Yeah I was really surprised by 'Talking Body' - I kinda thought Tove would disappear pretty much instantly once it was clear 'Not On Drugs' wasn't gaining traction. But I'm happy to see it doing well and I hope it does a lot more.
AlunaGeorge remix bubbling under? Weird but I hope it goes Hot 100.
It's been getting some pop airplay, though I think it's being treated as DJ Snake's follow-up to "Turn Down for What" rather than a breakout for AlunaGeorge. It would be cool to see AG chart regardless.
All those Kendrick debuts
Uptown Funk still looks pretty much untouchable. Without some sort of belated sales boost, Maroon 5 look out of the race almost. The Weeknd actually looks the best chance to go #1 next with the airplay gains he's getting.
Ouch at Ghost 44-x. I do think Ella hasn't performed that well in America despite her incredible promotion tbh!
^Unless they are still climbing, such as Headband^
Uptown Funk's reign is incredible, it should be #1 for another few weeks. Anyone have the Albums chart?
Nice to see 'Talking Body' climbing into the top 40 and securing another hit for her It's just reached a new peak on iTunes and is steadily climbing on radio so it's not over yet!
What do we think to the chances of Uptown Funk matching/beating One Sweet Day's record?
and Uptown Funk is annoying, so its like choosing between daggers and knives...
The Rihanna track doesn't seem like something that pop radio would jump at the chance to play. It might become something like "Drunk in Love"/"Anaconda" and get to the upper reaches of the Hot 100 on strong sales/streams but airplay won't push it to #1.
I sure hope it doesn't get the record (is there any Mariah record she won't lose?) but I can't really see anything likely to stop it. Airplay-wise Ellie looks like the best bet but I don't think she'll get the traction on sales.
i hope Uptown Funk breaks One Sweet Day's record because it's a way better song not to mention it is by a British artist which will be a great achievement for Brit artists in the US...
It's not my favourite Mark Ronson single, but he more than deserves breaking records. I'm very happy for his success and hopefully this will encourage him to put out a more radio friendly album. He's a way better producer than David Guetta/Calvin Harris.
RE: "Ghost" - Billlboard has a recurrency rule in which songs drop off after 20 weeks when they fall off the top 50, simply going recurrent.
"GDFR" tho
It's mostly airplay that causes songs to stick around (and no, they're not gonna take airplay out of the equation after 57 years)
I agree that One Sweet Day is not a great song and hasn't aged well, but I don't like the idea of its record being broken mostly because I hate these ultra long running #1s. We're back to 10 years ago when only 8-10 singles reach #1 every year...
