woo! Starships (or anything but Super Bass) to win!

hopefully one of Massive Attack, Did It On Em and Right By Your Side are last.

Posted by: Cremey 20th September 2017, 03:31 PM

Really hoping NONE of those three are last.
I’d also be happy with ‘Super Bass’ not winning though, definitely here for a ‘Starships’ win! I imagine they’ll be top 2?

Hoping ‘Only’ and ‘Looking Ass’ do better than I’m imagining them doing.

Justice for "Girl on Fire"!

47. Lookin Ass
Nicki Minaj

Average - 4.56
Lovers - 11 (Cremey) // 8 (Riser)
Haters - 0 (UltraReputation, liamk97, THEO, Saenerys)

Poor Cremey as his 11 drops out already sad.gif Lookin Ass was a buzz single thrown out in 2014 and was put on to the Young Money compilation album "Rise of an Empire". It wasn't really a big success failing to make the top 100 in both the US and the UK and is pretty forgotten nowadays. Personally, I'm not that huge on it as the expletives go a bit far in my opinion and makes me wince a bit hearing it. It missed my personal top 60 countdown by quite a big margin heehee.gif

46. Dance (A$$) (Remix)
Big Sean feat. Nicki Minaj

Average - 4.96
Lovers - 10 (Josh, THEO, Cremey)
Haters - 0 (Sean, liamk97, UltraReputation) // 1 (george.keh, Cameron)

I was really hoping this would do a bit better than second last but urban tracks always struggle a bit more on Buzzjack and I guess I can see why people find this a bit messy and not exactly easy on the ears. I've always found it to be a pretty bop and it always goes OFF at parties and things like that. It didn't make the top 100 in the UK but was a big success on the US Hot 100 where it had a peak of #10. I feel like this would be pretty big if it was released nowadays and is definitely the sort of thing that does well on Spotify and streaming websites!

SO FAR..

Okay that is ridiculous, "Dance Ass" is a f***ing banger mad.gif

Posted by: Cremey 20th September 2017, 05:05 PM

Um WHAT at these results so far! Might just resign as mod straight away :’(
Didn’t think either of them would do overly well but wasn’t expecting either to be bottom 2! 😭

45. 2012 (It Ain't The End)
Jay Sean feat. Nicki Minaj

Average - 5.29
Lovers - 9 (Cameron) // 8 (Spadam, george.keh, Mack, leewallace)
Haters - 0 (UltraReputation, Saenerys) // 2 (THEO)

One of her most forgettable features here and most people gave it a pretty average score so it doesn't do great here. I was expecting it to finish slightly higher but it's no loss at all so I'm not that bothered. I used to really adore this and played it all the time when it was first released but it hasn't really stood the test of time and I forget it exists most of the time nowadays. It was a top 10 hit in the UK and top 40 in the US too so it did decently in the charts at least.

44. Massive Attack
Nicki Minaj feat. Sean Garrett

Average - 5.42
Lovers - 9 (Andrew, Jade, Liam, Cremey, Jonjo)
Haters - 0 (UltraReputation) // -1 (HarryEzra)

I always recall this being quite popular in Buzzjack but it seems I'm mistaken as it doesn't do too great here even if it does a few fans. This is one of my personal least favourite Nicki tracks and I always sort of act like it doesn't exist and that the far superior "Your Love" was actually her lead single. It's pretty cheap sounding anyway and has too much Sean Garrett and not enough Nicki Minaj so I can't say I enjoy it all that much to be completely honest.

SO FAR..
47. Lookin Ass (4.56)
46. Dance (A$$) (Remix) (4.96)
45. 2012 (It Ain't the End) (5.29)

Bye to all of those cheer.gif

43. Did It On Em
Nicki Minaj

Average - 5.44
Lovers - 9 (Andrew) // 8.5 (StillJupiter)
Haters - 1 (Cameron) // -1 (UltraReputation, THEO)

Did It On Em was the sixth single from Pink Friday and reached a peak of #49 on the US Hot 100. It's probably the most aggressive track on the album in sound and therefore pretty divisive. It's certainly not the most melodic track on the album and not really a highlight in any way but it's still a bit of a bop even if it's not really single material.

42. Stupid Hoe
Nicki Minaj

Average - 5.44 (more 9s)
Lovers - 9 (Andrew, Harry, Liam, Sean, Jack, Cremey)
Haters - 0 (leewallace) // -1 (Jade, Davidson, Mack)

Stupid Hoe was relegated to 'promo single' status but at least it made the album unlike "Roman In Moscow" (which is so much better in my opinion sad.gif). The video is one of her most vibrant and fun videos of them all and helped the song reach a peak of #59 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song also charted in the UK at #63. It seems that you either love it or hate it on Buzzjack as it gets a fair bit of love but also the joint most -1s for any song in the rate with three of you giving it the dreaded negative score. I do find it pretty catchy but it's a bit too noisy and silly to be a proper favourite of mine.

