them. Sounds good for Aiste as she will be able to get rid of her hater (and the international jury haters too)
Apparently they actually just pick them out of a hat so it's more like a game show of luck now
Oh Lithuania, never change!
What the fuck?!
I love it!
Fusedmarc are the winners! Aiste 2nd, Lolita 4th </3
This wasn't part of the plan?! BAH!
there's too much screamin in the song, but it actually can touch my heart strings soon.
had mixed feelings about Lolita Zero missed the party
Official preview video:
Had I'm Like a Wolf made it, Lithuania would've been getting my 12.
Oh well, this ain't bad, nice 90s funk vibe. Does need some work though.
I could've forgiven them for not choosing "Get Frighten" if it was in favour of something up to the standard of last year, but meh at this.
I'm going to be careful, as I've said this about Lithuanian entries before and later retracted them as they turn out to have no legs, but I think I really like this?
There's something nicely familiar about the melody of the chorus, I can't quite put my finger on it but I really like it. Even though the two songs are completely different, for some reason when I listen to this I think of Josh Osho's 'Redemption Days'. There's something very uplifting and British sounding about it, something I loved 'Redemption Days' for and is the song I associate with London 2012 which is of course one of the most positive events in our lifetimes.
Yes I'd have loved Greta, Aiste and Paula all more than this but it's different and it's uplifting and it's a good entry. Apparently Viktorija (the lead singer) can't speak either Lithuanian or English, only Russian so that has caused a little bit of controversy amongst Lithuanians!
