I'm sure there will be a tour!!

But early for me to start thinking about set lists and themes

Posted by: J▼hnkm 13th January 2015, 03:49 PM

I hope she leaves it to 2016 to be honest, at least to try and make the album happen. The tour will sell well regardless, they always do.

Posted by: SweetCandy 13th January 2015, 05:55 PM

It's been 3 years since the last one in May. We need a new tour.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 13th January 2015, 07:41 PM

It's also been 3 years since her last album, so it's not been an especially long gap given it was also 3 years between S&S2.0 and MDNA.

Posted by: liamk97 13th January 2015, 09:28 PM

I'd prefer Madonna to have the tour next year too. Having it this year would just mean the album era will be finished before summer and she's quite capable of making sure the era does go beyond summer if only her management will get her good televised promotion.

Posted by: SweetCandy 30th January 2015, 11:59 AM

From the NRJ Interview:
NRJ: Have you already thought about the next tour?
M: I have some ideas, yes, but I’ve been very focused on finishing my record, doing the first video, preparing for the Grammys and I only in the back of my mind is what I’m gonna do on my tour, not yet.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 30th January 2015, 01:18 PM

To be fair, given the ''effort'' expelled on the MDNA tour a few hours could probably come up with something better.

Posted by: SweetCandy 31st January 2015, 07:22 AM

Rumours has it the tour will start September 2nd in Canada & Europe will get the tour in November. (Italy November 21st)

Posted by: SweetCandy 9th February 2015, 08:45 PM

Madonna was asked by Ryan Seacrest was she going on tour and Madonna replied "Yeah I'm a stage girl".

Posted by: SweetCandy 20th February 2015, 06:43 PM

Just seeing that depending how you pre order Rebel Heart you can get Pre Sale to Madonna's shows in some places so far it's Denmark & Germany.

Posted by: Acoustic 26th February 2015, 04:27 PM

Rumour is a tour announcement is coming Monday.

I hope she does more than one London date this time.

Posted by: SweetCandy 27th February 2015, 10:36 AM

Yeah me too, I heard it's more arenas this time around. London is closest to me so I'm hoping for a few shows there.

Posted by: SweetCandy 27th February 2015, 03:26 PM

It's official tour dates announced on Monday 2nd March.

Soo who's coming ?.

Posted by: SweetCandy 2nd March 2015, 08:57 AM

How would one get pre-sale?

Think I'm going to go for Glasgow, even if it is annoyingly close to Christmas.

Posted by: SweetCandy 2nd March 2015, 02:27 PM

I'm going to go to London and possibly Birmingham as its close to my birthday.

Posted by: Acoustic 2nd March 2015, 03:36 PM

I'm going to try for London tickets.

Posted by: liamk97 2nd March 2015, 04:26 PM

Full list of dates added to the first post. Those UK dates are very close to Christmas but if it means the album can get a tour effect with the added benefit of the Christmas market, then that would be great.

Posted by: HausofFrasier 2nd March 2015, 06:09 PM

BIRMINGHAM for me. YAYYYY!

I am so confused about how to get presale tickets though...

Posted by: SweetCandy 6th March 2015, 03:53 PM

Yeah, her first and only tour was the Girlie Show back in 1993!!.

STill no information yet sad.gif. Hope she does tour there.

It will be my first time seeing her. On my bucket list of things to do before i die, so i can hardly contain my excitement for it! biggrin.gif

What time are the presales going up?

Posted by: SweetCandy 8th March 2015, 09:16 PM

10am Tuesday - Wednesday 5pm.

Posted by: Acoustic 8th March 2015, 11:53 PM

How much were MDNA tickets? £190+ per ticket is a little excessive.

Posted by: SweetCandy 9th March 2015, 05:18 PM

MDNA for Birmingham (the only indoor UK show) was £175 plus booking fee (which I can't remember how much but must of been close to £190).

The Paris show on December 9th sold out in 42 minutes today.

Posted by: HausofFrasier 9th March 2015, 05:27 PM

Right i am very worried now, because i will be busy until the evening. So i am likely to be missing out on a ticket despite getting this early pass? :/

Posted by: SweetCandy 9th March 2015, 07:31 PM

It depends how many tickets they are selling I guess (or allowed to sell on pre sales).

Posted by: HausofFrasier 9th March 2015, 09:30 PM

I have asked someone off this site (Joseph) to get a ticket for me as i will be unable to, so fingers crossed.

Good luck to everyone trying to get them!

Posted by: SweetCandy 11th March 2015, 05:53 PM

Second Amsterdam & Paris show added for December 6th & 10th.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 19th March 2015, 10:01 AM

So, after much deliberation about where I would be going, I've ended up bagging standing tickets for the second Amsterdam gig *.*

Posted by: SweetCandy 20th March 2015, 04:56 AM

Congrats.

Posted by: jark 20th March 2015, 12:07 PM

I'm also going to Amsterdam. What a coincidence!

It's my first time seeing her live, trés excited.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 20th March 2015, 04:07 PM

Oh, I'm suddenly double booked that weekend

Posted by: liamk97 20th March 2015, 04:37 PM

Is seeing Madonna more important? Yes or Yes?

There's nothing worse than double booking, especially if you're someone who rarely goes out! tongue.gif

Posted by: Simon. 20th March 2015, 06:24 PM

I've asked work for free tickets so fingers crossed wub.gif

Updated the first post to suit the changes.

I suppose this is a rumour that props up every time she plans to go on tour, but DrownedMadonna.com are saying Madonna's expected to reveal Australian dates for her Rebel Heart Tour on 9th June. This is the first time since The Girlie Show World Tour that she's toured there. http://drownedmadonna.com/madonnas-rebel-heart-tour-australian-dates-to-be-announced-next-week/20150603

Madonna will be performing in Sydney, Australia on 19th and 20th of March. She'll also bring her tour to New Zealand for the first time ever.

Posted by: liamk97 20th July 2015, 01:57 PM

Diplo will be opening the tour on September 9th and 10th. Plus another tour date: Manila, Philippines on 24th February.

Pole dancing nuns? Thats just offensive.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 30th July 2015, 12:25 PM

I'm just not sure what statement she's trying to portray. I'm not one to judge... But it sounds like a desperate attempt to grab headlines.

Madonna has always loved a paradox !

Starting today, yay! cheer.gif

Four Tour Sections:

Joan Of Arc/Samurai; 1 Arianne Phillips took the reins of the first act — a Joan of Arc-inspired section similar to the Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott-lensed cover art of the “Rebel Heart” album — and devised a series of costumes referencing liturgical fabrics and a recent exhibition of samurai armor at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Dancing nuns on stripper poles also make an appearance during this act. It wouldn’t be a Madonna show otherwise.

Rockabilly Meets Tokyo; 2 Miuccia Prada, who created original Prada and Miu Miu footwear for previous tours, was asked to design costumes as well this time around for the show’s second section. Her response? Rockabilly meets Tokyo.

Latin/Gypsy; 3 It’s in the third act, the Latin quarter if you will, that things get really twisted. Fausto Puglisi, Gucci‘s Alessandro Michele and the Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran created more of the same matador-inspired looks that appeared in the music video and live performances of single “Living for Love.” Michele imagines Madonna in full-blown “La Isla Bonita” mode, a mysterious gypsy wrapped in her fringed manila shawl, hiding behind her flamenco hat, lace and jacquard bodysuit and multicolor skirt.

Party; 4 To end things with a bang, Madonna enlisted Moschino‘s Jeremy Scott, fashion’s resident club kid, for the party section. She has worked with Scott intermittently since the early Aughts, but perhaps picking up on his ascendance in the public eye since his appointment at Moschino — not to mention his relationship with Miley Cyrus, et al — she brought him back into her orbit to work recently on several high-profile looks, including ones for her “Bitch I’m Madonna” music video.