Stupid Hoe flopping! cheer.gif good results so far. 2012 was 5 years ago so I don't really count that as a loss either laugh.gif

Fine with all the songs out so far.

Posted by: HarryEzra 20th September 2017, 10:41 PM

The only loss for me is Stupid Hoe sad.gif

Posted by: danG 20th September 2017, 10:46 PM

Dance (A$$) that low, really?? I'm sure it'd be higher if it had a UK release.

Posted by: StillJupiter 21st September 2017, 08:46 AM

Hate how popular pop Nicki is... if Starships, Pound and Super Bass could stay out of top 5 that would be fab <3 (as if!)

Posted by: liamk97 21st September 2017, 01:14 PM

No casualties yet. The correct bottom 2 there; just nothing appealing about them at all.

Slightly surprised '2012' is out already but it's no biggy as it's so dated now and completely throwaway.

Posted by: Jack 22nd September 2017, 12:12 PM

Stupid Hoe is misunderstood :'( what a bop.

41. Rake It Up
Yo Gotti feat. Nicki Minaj

Average - 5.68
Lovers - 10 (Andrew, Cremey) // 9 (DanG, Jupiter)
Haters - -1 (Jack, leewallace) // 1 (george.keh)

This is similar to Dance A$$ where I think this is just a bit too noisy to really have too many fans. Pretty much the same goes for this where I think it's a massive party anthem and a proper catchy tune music.gif The video is also one of the best of Nicki's career in my opinion. Very pleased to see it doing so well in the US even though it seems like it's unlikely to crossover to the UK now sad.gif

40. Get Like Me
Nelly feat. Pharrell & Nicki Minaj

Average - 5.72
Lovers - 9 (Spadam, Jade, Mack)
Haters - 1 (george.keh) // 2 (Jack, THEO)

In all honesty, this is probably the track that I'm least familiar with on the whole list. I do remember it existing and listening to it a couple of times circa 2013 but it's not a track I go back to at all and is pretty forgettable. I actually had to re-listen to this when voting just to give it a fair rate because I didn't really remember a thing about it. It's pretty harmless but not the most memorable or exciting track so this sort of ranking is probably fair.

39. Love More
Chris Brown feat. Nicki Minaj

Average - 5.80
Lovers - 10 (burbe) // 8.5 (Josh, Spadam)
Haters - 0 (UltraReputation) // 1 (george.keh)

I'm actually shocked at how high this has got (I know that #39 isn't exactly high but it could be worse) because I know Chris Brown isn't all that appreciated on this site so this is a decent surprise in my opinion. It got mainly middling scores but I've always really enjoyed it and found it really catchy. It was a top 40 hit in both US & UK and is a track I still go back to a lot.

38. Regret In Your Tears
Nicki Minaj

Average - 6.00
Lovers - 9 (all is vanity) // 8 (burbe, Cremey)
Haters - 1.5 (Cameron) // 3 (liamk97)

Nicki released Regret In Your Tears as part of a three single release earlier in the year but is pretty forgotten as No Frauds seemed to get the most attention of the three tracks. It's a more laidback and slower song from Nicki and is quite lovely but not really much of an event so I'm not shocked to see it pretty low here.

37. Give Me All Your Luvin'
Madonna feat. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A

Average - 6.02
Lovers - 11 (UltraReputation) // 9 (Andrew)
Haters - 0 (burbe) // 1 (Saenerys)

Give Me All Your Luvin' was the lead single from MDNA and was a decent sized hit in the UK making #37 in charts whilst it reached the top 10 in the US. I thought it was pretty disliked on here and I guess it is pretty low here considering how many big Madonna fans there are on the site. My favourite memory of this is M.I.A and Nicki coming out and performing it with Madonna at the Superbowl wub.gif

36. No Frauds
Nicki Minaj feat. Lil Wayne & Drake

Average - 6.04
Lovers - 9 (Jupiter) // 8 (leewallace, DanG, Andrew, Spadam, Jade, THEO)
Haters - 0 (UltraReputation) // 2 (Saenerys)

No Frauds was the song that got the biggest push from her three single release in early 2017 and was a top 20 hit in the US but unfortunately missed the top 40 here in the UK sad.gif It probably won't make the album tracklist now but I think it works pretty well as a single that just serves as a diss to Remy Ma. Some of the lyrics are pretty scathing from Nicki but Remy's track "Shether" which triggered this response was just as bad :/

Posted by: UltraReputation 24th September 2017, 09:06 PM

omg not Stupid Hoe & Give Me All Your Luvin already out sad.gif The former is such a bop and the latter is so underrated, I love it so much! <3

Posted by: John-James 24th September 2017, 09:18 PM

Oh I wish I'd voted in this. Seeing Lookin' Ass right at the bottom is ridiculous. Pretty happy with everything else

Posted by: Saenerys 25th September 2017, 06:27 PM

HOW IS STUPID HOE OUT???

