From OCC
By Rob Copsey Now That’s What I Call Music! series and Frozen dominate the best-selling compilation albums of the year list. Now That’s What I Call Music 89 is the best-selling compilation album of 2014, OfficialCharts.com can reveal. Despite being released in November, the album - which features 45 tracks including nine Official Singles Chart Number 1s - tops the list of best-selling compilation of the year with sales of 954,000. The collection also holds the title of fastest-selling album of 2014 with impressive first-week sales of 283,000, overtaking the record set by its predecessor Now 88, which sold 224,000 in its opening week back in July. Now 89 fought off strong competition from Disney’s Frozen soundtrack, which finishes second place with sales of 937,000. The film’s signature song Let It Go - performed by Idina Menzel - also appears on the Biggest Selling Singles of 2014 list at Number 10 on 636,000. Meanwhile, at Numbers 2 and 3 on the best-sellers compilation list are Now 88 (sales of 701,000) and Now 87 (645,000), and completing the op 5 is Disney’s sing-a-long version of the Frozen soundtrack on 405,000. Elsewhere in the Top 40, there are a further 12 Now That’s What I Call Music! albums, including Now That’s What I Call Christmas (Number 7), Now That’s What I Call Disney (9), Now That’s What I Call A Million (17) and Now That’s What I Call Feel Good (20). you'd think with how dominant Frozen was that it would be #1 here but clearly the popularity of the Now series hasn't faded, good to see that #1 from a musical taste point of view although the Frozen soundtrack clearly has more cultural impact than Now 89

Not sure if I'm surprised by the lack of soundtracks or not. I suppose there weren't many big films that would sell soundtracks this year. |

Wow, Now completely dominant with all the spin-offs, no wonder they keep churning them out. Shame the Clubland series doesn't make the list anymore, although it stopped being great a long time ago. I used to love the unknown AATW stuff that filled the albums, now it's just like any other dance compilation.
I still don't get what was so great about Keep Calm and Chillout, boring tracklist yet it had weeks at #1 and has made the top ten here!?! |

The last time that a NOW failed to make it as the biggest compilation of the year was in 2008 when Mamma Mia OST outsold 69, 70 and 71

Shame the only 'compilation' album I actually bought this year (or indeed ever) isn't on here (the 'Mockingjay' soundtrack, which is amaze BTW ~)
Is that sing-along version of 'Frozen' just an instrumental version of the main soundtrack or something? |

If NOW Music didn't keep changing the release date for NOW Million, it would have topped the compilation chart and stopped "Keep Calm & Chillout" from hogging the top spot
