Oooh, that's too bad for France. I'm really hoping that Russia will end up in the first half too though, that'll make things interesting (both in terms of the contest appearing more 'open' and seeing how they play with the order).

I know we've had first half winners the last couple of years but that sucks. Wasn't expecting both Italy and France to draw first half.

If you ask me, I think this 1st Half/2nd Half thing is all a bit of silly bother. If they're going to have producer decided running order then they should just decide the whole thing (2015 was enough of a terrible weighting to put me off this halfway random thing forever!).

Yay! Good news for Joe and Jake, stands slightly less chance of being completely forgotten now.

Well, it IS. It's hardly gonna set the scoreboard alight, anything that might potentially keep it in people's minds to boost it up a place or hard is a bonus!

The biggest loser from that draw is Italy. France I think will either have slot 11, 12 or 13 on lock and Germany was a non-starter anyway (calling it now, they've got the death slot).
The UK tends to do slightly better with a 2nd half draw, going by recent years anyway, so that's a little promising for us. 2015 - 1st half - 24th 2014 - 2nd half - 17th 2013 - 2nd half - 19th 2012 - 1st half - 25th 2011 - 2nd half - 11th 2010 - 1st half - 25th 2009 - 2nd half - 5th |

UK entries of those years were dead on arrival and terminal in every way imaginable so I don't think the draw had much of a difference. It was a nice coincidence though.

That's France's already slimming chances just about completely gone now unfortunately, sad for Italy too who had picked up momentum in the last couple of days. I don't know why they don't just automatically give Spain a good draw every year, they always seem to get amazing draws!
Glad for the UK, this type of "disposable" pop song should benefit from a later draw and they deserve it after their surprisingly good rehearsals. Germany will probably be last of the big 5 now although I doubt they'll put Germany on 2nd considering they are the most important broadcaster in the competition and really care too. It's not like France in past years who couldn't care less. If you ask me, I think this 1st Half/2nd Half thing is all a bit of silly bother. If they're going to have producer decided running order then they should just decide the whole thing (2015 was enough of a terrible weighting to put me off this halfway random thing forever!). No no no that'd be horrible! Every single year you'd end up with a run of favourites in the last 10 of the draw and it completes removes an aspect of unpredictability that the contest has. And if the producers did sabotage one of the favourites by putting them earlier there'd be outrage and rightly so. I think what we have now is the right mix of manipulation and fairness. |

Yeah, completely picking it from scratch wouldn't be something I'm in favour of either, in agreement with Ryan on the way they do it now. Just because last year didn't work out doesn't mean it's a bad idea on the whole.

Because it really helped Bonnie and Molly Grasping at straws :') no, 18th place is so much better than 21st!!!1 I'll take any boost we can get, this is surely more likely to appeal to people than Believe In Me, and the rehearsals suggest that they're going to command the stage and deliver the song far better than Molly did. I'll always be happy if the UK have a good draw when we send one of our rare non-crap entries, and if we trail in 24th again then so be it but it would be pretty undeserved this time. ----------- As for the others, Germany were surely coming bottom three anyway so no sad loss, though I'd have liked to have seen France and Italy a little later. Hope Amir is put on towards the end of the first half. |

I think Amir is very likely to get 11th to 13th, especially as SVT loved him in their Eurovision preview shows. If Russia gets first half then that'd open it back up again but if they get second half then unless there's a breakthrough performance in the semi-finals I think Sergey has it in the bag. I know Ukraine are supposedly contenders but I just can't see 1944 as a winning song, top 5 certainly but too divisive to win.

Since 2000 in reverse order:
Mans - 10 Conchita - 11 Emmelie - 18 Loreen - 17 Ell & Nikki - 19 Lena - 22 Alexander - 20 Dima - 24 Marija - 17 Lordi - 17 Helena - 19 Ruslana - 10 Sertab - 04 Marie N - 23 Tanel & Dave - 20 Olsen Brothers - 14 It's all about context though really, quite a few of these late draws would've won from anywhere you would think for example Loreen, Alexander, Lordi and more. |

Also worth noting that the winners from nearer the start all had one of, if not the most memorable staging/acts of the whole show (like, Conchita was the one song in 2014 that I don't think running order mattered at all for) so unless somebody's got a performance like that and they draw first half, chances are they aren't winning.
