2nd May 2021

It's 2 weeks on top for The Supremes' 1966 mini-classic, the inspiration for Hall & Oates Maneater, Stevie Wonder's Part Time Lover and a zillion others. Wolf Alice remain the best current track of the last 2 months, but a few are getting a look in the top 10, all of them firsts except Kylie who keeps the Disco album increasing the top 10's: the 8th off it. Texas get their highest-charting since 2013 with the Donna Summer sample, with highest new entry from Will Young, covering Bat For Lashes Daniel, 19 years since he debuted and 12 years since Daniel went top 10.

Alabama 3 have been absent for 20 years from the chart, but return 23 years on from debut Ain't Goin' To Goa with a 4th track, Whacked. Of similar vintage is Moby's revamp with current artists replacing blues samples on Natural Blues, top 10 in 2000 originally. And adding to their current runs we have Suzi Quatro, Billie Eilish, Noel Gallagher and Bright Light Bright Light, with Aphrodite's Child debuting with a 50-year-old progrock track Four Horsemen, 5 years since they last had an oldie in my chart, and 46 years since they first had an oldie in my chart: 1972's brilliant Break charted in 1975, so they have never charted while still active, though both band members Demis Roussos and Vangelis have had quite a few in between.

59 61 59 5 LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD - Pat Benatar 37800

I wonder why this is back in your chart? One of the best 80s tunes, iand like De Lacy Hideaway from 10 years later has a big vocal and is a big dance floor tune, great!

40 44 40 7 CRY - Godley & Creme 76650

Why's this back too I wonder, this and Under My Thumb are both great by them.

45 57 45 5 SUMMER 91 (LOOKING BACK) - Noizu 44800

I like this, great retro dance vibes and I hope it makes official top 40 this week but I do prefer Marea We've Lost Dancing by Fred Again and The Blessed Madonna at the moment (also just outside official top 40) for big new dance tunes, because of its very relevant for this time spoken word vocal in it.

Hey John! happy.gif

Dance Floor Darling shooting up the chart wub.gif I'm ready to replaylist this now but I also wanna wait and see if she gives it some remixes or a feature maybe.
Deja Vu still climbing is great. It's a shame it doesn't appear to be replicating the same success as Drivers License on the official chart but it's managed to respectably peak at #12 so far. Hopefully it can at some point, sneak a week top 10!
Starsteuck still climbing as well wub.gif I will be so annoyed if this misses the top 10 officially by the end of its run
It's of the best songs he's released so far!
I'm really hoping to see Jessie Ware's 'Please' enter here in the next couple weeks. I'd think that you would enjoy it!

Great chart! jump.gif

Hi John! Great to see Billie Eilish debutting this week. I don't think Your Power is one of her better singles but usually in the last few releases her singles warm up a lot more with the help of covers (Shamir, LOV etc.), so fingers crossed this will happen! And Will Young biggrin.gif

Hi Snakey smile.gif

Most oldies are in my chart due to films, TV, ad/promo spots or they popped up in the itunes top 200 for some reason - Pat was in the itunes chart, as was Cry - often it's due to a BBC4 music show on a Friday or something like that pushing sales, though I have noticed Steve Wright Love Songs has a fair bit of an instant impact. I can't chart oldies without an excuse as the chart would end up filled with even more oldies that I feel didn;t get high enough first time round - like Barry White's chart-topping classic which didn;t even make my top 30 at the time as his records had started to sound a bit samey and I preferred his earlier soul tracks to the move to disco! ohmy.gif laugh.gif

I heard that Marea tune, it's not bad and I certainly agree with the sentiment, roll on clubs and concerts opening up again!

Thanks for commenting! cool.gif

Hey james! smile.gif

Deja Vu not doing too badly all things considered considering the rap-heavy charts these days, better than Kylie at any rate. I mentioned Kylie to my niece, almost 18, and she didn't know who she was. The only Kylie she knows is Jenner! Kids so wrapped up in their own social media universe they know nothing about life beyond it! laugh.gif

Hope Starstruck goes top 10 too, great little pop record, and your wish is immediately granted for Jessie Ware - it only took one listen for me to decide to buy it. I might as well have bought the album I've downloaded so many tracks laugh.gif

Cheers! cool.gif

Hi Uhsting! smile.gif

yes it's often hard to judge Billie Eilish tracks on initial hearing as they tend to be growers, and this one is pleasant on first hearing but not sure how it's going to sound after 10 plays just yet. Glad you like the Will Young cover, I love the original and he does a great job on Daniel.

cheers! cool.gif

Hi AH! smile.gif

Thanks for the pickings biggrin.gif I can see the Somewhere Only We Know vibe to Ashe & Finneas, the video is pretty good too. Mr Haze clicked with me suddenly laugh.gif

I didnt know Elizabeth Taylor was one of the Will Young picks, that's good news it's about time it found a wider audience and Will does covers tastefully by and large.

Cheers!
