My entry for BJSC 80 is...Dirtcaps ft. Rochelle - Fools Paradise!
Hope you enjoy and most importantly vote!
Fab entry!
The official St. Burbia entry for the first contest of the year is...BISHOP - Wild Horses!
Very excited about entering this - it's probably my favourite of the three entries so far. Such an interesting mix and lovely vocals from BISHOP (not to be confused with BISHØP ).
First post updated.
32nd with 140 points - I had hoped for slightly better but then it was pretty much what most people predicted in the predictions thread, so I expected it. Special thanks to What for giving 18 points That was a lovely surprise! I pretty much liked all of the songs which finished top 10 as well, so great discoveries this month.
Interestingly, some songs from Semi 2 which just missed out on my votes at that stage ended up overtaking others, which had received votes, for the final. There were some real growers in there.
This was easily my favourite of your entries so far! Reminded me a bit of Marian Hill minus the sax. Should have done better ~
Hello there. This month St. Burbia is proud to announce our entry into BJSC 82 is...Jorja Smith - Blue Lights!
This is a lovely R&B song which was released a couple of weeks back by a newcomer from the West Midlands. I love the use of the surprising Dizzee Rascal sample as well. Please support!
I'm listening to this right now on my run through of the semi, what a stunner Think it's my favourite entry of yours to date!
I like this a lot burbe, it's quite the beauty
Thanks very much - great to see some love for this beautiful track
Really like this !!!
Really liking this as well, have liked each of your entries more than the previous one so far!
This month's official entry from St. Burbia for BJSC 83 is...Basenji - Can't Get Enough!
It just LOVE this - it's so feel-good and I can listen to it at anytime. It's very different to all my previous entries but I hope you enjoy it too!
I can get with this *.* cuteness level off the scale
After last month's DNQ, all hopes are being pinned on Bearson ft. Cal - Want You to restore St. Burbia to the finals.
After the second worst performance for me last month, this month it's just about the best! Want You managed to get St. Burbia its best performance to date by matching previous high peak of #13 (which had been achieved by Fools Paradise in BJSC 80), however, it received a higher points total of 210 points compared to 201 for the latter. Want You is also the most successful semi-final performance to date, reaching #3 with 118 points!
Congratulations to FARC and their winning entry! Save It is a fantastic song and received 15 points from St. Burbia. It was narrowly beaten to 18 points by Syndare's entry called Drop (which finished not too far from the top 20).
Thanks for much to everyone who voted, and as a little treat for you, it appears the music video has now been released! So enjoy...
This month, I'm hoping to get a new streak going after last month's brilliant result. Officially representing St. Burbia is...MAALA - Kind of Love!
Please support. Ta x
Uplifting island vibes for Summer coming very soon ~
Ooh excite. Not much summery stuff been entered this year so
Absolutely adore my entry this month. So summery and feel-good - I just want to be on freedom island now It's The Free - Freedom Island:
don't let this DNQ guys please
Even though my floppiness has caused this to DNQ, please continue to vibe on Freedom Island I'm glad it's proved a good discovery for a few other people at least.
this would have been my 18 in the final if it'd got through
Woulda been my 18 or close to as well
Was also likely to be my 18 too (haven't listened to the other semi yet though)
You shoulda kept it tbh
Feel free to offer opinions on the following ~
A little stuck, so some help would be great.
Definitely Zack Knight! Obviously me and you were both big fans of Bombae - this is nearly on a par with that, such a tune. I heard it shortly after discovering Bombae via you, by the way.
'Dum Dee Dee Dum' > 'Like Home' >>> 'Dirty Dirty'
Omg that Zack Knight song is UTTER TRASH but I absolutely love pretty much anything that has Punjabi in it lmaooo. Nu 'Pakka Sharabi' mixed with 'Baby Doll' *.* good luck qualifying with it but I will love you forever if you send it (ok maybe not since you remain a vile Lorde hater xx).
'Like Home' is really good too anyway, love the production! The last song was a bit bland but not horrendous ~
Hmmmmmm. Interesting comments - I've almost made my mind up I think.
It's time for some punjabi and urban vibes this month as the entry that has officially been chosen is Zack Knight & Jasmin Walia - Dum Dee Dum.
Jasmin Walia may be an autotuned mess (I mean she didn't even pass the X Factor audition) but this is quite a jam and the fact it's so messy makes it even more incredible.
YES. This will probably DNQ but I am throwing my full weight behind it. <3
YES! Hype me!!! I am expecting it to DNQ - especially in such a big semi final!!