Scott’s mandate was to come up with an homage to Harlem-flapper-meets-Paris-in-the-Twenties and several weeks after their joint appearance at the Costume Institute gala, he had the look: a blinding finale dress employing thousands of Swarovski crystals because, Scott says, “no showgirl would be complete without crystals.”

Apparent tracking list which matches what someone apparently heard at the final rehearsal:

Personally hoping it is a fake given there's no 'Joan of Arc', 'Inside Out' or 'Wash All Over Me'. Plus 'True Blue' doesn't sound likely. 'Deeper and Deeper' is a big yay though.

Also, costume designs:

ohmy.gif Oh yes! I missed that one, will be interesting to see whether she can hit that grittiness of the original still.

Posted by: HausEveryWeekend 10th September 2015, 06:57 AM

The setlist is bad sad.gif meh it'll be enough just to be in the same room as her I suppose but I'd still want a few alterations come December..

Posted by: J▼hnkm 10th September 2015, 08:37 AM

The setlist is a JOKE. To have a Joan of Arc section AND NOT DO THE SONG. To drop the incredible Ghosttown yet have Holy Water, Bitch, Illuminati (even if it is just an interlude) and Unapologetic Bitch. f*** OFF MADGE.

Even worse is finishing on Holiday? I guess I can get home nice and early. Yes I am VERY VERY happy at Deeper and Deeper and True Blue and Love Don't Live Here and the medley, but I really hope between now and December she adds in at least Ghosttown. She doesn't often change though, so ugh.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 10th September 2015, 11:49 AM

Wheres JOA? Lol.

Posted by: liamk97 10th September 2015, 11:55 AM

^As if she's dropped 'Ghosttown'! ohmy.gif Silly decision given its been the most successful song overall in the campaign. So much for it being one of her favourites too. I suppose the set-list may feel better when we see the performances but there's only a few "yay" song choices and I'm bitterly disappointed at three of the best Rebel Heart tracks (Joan of Arc', 'Inside Out' or 'Wash All Over Me') being ignored.

Full set-list from last night's show:

QUOTE
1. 'Iconic'
2. 'Bitch I'm Madonna '
3. 'Burning Up '
4. 'Holy Water / Vogue'
5. 'Devil Pray'
6. 'Messiah'
7. 'Body Shop '
8. 'True Blue' (Acoustic)
9. 'Deeper and Deeper '
10. 'HeartBreakCity' / 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore'
11. 'Like a Virgin'
12. 'S.E.X. (Justify My Love insert)'
13. 'Living for Love' (Offer Nissim Living For Drums Remix)
14. 'La Isla Bonita'
15. 'Dress You Up' / 'Into The Groove' / 'Everybody' / 'Lucky Star'
16. 'Who's That Girl' (Acoustic)
17. 'Rebel Heart'
18. 'Illuminati'
19. 'Music'
20. 'Candy Shop'
21. 'Material Girl'
22. 'La Vie En Rose' (Édith Piaf cover)
23. 'Unapologetic Bitch'
24. 'Holiday'

Plenty of tour pictures here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3228790/Madonna-kicks-delayed-Rebel-Heart-tour-passionate-Canada.html Looking fantastic in some of them!

Posted by: J▼hnkm 10th September 2015, 12:44 PM

Ok, it LOOKS good and she looks good too, so that's a little better and I kind of managed to miss her doing Who's That Girl before (even if Causing A Commotion would be much better). I guess I always knew it was going to be a bit more MISS regarding the Rebel Heart tracks anyway, we just happened to have it lucky with the last 3 tours really.

Posted by: liamk97 10th September 2015, 01:13 PM

Good reviews so far: http://montrealgazette.com/entertainment/music/concert-review-madonnas-rebel-heart-tour-starts-beating-at-the-bell-centre http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/madonna-rebel-heart-tour-shows-singer-blast-article-1.2354738

Been noted that Madonna was noticeably smiley in this tour which is really great to hear. Her smiling her way through the Grammy performance of 'Living for Love' really put the song on a different level. Need to hear the jazz version of 'Music', acoustic version of 'Who's That Girl?' and 'Rebel Heart'!

Posted by: J▲hq 10th September 2015, 02:53 PM

Very disappointed that Ghosttown isn't on there, it's one of my very favourites from her and considering it's a single from the current era...

Wish there was at least one of Hung Up/Sorry/Jump/Like a Prayer on there too or something (this will be my first Madonna tour so no idea what she's normally like when it comes to including the classics / hits). Oh well, La Isla Bonita and Material Girl should cover me fine in that regard.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 10th September 2015, 05:05 PM

She's abysmal at including classics and or hits. Music has been wheeled out without fail though, which is an even bigger insult. Generally IF she does include it (at least on the last 3 tours) it's in such a bast*rdised format it's basically a totally new song or mashed up with something truly awful. OR BOTH.

Posted by: vibe 10th September 2015, 05:59 PM

Where the f*** is Ghosttown ? The best and most liked song on the album !
I'm hearing rumours that it will replace the French song outside of Canada and France ?

Joan of arc not in the Joan of arc section
Candy shop again .....
Burning up not needed

I love the inclusion of holiday, WTG and True Blue tho

I love the variations of 'Music' - the Disco Inferno mix on the Confessions Tour and 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit' mash-up on S&S Tour do both make the song totally brand new but in a truly fantastic way.

Who's going to see her on one of the UK dates? I'm actually considering it after my mum kind of casually suggested it in the car tonight.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 10th September 2015, 10:59 PM

I am NOT KEEN on the track at all anyway (I may have mentioned...) but the version of S&S was pretty good yeah. The Disco Inferno mix is just way too long, I have a fanmade edit somewhere which is like 3 minutes and it's great.

Posted by: liamk97 10th September 2015, 11:14 PM

Yeah, I was going to say, it's not a good start when you don't really like it in the first place! tongue.gif 'Music/Disco Inferno' is pretty lengthy but every second just, to use your favourite phrase, EXUDES JOY. The sample particularly so, and it sounds so much grander than it does in the original recording (obviously due to technology improving but still). I love the naff disco-fever dancing she does around the 4:30 mark too. Less "strike a pose" and more "get off my street".

Posted by: HausEveryWeekend 11th September 2015, 06:50 AM

Liam you must get tickets! ohmy.gif

I'm not upset at the tour missing out a lot of my fave songs/the classics i'm most upset at how little it seems to represent 'Rebel Heart' as an era which is all about her journey til now.

Granted it opens with that message loud and clear and I suppose the (frankly ODD) closing harks back to her initial stamp on the scene, but where is the pain from the LAP era, the ectasy from Confessions, the lessons she learnt during ROL and so on? The songs she's chosen from this album don't even sing and convey the album's message too well either.

Still 'Iconic' opening the show will be a MOMENT. What a song <3

Posted by: Mango 11th September 2015, 09:29 AM

To be fair she's got that many great songs in her catalogue that the set list is never going to contain all the classics people want. I'm as disappointed as everyone else at the exclusion of Ghosttown though.

Also, didn't she recently say she hates True Blue and she hasn't performed it on tour for over 20 years or something?

Posted by: J▼hnkm 11th September 2015, 09:41 AM

I'm not sure if she's said anything recently, but as True Blue was about her relationship with Sean and that ended...badly, she hasn't sang it since the WTG tour, no.

Posted by: Joe. 11th September 2015, 09:51 AM

I am surprised Like a Prayer/Hung Up are not on there - I'd say those are two she HAS to do on every tour, especially since the latter connects with her younger fan-base a lot more. She does have so many iconic songs, she needs to mix it up every time she tours because she has near enough 20 big classics so it's sad but fair that my fav Papa Don't Preach only makes it sometimes.

