Dexton's 2017 End Of Year Countdown

Sort of.

As some people may know my chart didn't really start until May. I had a couple of false starts but the chart beginning Tuesday 16 May 2017 is the earliest 'canon' Dexton's chart. Beginning as a simple Top 20, my chart didn't evolve to include #21-#40 until Christmas. The first chart is below, marking the first appearance of many for artists such as Dua Lipa, Imagine Dragons, Clean Bandit, Paramore, French Montana, Calvin Harris, and Khalid. Unfortunately for Daddy Yankee, Wale, Wizkid, Jon Bellion, Rag'n'Bone Man, Zebra Katz, Mura Masa, Becky Hill, Harry Styles, Chance The Rapper, Lil Wayne, Flume, Kučka, and Zara Larsson this would be their only chart appearance to date!

ne.gif 01 Luis Fonsi ft Daddy Yankee Despacito  [Remix - ft Justin Bieber]
ne.gif 02 OneRepublic No Vacancy
ne.gif 03 Wale ft Major Lazer, Dua Lipa, & Wizkid My Love
ne.gif 04 Jon Bellion Overwhelming
ne.gif 05 Disciples On My Mind
ne.gif 06 Gorillaz ft Rag'n'Bone Man, Zebra Katz, & RAY BLK The Apprentice
ne.gif 07 Mura Masa ft Charli XCX 1 Night
ne.gif 08 Becky Hill Rude Love
ne.gif 09 Imagine Dragons Whatever It Takes
ne.gif 10 Shawn Mendes There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back
ne.gif 11 Harry Styles Sign Of The Times
ne.gif 12 DJ Khaled ft Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper & Lil Wayne I'm The One
ne.gif 13 Amy Shark Adore
ne.gif 14 Flume ft Kučka Hyperreal
ne.gif 15 Clean Bandit ft Zara Larsson Symphony
ne.gif 16 Paramore Hard Times
ne.gif 17 French Montana ft Swae Lee Unforgettable
ne.gif 18 Martin Solveig ft Ina Wroldsen Places
ne.gif 19 Miley Cyrus Malibu
ne.gif 20 Calvin Harris ft Future & Khalid Rollin'

151 Pokemon Songs charted for me last year, but I won't last too long on the #101-#151 section mainly because they're minor chart hits/Christmas songs/songs which would peak in 2018

I probably will look through it actually! Might do a countdown of my most played of all time at some point eventually because I was so late starting my personal chart!

STARTING ALMOST A MONTH LATER drama.gif

In this countdown songs will be ordered based on chart points accumulated whilst in my Top 20/40. Once the countdown is over I may reshuffle the Top 50 or somethink if I think some songs need justice tongue.gif An album Top 10 is on the horizon too if I get around to it

Songs #151-126

[#] [Artist] [Title] [Chart Run]
126 Lauv — Paris In The Rain [13-17-xx]
127 Clean Bandit ft Zara Larsson — Symphony [15-17-xx]
128 Slade — Merry Xmas Everybody [35-21-29-xx]
129 P!NK — Beautiful Trauma [28-37-24->]
130 Shakin' Stevens — Merry Christmas Everyone [37-25-33-xx]
131 G-Eazy & Halsey — Him & I [30-30-31->]
132 Miley Cyrus — Younger Now [18-16-xx]
133 RAY BLK — Doing Me [20-17-xx]
134 Daya — New [17-17-xx]
135 The Killers — A Great Big Sled [33-29-40-xx]
136 Jason Derulo ft French Montana — Tip Toe [38-38-39->]
137 Eminem — Remind Me [26-25->]
138 N.E.R.D ft Future — 1000 [39-32->]
139 Dua Lipa — IDGAF [40-34->]
140 Imagine Dragons & Khalid — Thunder / Young Dumb & Broke (Medley) [16->]
141 Martin Solveig ft Ina Wroldsen — Places [18-xx]
142 Taylor Swift — Look What You Made Me Do [18-xx]
143 JP Cooper — She's On My Mind [18-xx]
144 Green Day — Back In The USA [19-xx]
145 Calvin Harris ft Future & Khalid — Rollin' [20-xx]
146 Camila Cabello — Crying In The Club [20-xx]
147 Mr Eazi — Leg Over [20-xx]
148 N.E.R.D — Deep Down Body Thurst [32-xx]
149 Bebe Rexha ft Florida Georgia Line — Meant To Be [34->]
150 Paramore — Fake Happy [36->]
151 The Killers ft Dawes — Christmas In L.A [39-xx]

