BuzzJack Music Forum _ Girls Aloud _ Best and Worst

7 solo albums in total from Girls Aloud members but which solo album do you prefer?
Also, which is the worst solo album by the Girls?

Cheryl’s debut is her best. She actually has three strong solo albums tbh (Messy Little Raindrops felt rushed).

Kimberley’s is my least favourite just down to the genre of it over anything else. Her voice sounded pretty good on it but it’s hard to compare it with the other releases due to it being like a covers album with two original tracks on there.

Best: Cinderella's Eyes (Nicola)
Worst: Only Human (Cheryl)

I've gone with A Million Lights as the best. It's overly long, but there's some very high highs on there.

Worst for me is definitely Centre Stage.

BEST: Cinderella's Eyes
WORST: Messy Little Raindrops (Worst album I have heard by anyone ever)

I honestly find Messy Little Raindrops to be more good than bad, I've never really understood the point of view that it's terrible. The most terrible thing about it is its title!

There's only two songs on there I don't like: Everyone & Raindrops (the latter is quite possibly her worst song lyrically, she's never sounded more shrill and overall it's dull). I'd probably put Happy Tears in the bottom 3 too, that's forgettable.

Promise This, Yeah Yeah, Hummingbird and Waiting are some of her very best tracks for me (Yeah Yeah in particular being a career highlight), and I suppose I'd round off that "Top 5 of the album" with The Flood. Amnesia is quite nice, ironically it has some very catchy hooks. Live Tonight and Better to Lie are fine. I'd say there's worse songs spread out across her other albums than any of the tracks I've mentioned in this paragraph.

There's certainly more good stuff to take from this album than from Centre Stage. That was a... let's say interesting exercise in exposing the limitations of Kimberley's voice. Those songs were far too much for her!

'Yeah Yeah' was for me literally the only half-decent track on the whole thing. I remember 'Amnesia' in particular being very severe torture.

Do you think we will get anymore solo albums from the girls?

Posted by: pippa 3rd September 2019, 06:18 PM

If there is any chance it will come from Cheryl.
That said, by this stage i expected Nicola to have had her 2nd album released.