Posted by: HausofSZA 25th September 2017, 06:55 PM

Stupid Hoe deserved so much better. Yes it's divisive but it's SO MUCH FUN. An absolute banger. Can't really complain at many of the other ones that have dropped out so far (even the Madonna one, I enjoy it but it's FAR from amazing)

Posted by: liamk97 26th September 2017, 12:09 PM

Yeah, no surprises nor losses with the past few songs. 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' can be catchy at times but was ultimately a huge misstep for Madonna. Nicki's verse is the best part of the song; another Nicki rap I've mastered! biggrin.gif

35. She Came to Give It to You
Usher feat. Nicki Minaj

Average - 6.18
Lovers - 9.5 (HarryEzra) // 9 (Liam, george.keh, all is vanity)
Haters - 0 (THEO, UltraReputation) // 3 (Jack)

This was originally intended to be the second single for Usher's album Hard II Love but didn't perform that great worldwide so was relegated to being on the Japanese edition only. It made #16 in the UK charts but exited the singles chart pretty swiftly and it only made #89 in the US so it wasn't not a great success for either artist really. Personally, I found it pretty catchy at the time but could barely tell you how it goes now to be honest drama.gif

34. Trini Dem Girls
Nicki Minaj feat. Lunchmoney Lewis

Average - 6.34
Lovers - 10 (Andrew, Jade, THEO, Ultra) // 9.5 (Davidson)
Haters - -1 (Liam, george.keh, Cameron)

Trini Dem Girls was the 7th single from The Pinkprint and didn't really perform very well in the charts but that's probably due to how late in the campaign it came. It seemed to be pretty popular amongst fans but it's always been my least favourite track on the album and probably in my bottom three tracks of hers ever now. I find the chorus VERY irritating which completely ruins my enjoyment of the entire song...

33. Beauty and a Beat
Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj

Average - 6.36
Lovers - 10 (Spadam, Harry, george.keh)
Haters - -1 (Sean) // 0 (Riser, Ultra)

I wasn't expecting this to come so low actually but I guess Bieber was a lot more Marmite back when he released this and hadn't quite reached his current level of popularity even if he was starting to break out from his traditional fanbase. This is one of my personal favourite Bieber tracks (probably due to the Nicki addition, I guess) but I've always found it a catchy pop track with a lot to like.

32. Right By My Side
Nicki Minaj feat. Chris Brown

Average - 6.50
Lovers - 9 (Andrew, Spadam, Cremey)
Haters - 2 (Dan), 3 (Cameron)

It seems that this didn't really have many lovers or haters, mainly receiving middling scores from most (including me heehee.gif). In hindsight, I probably should've given this at least a 9 because it is one of the stronger tracks on Roman Reloaded in my opinion and both artists work very well together. It didn't even make the top 50 in the UK or the US so not the biggest charts success but I'm glad we got a video for it at least.

Average - 6.50 (more 10s)
Lovers - 10 (Cremey, Josh) // 9 (Liam)
Haters - 2.5 (Ultra) // 4 (Cameron, liamk97)

This one has actually shocked me at how high it's come. It's come as no surprise that Nicki's urban tracks have struggled in this rate here on Buzzjack but this has done surprisingly well considering it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. It's an absolute party anthem so I'm glad it has some fans outside of me and Cremey heehee.gif

30. Make Me Proud
Drake feat. Nicki Minaj

Average - 6.52
Lovers - 10 (Cremey, Josh) // 9 (Theo)
Haters - 2 (Ultra) // 3 (Cameron, Sean)

Same goes for this really where I'm shocked it's done quite well (even though I'd have it much higher if it were up to me). It was a big hit stateside (making the top 10 there) but wasn't huge in the UK, much like Bottoms Up too actually laugh.gif

"Trini dem Girls" is an ANTHEM! It really clicked with me when I heard it out, love it so much wub.gif