It's time for another Island jam, this time in the form of Sarah Mark - Tun Up!
The perfect way to book end the Summer! Sarah Mark is Trinidadian artist who now resides in Canada and is beginning to tun up over there on the radio stations. Hopefully you guys support this little jam
yaaasss bitch this is fab again
Vote for Blue Lights to win Best Song at the MOBO Awards: https://voting.mobo.com/categories/song
I wish I could be posting Lizzo - Phone (#bringherback #sixchairchallenge #unveto etc.) however it wasn't meant to be
Therefore, plan b was brought into action which was to go for a more typically St. Burbia sound. It's a very chill and slightly R&B influenced dance track with an infectious hook. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
BJSC 89 - iSHi ft. Shenie Fogo - There for Me
You might recognise the name iSHi and that's because he was the man behind three of Tinie Tempah's hits - "Written In The Stars", "Children of the Sun" and "Invincible", as well as #1 smash "Read All About It" and a random Alexandra Burke album track called "Fire" ().
A mixed bag of fortunes for St. Burbia this month as we have a little disaster in the main contest, however, finish top 10 in the instrumentals spin-off with the gorgeous "Hearing".
Thanks to everyone who voted, it was a lovely surprise to see this gem finishing at #8. I'm glad so many of you enjoyed it.
BJSC 90 - Alisha Pillay - Mayday
My entry this month comes courtesy of Canada for the second time! Mayday is a bit of a jam with a Black Widow-esque production and a slightly cringe video. Also Alisha is from Vancouver (hype )! The song has begun making progress on iTunes in Belgium it seems, so clearly that's a country with good taste!
#WildHorsesToSlayTBO
#MaydayToSlayRejects
#Justice4Lizzo
Dum Dee Dum >
'Dum Dee Dum' and 'Wild Horses' were definitely your highlights this year Wishing I gave the former more points lmao. Massive guilty pleasure grower *.*
Blue Lights & Basenji are of course still total anthems (and enough to help me forgive you for that Dum Dee Dum thing x)
Tun Up is a jam & a half
I'm pretty sure Basenji will do well in Rejects considering the Nerve connection
I reckon phone should be a wild card choice for Rejects tbh
YES HARRY
My top 40 of the year countdown will be beginning soonish (probably tonight)! In the meantime I can reveal the following countries have made it in...
Aeroche x3
N DNTN x3

#00274E x1
So hype (or lack of) begins right now
Omg yes *.*
The whole of Danaelanda getting a mention here
hype
40. Allie X - Sanctuary [Deandria | 81]
The first winner of the year kicks things off! At the time, I really enjoyed this and it continued to grow on me after the contest ended. "Sanctuary" is the first of FIVE entries from 81. It's definitely the best from Deandria this year, so yay at it being their most successful!
39. Courage My Love - Stereo [Taahino | 90]
Taahino makes their first and only entry on here. "Stereo" is easily my favourite yet from them, but they've had quite a few good entries this year too. Tonight Alive in particular was a fab entry! Once again, this is the first of FIVE entries to appear from 90.
38. AJÁ ROSE - Paradise Blue [Ajanaeda | 87]
This is the first of two songs to appear that failed to qualify for the final. "Paradise Blue" was my 12 pointer from the semi finals in 87 and I was gutted it didn't make it through! Such an underrated song.
37. Jess Kent - Get Down [Cadelicia | 85]
It seems I "only" gave this 7 points back in 85, but it's actually really grown on me after the contest to become one of my favourites from that month. This is also the first of two Cadelicia entries to make my top 40!
36. TAL - Are We Awake [Unovia | 88]
I'm still absolutely loving this! It was unfortunate to come in a very strong month. There are four more from 88 still to come and one more from Unovia.
35. Tkay Maidza - Ghost [#00274E | 81]
This was a fab follow up to Delta Heavy's "Ghost" that won the contest in 80! Like a couple of other countries, #00274E peaked in the very strong month of January for me this year.
34. Bomba Estéreo - Amanecer [Ingermanlandia | 82]
I actually almost forgot about this, but on a revisit for TBO I couldn't get enough of it. I didn't actually point it in the final, yet here it is making my top 40 countdown. Oops. It seems time has been a lot kinder to this than most of the 82 entries that I vote for!
33. Maan - Give You All I Got [Yehesi | 89]
The first of three big Yehesi tunes in this countdown! Yehesi has been on fire with some incredible entries, two huge bangers are still to come. "Give You All I Got" was a great little tune that I'm still coming back to and received a decent 12 points from me in 89.
