Curious to see if JT can reach #1 (hoping so!), will depend on what the song's like i guess, since Perfect is still racking up pretty good sales

Glad to see Jax Jones newie turning into a hit - hope it smashes the top 5. One of my highlight tracks of the past 7 days - certainly helped make the New Years period! Also was requested for the first time in my DJ set on Friday, which is promising.

Posted by: UltraReputation 5th January 2018, 01:11 AM

This is me is up to 8 and is just behind Perfect on kworb so hopefully it can get as high as 7 before the new entries start entering the top 10! <3

There is no way ANYONE in the UK will like the new JT song so a huge flop is upon us. Amazing song BTW but everyone hates that. Weird choice for his first comeback single.

Posted by: nigels 5th January 2018, 07:04 AM

There’s a decent song hidden somewhere amongst the terrible overdone production of the JT song. Gonna flop for sure.

Posted by: Nick Jonas 5th January 2018, 07:14 AM

Its very SexyBack.

Posted by: Lomadz 5th January 2018, 07:19 AM

Actually angry at JT for this, sure he has some classics waiting and with the super bowl this could have been his era. I love the man and even have a bloody tattoo with his initials, his music has been legendary but what is this???? Genuinely pissed off.

Posted by: Bjork 5th January 2018, 07:33 AM

in 2 days, they're gonna say this was just a buzz single and the proper lead single is coming soon

Posted by: Lomadz 5th January 2018, 07:44 AM

Surely Bjork buy why have they don't this. This was his bloody chance to be massive again! Really massive.

Posted by: Bjork 5th January 2018, 07:46 AM

well i think it's perfect for the US, which is sure his #1 market

Posted by: Lomadz 5th January 2018, 08:03 AM

I've been having a meltdown this morning then a clip comes on Good Morning Britain and my wife goes....'This is actually really hood's. She doesn't even listen to music much so maybe a good sign the GP will like it. Haha

Posted by: Lomadz 5th January 2018, 08:18 AM

Do you think that if his second song is great that he will smash with it? Worried for the era now.

Posted by: Cremey 5th January 2018, 08:25 AM

Hoping Filthy smashes, love it.
I think it’ll do a lot better than people are expecting.

Posted by: Lomadz 5th January 2018, 08:36 AM

Just listened to it in the car on repeat. Think it's the video that ruins it because it's much better without it. Maybe it will be big.

Posted by: ManicKangaroo 5th January 2018, 08:37 AM

9. Bruno Mars - Finesse (Remix) [feat. Cardi B]
37. Liam Payne & Rita Ora - For You (From "Fifty Shades Freed")
93. Justin Timberlake – Filthy
115. Kendrick Lamar & SZA - All the Stars
209. Charlie Puth - If You Leave Me Now (feat. Boyz II Men)

Posted by: Guy Y 5th January 2018, 09:04 AM

"For You" sounds like "Rank 1 - Airwave".

Posted by: ML Hammer95 5th January 2018, 09:20 AM

The new Timberlake song certainly sounds like nothing else in the chart right now... I like it! Very funky, but modern as well.

I wonder if it's the start of a change in chart trends? It sounds like a more refined version of 2008-12 style songs.

Posted by: Rossco 5th January 2018, 09:23 AM

Loving the new Rita/Liam track. JTs new single however is horrendous! I am so disappointed with it.

Posted by: ElectroBoy 5th January 2018, 09:23 AM

I don't think the JT track is that bad - its different and possibly wont be as commercially successful. Maybe my expectations were low given comments on here but it was alright.

By contrast the Liam/ Rita song has rave reviews on here and I felt underwhelmed. Liam's range and diction is terrible

Posted by: mrbrightside 5th January 2018, 09:32 AM

Very disappointed with JT's new song.....it's no Mirrors or CSTF that's for sure and will flop. However I'm sure his second single will be much better (like Taylor)

Charlie Puth new one disappointing too. Rita/Liam future number 1 although it's pretty bland

Anyway at least it's nice to get some new releases even though they're mostly rubbish

Posted by: T Boy 5th January 2018, 09:40 AM

I heard Justin’s song on Radio 1 this morning though I was half asleep. It sounded like the music was too loud for the vocals but very different. Fair play to JT for trying something different. I don’t see why people are having meltdowns about it, even if this era does flop, it’s hardly the end of him.

Posted by: Jonjo 5th January 2018, 09:49 AM

It's very 'SexyBack'. Except without the hook. I don't see why some of his fans are hating it when this sounds like it'd fit perfectly on 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' laugh.gif

As for the general consumer, I'm not sure. I can see this doing so well on streaming, but after peaking on sales, I can see it falling pretty quick. I think I read someone on here say they think it will have a 'Look What You Made Me Do' sort of chart life, which I can def see happening. But then again Justin is a white male so could just as easily go to number for 8 weeks instead.. who knows 🙃

I also feel like we're getting other tracks before the album release in just under a month.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 5th January 2018, 09:50 AM

This is a similar reaction that 'Work' got isn't it?

Posted by: FleetSeb 5th January 2018, 09:57 AM

JT's is very different, think it will take some time to get used to it.

Don't understand the praise for Rita/Liam, to me it is worse than the Zayn/Taylor duet. It's just dull.

Loving Kendrick and SZA, hope that does something.

Posted by: Mart!n 5th January 2018, 10:13 AM

Filthy seems alright, but it doesn't really stand out for me, there is something missing, probably because its different from what there is in the charts. I was really expecting something upbeat.

