It helps that this one is far more accessible! We have the album next week and I think we have one more video to come. I wonder if he's saved the best/most hit worthy one for last/to coincide with the albums release?

If you're talking about Proud, that came out on streaming services last week. It's just a song for an Absolut Vodka campaign in the US!

If she released an acoustic version on iTunes it could give her a decent boost in sales to get her into the Top 10

Posted by: SKOB 27th January 2018, 08:01 AM

I must say I'm very surprised that it took 9 months for Feel It Still to take off in the UK. Usually it's other way around.. that UK embraces new hits first.

Posted by: mrbrightside 27th January 2018, 10:01 AM

Really don't get the popularity of Feel It Still. So repetitive and bland

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but 13 of the top 24 are currently 59p (and 6 of the top 7). Seems that's the only way to sell singles nowadays - perhaps they should make it the standard price?

Also, Feel It Still could be up to 2 soon - if it could get to #1 on iTunes it would make my year! ohmy.gif

Jaded ft Ashnikko - Pancake in the top 200 too at #166

I am guessing for both, the reason for them appearing is the weekend effect and Radio 1 playing them last night maybe?

Shame the worst Sigrid song is the one getting the attention

Plot Twist wouldhave done much better on Spotify

10. Rudimental - These Days (feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen)

I did wonder if Portugal. The Man could do a Shawn Mendes "Stitches" before Christmas... but he had something extra behind him that Portugal. The Man just won't have. Well, we'll see, but I'd guess "Feel It Still" is a bit too 'adult' for the average streaming audience.

Posted by: GTH 27th January 2018, 10:30 PM

It's a shame it has taken this long for Feel It Still to take off. The fact it has been out so long and been a consistent trickle sellar leading up to it blowing up now hasn't helped in terms of getting the best peak. If someone danced to this on strictly, it probably would have peaked much sooner. It's the sort of song that would benefit from strictly exposure with its adult contempory sound.

never thought it'd see Portugal the man at #2
it's a pity there's been such a lack of synchronization between itunes and spotify
if it were on spotify's hot hits now, instead of 6 months ago, could even be a contender for #1

Posted by: SKOB 28th January 2018, 11:50 AM

Well it's impossible to synchronize when songs been an upcoming hit for 8 months.. It debuted on the US Hot 100 in July.

Posted by: lewistgreen 28th January 2018, 11:53 AM

Feel It Still never had a UK push until now though, which is silly when it went low top 40 last year and they should've capitalised on it then... but maybe the record label had other ideas for international markets.

Yeh it's a really good song - the performance on SLFN before Xmas helped establish it in the iTunes top 50 too!

Posted by: Midge 30th January 2018, 09:58 PM

The Rudimental/Jess Glynne/Macklemore/Dan Caplen collab is excellent, I think, and would be a very welcome number 1. It's a collab of some of the 2010s stars really (plus a newbie) - between them they've had EIGHT number 1s with "Feel The Love", "Waiting All Night", "Rather Be", "My Love", "Hold My Hand", "Not Letting Go", "Don't Be So Hard On Yourself", "Thrift Shop".

I agree, I think the quality of the song has been a bit underestimated by some (may be because it is not a style of music that is current) and also I give credit to those behind her, she performed on The One Show this week which kept the momentum going, I wouldn't be surprised if they have more Promo lined up next week. Also I have heard it played on Capital which can only bode well for long term success as they have a tendency to play songs for months.

'These Days' sounds like it'll be one of the biggest songs of the year to me.

That Rudimental song is honestly the most bland thing they have put out to date. sad.gif So, SO disappointed. Especially considering I love Macklemore!

To be fair, most of Rudimental's output since 'Waiting All Night' has been fairly forgettable. This is one of the better ones.

Jess Glynne just casually showing us why she's the real queen of music. So glad this looks set to be a hit and possibly bigger than the limp 'Sun Comes Up'. biggrin.gif

The problem is that it's vaguely country sounding. Immediately blacklisted from commercial stations in the UK :')

Kojo Funds x RAYE tomorrow also

I expect that will be big, Kojo Funds seems to be one of those rappers who's been big but not in the charts yet (excluding his Finders Keepers feature). Could even debut top 40.

Oh my! hype! Her 'You Keep Me Hanging On' cover is amazing (she should collab with Initial Talk actually as the production is similar to his Dua Lipa 80s remix), as is 'The Second Time'. Never really liked 'Kids in America' though, rather immature and annoying song imo.

Which of course some people disagree, thinking an act can't be big if they're not in the charts.

Yeah I get what you mean about 'Kids In America'. However 'You Meep Me Hangin' On', 'You Came', 'Never Trust A Stranger', 'Four Letter Word' and 'Love Is Holy' are all 80s/90s classics! Not holding out much hope for her comeback being any good though.

I suppose its a fun enough song, maybe I have judged it too harshly.

I must check out her early stuff, but I will probably still think her cover of 'You Keep Me Hanging On' is my favourite from her, what a big sounding dance tune that is, amazing production too!

Would be great if she collabed with Initial Talk who made that Dua Lipa 80s remix! I hope her comeback is upbeat synthpop though!

Yep never Trust A Stranger is very good too, especially that chorus!

I think its time for a Kim Wilde singles rate on the retro forum soon tbh!

"Kids In America" is one of the many songs that reminds me of playing GTA: Vice City as a kid, my favourite game of all time wub.gif The soundtrack on that was just immense and introduced me to the 80s.

'Cambodia' is one I've regularly gone back to over the years. wub.gif

I don't know a lot of her discography though. Her finest moment was her rendition of 'Kids In America' when she was on the tube.

If you mean Eminem’s ‘Stan’ then it was Bob The Builder ‘Can We Fix It?’

You Came is erring a bit too much on the Stock Aitken Waterman side of 80s pop music but it is alright!

Surprised at Ezra, really doesn't sound commercial at all and I haven't seen it around anywhere either ohmy.gif

All this talk of Kim Wilde and I'm surprised no one's mentioned any of her early 90s stuff. 'Love Is Holy' and 'Heart Over Mind' were pop classics, and her cover of 'If I Can't Have You' was cheesy but pretty decent too. I'm actually intrigued now to hear what her new single's going to sound like.

Completely disagree about it not sounding commercial - it sounds like he's really pushed a commercial sound on both "Don't Matter Now" and particularly "Paradise" to me!