32. Polyna - Angel (Club Mix) [Aeroche | 84]
31. Kali Uchis ft. Tory Lanez - Ridin' Round (Oshi Redo) [Aeroche | 85]
Two Aeroche entries for the price of one here Also both from consecutive contests! For me, Aeroche is one of the most consistent countries who can always be relied on for a bit of a jam. Three have made it into my countdown, and here's the first two! "Angel" is quite simply a club banger! Love it! I feel "Ridin' Round" gets a bit brushed past amongst all the Aeroche slayage, so I'm throwing that some love here.
Still to come
N DNTN x3
Pupok x3
Altyr Muunilinst x2
Beaverdonia x2
Botanikka x2
D'yermak'er x2
Syndare x2
Yehesi x2
Aeroche x1
Cadelicia x1
Danaelanda x1
FARC x1
FKA FKA FKA π x1
Hushkanukia x1
Jadakissnia x1
Oslol x1
Persephonia x1
Thelonia x1
Unovia x1
Vülkyria x1
'Ridin Round' was easily Aeroche's best of the year up until 'Fate' so I hope people aren't brushing past it!! at Maan and Bomba Estéreo too.
(ooh at my song being still to come ~ exciting)
Yaaaaaas some rlly good songs there *.* polyna and kali are probably my top 2 from aeroche this year maan was another yehesi 18 from me I think
Expecting daddy says no to win
Ooh I'm thrilled to have a top 30 entry here Burbe *.* cannot actually remember what it will be (this seems to be a recurring theme with people's EOYs, my memory is not goals at times x) so I'm excited to find out!
Some amazing picks in that first section but 'Angel' is heads and shoulders above the rest there So bloody glad that Leww ended up sending that after sitting on it for a while! Simply magical.
30. Alfons - Ganjaman [Beaverdonia | 81]
The first of two Beaver entries appearing on my countdown! This was such a jam at the time, and although it feels a little old now I am still loving it quite a bit. The Beaver entries have been fab this year, and I'm looking forward to seeing where 2017 takes them!
29. Jackie Tech - You Can Have It All [Unovia | 90]
"You Can Have It All" is the second of two Unovia entries to appear. This was an absolute jam and my fave from them this year, so ending the year on a high! Can always rely on Unovia to send a jam like this!
28. Mai Lan - Technique [FKA FKA FKA π | 87]
The first of my 18 pointers to appear! For me, 87 was probably the weakest contest of the year and perhaps this being the lowest of the 18s reflects that. However, it's still a great tune and would've been a great winner.
27. Dub FX - So Are You [Thelonia | 87]
A double whammy for 87 here! This is one I forgot about until revisiting the contest for TBO. Over time, I've ended up preferring this slightly to "Technique" and was a fantastic entry with me having originally given it 15 points.
26. The Shanghai Restoration Project ft. Zhang Le - The Wandering Songstress [Persephonia | 81]
Persephonia is another country which, for me, peaked at the start of the year! "The Wandering Songstress" was such a lovely song and I'm so glad they sent this. It's been one of my favourite discoveries of the year and it was fab to see this finish in the top 10.
25. Lushington - You Got Me Baby [Vülkyria | 82]
82's runner up is next! This was one which didn't really hit me in the semis, but by the final I absolutely loved it. It's continued to grow on me after the contest and that 11 points awarded looks a little low in hindsight. A fab entry and well deserving of the #25 place on my countdown!
24. FRANKIE - Gold [Hushkanukia | 89]
The second 18 pointer to appear is from Hushkanukia! I've really enjoyed most of their entries this year, and "Gold" really stuck out for me in 89. In hindsight some of the others have grown on me (no spoilers) but this is still a wonderful, underrated entry.
23. Smith & Thell - ROW [Syndare | 90]
Another from the most recent contest! This is the first of two incredible Syndare entries to make my countdown. "ROW" received a respectable 13 points from me (with my top 2 from 90 still to come) and rounded off a great year for Syndare. They've become of my favourite nations and can't wait to see what 2017 has in store from them!
22. Sophie Beem - Skyline [Aeroche | 89]
The third and final appearance from Aeroche comes from 89! "Skyline" is such a brilliant pop song and I've regularly got it on rotation. It's such a shame this didn't win rather than "Fade" in 90. But thanks Lew for some great jams this year and I hope you keep delivering them in 2017.