29. Only
Nicki Minaj feat. Chris Brown, Lil Wayne & Drake

Average - 6.68
Lovers - 10 (Andrew, george.keh, Jupiter, Cremey)
Haters - 0 (Sean) // 2 (Ultra, liamk97)

"Only" was the third single from The Pinkprint and one of the biggest hits from the album peaking at #12 in the US and also making the top 40 in the UK. It caused a lot of controversy with a Nazi inspired lyric video that was released online but Nicki stated she was not involved with the making of that and regretted not overseeing the lyric video making process before it released. It's one of the least poppy singles in her discography so I'm pretty pleased it's come this high at all really but it does have a few haters here on Buzzjack too sad.gif

28. Truffle Butter
Nicki Minaj feat. Drake & Lil Wayne

Average - 6.74
Lovers - 10 (Andrew, Jade, Harry, Jupiter, Cremey)
Haters - 1 (Ultra) // 2 (Liam, george.keh)

This will forever go down as one of the biggest missed opportunities from The Pinkprint in my opinion. The fact it was only a bonus track in the first track is pretty crazy considering how popular it ended up being but then she took ages to release it as a single and then didn't even give it a music video ?!?! laugh.gif It managed to overcome these problems in the US and peaked at #14 there but didn't even make the top 100 here in the UK (it was clearly very popular though as it actually certified silver here!! ohmy.gif)

Nicki Minaj feat. Cassie

Average - 6.86
Lovers - 10 (UltraReputation) // 9 (Liam, Jack, Haus, Jonjo)
Haters - 3 (Spadam) // 4.5 (Davidson)

This is a track that I've never really got the hype with at all and is one of my least favourite Nicki singles. It's alright but there's nothing special to it at all in my opinion and is also a little irritating at times. It got mainly middling scores here so manages a decent position despite very few big lovers of the track. It pretty much flopped worldwide narrowly missing the top 100 in both the UK & US and is only really known by proper Nicki fans nowadays.

26. Your Love
Nicki Minaj

Average - 6.96
Lovers - 11 (Harry) // 10 (Haus)
Haters - 3 (george.keh) // 4 (Sean, Lee, DanG)

One of the very first Nicki tracks I ever heard and the beginning of me falling in love with her as an artist wub.gif It was a big hit in the US peaking at #14 and was a minor hit in the UK too making this her main introductory single setting her up for bigger smashes in the future with Super Bass & Check It Out. It seems to be pretty forgotten nowadays but it still has some big lovers on Buzzjack wub.gif

"Truffle Butter" is another great song to hear out and it's much better than "Only" thanks to there being no Chris Brown - I'm actually quite surprised to see them pretty much neck and neck.

Posted by: ta spin go skrra 3rd October 2017, 02:40 PM

Sorry but The Boys is kinda awful :/

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd October 2017, 02:42 PM

I didn't vote in this (mainly as I couldn't be arsed to listen to all those random features I don't care to hear), but there aren't any real casualties for me so far.

Posted by: Cremey 3rd October 2017, 07:15 PM

I should absolutely LOVE 'The Boys' because Cassie is my favourite female singer (alongside Rihanna) but it's a bit of a letdown for me :'(
I still like it a lot but don't love it like I feel I should. Actually surprised to see it as high as 27, I thought it was pretty forgotten!

Posted by: HausofSZA 4th October 2017, 08:46 PM

OK wtf at Your Love being 26th!?!?!??! It's my 2nd/3rd favourite song from her overall. A JOKE :/

The Boys is absolutely brilliant too wub.gif Also loving Only, Right By My Side and Make Me Proud. Gosh this is getting tough saying goodbye to everything now lmao BUT SRSLY YOUR LOVE 26th"?!?!?!

25. Beez in the Trap
Nicki Minaj feat. 2 Chainz

Average - 6.98
Lovers - 11 - Andrew, Liam/b]
[b]Haters - ) // 0 - THEO.

I'm personally surprised this one is so high! Our general topic inspiration, Beez In the Trap makes it in at 25. It's kinda catchy and is one I remember quite well from the second album. The styling in the video for me is a little off, especially the makeup but it's definitely not her worst!

Posted by: Spun's Labyrinth 5th October 2017, 06:26 PM

Not sure why I managed to get into Beez... after hating it along the same lines as Stupid Hoe laugh.gif I do quite like the production in the former though tongue.gif

Posted by: Josh! 6th October 2017, 01:20 PM

I was shocked at how Beez in the Trap is here too ohmy.gif It's done really rather well for one of her least poppy/accessible singles!

