OK I've been wanting to list what people are buying vs what streaming companies are playing. My conclusion? Streaming companies are favouring ancient Xmas songs and their own exclusives, this is most pronounced on brand new Xmas songs where Jess Glynne is top 10 on streaming and Beverley Knight nowhere to be seen, but on sales it's the reverse. Both are being played on radio, one is translating into sales, one isn't. Jess Glynne pops up in my Alexa "play christmas songs" requests, Beverley Knight doesn't. Alexa plays the songs that make up the more popular songs on the official charts, but not so much some of those higher up on the sales charts. The Most Popular Songs Of All-Time feature more-or less the same on both lists.