21. Willa - Hey [Altyr Muunilinst | 86]
This is the first of two incredible Altyr entries in my countdown. It received 15 points from me in 86, finishing behind Pupok's winning song and interestingly the reverse happened in 90 but more of that later It's a fab pop song and probably would've been a worthy winner for me if Pupok didn't grab it that month.
Still to come
N DNTN x3
Pupok x3
Botanikka x2
D'yermak'er x2
Yehesi x2
Altyr Muunilinst x1
Beaverdonia x1
Cadelicia x1
Danaelanda x1
FARC x1
Jadakissnia x1
Oslol x1
Syndare x1
Ooh I'm in your top 20! Fabulous *.*
'The Wandering Songstress' is definitely my highlight of this section! Persephonia's second best of the year for me after 'Thelema'. <3
'Ganjaman' and 'Technique' are total jams.
Yaaaaaas @ pupok being still to come *.*
Hey, Skyline, Technique and You can have it all are all jams
Yayy x
Yas @ Alfons and especially Mai Lan as well
20. Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners - This Girl [Botanikka | 83]
I gave "This Girl" 9 points back in 83, and perhaps it blowing up in the charts is what really made me appreciate and love this song! It's one of those entries where I've looked back and been surprised at not giving it higher points. This is the first of two Botanikka entries to come in the countdown.
19. Kiiara - Feels [D'yermak'er | 83]
This was my 18 pointer from 83! I instantly loved this and it's continued to remain of my fave BJSC songs this year. It's so chill and very refreshing amongst a lot of the more uptempo stuff entered. There's one of my song to come from D'yermak'er in this countdown!
18. Aelyn - Give Love A Try [Pupok | 86]
We finally reach the first of three Pupok appearances! This was such a fab winner and I saw it coming a mile off tbh. It was also my 18 pointer from 86 and really cemented Pupok as one of my fave countries amongst some of the more fun entries.
17. Kenzie May - Honey [Oslol | 82]
This is the 2nd of two songs which didn't qualify to make my countdown. "Honey" was rejected back in 82 and I'm still gutted about it! It was my 12 pointer in the semi finals and covers a different genre which is often overlooked in BJSC, so it was a shame not to see it do better.
16. MENDOZA - Love Druggie (Addict) [Jade Blue Remix] [Cadelicia | 83]
The final entry from 83 to make my countdown is the fantastic "Love Druggie". This was an instant fave at the time and has ended up being a grower too. It's just such a huge tune!
15. Nadia Tehran - Cash Flow [N DNTN | 89]
14. Plaitum - Jagwa [N DNTN | 85]
Double whammy of N DNTN with the first two of their three appearances. "Cash Flow" has proven to be such a huge grower! I love the M.I.A. vibes in the song and originally gave this 15 points in 89, but it's now overtaken "Gold" as my favourite from that contest. Also I've been stanning hard every time I see that advert on TV! "Jagwa" was another fab entry from them in 85 which I originally gave 13 points. It's stood the test of time well so far and will no doubt continue to be one of my faves.
13. Angie - Smoke Weed Eat Pussy [Pupok | 90]
The 2nd of 3 Pupok entries is here! Last month's incredible entry of "Smoke Weed Eat Pussy" is such a guilty pleasure and a bit of a ruin anthem so I was over the moon that this was entered into the contest. It's a shame it didn't do too well in the final but it was always going to be quite niche! This received 15 points from me in 90 and was just edged out by...
12. Atella x Frøder - Closer To Life [Altyr Muunilinst | 90]
"Closer to Life" is such a special song and I was kinda gutted it didn't quite managed to go all the way and win the contest. Given how much I loved Pupok's entry, this is indeed very high praise to beat it twice haha!
11. Bang La Decks - Aide [Beaverdonia | 85]
Another winner and song which received 18 points from me here! I loved the uniqueness of this song and was so happy to see it win the contest in 85! It's continued to be one of my faves and I've also been discovering a couple of other great songs by Bang La Decks.
The Top 10:
Yehesi x2
Botanikka x1
D'yermak'er x1
Danaelanda x1
FARC x1
Jadakissnia x1
N DNTN x1
Pupok x1
Syndare x1
OMG yas *.*
Going to predict Einstein is left to come 👀👀
omg 2 top 10's. Yehesi, queens of Burbe
Omg a Jadakissnia entry in your top 10! Excited to find out what it is!!
