We've had a few, but our highest charting is Fuck Buttons “Surf Solar” which made it to 12th in BJSC LXVIII!

I have zero instrumental entries and one with barely-there vocals, which is one of my biggest flops biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Jacob Alan @ May 17 2016, 01:28 AM) *
Main Contest:

2016

[No Instrumentals]

2017

BJSC 94 // "Up Ship!" - Port Blue (Q // 34th of 41 in Final // 20th* of 33 in Semi 2)

*Due to a clerical error, Port Blue "should" have been 21st in the semi final and a DNQ in BJSC 94.

2018

BJSC 104 // "Looped" - Kiasmos (Q // 11th of 37 in Final // 8th of 28th in Semi 1)

2019

BJSC 112 // "Skylarking" - BT (Q // 25th [12th without 15% deduction] of 38 in Final // 6th of 28 in Semi 2)

2020

BJSC 127 // "Beyond You" - Thomas James White (Q // 42nd of 42 in Final // 14th of 30 in Semi)
BJSC 129 // "14.3 Billion Years" - Andrew Prahlow (DNQ // 23rd of 33 in Semi 1)

2021

BJSC 132 // "Alive" - Phil Lober (Q // 19th of 41 in Final // 4th of 30 in Semi 1)

Spin Offs:

Instrumentals: "Illusion Of Choice" - Gramatik (10th of 41)
Still upset about 14.3 Billion Years. And about Skylarking's deduction (which I don't fully acknowledge in my own stats as you can see x).

Alive is a "sort of" instrumental, cause it has vocoder/ background vocals but they're quite sparse.

'But Blood' definitely isn't an instrumental unless I have known the wrong song all of these years? ohmy.gif

edit: I see it being sneakily removed magic.gif

My judgement if it's instrumental or not x

XLVIII - dnq Three Trapped Tigers // Reset
LVIII - #7 Clams Casino // I'm God
90s - #11 Orbital // Belfast
LXI - dnq Todd Terje // Inspector Norse
LXIX - dnq Karma Kid // Lust, Love
LXXIII - dnq Kölsch // Cassiopeia (feat. Gregor Schwellenbach)
LXXIX - dnq Telephones // Blaff
LXXX - dnq Stephen Lopkin // Farewell G41
LXXXI - dnq Art Of Tones // The World As I Live It
LXXXIV - dnq O'Flynn // Desmond's Empire
LXXXV - #21 Bicep // Just
LXXXVI - dnq Dave DK // Woolloomooloo
CXIV - #37 Against All Logic // I Never Dream
CXV - #10 Orbital // Chime/Crime (Live)
CXXI - dnq Four Tet // Anna Painting
CXXIII - dnq Laurel Halo // Tru (feat. Hodge)
CXXV - dnq Legowelt // Disco Rout
CXXVII - #9 Krystal Klear // Neutron Dance
CXXVIII - dnq Instinct // Pistolwhip
CXXX - #28 Slowdive // Souvlaki Space Station
CXXXII - dnq The Field // Yesterday and Today (feat. Kate Bush)
CXXXIII - #37 Laurent Garnier // The Man With The Red Face

It took like 3 years till I sent my first one but then I never really stopped.

I initially felt like I'd sent quite a few but, having checked, I can only recall these:

01 Jean Michel-Blais - Hypocrite
05 Ludovico Einaudi - Experience
05 De Grandi - Paris Nord-est
08 Wealstarr - Ferria Festival
08 Kenton Slash Demon - Harpe
13 DJ Mehdi - Signatune
15 Rex the Dog - Maximize
16 Sauvage - Wolves
17 Agoria - Up All Night
27 Gilligan Moss - Choreograph (I think this was instrumental, not entirely sure though!)
28 Kölsch - ţema fyrir fljótavík

The vast majority of them finished top 20 so not bad at all happy.gif

Interesting thread. BTW Wardy your sole instrumental entry is one of my fave BJSC discoveries EVER wub.gif

Definitely been peddling the instrumentals a lot lately. Yet to send a non-instrumental entry this year and my entry this month will also be such.

BJSC 88: T2Kazuya - Youth [30th]
BJSC 91: Will Sparks - Flamenco [DNQ]
BJSC 102: Purple Haze - Choir 1.0 [8th]
BJSC 103: Mark Eliyahu - Journey [11th]
BJSC 106: TEPR - Hello E [14th]
BJSC 110: Trevor Reilly - Down With The Underground [10th]
BJSC 113: Sunlounger - White Sand [14th]
BJSC 121: Noisestorm - Crab Rave [15th]
BJSC 124: MASTER BOOT RECORD - BAYAREA.BMP [9th]
BJSC 131: John 00 Fleming - Colourful Kites In The Sky [8th]
BJSC 132: Mike Koglin - Sphere [14th]
BJSC 133: Faux Tales - Atlas (ALPHA 9 Remix) [6th]
(BJSC 134: ???)

So that's 12 out of 55 entries which are instrumentals (and soon to be 13 out of 56) which is actually surprisingly low considering how I generally gravitate to such songs. That also may be because they tend to deliver me good results with only one DNQ and all of my last 10 instrumental entries finishing in the top 15.

I think the only song that qualified was Ljósiđ by Ólafur Arnalds (wayyyy back in BJSC22 before he became a regular here so ur welcome). We finished 7th that time, I never expected such a good result.

Sola Fide is probably my favourite entry I have sent ever and it's instrumental so I waz robbed.
