BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Longest Gap Between Top 10 Hits

Paul McCartney has his first top ten hit since 1989 with Ferry Cross The Mersey, I was wondering is this a record, anyone know?

I'd be surprised if it was a record, 26 years isn't *that* long. Off the top of my head, I can think of Leo Sayer who went 24 years between Top 10 hits, thanks to Meck featuring him on his #1 hit 'Thunder In My Heart' in 2006. So I'm sure there must be some examples longer than that.

Cher : 1st Top 10 in 1965, and the most recent in 2001 (36 years)
Louis Armstrong : 1st Top 10 in 1952, and the most recent in 1994 (42 years)

Cher doesn't qualify, I think what fiesta was asking is the longest gap between Top 10 hits, she's had plenty of other Top 10 hits between 1965 and 2001. Same with Louis Armstrong, however there are 26 years between his Top 10 hits in 1968 and 1994 so he's tied with Paul McCartney. I'm sure there must be someone with a longer span between Top 10 hits though.

Perez 'Prez' Prado: 'Patricia' was a top 10 hit in summer 1958. His next top 10 hit (his next chart entry in fact) was 'Guaglione' in May 1995, a gap of almost 37 years.

Tony Christie - 28 years (I Did What I Did For Maria 1971 to Walk Like A Panther 1999) or else 34 years solo (Amarillo 2005), not to mention the 34 year-wait for a record to first chart and hit number one.

Prob some others...