TheFatRat (presumably) in your top ten
10. Sada Vidoo - The Actress [D'yermak'er | 88]
The one that got away on this year's X Factor, Sada Vidoo is the first top 10 entry. Beyond the novelty of her being a living doll, this is an infectious song and an incredible discovery from D'yermak'er, so thanks for entering this little gem. "The Actress" received 15 points from me in the incredibly strong contest of 88. Here, it's the 2nd of five entries from 88 that will be appearing, meaning three others have also made the top 10!
09. TheFatRat ft. Laura Brehm - Monody [Danaelanda | 81]
The incredible and epic "Monody" was my first 18 pointer of the year from 81. Danaelanda (or South Danaelanda as they are now known) have sent some really great entries this year, and a couple of others ("In My Head" and "Gregory's Theme") deserve honourable mentions in particular. There's still one more from 81 to come out of the six entries that made my countdown, so come back to find out which it is!
Still to come:
Yehesi x2
Botanikka x1
FARC x1
Jadakissnia x1
N DNTN x1
Pupok x1
Syndare x1
I'm glad you thought 88 was one of the strongest contests! Everyone really brought their A-game
Thank god for Kungs, I am relevant almost in every chart this year
Also I am expecting Stanga to slay here
08. Raye - Shhh [N DNTN | 88]
Surprisingly I only gave "Shhh" 10 points in 88! I suppose it continued to grow on me a lot after the contest and is just unfortunate to have been in such a strong final, battling the likes of "The Actress" and "Einstein". It's great to see Raye in the charts with Jonas Blue atm and hopefully this paves the way for "Shhh" to become a big hit for her. N DNTN has been one of my fave countries this year, with hit entries month after month and this tops them all off for me.
07. Claudia Kane - Einstein [Pupok | 88]
Another from 88 now and this time it's the final appearance from Pupok! "Einstein" is simply incredible and its success in the contest has been one of my favourites since it's not the type of song that would normally be that popular. I'm still regularly coming back to this and will no doubt be a regular fix of my listening/playlists in the future too.
Still to come:
Yehesi x2
Botanikka x1
FARC x1
Jadakissnia x1
Syndare x1
Yesssss Einstein i was so surprised it did well too after I slept on it for several months
06. Salt Ashes - Save It [FARC | 84]
The first of three entries from 84 in the top 10 now appears! "Save It" was my 15 pointer from that month and of course went on to win the contest! I hadn't really taken much note for FARC's entries this year apart from this tune, which hit me in a big way at the time and still remains one of my BJSC faves.
05. Sonia y Selena - Yo Quiero Bailar [Jadakissnia | 81]
Jade's wait is over! The incredible "Yo Quiero Bailar" from 81 manages to clinch a place in my top 5 of the year. I originally gave this 15 points (behind "Monody") and it continued to be an absolute Spanish jam that almost even rivals the iconic Las Ketchup in Spanish jaminess. The video is also incredible and I love the fact that they look like Dolly Parton and Konnie Huq. Here's hoping Jadakissnia gives us another Spanish jam in 2017 haha.
Still to come:
Yehesi x2
Botanikka x1
Syndare x1
Oh of course it was Dolly Parton and Konnie Huq's Spanish twins that you stanned *.* Really did not expect to be as high as top 5 here with anything so that was a lovely surprise
Glad you took to 'Yo Quiero Bailar' so much, it was a very fun way to kick off this year in BJSC for me! I definitely hope to return to Español at some point in the future if I can find some more gems. I did actually find a great Spanish song but found out that it had been sent to Unknown Pleasures, boo!
Great commentary anyway *.* Slay that it ended up toppling 'Monody' in the end to be your favourite from BJSC 81. (As good as that song is as well!)
04. ALMA - Karma [Botanikka | 88]
"Karma" reaches the dizzy heights of #4 here! I'm still absolutely loving this and it definitely deserves its place amongst the top 4. "Karma" was my 18 pointer from 88 and the third highest 18 pointer to appear in the countdown. I was slightly disappointed it didn't perform better in the contest because it sounds HUGE to me, but it did come in a very strong month. Botanikka have had some great entries this year, I'm gonna give a shoutout to "Stanga" as well which missed out on my countdown but I'm still loving as well.
03. Chloe x Halle - Drop [Syndare | 84]
The incredible "Drop" was a big contender for #1 through much of the year but sadly falls short at #3. You can definitely see the influence of Beyoncé here in her two young protégés. This was another fab discovery and entry from Syndare. Although it received 18 points back in 84, another song from that month has crept on me again and I've been probably listening to that a lot more in the last couple of months, which is why it has leap frogged "Drop". I'm looking forward to seeing the tunes Syndare will be sending next year!
