Yes to Charlie Puth being in the top 10 it is such a tune and could be #1 in my eoy chart. I also really love that lyric you posted for it. I pretty much love the rest of the top 10 especially Green Light and Symphony. Yaaas stan Charlie Puth Green Light and Symphony in the top 5 some of the highlights of 2017 tbh THey sure are *.* Taylor Swift and K3 ? Taylor's already been and I don't think I've heard a new K3 song all year Symphony is brilliant, Clean Bandit have been on fire the past few singles. Delighted to see it so high So pleased you loved Attention so much, even more than me! I think I prefer How Long but both are in my Charlie top 3 with We Don't Talk Anymore. I just can't get into How Long as much for some reason but WDTA is deffo a highlight <3 Very happy to see "Green Light" and "Symphony" on your Year-End list! Great to see Lorde back with full force on this song and "Symphony" might be an example of pop perfection! No might about it, it sure is pop perfection <3 |

02 Francesca Michielin - Vulcano
"Corro di notte, lampioni le stelle" UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A Just missing out on the top spot, and I did toy with it being number 1, is an Italian pop masterclass from X Factor Italia winner Francesca Michielin Her last album was brilliant and one of the best of 2016 (I didn't listen until the di20are version in 2016) but this is just another level. The cool and collected verses are typical of Francesca but there's a visceral explosion in the chorus that hits you like an eruption, which really fits as a contrast to the vocals. To think this towering 3 minutes of pop perfection only peaked at 44 in Italy, but I guess it did go platinum, it seems that local acts peak low and sell well. It gave me my elusive first BJSC winner too which was a shock to me, however much I loved it I expected like 20th but it couldn't have happened with a better song, I was pleased to see all the love for it (just not in TBO awks x). If you weren't in BJSC and didn't hear this and love pop, i couldn't recommend it or her in general enough <3 So that means the #1 is........... 01 Dua Lipa - New Rules "One, don't pick up the phone, you know he's only calling 'cause he's drunk and alone" UK peak: #1 US peak: #11 Of course it is! Dua had an incredible 2017, and it was topped off by her scoring one of the biggest hits of the year with this absolute BANGER. As soon as I heard the album which we FINALLY got earlier this year, I knew that this was something amazing. This song proved that even in a landscape where Despa-bloody-cito can be #1 for 11 weeks, sometimes all you need is a bloody brilliant pop song and a video that will catch on, and even as a 7th single success will follow. It was possibly the moment of the year musically seeing this rise to #1, finally cementing herself as a pop force to be reckoned with as her hits built and built. A pure pop song like this, brimming with production flares like horns, a fab drop and a killer melody, actually being appreciated on such a large scale, with seemingly everyone loving it, was amazing to see. It even had the honour of becoming somewhat of a meme with hilarious tweets about the rules circulating, as this empowering anthem makes us all feel like we assert ourselves and leave that f***boy at the door. Me, with absolutely nobody to let in: "YAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS DUA GIRL YOU TELL THEM, I'M LOCKNG THAT DOOR, THROWING AWAY THE KEY AND BURNING THE BIN WITH IT INSIDE!!!!!" |

I mean I can't say I'm surprised New Rules is amazing though, I don't think I've heard anything like it in the charts since I started listening to them, most certainly deserves the success it's getting
Vulcano is nice as well, hiding away there at #2 This post has been edited by PeteFromLeeds: 20th January 2018, 08:57 PM |

Incredible #1, one of the defining hits of 2017 and it was one of the most satisfying chart moments of the year to see it climb to #1

Amazing number 1 ofc it's become the song I think of when I think of 2017 now and I'm just so over the moon at how much this has launched Dua into stardom, she deserves it sooo much

Yasss Dua, New Rules is such a fantastic track, deserves all the universal appreciated it gets. I do really like Vulcano too, kudos to Francesca for coming back with something better than her Eurovision entry (which I actually always had a big soft spot for too).
Fab to see Wiktoria top 20, such a crime that it came 6th in Melfest, I just didn't get that result at all, it's the best pure pop song they'd had in the running in years and while I liked I Can't Go On, it was style over substance, and I can't imagine it would have won if he'd just stood there singing it with no show/props going on around him. 1UL is such an incredible track too. Like you say, it should have been a hit. In the hands of Bieber or whatever it would have been hailed as revolutionary, been huge, and pushed the genre into the mainstream. |