The omission of Ghosttown is baffling and unforgivable though! And I like Holiday, and I know it was her first ever megahit but I don't think it's a closer, I feel like she's made a good dozen more closing-worthy songs since Holiday.

SO tempted! Are you off?

That's a very good point, I didn't think of it like that but you're quite right. I've no doubt there's a theme/lesson/journey in regards to the tour but it doesn't seem to be matching that of the album.

I agree, it stuck out to me too that there was no proper big classic in the way 'Like a Prayer' and 'Hung Up' are. 'Vogue' is there but, from what I've gathered, it's only mashed up with 'Holy Water' opposed to being a grand performance full of choreography like in the past,

I was rather underwhelmed by 'Holiday' closing too, especially after the fantastic closers to the last three tours. It's a very joyous song but hearing her chant "Holidaaaaayyyy! Celebraaaate!" over and over again gets quite tiresome after a while, as the Re-Invention Tour proved.

I'd personally have liked 'Rebel Heart' to close the tour as it sums up the album best and one I think the crowd could really get behind and sing along to.

Interesting that they've added more dates when almost none are sold out as is. I say not sold out, knowing full well they all will be in the end anyway, even if it just means half the arena is closed off.

Posted by: liamk97 12th September 2015, 11:15 PM

^Unless they were planning on touring in these places anyway and just needed to sort things out before making it official.

Another date: Madonna's coming to Bangkok on February 9th.

Posted by: liamk97 13th September 2015, 01:16 PM

I keep watching clips of the opening night and what is pleasing to see is the amount of stripped back, intimate performances with good vocals to match. So touching to hear the crowd singing and clapping along, makes for a much more personal experiences opposed to just witnessing a theatrical performance. 'La Vie En Rose' and 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' are definite ones to watch - quality of audio isn't great in the latter but, from what I can gather, she succeeds in hitting the raw but strong notes of the 80s version.

4 posts in a row, I know, but more Asian dates added:

February 4 - Taipei, Taipei Arena
February 13 - Tokyo, Saitama Arena

February 20 - Macau, Studio City Event Center

What's a "small date"? They're all full size arenas. She also added:

Jan. 06 - Mexico City, MX - Sports Palace - Details to follow
Jan. 10 - San Antonio, TX - AT&T Center - On Sale Sept 21
Jan. 12 - Houston, TX - Toyota Center - On Sale Sept 21
Jan. 14 - Tulsa, OK - BOK Center - On Sale Sept 21
Jan. 16 - Louisville, KY - KFC Yum! Center - On Sale Sept 21
Jan. 18 - Nashville, TN - Bridgestone Arena - On Sale Sept 21
Feb. 09 - Bangkok, Thailand - Impact Arena - On Sale Oct. 3

But maybe they're small dates too? IDK. The AT&T Centre is a mere 19,000 capacity stadium, after all.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 15th September 2015, 09:53 PM

Sorry, I meant small in the sense that they aren't the kinds of place you imagine MADONNA to be playing. I mean MACAU is hardly a MUST STOP on any world tour, let alone for someone of her stature.

Yeah it's good, the venue sizes are obviously way down on the last 2 tours so we aren't going to be seeing the huge numbers like that again, but this is comfortably ahead of The Confessions Tour (which is the most relevant comparison). Obviously a lot of that is down to the vastly increased prices, but still she's doing well.

Posted by: liamk97 12th November 2015, 11:35 PM

Roughly counting up the first two months of the MDNA Tour (counting the first number of the millions), they account for over $72m. Like John says, the venue sizes are down (highest of the first two months of the MDNA Tour was 62,195 compared to Rebel Heart's highest of 28,371). All her tickets were sold, according to the Wiki table.

Posted by: Qween 13th November 2015, 08:38 AM

All her venues are always sold out, although that means nothing because few of them are at capacity.

Posted by: jark 9th December 2015, 11:29 PM

One of the very best concerts I've ever been to. Certainly a match for Kylie's X2008/Showgirl Homecoming and, if I'm honest, probably better. Probably.

Her vocals were utterly superb, much better than expected. She moved well, showcased her dancers excellently, the Rebel Heart tracks came alive and the older hits were all stunningly well reinvented, especially Like a Virgin. The Amsterdam crowd was so into it, there wasn't a dull moment. Best reception from the crowd as a whole probably went to La Isla Bonita, Deeper and Deeper, and Music. Fabulous finale in Holiday. The whole thing was just so joyous, I'm still on a high three days later.

Posted by: Qween 9th December 2015, 11:35 PM

I do not recall such an excellent reaction to Music, however I feel my own FURY at it being there might have clouded my judgement. I had genuinely convinced myself she wasn't doing it too.

Posted by: jark 15th December 2015, 09:37 AM

Well she didn't do that in Amsterdam because she only cut the '80s medley. I understand the frustration of fans to not see the likes of Unapologetic Bitch or Holiday performed because she couldn't get her ass on stage on time.

Posted by: Qween 15th December 2015, 10:19 AM

Agreed. Would've liked to see "Holiday" though.

I disagree that she came across like a brat, the booing wasn't needed and it was a video fault, I loved all the times she was talking to the audience.

Some of the choreography was incredible, I was amazed and the songs that I didn't recognise (by name or otherwise) were pretty good.

exactly what I've been wondering. surely it's just a given that she's gonna be a witch and slag off her own fans for booing. it's Madonna..

Posted by: Qween 16th December 2015, 01:46 PM

I certainly don't expect her to be nice, I mean she still told us all to f*** off/called everyone motherf***ers. That's fine, it's just the treating fans like shit thing I don't think is really right, superstar c**t or not.

Posted by: GingerbreadHaus 17th December 2015, 06:26 AM

SO I reached the venue and realised that somehow the ticket had fallen out of the back pocket of my jeans while walking there. All I had was the other slip of paper that comes with them and a screenshot of a snapchat I had sent earlier holding the ticket.

I got to one of the guards in flood of tears and hyperventilating. She managed to calm me down and hear my issue. I had to go to the box office and try to get a duplicate one printed which they managed to as mine hadn't been scanned yet. I got a massive hug (I'd started crying again when I got the ticket) and she told me to have the best night of my life...

Posted by: GingerbreadHaus 17th December 2015, 06:32 AM

Which I can safely say I DID. From the second I walked in the atmosphere was electric. When she came out and that absolutely incredible opening of 'Iconic' began I was in awe of her. Some of the choreography was unlike I'd anything I'd seem before and some of the stunts were insane and life threatening and I'm not sure how they pulled them off (talking mainly about the 'Illuminati' interlude). I loved the reworkings of the classics too <3 The strongest thing about the tour apart from her energy was the backing video. The various montages (my favourite probably being the 'Rebel Heart' one tracing her musical journey) we so incredible and I spent most of the time staring at that and not the action on stage!

She was everything I wanted her to be and more. It made me fully realise and *get* why she's the most successful female artist ever - she is totally fearless, strong-minded and powerful.

I cried throughout most of it especially 'Like A Prayer' which was a total moment but I mainly cried because I got to see her live. A totally brilliant and memorable night and I think it'd rank as the best one or at least the one I will talk about most in the future because it was so surreal and one I've been waiting for for ages. I went through every single emotion possible (including during the ticket fiasco) and each one was so intense. I love her more than ever right now I and I didn't think that was even possible for me. I am so glad I can say I've seen her live because she is the best we'll probably ever have.