And this means it's Yehesi vs. Yehesi for #1!
omg truly one of my biggest fans
!!!!!!!!!
#downwithyehesi xoxox
Yas drag ha bish
01. Rochelle - All Night Long [Yehesi | 84]
02. Era Istrefi - Bonbon [Yehesi | 82]
Missing out on #1 is the absolute jam that goes by the name of "Bonbon". If I had done this a month earlier, I probably would've put this on the top but right now "All Night Long is my fave from this year! So well done Yehesi / Tim for clinching the top 2 I hope you keep up the standard of sending jam after jam in 2017. "Bonbon" of course received 18 points from me in 82 and I'm still gutted it didn't win because it definitely deserved to, especially when that balloon abomination did the following month. "All Night Long" surprisingly only received 13 points from me in 84. Tbf it had stiff competition for that 18, but it seems to have stood the test of time a lot better, hence it gets the very deserving #1 position on my countdown.
Recap

BJSC 91: Alice Merton - No Roots
Kicking things off in 2017 is Alice Merton, who has no roots. The song is about how she's lived in so many countries throughout her life - she could be English, Canadian or German. You decide which you prefer. Also good luck to the Brits if she ever takes off, deciding if she's British or International.
The song itself is very Florence + The Machine, and in parts she could easily be mistaken for Florence! Hope you enjoy and support
German *.* yes botch this is so good!!!
BJSC 91: #6 finish for "No Roots"
St. Burbia in 2017 has kicked off in style with our first ever top 10 finish! I'm so glad this was as well received as it was, it's become my favourite entry yet and to see the voters make it my most successful yet is just fab to see. Thanks so much to everyone who gave points to "No Roots", particularly for Pupok and Azure for their 18 pointers, and Republic d'Ashton for their 15 points too
Massive congrats to Ultraviolenceland and their winner "Monopoly"! It's such a banger and a very well deserved win. I'm also looking forward to the UV hosted contest next month which is bound to be incredible.
A lil teaser for next month ~~ it's going to be my first completely foreign language song Not a trashy Punjabi jam again tho, sadly.
Amazing entry I've been going around all weekend screaming "I've got no ROOTS" in Seven's face, it's been enjoyable
so happy for u bitchia this has been my car jam on the way to waitrose all week
ths is lotti's hair-dyeing anthem tbh
i've got no roots (bc my hair has fallen out due to all the bleaching)
!!!!!
probably with ur new nasty pink hooker hair
erm it's ROSE GOLD
not the colour i was told bitch
you've seen the pics tho
I'LL TAKE MORE SNAPS IN DAYLIGHT
why am i using this thread to discuss my hair colour
Your hair is rose gold and my skin is only tanned, nothing more
look but don't touch bitch
lotti's hair colour moodboard is caramank x
BJSC 92: Eugénie - Puis danse
This month it's St. Burbia's first full foreign language entry from the land of France, following our little half Punjabi banger "Dum Dee Dum" from last year. It's a full-fledged foreign language banger and I'm absolutely loving it atm. When I first saw it, I thought Christine and the Queens on steroids But it's actually so good so I hope you guys enjoy it as much as me!
Congrats on coming Top 20! Puis Danse is a great song - really catchy!
Also never mentioned how good 'No Roots' was, was instantly added to my Spotify playlist after the contest!
Thanks Pete! Glad to hear you're a fan of them both
BJSC 93: Gyptian ft. Lady Leshurr - All on Me (Diztortion Remix)
I've been sitting on this one for quite a while but I think it's finally time to unleash the beast. I think if I had to use one song to describe the St. Burbia sound, this would do it perfectly Classic St. Burbia at its best, imo. Also the fact I get to enter Lady Leshurr in BJSC *.* Also King Gyptian of urban classic "Hold Yuh" fame I hope you are all bouncing your booty's to this Grade A banger. Time to begin my own hype train ~
QUEEN
I can't decide whether "Hold Yuh" or "All on Me" is a bigger urban banger *.*
sold already
BJSC 94: Serayah - Look But Don't Touch
We're sticking with urban this month and it's another epic banger! This time it comes from 'Empire' and their star act Serayah (called Tiana in the show), who deserves to breakout and become the next Beyonce if there's any justice. "Look But Don't Touch" is a sassy, in your face feminist empowerment anthem. The message of the song is that men may want to grab her by the nether regions but Serayah is just there to dance and just because she's looking good, doesn't mean you have a right to try it on with her. Hope you all enjoy it <3
f***ing anthemmmmm
BJSC 95: Billie Eilish - Bellyache
This month it's a recycle from Kluminican Republic in the form of Billie Eilish! I loved "Ocean Eyes" and was delighted to stumble across this gem of a follow up. It's a cute, crazy lil banger - I hope you all enjoy and love it as much I do. It's hard to place it in a genre other than pop (perhaps indie pop?). Let's try to not have a repeat of last month and miss out on qualifying in a tiebreak again </3
yaaaas this better slay bish!! huge grower
BJSC Schlagerfest: Death Team - Messed Up
Very belated posting, but our entry for the Schlagerfest spin-off is this ruin anthem. Messed Up has been on my radar since the start of the year and I've been putting off sending it to the main contest for something else, but I guess this was the perfect opportunity for it to be finally sent since I doubt I'll ever get round to sending it to the main contest I absolutely love it and I've already seen love for it from others in the voting thread so yay
Hey burbe did you make it into the other BJSC event for a 3 minute or less song?
