What are we thinking? Surely it must help out a little bit!

Maybe a little, but I think regardless it will depend on how GOOD the next single is - she needs to bring an undeniably great track if she wants to use this as a springboard!

I think River going to #1 shows what side of Ellie the public prefer so if she wants success she needs to have more tracks like that what actually show case her voice. Close To Me, 16 and Hate Me did nothing to show off Ellie’s unique sound and done nothing to show her individuality either but River actually did.

I'd like to agree but to be fair, considering HOW it got to #1 I don't think it really shows anything at all about the public. unsure.gif

I don't think most people even knew it was Ellie Goulding.

I would be very surprised if it contributed any form of momentum towards the next single.

people are not stupid, sure some knew

I really think it will help but again it has to be a great song, not something like Hate Me
Reason for edit: offensive word replaced

I've replaced a word in your post, please stop using the r-word so flippantly as it's seen as offensive

It's not about people being stupid — it's about how, mostly, the song was heard via a curated festive playlist and not because of Ellie Goulding.