It's definitely memorable so it has that going for it heehee.gif wub.gif

24th 7.06 Check It Out // 10 (Ultra) // -1 (Haus)

Clearly some divided opinion on our next song - Check It Out. I completely forgot that Cheryl Tweedy Cole Fernadez-Versni Payne had featured on a song with Nicki and it's astounding to think now it actually happened laugh.gif I like Nicki's part on this but Cheryl ruins it completely for me, as does will.i.am but I'm prepared to overlook that as hes had much worse kink.gif

Disgusting song. Worst thing she's ever put her name to ~

23rd 7.08 Bed of Lies // 10 (Andrew, Sean) // 5 (liamk, Haus), 4 (DanG)

Up next we have one of my absolute favourite Nicki Minaj songs, Bed Of Lies (ft. Skylar Grey). I love this track in particular (sorry that Liam, Bal and Dan don't xo) as it is another side of Nicki we don't always get to see. It's definitely more vulnerable and emotional than most of her other tracks and I think the piano and feature definitely reign it in perfectly. The promotion of this one includes performances at the AMA and Ellen which is a shame because I'd have LOVED this to smash here in the UK.

Nah it's proper cringe at the ending (no one cares if you're a Rottweiler) and Nicki can do better than featuring with Cheryl, imo.

Posted by: Josh! 8th October 2017, 06:47 PM

Bed of Lies is a bit dull really! I was hooked on it when it was first released but I think that's just because it was new Nicki music and I went off it pretty quickly. She has way better ballads anyway and could probably do the song better on her own with her singing voice on the chorus instead of Skylar Grey tbh.

22nd 7.14 Freedom // 11 (Davidson), 10 (Ultra) // 4 (Jade & Sean

Up next we have Freedom. I think in hindsight I was probably too harsh on this one but Davidson has given it 11 so it definitely has it's fans here! I think I'd have put this at a six in isolation but in context of the rest of her discography it's not as good. I do love the slower parts after the first bit of rapping and I am a total sucker for the black and white aesthetic in the video! Nicki is serving so many looks in the video too which is definitely one of the bonuses of the song! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Spun's Labyrinth 9th October 2017, 07:47 AM

Freedom is really good! wub.gif glad the lowest it got was 4, CIO is a jam too but it does rely on the sample a bit laugh.gif BOL is pretty nice as well if not a bit forgettable

Freedom is lovely but not a standout in her discography at all. I doubt much of the general public remember it at all so I'm pretty pleased with how well it's done here, it seems like one of her most underrated tracks in general sad.gif

21st 7.22 Pills N Potions // 10 (Sean, Ultra) // 1 (Lee), 4 (george.keh)

Up next we have one of my favourite Nicki Minaj songs. It isn't groundbreaking by any means I just have memories of listening to this during my freshers year approaching the time I moved out of halls! laugh.gif I don't like some of the editing in the video but some of the simple effective lyrics like "I'm angry but I still love you" and "Yo, people will love you and support you when it's beneficial" which are all the more relatable as well. It's the stripped down less in your face Nicki we get on this and I think that's why I like it so much and gave it a 10. In relation to the album I think it fits with some of the themes on The Pinkprint brilliantly and I think it was the perfect lead just before Anaconda took over and made the era explode.

It is lovely but a bit overshadowed by the more uptempo and exciting tracks on The Pinkprint for me. In that sense, I'm quite glad it was the lead single because I feel it would be pretty overlooked otherwise.

20th 7.32 Bang Bang // 10 (Josh, Liam, george.keh, Jack, Sean, Theo, Ultra) // -1 (Jupiter), 0 (Lee)

IT'S NICKI FULL THROTTLE IT'S OH OH, QUEEN NICKI DOMINANT PROMINENT, IT'S ME, Jessie and Ari. Without being exceptionally bias given Jessica J doesn't get that much time of day on Buzzjack, Nicki fully saves Bang Bang which comes in at 20th in our singles rate. Jessie's parts are far from the highlight as Nicki just dominants quite rightly kink.gif and is looking exceptional in the video - how was it released three years ago? It's interesting to see all the combinations of Ari and Nicki but this is probably one of the most known after Side To Side I'd bet and it is a pleasant listen to say the least. The wave in the video cracks me up (see gif below) and it was the perfect way for Nicki to build a bit of hype pre-Pinkprint in my opinion whilst helping Jessie out by getting a hit xo

19. Fly
Nicki Minaj feat. Rihanna

Average - 7.38
Lovers - 10 (UtraReputation & Josh!)
Haters - -1 (Cremey)

I always thought this was actually a bit hated here on Buzzjack so I was shocked at first that it even got this high. It was a bit higher on my personal countdown but this is a decent placing for a song that seems to be a bit marmite. Rih and Nicki have done two collars together and this is the only one that's really deserving of praise. I think most people expect a bit more from these two ladies coming together on a song but at least it's better than "Raining Men"...

