Just wondering that Diana Vickers got to number one with first released single and album, and last year so did Alexandra Burke, Cheryl Cole + Lady Gaga? Is this something to do with the popularity of female performers recently? How many have there been? (I think possibly Kylie Minogue, definitely Leona Lewis) (Not Beyonce or Madonna)
So how many have there been? This post has been edited by Leonardo2505: Jul 26 2010, 05:42 PM |

Beyonce has if you exclude the Austin Powers soundtrack 'Work It Out'. 'Crazy In Love' was her proper debut single.
Britney and Christina didn't do the double because '...Baby One More Time' and 'Christina Aguilera' peaked at #4 and #14 respectively. |

Any others?
Am not counting Beyonce as it still charted, and was released. Trying to think of other possibles So Far: Alexandra Burke: Overcome - Hallelujah Diana Vickers: Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree - Once Kelly Rowland: Simply Deep - Dilemma (Nelly ft. Kelly Rowland) * Kylie Minogue: Kylie (The Album) - I Should Be So Lucky Lady Gaga: The Fame - Just Dance (or Poker Face*) Leona Lewis: Spirit - A Moment Like This Sandi Thom: Smile It Confuses People - I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) *Just depends on how you define female solo as being either credited as solo artist or a sole credit on the song This post has been edited by Leonardo2505: Jul 29 2010, 04:37 PM |

...Baby One More Time peak is #2, not #4. I don't think it did: http://www.everyhit.com/searchsec.php Erm others????? Solo Spice Girls? Mel C? I know Geri and possibly Emma didn't. Mel B didn't IIRC and nor did Victoria. Kelly Rowland did - if you count 'Dilemma'. EDIT: Nah Mel C didn't. This post has been edited by SceneofSIXCrimes: Jul 26 2010, 06:40 PM |

Depends if you count Sandi Thom re-releasing I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (and reaching #1 the second time, and something like #60 the first time in late 2005 if I recall.) Technically it's the same song, but two releases so I dunno about that one.
I think your list is about it to be honest. Solo female artists weren't even hugely popular in the earlier days of the chart, so... |

Thought Natasha Bedingfield did for a second then , but thankfully her first single was... erm, "Single" (#3).

Lady Gaga: The Fame - Just Dance (or Poker Face*) Just Dance debuted at #3 and Poker Face debuted at 30 something? Duffy also missed out, thought Mercy was first charting single, turns out it was Rockferry (#45) Who knew? It was a limited copy release or something. |

I was about to comment how bizarre it was to see Dame Kelly Rowland there over than Beyonce, and then I saw SANDI THOM, and suddenly it wasn't Kelly who seemed out of place anymore.

Kate Bush's debut single was number one... but the debut album Kick Inside' stalled at number 3, despite reaching platinum status in the UK. Shame, as this would've made her the first....