Liam & Rita's track is a bit bland, its got no beat to it hardly, its not really Love Me Like You Do

All these years it seems funny seeing Boyz II Men as featured artists, after their #1 smash End of the Road.

Kendrick & SZA track sounds promising, its also attached as a soundtrack to the new Marvel film Black Panther out next month, probably more tracks from the soundtrack album will get dropped soon.

Bruno & Cardi Up to 6!!! ohmy.gif

Posted by: PeaceMob 5th January 2018, 10:34 AM

Haven't liked a Justin Timberlake song after the Futuresex/Lovesounds era (yes I didn't like "Can't Stop The Feeling") but this "Filthy" song reminds me of that era, I really like it, hopefully he's got a song coming up as good as "What Goes Around...Comes Around" too.

Posted by: Court 5th January 2018, 10:36 AM

6. Finesse (Remix)
8. For You
18. Filthy

Posted by: Lomadz 5th January 2018, 10:45 AM

Well this is awkward, the JT song is bloody brilliant. After the twentieth odd listen you appreciate it ha. Original and I've massively changed my mind. Will be a hit and if not the next will.

Refreshing to have a load of new songs in the top 10 and Perfect down to 1 version

Posted by: M4NG0 5th January 2018, 11:37 AM

'Finesse' and 'If You Leave Me Now' are both proper early 90s throwbacks, they sound dated by about 25 years (although I guess that's the general intention with them).

Haven't made up my mind about JT yet, it's not as commercial as I was expecting it to be, I guess it's a bit like the 'Suit & Tie' / 'Mirrors' situation, where the next single will be the more commercial one and the bigger hit.

Rita/Liam sounds like it could make #1 at some point.

Posted by: Lorde 5th January 2018, 11:39 AM

No idea how Bruno x Cardi are rising so fast ohmy.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 5th January 2018, 11:42 AM

I think JT's song will be a grower. There's no obvious hook, but that intrigues me.

Posted by: Midge 5th January 2018, 11:44 AM

I don't get the LWYMMD comparison with Filthy. Well yes it's not the most commercial song he could have released but he is Justin Timberlake, he doesn't follow trends. Also there's the big difference of it actually being good. Probably won't make #1 though which is a shame. Ed Sheeran has it again this week.

Posted by: mdf 5th January 2018, 12:09 PM

Finesse and Filthy are certainly very different to most pop/R&B around atm. Hopefully this means different pop trends emerging this year and tired tropical pop/ future bass pop finally dying out.

I'd compare it more to Harry Styles "Sign Of The Times" in that it just sounds so different to other popular music at the moment, he's a huge name, etc. They both sound like they're channelling old school legends who've passed.

There are two things that I dislike in "Filthy"

1. Lyrics: calling dick a "meat" should've been forbidden 10 years ago
2. the verses are totally awful both lyrically and otherwise

The bass line is great but overall the song sounds like a draft of a better song (which he had loads on FS/LS)

JT is getting crazy good reviews. Maybe it's just not what we were expecting etc etc but I am obsessed now.

Rita will get another top10 but slightly disappointed. Should have left Liam out.

Didn't like it on a first listen but after the 3rd time of hearing it, I'm rapidly starting to love it. Very much like sexy back part 2. Really hope this gets to no.1 and ends Ed's domination at the top.

Well, she’s been consistently popular for almost 18 years and isn’t the first female artist to achieve this so it goes against your sexism argument slightly.

Whether it’s crap or not is subjective though.

And although Pink doesn’t make crap music, she’s clearly an A list artist. Don’t knock her down because you hate her.

Yeah, no.

The others have flopped, as female artists always do. They get kicked down after becoming A list.

Screech flies under the sales, produces stuff just for the radio to pay the bills, doesn't take risks, but consistently gets moderate success. That is B list.

HOW in the wide world of f*** is P!nk "B-list"? She's actually been hugely successful consistently, her albums are always MASSIVE sellers, she's just had a mega smash single and her album has been in the top 10 since it was released 3 months ago?

So divorced from reality...

In the last ten years, Pink has sold more albums than Beyonce, Justin and Bruno who you declare A List. Her return last year was a clear event. You can’t get more A List than her.

You have an unhealthy problem with her, constantly wanting to put her down. You even make up crap to back up your arguments but all posters see through it. Give up the desperation.

The new JT really is poor. It’s like Suit & Tie all over again in terms of disappointment.

I hope he has a far superior second single or this era will run out of steam pretty quick.

Shame Trigger Bang is nowhere to be seen. I was worried it would get lost in the mix with all the Christmas songs back in December.

Posted by: Lomadz 6th January 2018, 11:40 AM

Trigger Bang was meant for a Feb release. I think they might start pushing to radio/spotify then as that’s probably when it was all scheduled.

Loving the New Year New Hits trend. To think January was once upon a time the dead month. Bruno hopefully has a future #1 on his hands with the genius Finesse campaign - the video is something out of 90's Nickelodeon I love it! Loving Crastille too although not too sure on the JT track just yet - it seems far too overthought and overproduced (but then I was never a huge fan of SexyBack at the time nor S&T).

Call me crazy but could This is Me actually end up at #1 at some point? Its gaining quite quickly on iTunes and Spotify and there aren't that many other contenders? River could get a week at the top and there are a few other songs that look set to be big (For You/Breathe) but This is Me seems to be gaining bit of momentum. Of course a brand new song could debut any time now though.

My thought is that I can't see the track managing 50k+ combined sales in a week due to the type of track it is. I'd expect a maximum of a "Let It Go" type of performance, but it is probably easier for it to break the top 10 at least. Just my thought anyway, no fact!