Dropping out first are mostly Christmas hits, album tracks, and songs which would spend more time in the chart in the new year. Both festive releases from The Killers that charted for me last December are out here, as well as classics from Slade and Shakin' Stevens. IDGAF, Fake Happy, Him & I, Tip Toe, and Beautiful Trauma all became Top 20 hits in January but are struck with being hits at the wrong time of the year. Taylor Swift and Clean Bandit would both be considerably higher if this was based on personal preference! Symphony debuted on my chart in the very first week but missed out on being a Top 5 hit at the very least simply due to my chart beginning after it's peak. Look What You Made Me Do hit me again on album release but failed to re-enter which thus means it's Taylor's lowest-peaking chart single (aside from Getaway Car which has only just entered) despite the fact it was in my Top 20 most played last year...

Unsurprisingly out fast are Bebe's crowning country pop hit Meant To Be which did later re-enter my chart, although did not find a new peak, and that really weird Thunder / Young Dumb & Broke medley which was the third time that Imagine Dragons' Thunder had charted in one way or another. The original from Khalid never charted here in yet another Dexton Chart mystery.

Songs #125-101

[#] [Artist] [Title] [Chart Run]
101 Fergie ft Nicki Minaj — You Already Know [20-16-16-14-xx]
102 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds — Holy Mountain [20-18-22-15-17-25-34-xx]
103 The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl — Fairytale of New York [20-19-20-xx]
104 Camila Cabello — Real Friends [13-12-18->]
105 U2 vs Kygo — You're The Best Thing About Me [17-13-15-xx]
106 Kygo ft Justin Jesso — Stargazing [19-13-15-xx]
107 The Killers — Rut [16-11-20-xx]
108 Bastille — Glory [15-19-17-xx]
109 Cash Cash ft Conor Maynard — All My Love [16-15-19-xx]
110 Taylor Swift ft Ed Sheeran & Future — End Game [15-17-20-xx]
111 Eminem ft Ed Sheeran — River [35-8->]
112 Matrix & Futurebound ft Calum Scott — Light Us Up [16-17-20-xx]
113 Jaded — In The Morning [12-10-xx]
114 N.E.R.D ft Rihanna — Lemon [27-24-12->]
115 Wham! — Last Christmas [40-16-13-xx]
116 Sia — Santa's Coming For Us [36-13-19-xx]
117 Mariah Carey — All I Want For Christmas Is You [24-15-26-xx]
118 Lily Allen ft Giggs — Trigger Bang [7->]
119 Harry Styles — Sign Of The Times [11-15-xx]
120 Macklemore ft Skylar Grey — Glorious [12-11-xx]
121 Post Malone ft 21 Savage — Rockstar [12-14-xx]
122 Ariana Grande — Santa Tell Me [32-18-27-xx]
123 DJ Khaled ft Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper & Lil Wayne — I'm The One [12-19-xx]
124 Amy Shark — Adore [13-20-xx]
125 OneRepublic — Truth To Power [13-16-xx]

A few bigger names drop out here with some substantial chart hits from the likes of Eminem, N.E.R.D. and Lily Allen missing out on the all important Top 100. Fergie's best single in YEARS misses out on Top 100, but funnily enough has the exact same amount of chart points as the single just one position above it. Camila's Real Friends would later go on to peak at #4 on Camila's album release, and is even charting for me right now with the version featuring Swae Lee. Real Friends is so far looking to find a new EOY peak for this year, although things could change between now and December...

The rest of last years Christmas entries miss out too, aside from Sia's Candy Cane Lane which is yet to come! It's interesting to see all these Christmas songs so high on my EOY when I imagine the 2018 EOY will have none tongue.gif

Songs #100-91

[#] [Artist] [Title] [Chart Run]
91 Sigrid — Don't Kill My Vibe [14-13-11-14-xx]
92 Yungen ft Yxng Bane — Bestie [15-14-14-15-xx]
93 Peking Duk ft Icona Pop — Let You Down [7-13-19-xx]
94 Not3s & Mabel — My Lover [17-16-11-10-16-23-33-xx]
95 Arcade Fire — Everything Now [17-10-16-18-xx]
96 Six60 — Rolling Stone [10-12-23-28-34-xx]
97 Calvin Harris ft Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean — Feels [19-11-15-19-xx]
98 MØ — When I Was Young [19-11-12-18-xx]
99 Rudimental ft James Arthur — Sun Comes Up [19-12-13-18-xx]
100 Kodaline — Brother [9-15-20-xx]

