My issue is that Mick only ever sees faults in others and doesn't recognise his own. And I'm sure the writers think they can get away with writing him this way because 'everyone loves Danny Dyer'

Yeah, I feel the character gets away with a lot because of it being portrayed by Danny Dyer too. I do think that this might change soon enough though as I don't think SOC has his favourites in the way DTC kinda did (apart from Michelle, perhaps) - it's been rumoured and is now showing on screen that the Carters are likely to lose their licence (unsure whether they'd go as far as to lose the Vic) and Danny Dyer has suggested before that he wants his character to stay in charge of the Vic, so it seems SOC doesn't care for pandering to certain people. We certainly know he's ruthless by killing off R&R, despite it being obvious that Sam and Rita weren't happy about it.