I'm sure she'll still be able to! Some of the tricks and stunts from this tour I struggle to imagine some of the younger pop girls now pulling off so there is plenty of life in her yet. I would hope there's a big Greatest Hits Tour before she does decide to bow out. Imagine that! mellow.gif

Posted by: · jerusalina · 21st December 2015, 04:19 PM

The show was absolutely incredible. It just absolutely reaffirmed to me (much like Bal) why she's the longstanding entertainer that she's always been. It was an interesting experience for me because I'm not anywhere near familiar with Rebel Heart as an album really but the songs REALLY translated into a stage show and gave her a lot of room to create f***ing AMAZING visuals and routines ('Holy Water' and 'Illuminati' are kinda ech as actual songs despite them having really iconic bits but they go COMPLETELY OFF in the arena!!). Then of course you have sparse classics which made me go mental (La Isla Bonita? Music? Absolutely COMPLETELY sold and screamed them out off). And I know about the death-defying stunt Bal was talking about, hunks in waistcoats THROWING themselves into the audience off of bendy poles was like WOT.

Because I was quite far back I did switch from the stage to the screen quite a lot but I found myself doing what Bal did too and at Rebel Heart literally couldn't take my eyes off of that montage!!! We also got amazing personable Madonna moments, and 'Ghost Town' was wonderful to see considering it's Rolling Stone status which she seemed super proud of. After going to see the song I got a new appreciation for Rebel Heart that wasn't there before because it is totally a package deal - the songs AREN'T just the songs and it convinced me that she does everything with the bigger picture in mind, especially the tour - and why shouldn't she? She definitely puts on the best show and that's pretty much just fact at this point.

I will say tho we had the weirdest encore of all-time, she did Holiday but the arena lights had come up and the sound / her audio weren't working so the whole arena just had to sing it for her as she went through this marvellous routine. It was quite a bizarre end but all-in-all I absolutely loved it.

She had a small article in the Metro today about them pulling the power laugh.gif Seems to be a disagreement in that she believes it was the venue doing it because of the curfew, but the venue is saying it was Madonna's own team that did it unsure.gif Still must have been an incredible feeling to have the entire stadium singing along rendering the power-loss meaningless.

'Holy Water' has been banned from being performed in Singapore :') It's being deemed as religiously sensitive oop.

The show has also been given an R18 rating, meaning only adult fans of the musician will be allowed to attend the concert.

More drama, this time in the Philippines drama.gif

QUOTE
The Philippines said Sunday it was looking to ban Madonna from performing in the country after the US pop diva “disrespected” the country’s flag during her concert in Manila last week.

Photos from the concert published in local media showed the 57-year-old “Like a Virgin” star draped in the Philippine flag.

While press reports said the audience roared its approval at the icon, who was in the country as part of her global “Rebel Heart” tour, Filipino officials were less amused.

“Malacañang is keen on banning Grammy award winner and Queen of Pop Madonna from performing in the Philippines for disrespecting the Philippine flag in her concert,” presidential spokesman Herminio Coloma told AFP.

A 1998 law prescribes a one-year jail term, as well as a token fine for, wearing the Philippine flag “in whole or in part as a costume or uniform”.

The flag flap was the second controversy provoked by Madonna’s visit to the devoutly Catholic Asian nation.

A Catholic bishop last week called on the faithful to stay away from Madonna’s sexually charged concerts, which often encompass religious themes, calling them the devil’s work. Arguelles said the concerts, Madonna’s first in the Philippines, were among “subtle attacks of the evil one.”

During her Manila shows, Madonna gyrated round a stripper pole shaped like a crucifix, accompanied by dancers dressed as scantily clad nuns.

The controversial star didn’t forget the less fortunate on her Philippine trip however, tweeting photos showing her visiting children at an orphanage run by nuns in the capital.

Lol.

A year since I ordered my Rebel Heart Tour tickets. Can still remember my feelings and stress that day and then the total ecstasy when it was successful <3

Madonna performed 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' on stage. *.*

Kylie thanked Madonna in a tweet for covering her, to which Madonna responded on her Facebook by calling out for Kylie to appear on one of her Sydney dates.

Also, I'm sure we've all heard about boob-gate today?

Posted by: Regina 18th March 2016, 11:53 AM

Oh how she called a woman on stage and whipped said woman's boobs out? laugh.gif

Posted by: liamk97 18th March 2016, 11:55 AM

That's the one! laugh.gif She did apologise and the girl in question said there was no hard feelings, so I don't see why everyone is offended on her behalf?

Sadly people love SOMETHING to be offended by, to show they're moral upstanding citizens.

I'd seriously love for Kylie to appear at the show. Go on Kylie, do it!

Precisley. Exact same happened with the Drake kiss too.

It would be a spectacular end to the tour if she did appear. G'won Kylie!

Ahh ok fab! (at the fact she's doing one - I can wait, I just need to make sure we actually get one tongue.gif).

Do we have the full setlist for these shows then? Hope they're not too different from the one I went too unsure.gif

The tour has grossed $169.8m 1,045,479 tickets sold at 82 performances, according to Billboard. It puts her overall concert grosses (since 1990 I think) at $1.31bn, which puts her third behind The Rolling Stones ($1.84bn) and U2 ($1.67bn). http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7271843/madonna-extends-record-highest-grossing-solo-touring-artist?utm_source=twitter

Posted by: Qween 25th March 2016, 03:07 PM

That's not a great result to be honest, the last two were obviously stadium tours so there's no real, fair, comparison, but Confessions had 60 shows in 2006 at similarly sized venues (around 100,000 more attendee's) yet in 2016 dollars it grossed $223M. Obviously she's done well, but that's a worrying sign for the future.

Posted by: vibe 25th March 2016, 05:03 PM

Confessions was not in similar size venues in the states .

Posted by: Qween 25th March 2016, 11:08 PM

Well, total attendance was 10% higher either way, but the gross was way more than 10% higher.

I'm not even quite sure what point I'm trying to make really, other than it would seem EVERY aspect of her stock is at a low.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 26th March 2016, 01:26 PM

Really not sure what point you're making either. It's pretty obvious her star isn't burning as bright as before, you're just stating the obvious and trying to dampen the success of the tour. smile.gif

Posted by: jark 26th March 2016, 05:57 PM

LOL john I think you're talking out of your derriere on this one. That tour figure is fantastic. Tickets were significantly cheaper in most of Europe which is why the gross is lower.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 12th April 2016, 05:35 PM

Madonna has been nominated for the 2016 Billboard Music Awards (Top Touring Artists). Award ceremony takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 22.

Top Touring Artist nominees:
Madonna
One Direction
The Rolling Stones
Taylor Swift
U2

Posted by: liamk97 17th April 2016, 01:32 PM

Is it panel or public voted? I have a feeling Taylor Swift will win but of course I'd love Madonna to do so with what has been a highly praised tour.

Posted by: Qween 17th April 2016, 02:50 PM

I'd imagine it's in terms of box office gross, given U2, The Rolling Stones and Madonna seem a little too AGED to be nominated otherwise. Though of course the age limits on COCK ROCK don't really apply.

Exclusive info on Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour DVD premiere

EXCLUSIVE NEWS – We at DrownedMadonna.com are happy to share with all Madonna‘s fans some juicy information that we learnt regarding the concert film of the Rebel Heart Tour and its premiere on Showtime on Dec. 9.

We are trying to satisfy your curiosity and clear doubts, but without spoiling the surprise. We apology for the slowless and malfunction of our site. We have to move it soon to a new server, which will make it very fast. Unfortunately, it is very expensive. That’s why we call for your help. But let’s get right to the point now!

We realised that many of you are wondering if it is a documentary. So lets start with this….

No, it is not a documentary. It is a concert film, which will include some behind the scenes footage as well.

But how long is the Rebel Heart Tour film?

We can reveal that the movie is 2 hours long.

The teaser of the Rebel Heart Tour premiere on Showtime is in black & white. Is the Rebel Heart Tour filmed in black & white as well?

No, we can tell you that Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour film is in very vibrant colour. Some black & white will be seen in the film though.