Nudge Liam and another one.
I would embed Copper Kiss but it's impossible to because of the censor , so enjoy emoji hype instead
With Messed Up and now this, the official month of RUIN ANTHEMS is upon us.
Omg ruin time *.* this!!1!1!1!
Omg this!!!
BJSC 96: Tasha Tah ft. RaOol - Malang
Tasha has come to save BJSC from the beige pop for Michael in his absence!!!!! I'm probs a bit silly for confirming this in terms of doing well since Punjabi has a history of flopping (at least since I've taken part), but this was too much of a FULL FAT jam to not send. Please don't serve this iconic anthem dust, but I'm ready for the likelihood of a DNQ. Hopefully at least some of you will enjoy this x
AMAZING.
OMGG YES *.*
Very happy you did send this in the end *.* Punjabi trashpop remains best trashpop. Bop.
I always love a bit of this style of music!
YES!! Stan it everyone, it's gonna need all the help it can get!
This is amazing! And completely stands out in Semi 1 which will serve it very well I expect.
The "one in a one in a one in a one in a million" part of 'Malang' has legitimately been stuck in my head all week this is the kind of trash I can root for! It has a similar charm to queen Jasmin Walia's (and Zack Knight ofc xo) 'Dum Dee Dum' but I like this one slightly more. I hope it will be a dark horse smash for you!
BJSC 97: Moxie Raia ft. Pusha T - On My Mind
Well this one's been a potential since late last year and it's regrown on me so much recently. A nice lil urban banger and I love the video so much - love a good scenic video haha. Also the slightly cheap featured artist is Pusha T who you may know for featuring on iconic Kanye West single "Runaway' (YES) and Pixie Lott flop "What Do You Take Me For?".
Yes!!!!!! *.* Pusha T so cheap tho x
I WEEP for that Pixie song being mentioned in any capacity as part of Pusha T's legacy xx
'What Do You Take Me For?' is Pixie Lott's best song *.*
Another really good entry from St. Burbia, agreed that it's a great vid, reminded me of Katy Perry's Roar at the start but I think this is much better than that (both the vid & the song).
BJSC 98: Eva Simons - Guaya
Probs gonna get stoned for being cheap but this is absolutely one of my favourite songs this year and I HAD to send it. This weird and wonderful song has everything you could need - a banging video, a slightly Spanish influence to jump on the current musical trend, the Island vibes in the verses and Asian influences in the choreography for the chorus. It's sung by an almost unrecognisable Eva Simons, who has previously won with "Silly Boy" but it was quite a while ago x
cheap x
(banger *.*)
Quite surprisingly, given what felt like a lack of hype, Guaya has provided us with our 4th top 10 of the year!
Thanks to everyone who pointed Guaya and in particular for those 3 18s from Kluminican Republic, East Rukhavian and Thelonia <3
So proud *.*
This is an absolute bop *.* I had heard it in the couple weeks before the contest but it's only peaked since it's been entered! Think that was our first time giving you 18 points!
BJSC 99: V. Bozeman - Race Jones
I decided to finally send this long term potential. It's one of the most striking and powerful song and video combos I've come across and I've loved it from the first listen. It was written and released by V following the shooting of Michael Brown in 2014 and yet somehow feels (quite scarily) even more relevant in 2017. I hope some of you will enjoy and appreciate this incredible song as much as I do!