Debut chart hits from Sigrid, Yungen, Not3s, Mabel, Arcade Fire, Six60, MØ, Rudimental, and Kodaline all out here. All of these artists bar Arcade Fire, Six60, MØ and Kodaline have all since found higher peaks with new singles, most notably Calvin Harris' #1 hit One Kiss with Dua Lipa. Arcade Fire's Everything Now would have probably spent a lot more time in my chart if it charted while I had a Top 40 instead of a Top 20 - it's actually become one of my favourite songs from 2017 and iirc it was in my Top 50 most played too! The Canadian band has yet to make any other appearance in the chart though despite releasing an entire album last year. Six60 follow in a similar pattern although with a less amazing single.

Interestingly, 3 of the 8 songs which peaked at #11 last year all drop out at once here: Don't Kill My Vibe, Feels, and When I Was Young. Only one #11 peaking single remains to come...

ANOTHER MONTH LATER

Songs #90-81

[#] [Artist] [Title] [Chart Run]
81 Maggie Lindemann — Pretty Girl (Cheat Codes X Cade Remix) [13-11-17-16-20-20-xx]
82 Luis Fonsi & Demi Lovato — Échame La Culpa [7-9-16-29-xx]
83 Little Mix — Is Your Love Enough? [18-7-11-27-35-xx]
84 Maroon 5 & Julia Michaels — Help Me Out [5-10-16-xx]
85 Mura Masa ft Charli XCX — 1 Night [7-8-18-xx]
86 T2 ft Gia — Piece Of Me [20-13-11-15-19-xx]
87 Ina Wroldsen — Strongest [17-10-6->]
88 Danny L Harle — 1UL [12-9-15-20-xx]
89 Shawn Mendes — There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back [10-10-19-18-xx]
90 Imagine Dragons — Whatever It Takes [9-9-15-xx->]

Imagine Dragons' Whatever It Takes out at #90 here after it's first stint in my chart - in the first week of January this year it re-entered my chart and re-peaked at #7. The band has 6 overall top 10 hits including two from their latest album, Origins. Shawn Mendes is another frequent visitor to my chart with his first ever entry There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back at #89. Danny L Harle, T2, Gia, Mura Masa, and Maggie Lindemann unfortunately find their only ever chart hits out early in the top 90. Mura Masa had released an album since the success of 1 Night although nothing further from the project took off for me - and the rest of these artists I can't even think of another song from them laugh.gif

Songs #80-71

[#] [Artist] [Title] [Chart Run]
71 Taylor Swift — ...Ready For It? [18-10-8-12-23-33-37-39-xx]
72 Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso ft Florida Georgia Line & Watt — Let Me Go [4-8-17-xx]
73 Miley Cyrus — Malibu [19-18-16-16-12-15-18-xx]
74 Bastille — Basket Case [18-18-14-12-10-12-xx]
75 Chase & Status & Blossoms — This Moment [6-9-15-19-xx]
76 Louis Tomlinson ft Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals — Back To You 7-8-15-19-xx]
77 Sia — Candy Cane Lane [22-6-5-xx]
78 Vance Joy — Lay It On Me [12-11-7-10-xx]
79 Cheat Codes ft Fetty Wap & CVBZ — Feels Great [11-11-8-9-xx]
80 ALMA & French Montana — Phases [20-13-8-16-18-xx]

Very forgettable flash in the pan hits from ALMA, Louis Tomlinson, Chase & Status, and Hailee Steinfeld here. The highlight from Taylor Swift's Reputation, ...Ready For It?, comes in at #71 and remains my favourite from the album and is probably one of my favourites from her entire career. Same goes for Miley Cyrus' Malibu and Vance Joy's Lay It On Me, neither of which have managed to find higher peaks with their respective follow-up singles since then. The highest peaking Christmas song of last year was Sia's Candy Cane Lane which is out here at #77, Sia had a great year last year with two top 5 hits and 2018 has been even better for her - with someof her Christmas releases likely to re-enter this December.