We already know that people in the USA can watch the premiere of Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour film on Showtime. We have been told that it will be available on-air, online and on demand in the US and all Showtime’s partners. But what about the rest of the world?

DrownedMadonna.com has learnt that the Rebel Heart Tour will be available in Canada through Bell Media. While, other territories around the world and other platforms still have to be decided.

Finally, we want to point out that every DVD covers and promotional banners that you may see online at the moment are absolutely fake.

We also remind you what we posted a few days ago. The DVD of the Rebel Heart Tour is not expected to be released before the end of 2016, according to what we heard from Madonna’s Italian label.

Are you excited to watch the premiere of the Rebel Heart Tour on December 9 on Showtime? We can not wait any longer!

Not long to go!

Posted by: vibe 7th December 2016, 07:25 AM

I'm so disappointed with the rebel heart clip that has been released by tidal and showtime.
It is far to choppy and over edited so it doesn't look like a live experience. Rebel heart was a real
Intimate moment and now this is completely lost.
The vocals are horrid too , so not how it sounded at the concert.

Official Showtime Trailer:

Hearing 'Iconic' at the end reminds me how excited I am to hear it and the whole opening sequence in general in super good quality! heart.gif

Posted by: vibe 8th December 2016, 01:21 PM

The trailer looks incredible

Posted by: Qween 8th December 2016, 04:14 PM

Visually - amazing, but those vocals are LUDICROUS. I thought the MDNA tour would be as bad as the vocal reworking got, but that bares little resemblance at all to what she actually sounded like. I'm not expecting it to be RAW (either sticky OR sweet), but something along the lines of Confessions would have been much more sensible.

Posted by: vibe 8th December 2016, 08:35 PM

That's why I live drowned world so much , real vocals.

Posted by: Qween 8th December 2016, 10:25 PM

Thing is she actually did sound quite good on the tour, so the ridiculous post production on her voice is even more unnecessary.

Posted by: HausofBallBalls 10th December 2016, 10:55 PM

Any updates on this / anyone watched it yet? Apparently the 'Iconic' opening is edited? sad.gif Praying it keeps its magic.

Posted by: liamk97 11th December 2016, 12:37 PM

I've not heard anything yet, but I hope not too!

As for the vocal editing, I think I've just come to expect that as part and parcel these days. I agree that the vocals were generally great on the tour (I remember they received high praise from critics too) so it's not necessary to completely alter them.

I seem to recall the MDNA Tour vocals would have needed all the aid they could get, based on some (albeit low quality) videos I've seen of that tour.

Posted by: vibe 11th December 2016, 08:43 PM

So the show is all over the net !! I have watched it twice !!

She looks incredible and so happy through this tour .

It's edited so much better than MDNA DVD !!

From AXS:

QUOTE
Madonna has been one of the biggest stars on the planet for over 30 years now and in her new Showtime special “Madonna: Rebel Heart Tour”, she treats her fans to a two hour musical fever dream that encapsulates her entire career.

Unlike her previous documentaries “Truth or Dare” and “I’m Going To Tell You A Secret,” there’s almost no verte-style behind-the-scenes segments, putting the focus squarely on her performance. That’s a smart choice because a Madonna show is a ridiculously entertaining spectacle. With a huge troupe of talented backup dancers, a steady rotation of costume and set changes and more phallic symbols than a hot dog factory, “Madonna: Rebel Heart Tour” is an up close look at one of the most outlandish tours in recent memory, making it a must-watch for all fans, even those who caught the concert in person. Here’s a preview of the special’s five most “Madonna” moments:

Crucifix pole dancing on “Holy Water”
Blasphemy has always be a big part of Madonna’s persona (right down to her name) and there’s no shortage of creative heresy in the new special. Turning a religious symbol into a totem for sexual liberation is just about the most Madonna thing ever. Did we mention her dancers are wearing a nun coif?

Madonna the jazz chanteuse
Throughout “Rebel Heart,” Madonna revisits her myriad personas, from bullfighter to military commander. But her infatuation with the classic jazz singers of old is sometimes overlooked and during the special, she revisits jazzy Madonna during a number of songs, culminating in a sweet tribute to Edith Piaf on a cover of “La Vie en Rose.”

In-bed choreography on “S.E.X.”
It wouldn’t be a Madonna show with some serious sexual provocation and in one of the special’s naughtiest bits, her dancers — all of whom are absolutely amazing throughout — pair off for some over-the-covers action on “S.E.X.” Needless to say, you may want to put the kids in bed before turning on this concert film.

Madonna the rockstar
One of the best elements of “Madonna: Rebel Heart Tour” is the new arrangements of her old classics. She turns “True Blue” into a tender ukulele ballad, “Music” into a cool jazz standard and “Material Girl” into a skittering dubstep banger. But the most interesting transformation comes early, when she flips her early hit “Burnin Up” into a full on power rock song, complete with a V-neck guitar. We’ve always known she rocks, but never like this.

Unapologetic celebrity
There’s always been a larger-than-life quality to Madonna and she’s one of the few performers who could command such a production with poise. Near the end of the special, there’s a montage of the many famous friends she brought on stage during “Unapologetic Bitch” and the guest list — from Katy Perry and Ariana Grande to Amy Schumer and Idris Elba — drives home her celebrity status. In an era when social media has dragged our pop stars back down to earth, it’s refreshing to see such unapologetic grandeur.

One year since I went! Still remember it clearly - reaching the venue and realising I'd dropped my ticket somewhere, bursting into tears, hyperventilating... the security calmed me down and printed a duplicate ticket as my original hadn't been scanned. She gave me a huge hug and told me to have the night of my life. What a moment of my life :'(((

Good news: we finally have a date set for the Tour DVD release!

Bad news: it seems like it'll be released on her birthday - over 5 months away.

I want the full tour , including heartbreak city and love don't live here anymore.

Posted by: liamk97 9th March 2017, 12:02 AM

I assume there will be a CD to accompany the DVD and I hope that's the full tour too. It annoys me that both the Confessions and Sticky & Sweet Tour CDs were 'highlights' (I put in inverted commas because they miss out some of the best) yet the MDNA one had the full set-list when I barely even like any of the renditions.

The package looks very promising .

Posted by: liamk97 14th May 2017, 11:54 AM

I do quite like the cover but it just annoys me how they're standing on nothing. Certainly not as bad photoshopping skills as those demonstrated in the covers for 'Ghosttown' and 'Bitch I'm Madonna' though.

Posted by: liamk97 28th May 2017, 01:24 PM

DrownedMadonna reveals that some details on the DVD have been announced, although they aren't necessarily set in stone. The DVD's running time is 138 minutes, which is apparently the same length as the Showtime broadcast and that had cut out 'Love Don’t Live Here Anymore'. Madonna is said to have explained that this was only cut off for the Showtime broadcast so hopefully it does appear on the DVD - it was certainly a tour highlight for me!

Posted by: vibe 29th May 2017, 08:41 AM

If that song is not on the DVD I will be fuming !

It was such a highlight of the tour .

Posted by: liamk97 3rd June 2017, 12:26 PM

It was great to hear that raw vocal style that doesn't seem to be present in her singing very much nowadays. Would be gutted if it was cut.

MADONNA: REBEL HEART TOUR
LIVE DVD, BLU-RAY & DIGITAL CONCERT FILM TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 15 WITH CONCERT ALBUM

MADONNA has announced that her record-breaking MADONNA: REBEL HEART TOUR will be released by Eagle Vision on September 15 on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray complete with bonus content, and an audio CD of highlights from her much-heralded tour.

The Material Girl will also release a live album featuring 22 songs from the Rebel Heart Tour, available on double CD and digital download.

