BuzzJack Music Forum _ Britney Spears _ 'Make Me' (feat. G-Eazy) • Part 2

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 21 2016, 08:41 PM

Continue discussing the first single from her 9th album in this thread, here! biggrin.gif

---

Just saw another alternate video (which is available via the American Dream app) and I'm taking that over the official tbh.

I'll post a link when another becomes available coz the one I was watching got removed lol. Pretty much all the solo shots of her from the official video, but just more vibrant and moody, selling the song a lot better. Plus more shots of her passionately singing along which I absolutely adore wub.gif

Posted by: Tyler Sep 21 2016, 09:21 PM

Idk why they thought that shitty casting idea was ever good.

Posted by: Kye Sep 21 2016, 10:49 PM

I wish the way to enter to win tickets to see Britney at the Apple Music Festival was to purchase 'Make Me'. Imagine the sales laugh.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 21 2016, 11:08 PM

Plus, that'd ensure it was the actual FANS of the artist were going and not just because they want to go to a free gig. sad.gif Making it harder for those die hards that have trouble getting tickets for people who wouldn't be interested!!

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Sep 21 2016, 11:11 PM

Britney's UK presence is always really underwhelming. Even her AM festival isn't being as hyped as One Republic or Robbie.

Posted by: liamk97 Sep 21 2016, 11:11 PM

I just read about this new 'Make Me...' video! The article started off saying how it wasn't the one we were expecting (David LaChapelle) so I thought it would just be some animation or a compilation of fans singing the song or something and not really worth watching, but then I saw it say it was the official video without the crap and with solo Britney outtake footage added in and I absolutely need this.

Posted by: liamk97 Sep 22 2016, 06:07 PM

Alternative version is on YouTube (fan uploaded):

Okay, it's not brilliant and a lot of the editing could be much better, but it's a vast improvement on what we got. There just needs to be some footage of something with substance in there to balance out all the bum-wiggles and hair-flips.

This is a 6.5/10 vs the original being a 2/10

Thank you for posting it!

Posted by: Rob Spears Sep 22 2016, 07:43 PM

This video is a 10/10 compared to that monstrosity! biggrin.gif

Oh yeah definitely! I was just rating it in comparison to her other videos.

Posted by: Rob Spears Sep 22 2016, 07:52 PM

I actually really love it. Why some of these shots weren't included in the other video I don't know. Instead we get the screaming hyenas and a fat guy dancing.

Posted by: Mac n' Cheese 🧀 Sep 22 2016, 08:02 PM

Ok I just watched it in the game app and it was much better quality. I'd give it a 7.5/10 TBH. My score also went up because I watched the original again. Blegh. UPLOAD THIS TO VEVO NOW.

Posted by: Cody Hough Sep 22 2016, 08:54 PM

Why can't we have the original original video

That was an improvement but of like 1-1.5 points tbh

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 27 2016, 02:17 PM

'Make Me' has become her 10th #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts! cheer.gif

Posted by: Tyler Sep 27 2016, 04:15 PM

Awesome! I've only gone out twice in the past month and I've heard it both times, one being the cash cash remix! The club exploded and this was not a gay bar!

Posted by: Addy K!ng Sep 27 2016, 04:35 PM

Don't you just love when Britney record comes in club and you suddenly just hear a lot of "oooh" "wow" and "yes" from the crowd wub.gif

75k combined sales & streams in the UK.

1 year old, still loving this like first day wub.gif

Posted by: Rob Spears Jul 16 2017, 07:48 PM

It's such a shame the video totally ruined any momentum it had.

Posted by: Joe. Jul 16 2017, 10:06 PM

Wow is that it? Did OCC confirm this! Such a shame. Still love it.

Posted by: Rob Spears Jul 17 2017, 05:24 PM

That's not too bad for a #43 peak that had a chat run of #43 > OUT pretty much. LOL.

True that! I'm surprised it's over 50k tbh.

Posted by: liamk97 Jul 19 2017, 04:47 PM

Listening to this now - I still get a little bit of excitement inside me during the verses, anticipating that glorious chorus! Still quite saddened it wasn't at least a minor hit at the time, but I am very happy it gave me so many strong, positive memories. The video of course was a disaster, but I probably watched that all the way through about twice and have the magnificent VMA performance to envision when I listen to the song.

Chart run wasn't quite that bad it was 42-92-175-168-156-185-75-112-194. It hung around in the lower regions of the chart for quite a while which goes to show if it had some support it could have smashed. It was on 56k at the end of this run, so I expected more sales over the course of the year.

But seriously, where was it confirmed out of interest? If I can see an official source I'll update the sales thread smile.gif

I love these 80s remixes! This one isn't as organic at the Rihanna ones but I hope they do more, a Slumber Party one could work!

Posted by: blacksquare May 17 2018, 09:27 AM

It really is a shame this didn't do better or isn't as regarded by her fans as it should be.

Listening to it now and it's such a smooth bop~

Posted by: Cqmerqn May 17 2018, 03:42 PM

It’s a bop

Posted by: Atonement May 17 2018, 06:53 PM

Must be her best lead.