Posted by: Spun's Labyrinth 12th October 2017, 08:35 AM

I don’t mind it but it’s got old now.

Posted by: THEO. 12th October 2017, 10:08 AM

No surprise to see "Fly" (and "Bang Bang") so low. Like you, I would have expected the former to be even lower but to be honest for a Nicki rate, these averages are very strong for the top 20! I'm expecting at least the top ten and maybe a couple of outsiders to score over 8.00!

This is another one that I'm a bit shocked how high it is considering how disliked it is by some. It did get a few low scores as you can see but a surprising amount of high ones too so it has ended up doing pretty decently. This came top 10 in my personal countdown so I'm definitely on the love side of the spectrum. It's a complete banger and I'm not really sure what there is to dislike about it really? ohmy.gif

Nicki Minaj

Average - 7.62
Lovers - 10 (Davidson)
Haters - 5 (Sean, Mack, Cameron)

One of Nicki's earlier offerings and one of her most underrated and overlooked tracks in my opinion so I'm glad it has come pretty high. Only Davidson gave big love to it (in hindsight, I'd have probably given it a 10 too) but not many haters either so it's scored a decent average here.

Posted by: Jade-o-Lantern🎃 13th October 2017, 09:48 PM

There's something about 'Right Thru Me' that really reels me in! I distinctly remember seeing the video for the first time on Starz TV and thinking it didn't really sound like a hit, but that it was a really nice song to chill to. Her vocals are so lush on it and I also really like the backing vocals on the chorus! I agree that it's underrated.

Haters - 4 (Cremey) // 5 (DanG)

I can see why this is so popular because it is one of her most poppy offerings in recent years but I've always found it a bit naff in comparison to her other pop hits if I'm being completely honest. It's a cute little track and catchy enough but her previous pop smashes like Pound the Alarm and Starships are SOOOOO much more exciting in my opinion. I like this a fair bit but it wouldn't be anywhere this high in my own countdown (didn't even make my top 60 laugh.gif)

Posted by: Davidson 15th October 2017, 10:16 PM

'Right Thru Me' is wonderful and is in my top 5 Nicki songs, it is just so good.

'The Night Is Still Young' should not be anywhere near that high. It's her worst 'pop' song for me, even all the 'Roman Reloaded' pop album tracks are strong than it. Nicki at her most basic.

Average - 7.68

Haters - 3 (Cremey) // 5 (Liam, Sean, Jupiter)

This really isn't the sort of track that I was expecting to pick up multiple 11s or come this high either so I'm really rather shocked about that ohmy.gif When it was first announced, there were loads of #1 chart debut predictions going around due to Major Lazer being hot off smash hits Lean On & Light It Up as well as Nicki being a huge star too but unfortunately, the track is a lot less exciting than those and the video took forever to come so it ended up being a minor hit. I'd have loved to hear Nicki on a proper banger like those tracks but this was nice enough and gave me my Nicki fix for a few months before I got a bit bored of it.

I've said before how it took me way too long to really appreciate this. I never was the biggest fan of it when The Re-Up first came out but now it is one of my favourite Nicki tracks ever. It is one of the most perfect party tunes and my group of friends always used to play it at pre-drinks and we all knew the words. Just a bit of a bop really, glad it's done pretty well here. Nicki looks completely amazing in the video too *-*

I feel the same way! laugh.gif Such a simple chorus but the song always induces such a feeling of euphoria. I really like the slightly indistinguishable backing vocals she does on the chorus in particular (queen of layering more vox on top of others). Nicki's first real big smash hit and probably one of her most remembered classics so I do feel like this is a little low but it is probably not as suited to Buzzjack's general taste compared to her more poppy hits. She has a pretty killer verse on this but everyone delivers their A game on this absolute bop so it does feel like less of a Nicki track than some of those still to come.

There are some very polarised scores on this one from Cameron and Joe in particular! laugh.gif it does seem like a very there track and doesn't really explode for me at anypoint in comparison to the likes of Swalla or Stupid Hoe, which are instant moments in a club for example. Only Nicki would mention Madonna, rhyme Donatella with Mozzarella and do it all pretty effectively.