The MADONNA: REBEL HEART TOUR film was recorded around the world and features both live and behind the scenes material, as well as previously unreleased footage culminating with performances at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia in March of 2016. MADONNA: REBEL HEART TOUR is co-directed by Danny Tull and Nathan Rissman, both of whom have worked extensively with Madonna on her feature films and tour movies. A version of the film previously debuted on Showtime in December 2016.

The tracklist for MADONNA: REBEL HEART TOUR film and live concert album span all decades of the iconic superstar’s illustrious career, including songs from her chart-topping Rebel Heart album to classic fan favorites. Of particular note to longtime fans will be the new interpretations of some of Madonna’s timeless hits.

Praise includes: Madonna is Unstoppable (New York Times); Doesn’t Miss a Beat (Washington Post); the Queen of Pop…an inspirational figure (LA Weekly); the ultimate professional (Entertainment Weekly); on fire (Rolling Stone); an authoritative diva far from the end of her reign (Time Out New York); the genre’s greatest icon (Boston Herald); immeasurable (Detroit News); Queen of the World (Willamette Week); bigger, if not better than ever (San Diego Union-Tribune).

Produced by Live Nation Global Touring, the Rebel Heart Tour kicked off on September 9, 2015 in Montreal and visited arenas in 55 cities on four continents over seven months. Madonna performed 82 shows, plus the special “Tears Of A Clown” fan club show in Melbourne. The tour grossed $169.8 Million with 1,045,479 in attendance, making her the top grossing touring female artist in the history of Billboard Boxscore with over $1.31 billion in ticket sales sold over the course of her career. Madonna is also the fourth top grossing touring act since tracking began in 1990.

The Rebel Heart Tour was directed by Jamie King with musical direction by Kevin Antunes (with band keyboardist Ric’key Pageot, drummer Brian Frasier-Moore, guitarist Monte Pittman, and background vocalists Kiley Dean and Nicki Richards), lead choreography by Megan Lawson, hair by Andy LeCompte, makeup by Aaron Henrikson, and costume design by Arianne Phillips.

Still not sure on the tracking list. sad.gif The CD has 22 tracks and the setlist has 25 songs/performances but it's the actual DVD tracking list I'm more concerned about - they simply cannot cut 'Love Don’t Live Here Anymore' if previous rumours are to be believed. sad.gif

Okay so I was about to lose my shit at 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' not being there BUT the ever reliable Wiki does say 'HeartBreakCity' contains excerpts of 'Love...' so HOPEFULLY it will still be there. Looks like just 'Lucky Star' from the 'Dress You Up'/'Into the Groove' section and 'Who's That Girl?' is missing.

The double CD looks like it only gets rid of the interludes which is fine for a CD.

I'm only buying if Love is on it !!!

Def buying the double cd album tho.

Hmm the material girl audio isn't doing it for me .
Weird choice of performance to use to promote the DVD.

Posted by: Johnkm 18th August 2017, 09:05 PM

I don't know QUITE WHY, but I am continually shocked by how BADLY she/her people manage to gauge these things. Waiting two years is bad enough, but then only releasing about 90% of the concert and omitting the OBVIOUS FAN FAVES when ONLY THE FANS will be buying it anyway just smacks of ineptitude.

Posted by: liamk97 18th August 2017, 09:26 PM

Absolutely. I don't know who the responsibility lies with, perhaps it's equally balanced between her and her management, but it's a bit of pisstake that fans are rarely repaid for their dedication. I feel like this goes back to the Hard Candy era which was almost 9 years ago.

Things did seem like they were picking up when we got actual promotion during the beginning of the Rebel Heart era after f*** all for MDNA and of course getting the sublime 'Ghosttown' and its video, but there does seem to still be issues with showing appreciation for fans.

Posted by: Johnkm 18th August 2017, 11:13 PM

She gave us Ghosttown AND THEN LEFT IT OUT OF THE TOUR. It's like she gets off on being withholding.

At least we got 'Candy Shop' and 'Holiday' for the 100th time. Har har.

Madonna: 'I want to reinvent pop tours'
By Mark Savage | BBC Music reporter | 3 hours ago

Twenty-seven years ago, Madonna set the template for modern pop concerts with her Blond Ambition world tour.

From its hydraulic stage to Jean-Paul Gaultier's iconic costumes, it raised the bar for stadium-sized spectacle.

Now, after seven huge world tours, the star tells the BBC she's "exploring" a smaller-scale show in the future.

"I've done so many shows - world tours, stadiums, sports arenas, you name it - that I feel like I have to reinvent that now too," she explains.

"I like doing intimate shows and being able to talk directly to the audience.

"This is something I'm exploring right now: the idea of doing a show that doesn't travel the world, but stays in one place and utilises not only humour and the music in a more intimate setting but other people's music, as well, and other entertainment.

"Kind of a revolving door of amazing, gifted, unique talent - dancers, musicians, singers, comedians, me, humour. I don't know! Like, I'm trying to come up with all those ideas now."

The concerts will presumably owe much to the vaudeville-style Tears of a Clown show that Madonna performed twice in 2016 - once as a gift to fans in Australia, and again at a fundraiser for her Raising Malawi charity.

The low-key gigs featured the pop icon dressed as a clown, riding a tricycle, chatting to the audience and telling jokes when not performing stripped-back renditions of some of her favourite songs.

Footage of the Australian concert appears on the star's new DVD, released on Friday, which documents her 2015-16 Rebel Heart Tour.

In an exclusive interview with BBC News, she talked about touring life, changing attitudes to sex, and her recent dispute with a courier company...

Before we start, there's one thing I need to know: Did your FedEx package ever arrive?
Ha ha! Yes, it has. FedEx is blaming customs, customs is blaming FedEx and we'll never know what happened. But I have it now.

So, I saw the Rebel Heart tour when you were in London and the DVD does a really good job of capturing what it was like to be in the audience. How do you go about that?
I was there every step of the way, every day for months and months. It's really hard to capture the true feeling of the excitement and the passion and the heat and the blood, sweat and tears. I'm pleased with the way it came out.

There's a particularly touching sequence during True Blue, where everybody in the audience embraces each other.
I know, it's a very sweet, emotional moment in the show. I didn't expect it to be, but when I look back at the DVD it almost brings a tear to my eye because everyone seems so in love.

How do you put a show like this together? Where do you get the ideas?
Everything's based around my song choice. So first, I go through my catalogue of songs with my band and I start working on things that excite me and inspire me in the moment. Some songs I'm sick of doing and I don't want to do them. Other songs I say, "No, I did that on the last tour, I don't want to do it again."

So I try to rotate things and I also try to reflect my current mood and what I've been feeling, and what's been inspiring me artistically or filmically, politically, philosophically. I try to put songs together in groups that have thematic connection, and then I try to tell a story. And then I do the visuals. It's quite a process.

What are the songs you don't want to do again?
Well, I tend to not want to do the songs I did on the tour before. That's what I mean. So if I did Material Girl on the tour before, or Express Yourself on the tour before, then I'll say, "OK, I did that for 88 shows. I can't do it again."

How do you keep a healthy balance between new songs and your back catalogue?
It's just playing in rehearsal. It's really hard for me, especially with my older songs, to do them with the original arrangement. Because 33 years later, after doing it for so long, you just have to reinvent things. Well, I do.

And it's fun for me to take an '80s pop song and turn it into a salsa song, or turn it into a samba, or make an uptempo song into a ballad.

The overarching theme of the tour was being a rebel. In the intro you say, "when fascist dictators come for you dressed as righteous men" you have to rise up and take a stand.

If you were doing the tour against the current political backdrop, would that message feel more relevant?

Yeah, I created that voiceover for my short film Secret Project,. I feel like it was a foreshadowing of things to come, like a prophecy.