BJSC 101: Irma Thomas - Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)
RESUME VIEWING
Well it felt only right to enter this hit single hidden gem from the year 2023 1964. Of course, it was basically unknown for the last 50 years or so until Black Mirror came along and reintroduced to the world. There's something so timeless and stunning about this and I thank Black Mirror every day for introducing this song to me <3
what a bop. (genuinely such an earworm tho ffs, it's always in my head after i watch an episode with it )
Oh my! Is that the oldest entry ever to BJSC! Or has someone sent something before from, for example, one of the delta blues players from the 1930s!
Where's Bray?!
Vivaldi's 'Winter' has been entered to BJSC so no this isn't the oldest xo
Idk if there have been any older recordings though I remember Love's 'Alone Again Or' was from the 60s as well but that's later than this. x
King of knowledge *.*
I'm going to claim the record for oldest recording and anyone who disagrees can fight me
Actually I found one xx Singerpurear sent Kyu Sakamoto's 'Ue O Muite Arukō' (1961) in the same contest as 'Winter'. So you can fight popchartfreak x
LMFAO wreck ha. what a flop
omg worst thread of buzzjack!!!!!!!
ben when he found out the news
who thinks that was a good one?
Iconic video, like my entry which is the oldest recording sent to BJSC so far xxx
I like that song.
BJSC 102: Banx & Ranx ft. Lady Leshurr - Time Bomb
It's my first ever self-recycle in the form of Lady Leshurr as she vocals Banx & Ranx track "Time Bomb". This song sees a slightly more commercial sound for Banx & Ranx compared with their usual Reggae Fusion sound. It absolutely bops as with most of their material and the addition of Lady Leshurr makes it even more incredible.
BJSC 103: Leikeli47 - Attitude
Kelis is god. So is Beyonce.
~late posting
~vote for Leikeli
RIP my fav nation
Kelis and Beyoncé have intervened xx
(this was too much of a bop to DNQ so yass)
*.*
Kelis and Beyonce are now confirmed gods
BJSC 104: L Devine - Like You Like That
Gone full pop hoe this month with this bop. In fact, I'd probably say this is my most pure pop sounding entry to date and a bit different from anything else I've sent to the contest so far this year. If you have time, also check out her EP 'Growing Pains'. It's a very strong pop debut from her thanks to some major label backing from Warner Bros.
BJSC 105: VAX & Sorana - Bubble Gum
Late posting ~ this month following the veto of Meg Myers (still triggered) I'm sticking with some pop goodness. "Bubble Gum" has production that wouldn't sound out of place on one of the Terror Jr EPs and is a full fledged scandibop. It's just a shame it's so short </3
this is such a bop *.* join the laundry clique x
LOVE this. send me ur location u lil BOTCH
ADORE this
💖
BJSC 106: Kara Marni - Love Just Ain't Enough
The queen of The Girls Tour (excl. Rita & Raye) is flying the St. Burbian flag this contest. I've been in love with this song since hearing her perform it live as part of her warm up set for Rita <3 Absolute emotion filled and vocals banger.
LMFAO
i actually like her but were we at the same gig or
BJSC 107: Akasa - Thug Ranjha
It's that time of year again...the annual St. Burbia desi bop is here! And for the first time, there's no English part to the song #ExtraDesi #ExtraCheeky This is actually Akasa's debut single, having previously only worked on movie soundtracks and it's a proper banger for a debut!! Punjabi goddess tbh you better support her <3
BJSC 108: Alice Chater - Heartbreak Hotel
Apparently this is my 30th(!) entry, which I realised just now while loading it on to my YouTube playlist (which you can find in the OP x). If you're looking for a pop hoe af song with a killer video despite the low budget then this is the song for you!! ;o I just cannot unhear "Ring My Bell" since reading it on the YouTube comments but that's not a bad thing since that's a banger too x
BJSC 109: Kamille, Kranium & Louis Rei - Emotional
I'm already at peace with the DNQing...I literally have 0 expectations for this and will be very surprised to see this through to the final but I just had to send it. It's been such a fave of mine for the last month or so. An urban bop *.* Kamille's real name is Camille Purcell, who you make recognise as being a co-writer of huge hits including "Solo" by Clean Bandit (of which she is also an uncredited vocalist) and practically the entire back catalogue of Little Mix...
BJSC 110: Connie Francis - You're Gonna Miss Me
We started the year in 1964 and now we're ending the year even further back in the year 1959! Yes, fight me. I'm formally claiming the record for oldest recording sent to the contest for a second time and this time don't you dare snatch it from me Bray x
This is a truly magical song which I was fortunate to discover with thanks to AHS and that's all I say about that as spoilers ;o And ever since then it's been very high in my affections. Not quite Irma iconic but it's another timeless classic