Yeah, I said it.

Posted by: Lee_J11 May 18 2018, 11:45 AM

Definitely her worst lead, better best forgotten tbf

Posted by: Jay ☆ May 18 2018, 11:51 AM

Lol, well I’ll be the one on the fence and say that it’s not her best lead, and it’s not her worst.

Posted by: Euphorique May 18 2018, 12:14 PM

It's one of her best for me. Probably just behind Oops tbh.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn May 18 2018, 07:26 PM

I think it's a really good song by her. It's more interesting than some of her output, it has some substance to it.

Posted by: Andrew. May 18 2018, 07:37 PM

This (and Slumber Party) hasn't aged well for me but I still love the album, which is a modern pop classic wub.gif I was addicted to this and overplayed it a LOT, I was completely sick of it by the time Glory was released, then got back into it but haven't listened for a while.

Posted by: Joe. May 22 2018, 08:25 AM

Most of her lead singles are hugely iconic so it' hard to match up, but I'd say this is a very strong single from her overall, and I wouldn't say it's aged badly all. It still sounds nice and summery.

Posted by: Tyler May 25 2018, 04:58 PM

All the queens will cite this as being bad because they equate quality with chart success. The entire ‘Glory’ album is supremely underrated and it’s in her holy trinity for me. f*** some sales, I’m just glad she rebounded from the mess that was ‘Britney Jean’.

Liking music then suddenly disliking it when it underperforms or flops is so annoying. Like why.

Posted by: tommie Apr 12 2019, 09:26 PM

So, this is the original scrapped video?

https://www.facebook.com/britneyinsidefr/videos/410460399746968/

It's kind of a mess and I can see why she supposedly hated it. The "house" scenes seem entirely different to the rest of the video and it comes across as incoherent.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 12 2019, 11:27 PM

https://streamable.com/amp_player/2jgg3?__twitter_impression=true&fbclid=IwAR3WSqFs0GA9Es6JukPweOUPlDaYamBTw7zU234E8a0tA4nwQYWk67v7uAA

^ Here it is in higher quality! It's supposedly unfinished, not quite what the final version of the video would have been.

It's certainly... unusual! The "house scenes" are quite random/odd, I'm not sure what they were going for there. Dare I say I find the dance scenes a little on the boring side (maybe it's the camera work not doing it justice, idk??). She does look incredible throughout though.

Even though I'm not hugely enthusiastic about the original video, it would still have been more tolerable than the mess that they came up with to replace it, ugh.

Posted by: liamk97 Apr 13 2019, 12:33 AM

What I like most about it is how unairbrushed it is. Britney looks f***ing HOT!! heart.gif I guess it's quite a "style over substance" sort of video but anything is better than the one we received. I mean, girls all giggling about Britney having sex isn't really the one.

It's just a matter of them not committing to one idea or the other - if they had went full-on with the dance studio scenes /w some behind the scenes shots or just with the concept of a weird suburban house party then it would've been ok. It just didn't seem like they could decide on one concept or the other, so they just went with both.

Posted by: Nick Jonas Apr 13 2019, 02:38 PM

So much better than the crap we got for the ‘official’ video.

Posted by: Euphorique Apr 13 2019, 06:57 PM

No longer available :/

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 14 2019, 09:40 AM

It's annoying coz had it been edited better, it really could've worked. I assume it definitely wasn't finished though, but when I saw it I was thinking, OK this is saucier and hotter than I even imagined lmao!

Posted by: 365 Apr 14 2019, 09:56 AM

I think with finished editing and a glossy finish it would have turned Make Me into the hit it deserved to be. It was a minor hit anyway, but genuinely could have done that with a better video.

Posted by: *Tim Apr 14 2019, 10:28 AM

This is legit her worst lead single ever, what are you guys even talking about

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 14 2019, 11:19 AM

WTF are YOU talking about Pal!!!!!????

It still sounds amaze today! It's just so slick and smooth. The production is lush and reminds me of Summer every time. wub.gif

Posted by: GTH Apr 14 2019, 12:41 PM

That video is such a mess. I am not sure more editing could have saved it. It is a shame things went so wrong with the video for this song. With a decent video, this could have had the impacted it needed to break top 40 here. You compare both of those to the slumber party video and they pale in comparison.

It was her biggest hit in my personal chart, its so underrated. I actually think it might be my 2nd favorite Britney lead after Oops tbh.

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 2 2019, 12:11 PM

Still sounding so good 3 years on wub.gif Possibly her most underrated single ever?

Posted by: Mixxer Aug 5 2019, 04:35 PM

the only good thing about is her sounding very good on it. It suits her voice perfectly, othen than that, it was a pretty weak lead single.

Posted by: Algernon Monqueef Aug 5 2019, 06:38 PM

That video is an absolute MESS! I know she gave up loong ago, but man alive!! Just choose a concept - house weirdness, or warehouse dance - and stick with it!

I don't mind the song but it's not like excellent or anythin. Her best is In The Zone!