You felt something in the air?
I did then - and I think people all thought I was being a little bit dramatic and extreme, but I felt like I was witnessing the beginning of it on the tour previous [to Rebel Heart]. And, of course, look what's happening in the world right now. It's pretty crazy.

Twenty-seven years ago, the Pope tried to get one of your shows banned. Now you have pole-dancing nuns and nobody bats an eyelid. Is that progress?
Is it progress? Well, I guess in some ways you could call that progress. When I released my Sex book, the idea of someone being scantily-clad on the street was an outrage. But look at social media today and it's nothing.

People get used to things, but I wouldn't call that progress. What I think of as progress is people becoming more open-minded, and people understanding the difference between art and exploitation.

When I was banned by the Pope, I was playing with the ideas of religion and sexuality, which are usually kept completely apart. Sex is considered a sin in the Catholic church. And I was questioning that and challenging that point of view because I don't, obviously, agree with it.

So now that no one's batting an eyelash about nuns on the stripper poles, it doesn't mean that the Vatican or the Catholic church is soul-searching or investigating whether they made the right choices. I don't think people are thinking that maybe sexuality and God don't need to be separate. That, to me, would be progress.

The DVD also includes the Tears of a Clown show you did in Melbourne. Was that a one-off or a trial run for a different type of Madonna concert?
I like doing intimate shows and being able to talk directly to the audience; to play with them and use humour and pathos and truth, and share my life - and also make up stories. I like the freedom of it and I like the intimacy of it, and I would like to explore doing it more in the future.

Maybe a residency?
Yeah, a residency. If I look back at the Rebel Heart tour, my favourite [part] was really the last section where I got to just sit on the stage and play my ukulele and sing La Vie en Rose and talk to the audience. [It was] just more intimate. More audience participation and connecting to human beings - I feel I'm craving that more and more.

Did it feel like there was more room for improvisation in that section?
Yeah, I have freedom and I can make mistakes. That's another thing I do in Tears of a Clown - if I start a song off wrong and I make a boo-boo, I just turn around and go "Stop! Let's start again!"

When you're doing a sports arena show, you're linked up to video, you can't stop. Once the train leaves the station, you have to keep going.
There's a certain kind of adrenalin rush to that - but there's no room for error. So I like the idea of mistakes and freestyling. Free-falling, really. It's more exciting to me right now.

NOLAN FEENEY•@NOLANFEENEYPOSTED ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2017 AT 9:01AM EDT

Whether she’s riding a sexy nun like a human surfboard (as one does) or performing stripped-down versions of old hits, no one entertains — or provokes — like Madonna. That much is clear from her Rebel Heart Tour concert film and live album combo, out now, which documents her 2015-16 world tour along with behind-the-scenes footage. But who knows when fans might next get a chance to see her gyrate in front of massive video screens or outdo herself with elaborate costume changes. The Material Girl says she’s pushed arena shows to the limit and is now thinking of developing a smaller, more intimate kind of show. “It’s time for me to take a different approach and really get back down to the beauty and simplicity of music and lyrics,” she tells EW. Below, the 59-year-old looks back on the Rebel Heart Tour’s prescient political messages, dishes on her post-show routines, and gives a tight-lipped (but exciting!) progress report on new music.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This tour opened with ominous video footage of you saying, “When those fascist dictators posing as righteous men come for you…. be prepared to fight for what you believe in.” You recorded that in 2015, but it feels especially timely now.
Madonna: Yeah, people should listen to me! [Laughs]

When you look at the state of the world in 2017, do you think I told you so, or are you surprised about where we find ourselves?
No, I’m not surprised at all. I was already witnessing it on the previous tour: The winds were changing, and people were becoming more and more fearful and marginalized. I thought we were going backwards on a lot of the progress that we’ve made as the human race. So cut to my Rebel Heart Tour and then the election and then what’s happened in the rest of the world — of course I’m saying I predicted it. I’m sure I’m not the only one. A lot of people have been talking about it and trying to call attention to it. But people just want to hear good news, or they want to be distracted. So yes, I did feel like I was warning people.

What role do you think concerts should play in this political climate? Should they be two hours of escapism? Should they feel like rallies or protests?
I can’t speak for other artists, I can only speak for myself. My role obviously is to entertain, but I’m not going to entertain without being provocative. I’m not going to entertain without sharing my point of view, without reflecting what’s going on in the world. That just wouldn’t be me.

There’s a clip of you telling your dancers that doing this show was like going to war every night. What made this tour such a battle? Most reviews noted how much fun you seemed to be having on stage.
When I say war, it’s just what you have to go through every night to do this show. It’s physically a very demanding show. There’s a lot of moving parts going on backstage and underneath the stage. Everyone has to be super organized and vigilant. There’s no room for error. There are 30 seconds to change. You’re passing people under the stage, there are lifts going up and down. There’s a lot of dangerous stuff happening, and you have to fight through all of that and fight your fatigue or whatever personal issues you might be having that evening and get out there. It’s showtime! No matter what’s going on, you have to push through it and be a warrior. Sometimes you’re playing in venues where there’s no air, where people are smoking. There are always challenges. Couple that with your own personal issues — you don’t feel well, you’re sick, one of your dancers is injured. When you do live shows, you never know what can happen, so you do have to have that warrior-going-into-battle mentality. No matter what, you just keep going.

That’s intense. How long does it take you to come down from that?
I need about 20 minutes to cool down and go to my dressing room or my hotel room. I do vocal cool-downs. I drink tea for my throat. And I have to wait 20 minutes for the ringing in my ears to go away. Then I come back down to earth. After that, I like to have dinner and socialize in a small way. On tour, it’s too demanding — I can’t go out and party or drink or be crazy. That’s for everybody else. I’m the only one that doesn’t have fun on tour. I don’t want to be alone. Sometimes I get treatments: I get a massage or shiatsu or acupuncture. I watch films — things that get me out of my head and stop worrying. I tend to fixate on mistakes that were made or technical problems that happened. It takes me a couple of hours to unwind.

Rebel Heart, your 13th studio album, featured some of your most vulnerable material in years. Did it feel like you were baring your soul on stage at times with this tour?
I’m not really conscious of it. Sometimes I’m in the mood to share my inner feelings and I’m aware that I’m doing it and feel like it’s the right time. And other times I feel like being more mysterious. I’ve been playing that balancing act for my entire career. A lot of the songs I write are meant to be ironic and not taken literally, and some are just straight-up, “Open my veins, this is who I am.”

My favorite moments from this DVD are when you’re performing with just a ukulele or a guitar. What’s it going to take for fans to get a stripped-down, small-venues-only acoustic Madonna tour?
Well, I would probably use other instruments, not just a guitar. I’m definitely thinking about experimenting with other musical genres right now and working with musicians from around the world to create a show that continues to involve music and dance [but also] poetry and humor, something on the intimate level of Tears of Clown [Madonna’s experimental theater show, which is included in the Rebel Heart Tour DVD]. There would be still some small production with lights, but much simpler and in a much smaller venue. I really like doing that.

As you brainstorm a new kind of show, are you also thinking about recording new music and what’s next on that front?
Yes, I’m doing it all!

Can you share anything about what direction you want to go in?
No! [Laughs] I don’t want to give it away! I’m traveling the world right now and listening to lots of different music. I’m getting inspired by people and I’m just soaking things up right now. I feel like I’ve pushed the whole big-production arena tour to the max and done it the best that I could for such a long time. It’s time for me to take a different approach and really get back down to the beauty and simplicity of music and lyrics and intimacy.