In at 11 is one of Nicki's more recent features with Jason Derulo (I didn't even think he'd be big enough to collab with Nicki!?) and Ty Dolla $ign. I really think this is an absolute club banger and the catchy instrumental feels very retro/throwback and sets up for Nicki's feature perfectly. Despite looking like a superhero in a Fleur East style background, Nicki delivers a very accessible guest rap chorus brilliantly and I love the visor she wears as well, coming for that new trend wink.gif to answer Josh's earlier question, I can't believe Swalla was still in and has made it this high but I think that's probably because it's more on trend than most of the material and wouldn't rate so highly in a rate in the future.

Posted by: Jo...shh! It's coming 23rd October 2017, 07:34 PM

I was SO shocked when adding up results that Swalla was anywhere near the top 10. I thought most people (like me) bopped to it a bit but found it a bit cheesy and silly at the end of the day. A bit gutted it has beaten out so many Nicki classics when it's a bit shit rly... sad.gif

Let's see how it ages.

For me that's what goes against Dominoes, at the time it was fresh and a real original thing for Nicki to do, but for me it really hasn't aged well and puts Nicki back into a weird indie-rapper box instead of Queen of Rap Ladies.

Opening the top ten we have the David Guetta team up with Flo-Rida with Where Them Girls At. The high energy power and one of Nicki's earlier ventures, this has snuck in just ahead of Swalla. It sounds like your typical David Guetta track from earlier the 2010's, which surprises me it coming this high as I thought it would have been forgotten in the midst of other gems.

Can we appreciate this screenshot though from the video?

Up next on our top ten countdown is what I'd define as Nicki's signature and massive moment, Anaconda. This is shamefully a MASSIVE jam for me and is one of the ones I enjoy rapping. I t really is like three songs in one for me with the slower part at the beginning, the chorus part and of course, the bit at the end where Nicki is basically talking kink.gif To match this fantastic song the video was brilliant and was a massive improvement on the previous video of Pills N Potions, with Nicki delivering both looks and discussion for many a reason. Here are a few GIFS for the lazy among you who wont' rewatch the video kink.gif

Not only that, Anaconda sent the internet into frenzy with several photoshops onto the singles artwork and quite amusing some of them were. Simple, but effective me thinks.

I do really think this is a massive moment for Nicki - I'd even argue alongside Starships this is her signature hit.

SWISH SWISH BISH, ANOTHER SONG IN THE BASKET. Up next at 8 we have Nicki Minaj featuring Katy Perry (kink) with Swish Swish. There genuinely seems to be a polarised opinion on Buzzjack over Swish Swish, with myself, Liam and All Is Vanity leading the way giving it an 11 each, with my fellow mod Josh giving it a 6. For me this is Nicki's best guest rap - it's absolutely flawless and fits the song perfectly from the "Katy Perry, Young Money" intro to the "I already despise you, all that fake love you showing couldn't even disguise you", with the best bit probably being "RAN? WHEN? NICKI GETTING TAN? MIRROR MIRROR WHOSE THE FAIREST BITCH IN ALL THE LAND?", just as iconic as the feature on Monster. There is something so euphoric about hearing this on a night out or on the radio, it's definitely an instant feel good moment wub.gif It's clearly a track about Taylor Swift as shes had beef with both Katy and Nicki over the years, which is probably why Ultra gave it a -1 with this being the perfect response to the original nasty diss track Bad Blood.

Sneaking in just ahead by 0.04 we have Va Va Voom, from Nicki's second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Given the album is definitely my favourite of Nicki's, this song is fantastic for me and is distinctly Nicki. Va Va Voom comes in at 7, having one 11 that comes from Lee and several 10s including Bal, myself and Jade, the last of which I have seen raving about this track, particularly when the AF launched last month. It's a fantastic Nicki track with some more yet great lyrics and production - the "I-I-I" repetition before launching into the chorus particularly stands out and of course the reference to the Green Goblin kink.gif

"Swish" is a tune - definitely deserving of a place in the top 10! "Va Va Voom"...not so much.

Swish Swish is an utter tune!

06. Turn Me On
Average - 8.78
Lovers - 11 (Josh, THEO & Harry)
Haters - 4 (Cremey) // 6 (Riser)

This has always been my favourite Nicki/Guetta collar of the many they have done and it seems you guys agree as it is the highest track between the two on the countdown. It mainly features Nicki singing but she does get a short verse to show off a little catchy rap too. The chorus is one of the catchiest in her discography in my opinion and one of my favourite tracks by anyone this decade to date.

I think I've probably said this for every single song but Nicki's rap on "Turn Me On" is one of my faves! The chiropractor line particularly *_* A little sad that it missed the top five but I have no idea what's still to come.

Oops at us dropping the 'countdown so far' part!!