Songs #70-51

[#] [Artist] [Title] [Chart Run]
51 Stormzy ft MNEK — Blinded By Your Grace, Pt.2 [4-8-11-15-15-28-38->]
52 Axwell Λ Ingrosso — More Than You Know [18-14-16-13-9-9-11-16-xx]
53 Wyclef Jean ft LunchMoney Lewis & The Knocks — What Happened To Love [2-7-14-xx]
54 Lorde — Perfect Places [9-6-6-12-14-xx]
55 Little Mix ft Stormzy — Power [6-4-13-18-20-xx]
56 Enrique Iglesias — Súbeme la Radio (feat. Sean Paul & Matt Terry) [20-6-4-12-19-xx]
57 Flume ft Kučka — Hyperreal [14-6-5-11-20-xx]
58 Lorde — Homemade Dynamite (feat. Khalid, SZA, & Post Malone) [12-5-6-11-17-xx]
59 Gorillaz ft Rag'n'Bone Man, Zebra Katz, & RAY BLK — The Apprentice [6-5-9-15-xx]
60 Disciples — Jealousy [15-9-10-9-10-16-xx]

61 Calvin Harris ft Kehlani & Lil Yachty — Faking It [3-6-18-xx]
62 Alan Walker, Noah Cyrus & Digital Farm Animals — All Falls Down [20-17-20-12-11-9-17-21->]
63 Jon Bellion — Overwhelming [4-7-13-19-xx]
64 Liam Gallagher — Wall Of Glass [3-7-16-xx]
65 Robin Schulz — Oh Child [7-9-6-12-xx]
66 John Gibbons — P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing) [10-10-8-9-13-xx]
67 Portugal. The Man — Live In The Moment [13-6-8-14-17->]
68 Stefflon Don & French Montana — Hurtin' Me [10-5-8-15-xx]
69 Starley — Touch Me [11-5-7-12-xx]
70 Becky Hill — Rude Love [8-11-7-14-19-xx]

Doubling up because I keep forgetting to do this when I have time and people are posting their 2018 EOY's kink.gif Quite a few big songs miss out on Top 50, including long runners from Stormzy, Axwell Λ Ingrosso, and Alan Walker. Wyclef Jean somehow had a #2 debut last year although spent just three weeks in the chart... It's an alright song but no way is it one I go back to! Similarly can be said for the songs here from Enrique Iglesias, Flume, and Becky Hill. Both of Lorde's chart entries to date fall out within just a few places of each other sad.gif Melodrama was a great album and Green Light would certainly be in the Top 50 (at the very least) if my chart dated back that far x Jon Bellion's All Time Low would be a Top 5 challenger too if not for my chart starting midyear.

To no ones surprise, this is Wyclef Jeans only chart appearance yet. Flume, Enrique Iglesias, Robin Schulz, and Starley share this one-hit-wonder status from this batch of hits. Some HUGE songs, both in my chart and commerically, have only just skimmed into the Top 50 which will be revealed soon. In fact only 2 points separate #51 and #50!

39 Alan Walker — The Spectre [10-3-4-8-13-16-xx]
40 Sigala ft Ella Eyre — Came Here For Love [14-11-10-9-7-7-11-14-17-xx]

41 Clean Bandit ft Julia Michaels — I Miss You [16-14-9-6-4-10-19-23->]

49 Logic ft Alessia Cara & Khalid — 1-800-273-8255 [4-6-7-15-19-xx]
50 Lauv — Easy Love [9-5-3-13-19-xx]

Speeding through sort of! Aas no one is actually interested in last year's chart laugh.gif Lauv's Easy Love comes in at #50, the follow-up single to #1 hit I Like Me Better. Lauv could be a contender for the #1 song of 2017 so perhaps he'll be bookending the 2017 Top 50 for me? Plenty of debut hits here from the likes of Logic, Pink, Dua Lipa, Sigala, Eminem, Jax Jones, Raye, MK, and a few more I skimmed over. Unfortunately for Raye, Decline's two-week run at #1 was split between 2017 and 2018 so despite it being one of my most 'successful' charting singles to date it falls at a measly #36 in the 2017 EOY. She should be similarly high in the 2018 EOY, although whether she'll beat that peak is yet to be determined...

