Great section there (James Bay aside). SELFIE is hilarious & underneath the intentional tacky vocals lies a great production.
Always up there with my faves of the year tho! This post has been edited by Dobbo: 13th January 2015, 06:16 PM |

James Bay should absolutely have been higher. One of my top tracks of the year.
How Selfie got so many votes is beyond me. Awful song. And this is coming from someone who owns a selfie stick! This post has been edited by FleetSeb: 13th January 2015, 09:13 PM |

MK should be higher! That is definitely one of last year's dance highlights.
I would say Demi should be too, but it's just a generic track that I happen to have a soft spot for. |

Really surprised Busta Rhymes is in the top 20; I had forgot about that track until this thread! Surely that must be one of the first to go?

20. Kendrick Lamar - i (109)
20-54-74-x (3 weeks) 19. Le Youth feat. Dominique Young Unique - Dance With Me (109) 11-28-40-46-69-x (5 weeks) 18. Busta Rhymes feat. Q-Tip, Lil' Wayne & Kanye West - Thank You (129) 71-70-x-37-13-13-16-22-38-65-67-x (10 weeks) 17. Oliver $ & Jimi Jules - Pushing On (133) 15-39-56-x (3 weeks) 16. Shakira feat. Rihanna - Can't Remember To Forget You (136) 11-31-38-15-18-19-23-27-36-42-39-47-68-x (13 weeks) Starting the top 20 are a few tracks I'm surprised are so high. Firstly Kendrick Lamar who came back with with the disappointing 'i'. It became his first top 40 hit as a lead artist though, when clearly Swimming Pools (Drank) should've done so Le Youth had a really funky single in 'C O O L', which was a surprise top 40 hit. So how was he gonna follow it up? By releasing the same song again of course, except now it's called Dance with Me and has a guest rap from Dominique Young Unique. I wasn't a huge fan, and to be honest Le Youth hasn't really hit it for me apart from 'C O O L'. Which is a shame because that was so so good. Busta Rhymes managed a chart comeback with 'Thank You' which featured Q-Tip plus additional noises from Lil Wayne and Kanye West. It was great seeing this in the chart, I love how fast Busta raps and it's good to have some urban rap in the chart, even if just for the Buzzjack reaction. Although this clearly has its fans as it's #18. One of my personal faves of the entire year, Pushing On sadly didn't do too well despite being one of the biggest club hits of the year (the best selling song of 2014 on beatport!) and having lots of R1 support. It's an amazing tune with a lovely sample and hard hitting piano chords. Love the lyrics to this too. To the surprise of many Shakira's comeback single couldn't go top 10 despite featuring Rihanna. Maybe if the single and video were released at the same time it would've gone higher |

anyone who loves any of these should check out there new track R E A L okay 1) it's "their" and not "there" 2) you're still incorrect as Le Youth is just one person (Wes James is his name IIRC) Anyway, I had completely forgot about Dance With Me! Strange as I rather like it, although C O O L is still far superior. Kendrick finishing way too low <//3 But at least i's position matches its official chart peak |

The ICONIC workout mix of 'All About That Bass' was a minor top 20 hit, slaying all bases left right and center and raining down on all your faves. It was even more popular than Meghan Trainor's cover version, until it was released on iTunes and was an instant #1 leaving this version to die. It was so good to see Power Music Workout getting the recognition they deserve, but sadly it's been forgotten along with other original songs overshadowed by their covers, DJ Stay The Night's near-self-titled hit 'Stay The Night' and The Mega Giants 'Prayer In C' to name 2 from this year. Dan, Power Music Workout "All About That Bass", DJ Stay The Night "Stay The Night" and The Mega Giants "Prayer In C" were the covers. They all faded out when the originals by Meghan Trainor, Zedd and Lilly Wood, respectively, were released. |