Was there anything you haven’t been able to do in an arena show that you’ve wanted to try?
One thing I wanted but was always told was too expensive or too crazy or too dangerous was water. I always wanted water features, like rain or something. But [I was told], “If we’re outside doing a stadium tour, it’s too dangerous if there’s wind. And what if the wind pushes the water into the audience and everyone gets wet? We’re going to have insurance problems. And carrying water around with us is too complicated — too many trucks, too many airplanes, too expensive.” Water was something I always wanted to use in my shows but never did. Beyoncé used it in her last show [the Formation World Tour], but I think she had a lot of problems with it too. It’s good if you don’t move, if you’re stationary and everything is fixed. And if it’s indoors, of course.

Most of your tours have been recorded or broadcast in some capacity. With your past few records, you’ve been putting out these live DVDs almost like clockwork. Why is it important for you to create this archive?
Tours are art. It’s like documenting and archiving your artwork. It’s a record of something I created with a lot of great and talented people: from the musicians I work with to the costumes that are designed, to the songs being arranged in new and different ways, to the political statements I might be making. They’re stages of my career, and they tell a story. They’re an important part of my legacy, so I’m documenting them. There are tours I haven’t documented, and I regret that. I get a lot of s— from people: Why don’t we have a DVD of this, why don’t we have a DVD of that? I’m trying to be more vigilant and document things more than I actually would want to. To film shows is really complicated. It messes up the show. It takes days to film it completely. It takes me three to six months to edit it and mix it. It’s a lot of work, but I think it’s important.

When you watched the footage of this show, was there anything that stood out to you or surprised you that you didn’t notice when you were in the thick of it?
Yeah, I didn’t think some songs would be so moving or so fun to watch, like “True Blue.” It’s such a simple song. I’m playing the ukulele and just sitting there on stage, but I couldn’t see the audience as closely as the camera did. Then [while watching the footage] I see all these couples together and people kissing and hugging — a real feeling of love and connection — and that really moved me. That was a pleasant surprise.

You worked with some notable fresh talent on Rebel Heart, like rising hitmaker MNEK and a pre-Coloring Book Chance the Rapper. Who has your ear right now?
Well, as you know I moved to Lisbon, and I’ve been listening to a lot of music here, like fado, which is the music of Portugal. There’s such a cultural mix of people and music here. You could go out every night and hear different kinds of music. There’s a great jazz scene here. So right now I’m listening to a lot of local artists I’ve never heard of before, and that’s been really inspiring.

It's pleasing to hear she's interested in doing more intimate gigs. Madonna, of course, is fantastic at the big, theatrical performances but watching her sit down on stage performing acoustically to her lesser known or lesser used songs is so lovely and emotional.

Midweek #12. Obviously it'll fall during the week, but that's about 2k sold so far so it's on lock for the Top 40 and will easily outpeak the MDNA World Tour album (and will likely have already outsold its first week sales of 1,759).

Posted by: HausofSZA 18th September 2017, 06:25 PM

It's such a good listen! Glad it's going to make an impact on the top 40 biggrin.gif

Posted by: vibe 19th September 2017, 06:45 AM

Surprised it is selling better than MDNA , cd sales have seriously dropped since that release.

It's probably because the full show was released on CD with the full DVD.
You have to purchase rebel heart full cd and DVD separately .

Posted by: liamk97 19th September 2017, 08:13 AM

The sales for the DVD and CD of the MDNA Tour had a total of 7,358 on its first week when you combined the two, so that'll be a more equal comparison to make, assuming Music Week gives us sales for both.

Fingers crossed we get an updated total for the Rebel Heart album!

Posted by: liamk97 19th September 2017, 02:17 PM

#15 in the UK mids today. Sold 1,797 copies so far this week, including 152 copies yesterday.

#20 today

Posted by: liamk97 20th September 2017, 09:03 PM

Apparently Madonna only sold 8 copies yesterday?! laugh.gif The total now stands at 1,805 copies - surely there's something up there.

Posted by: liamk97 22nd September 2017, 10:03 PM

Debuted at #42, just missing out on the Top 40 position it looked certain to get. sad.gif There must have been some sort of stock issue towards the end for the album to be selling in single figures per day.

Although they have punctuated her career, live albums account for only one of Madonna's 21 Top 10 hits. The latest, Rebel Heart Tour - a keepsake for the tour that concentrated on her 2015 No.2 album Rebel Heart - debuts at No.42 (1,993 sales). Madonna's last live album, MDNA World Tour, reached No.55, and has sold 23,220 copies since its release four years ago.

It did beat the first week sales of the MDNA World Tour album (1,759). I'm guessing those total sales for that album combine both the CD and DVD.

Shame we didn't get a DVD total for Rebel Heart Tour nor a total for the studio album itself.

So she didn't get a top due to streaming ? Yes

Posted by: liamk97 23rd September 2017, 11:42 AM

True, although less than 2k pure sales to reach the Top 20 truly is abysmal.

The album has done better in other places around the world - #20 in Australia, Top 10 in both Belgium charts and Germany and #4 in Italy.

The DVD was #1 on the video charts for Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands and Sweden, as well as reaching the Top 10 in Germany and Japan.

I can reveal this was 27 copies away from the Top 40 in the UK last week. sad.gif

'Deeper & Deeper' uploaded to Madonna's VEVO account:

Fab performance! It was so great to see 'Deeper & Deeper' get recognition in 2015 - it's a huge fan fave but remained unacknowledged for so long. Hopefully the reactions from fans hearing and seeing such gems performed means they'll appear on future tours.

Deeper and Deeper was the highlight for me wub.gif

ALSO I saw this in HMV but I didn't buy it because I need to reseach and make sure I get a version I want most. Basically I want all of her tours on DVD but I need them in the same/similar packaging and in HMV I saw one version with a standard DVD case and another blu-ray one with a small cardboard case (they also had the Confessions tour in same format).

SO I shall research and then decide which one to get :')

You're just like me, I'm always so picky about packaging! laugh.gif

I'm holding off getting Madonna's albums on vinyl just in case we ever getting special editions at any point (like next year to celebrate Madonna's 60th).

Currently getting really into Heartbreakcity Live. Her raspy vocals in the first verse are almost off-putting but they reflect the tone of the song well and the interspersed f***S/profanities offer something more harrowing than the studio version. I love the song anyway but the live version is really doing it for me right now.

Posted by: liamk97 14th November 2017, 12:12 PM

I agree, the mood of the song allows her signature ballad vocal to really work. I'm still gutted 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' was cut out, but the song as it is still sounds fab.

I'm on a tour buzz from seeing Blondie at the weekend and I need Madonna to go on tour again so I can see her! Do a Beyonce and have the tour before the album release! laugh.gif

Rebel Heart Tour is airing on BBC 2 on Saturday 13th at 10:30pm! Probably won't watch live but will watch on catch-up (given I still haven't purchased the DVD!).

Yes all watch to give a decent rating !!

Posted by: HausAlone 8th January 2018, 09:02 PM

Yes that's great! Usually out Saturday nights so yes, might have to be catch up for me too.

Did anyone watch last night? Think I'm going to watch tomorrow afternoon; can't wait! wub.gif

Posted by: liamk97 17th January 2018, 03:53 PM

I'm watching now! That intro will never not impress me. heart.gif

Well I only got half way because I was so tired, but 'True Blue' into 'Deeper & Deeper' was fantastic; was so lovely to see everyone embracing one another and sing along to 'True Blue' and for that to be extended by the euphoric anthem of 'Deeper & Deeper'.

My only gripe is that the tour is so heavily processed and that's quite intrusive to your enjoyment. Not so much in the more intimate moments like above and not enough to complete spoil it, but it is a niggle.

^ agreed

The tour was repeated again on BBC Four last Friday if anyone fancies watching: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0952xgk/madonna-rebel-heart-tour

There was also a repeat of a There's Only One Madonna documentary that was originally shown in 2001: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00748kl/theres-only-one-madonna