Cola is CamelPhat & Elderbrook's only chart appearance to date in Dexton's Top 20/40/50. Likewise The Script, Wale, James Hype, and Martin Solveig have yet to return. Martin Solveig did have a minor hit with Places early last year although only spent one week in the chart. Wale's My Love is arguably the most underrated song of the year... it soooo should have been a huge chart hit but somehow didn't do anything anywhere? It's a shame it wasn't released just a few months later once New Rules had become a hit for Dua because if this were released now I'm positive it'd be a contender for an official #1

Songs #30-21

[#] [Artist] [Title] [Chart Run]
21 French Montana ft Swae Lee — Unforgettable [17-14-12-7-7-4-3-8-10-14-xx]
22 DJ Snake ft Lauv — A Different Way [2-2-3-6-19-xx]
23 DJ Khaled ft Rihanna & Bryson Tiller — Wild Thoughts [5-4-2-5-10-14-16-19-xx]
24 Avicii ft Rita Ora — Lonely Together [2-2-6-9-13-13-19-xx]
25 Coldplay & Big Sean — Miracles (Someone Special) [3-4-4-5-13-14-15-xx]
26 Zayn ft Sia — Dusk Till Dawn [12-11-9-9-6-4-4-10-14-xx]
27 Rita Ora — Your Song [6-4-2-7-11-12-17-xx]
28 Paramore — Hard Times [16-12-2-4-6-10-17-18-xx]
29 Jax Jones ft Ina Wroldsen — Breathe [5-3-3-3->]
30 Camila Cabello — Never Be The Same [1-2-4->]

One more #1 out here but impressively Camila Cabello manages a top 30 position in the 2017 Year-End chart with only 3 weeks on the chart, resuming it's chart run in the new year. Likewise Jax Jones' Breathe which actually climbed to #2 in January 2018 smile.gif A string of more unlucky #2 hits also fall out as we definitely get to the top end of the EOY. Avicii's Lonely Together is at a respectable #24 leaving only Without You left here from his 2017 EP. Three tracks from his EP debuted the week of it's release all in the top 3, a fourth song Friend Of Mine entered at #1 the chart following his untimely death earlier this year.

Double the DJ's with Snake and Khaled both only just missing out on top 20 with #2 peaking singles. I was fully expecting French Montana's Unforgettable to have been top 20 in this but apparently I remembered it's chart run wrong and it didn't last as long as I thought after it peaked tongue.gif

Breathe is my favourite from that last 10, it wore off after a bit but the beat itself was really good and a step away from his last two singles! His next two were an even bigger step away and not as good though sad.gif

Breathe is probably my favourite from him to date! You Don't Know Me is a close second but it got a bit too much after a while tongue.gif

#20 - 285 points

The Killers - Run For Cover [3-6-10-10-11-15-17-20-7-7-14-20-xx]

One of the two singles from The Killers within my top 20, "Run For Cover" spent a long time in my chart with big thanks to the release of their album "Wonderful Wonderful" which gave this song an extra month of chart longevity! This instantly become a favourite from the band and is definitley in my Top 10 The Killers singles along with "The Man" which is yet to be revealed... They've had a few minor chart hits since this hit #3 but nothing has quite matched it's success with the Elton John cover "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" being their only Top 10 hit since.

Chart History (to December 2018)
2017 The Man [1]
2017 Run For Cover [3]
2017 Rut [11]
2017 A Great Big Sled [29]
2017 Christmas In L.A ft Dawes [39]
2018 Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters [10]

Camila Cabello ft Young Thug — Havana [1-5-9-9-8-15-8-14-17-xx->]

Literally one point more than "Run For Cover"! Camila Cabello's second single on my chart debuted at #1 and a few weeks later climbed to #1 across the world giving Camila her first #1 single anywhere. "Havana" was inescapable in Q4 2017 much like a few more songs that are yet to come out of my Top 20. Camila followed the sucess of "Havana" with a second #1 single for her on my chart along with a string of Top 5 hits - however her most recent single Consequences has missed my chart entirely! oops she missed the mark there tongue.gif This hit re-entered the chart for two weeks following the release of her debut self-titled album although unfortunately will not be making an appearance in my 2018 End of Year.

Chart History (to December 2018)
2017 Crying In The Club [20]
2017 Havana ft Young Thug [1]
2017 Never Be The Same [1]
2017 Real Friends [4]
2018 She Loves Control [2]
2018 Beautiful (with Bazzi) [5]
