BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ What Kind Of Fool APPRECIATION

Her best PWL single ever? Possibly.

Her last original song released on PWL, served as the lead single from her GH, and got to #14. Kylie has gone on record as saying she isn't fond of it, it's never been performed live on any of her tours, but was featured in some medleys.

Dicuss.

My best friend Conor adores this along with 'Word Is Out' and thinks they are some of her finest PWL moments.
I do love it too and love the No/Tech No Logical Remixes.

She did perform some of it in the request section of 'KMO' Tour in Belfast to my delight smile.gif

I really like what kind of fool. Shame the remixes never made the new box sets.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 5th September 2015, 10:42 AM

It is INCREDIBLE. I'd say it is probably her best PWL single, though Turn It Into Love and Got To Be Certain give it a very strong run for its money. I know I've mentioned it about 50 times in here of late, but it just exudes joy and fun and the hooks are big enough to snag a BLUE WHALE.

I do have a bit of a soft spot for it, but I always overlook it and forget about it among her discography. Gloriously camp though!

Don't love but don't hate
Give Me Just A Little More Time
It's No Secret
I Should Be So Lucky

Ive always felt the "lets gets to it" era was very underrated overall

I really like What Kind of Fool, it would be middle of the road in the rankings of my pwl singles.

Lets Get To It is my least remembered of the PWL work.
The only change of opinion i would have had relating to the era is Word Is Out.
Initially a terribly disappointing lead single but with time i appreciate and enjoy the song.
If You Were With Me Now i have always and still enjoy.
Give Me Just A Little More Time, pleasant as it is, i don't listen to it regularly.
Finer Feelings, i go through different motions with this song, sometimes i totally skip it and other times i let it play.

What Kind of Fool was a step back in time with its sound and direction but i would think PWL wanted it that way.
I do prefer What Kind of Fool to all the Lets Get To It singles.

Posted by: Monzo 11th June 2019, 05:17 PM

I loved WKOF back then, but it's not one of her PWL songs I still listen to a lot.

LGTI was kind of a strange album, at least when it comes to the singles. They were all different, but I think singles 2 & 3 were successful tries to save this era and wouldn't have released if WIO was a strong lead single. If WIO had worked, I guess Too Much Of A Good Thing and Right Here Right Now could have been follow-ups, Finer Feelings maybe, too.

I love let’s get to it and what kind of fool, the last couple of years of PWL are so under appreciated for me especially what kind of fool, finer feels and if you were with me now

I agree with the exception of Finer Feelings. Kylie has acknowledged the song alot over the years hence showing its a song she likes.
If You Were With Me Now is ignored and What Kind Of Fool only gets a very small acknowledgement.
I would doubt Kylie had great love for What Kind Of Fool as it was everything she was trying to move away from.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 11th June 2019, 06:38 PM

I always hear this if I go to a Kylie themed night and go wild for it, it's a good sing-a-long.

Posted by: ___∆___ 11th June 2019, 08:50 PM

At the time I LOVED this - as a teen pop loving fan the LGTI era was all over the place for me so was totally there for the pure pop of this, I’m sure Kylie hated it but probably didn’t care too much as she knew her PWL days would soon be over.

Posted by: pippa 11th June 2019, 09:19 PM

For Kylie it fulfilled the contract.
At the time i loved it as it was the return of fun Kylie after Lets Get To It which was darker in sound and didn't offer the fun pop element.
Where In The World was another good but very underrated track from that time.
Kylie leaving PWL was seen as a big risk at that time and i believe some of her fans were worried.
Proved to be a very lucrative long term move.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 12th June 2019, 08:58 AM

I would have preferred where in the world as a single at the time to celebration, I still like that song but celebration is a better tour song.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 12th June 2019, 09:32 AM

'Celebration' just shouldn't have happened. puke.gif

I can't believe it's been included on her new GH.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 12th June 2019, 09:48 AM

It should be a tour only song as she does it well on tour but other songs should have it made on the greatest hits ahead of it as I never hear of any fans of it as studio version or single.

Posted by: pippa 12th June 2019, 02:02 PM

Where in the World is a better addition to the original Greatest Hits than NYC is to the upcoming Greatest Hits.
With added songs on Greatest Hits releases, Ultimate Kylie provided the best in delivering both I Believe In You and Giving You Up.

Agree with this - PWL were just chasing the final £££ from Kylie and trying to get a big hit - I’m sure the fact that GMJALMT was the highest charting single from LGTI probably led them to believe ‘Celebration’ would perform the same. I don’t hate the song but wouldn’t seek it out specifically either.

Posted by: pippa 12th June 2019, 08:56 PM

I dont hate Celebration either.
I think there was a pun to the choice as it was a celebration of Kylie and PWL having worked good together and this was a celebration of that time (Greatest Hits)

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 12th June 2019, 10:38 PM

I like celebration live but the studio version is flat. I found it it a disappointing final pwl single as it felt rushed and a just cheap cover version.

Posted by: ___∆___ 13th June 2019, 07:44 PM

Even though it’s not a fan favourite and hasn’t aged well I’m surprised ‘Celebration’ didn’t do better.

It’s a well known song and also total pop - the GH reached #1 so there was still decent interest in Kylie after the underperformance of LGTI, also Kylie promoted ‘Celebration’ decently (She performed it on the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party - The teen Brit Awards of it’s day) so the fact it only just scraped Top 20 is surprising.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 14th June 2019, 12:53 AM

At the time I thought it would do well but can see why it didnt.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 14th June 2019, 09:42 AM

I think it got what it deserved.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 14th June 2019, 10:00 AM

Has it done much on streaming?

Not in her Top 100 on Spotify so largely forgotten by the fans and GP.

Posted by: pippa 14th June 2019, 01:13 PM

The song is not popular on any avenue.
I sometimes query how much the record companies or artists know how fans feel about particular songs.
If this was taken into consideration Celebration would not be making it onto Greatest Hits releases by Kylie.
Financially i would think it would be better to have a Kylie original on the album ahead of a cover version too.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 14th June 2019, 08:50 PM

It sold better than a good few of her singles to be fair to it.