In alphabetical order:
Moment 4 Life
Pound the Alarm
Side to Side
Starships
Super Bass

What a top five *.*

05. Side to Side
Average - 8.84
Lovers - 10 (Josh, Liam, Sean, THEO, Burbe, Cameron, all is vanity, Jonjo)
Haters - 5 (Jade) // 6 (DanG)

Missing out on the top four due to lack of 11s (despite getting plenty of 10s) is one of Nicki's biggest hits in the last couple of years. I'm surprised it wasn't a pre-album single for Ariana to be honest but fortunately, it was picked as the third single from Dangerous Woman and it ended up being a global smash. This is definitely my favourite of the two Nicki & Ariana collabs and I'm still so glad it was massive after such a fantastic video too wub.gif

Turn Me On is decent, Side to Side excellent.

Of the four remaining I'd hope to see Pound the Alarm at #4 as it's to me by far the weakest in the top 5.

Posted by: THEO. 30th October 2017, 09:11 PM

Oh shit! What a top five! *.* I'm glad that "Side to Side" is #5, as great as it is, the Nicki rate really should have songs with her as the lead right at the top. I would love for "Moment 4 Life" to make the top two/three but I feel like it's going to be #4 sad.gif

BODY SMOKING SO THEY CALL ME YOUNG NICKI CHIMINEY

Side to side really was the track to make me love both artists. It will be a classic and the video is just laugh.gif

04. Moment 4 Life
Average - 8.84
Lovers - 11 (Jade, Jupiter, Haus)
Haters - 6 (Cameron, liamk97)

The second highest track from Pink Friday (of course, Super Bass is yet to come!!) lands in fourth place here. I'm chuffed this has come so high as I wouldn't have predicted it at the start of the rate but it has managed to beat out so many of her poppier/dancier big smash hits which is really rather impressive. It does seem like one of her most fondly remembered tracks by the general public too and has really stood the test of time. A future rap classic perhaps?!

POUND THE ALARM VS. STARSHIPS VS. SUPER BASS
Any predictions?

Turn Me On and Side To Side two of her best features wub.gif

Yes at Moment 4 Life too cheer.gif

03. Pound the Alarm
Average - 9.16
Lovers - 11 (Mack & Cameron)
Haters - 6 (Jade) // 7 (Andrew & Haus)

The first of three tracks to have an average of above 9 *.* It probably comes as no surprise that the big pop solo singles from Nicki have made up the top three and this was the smallest hit of the three so not a surprising bronze medal at all. It's a catchy track and I still have loads of fun listening to it but the drop does sound a little nowadays and I personally wouldn't have it this high.

Can't believe I didn't rate Pound the Alarm lower than 8! What was I thinking??

It's not bad but really not top 3 material for me ohmy.gif

Posted by: THEO. 2nd November 2017, 08:50 PM

Yeah that seems really odd that "Pound the Alarm" is top three - it doesn't feel like one of her biggest hits nor is it really well-remembered outside of the hardcore fans of her pop music.

"Starships" has probably won even if I want "Super Bass" to win laugh.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 2nd November 2017, 08:58 PM

Turn Me On/Side To Side *.* Ew at Swish coming top 10 (and its not even just the obvious Taylor connections why I hate it, if it wasn't about Taylor it'd still probs only be about 2 a for me kink.gif).

Happy with either winner tbh <3

02. Starships
Average - 9.24
Lovers - 11 (DanG) // 10 (Josh, Andrew, Spadam, Harry, Liam, Sean, THEO, George.keh, burbe, Cameron, Cremey, all is vanity, liamk97, UltraReputation)
Haters - 7 (Jade & Haus)

01. Super Bass
Average - 9.60
Lovers - 11 (Jack, THEO, burbe, liamk97, Jonjo, Ultra) // 10 (Josh, Andrew, Spadam, Harry, Liam, Sean, George.keh, Davidson, Mack, Cameron, Lee, Riser)
Haters - 4 (DanG)

It was never going to not be these two in the top two but thankfully you guys picked the right winner!! wub.gif Both of these are hopefully future classics and showcase how good Nicki is at pure pop too. Everyone knows the words to these tracks and can rap the verses which just show how far her music has reached in comparison to some other female rappers of the past. Definitely the right top two even if Starships wouldn't be this high on my own countdown.

Thanks for all of the comments/votes along the way!! Full results in the post below.

Shook! Very very pleased to see "Super Bass" rightfully win this, definitely the song that made me start to stan her as an artist.

Thank you so much for hosting this! cheer.gif It's been really great to read through even if collectively Buzzjack made some questionable decisions.
