Posted by: Joe. Jan 8 2016, 11:39 AM

What's My name is my favourite Rihanna and Take Care is one of the best Drakes so I am excited for this!

Posted by: Liаm Jan 8 2016, 11:44 AM

Take Care wub.gif

WMN is one of the two most ridiculously overrated songs she's done along with We Found Love but I think that style again is one that might actually get her a hit so it might be best laugh.gif

Posted by: Atonement Jan 8 2016, 12:02 PM

Hopefully this will kickstart the album campaign finally. What I need from Rihanna is one mediocre album every year and a string of hits to go on each.

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 8 2016, 12:20 PM

I'm not holding out much hope, but the two previous Drake involvements were both amazing.

I really WANT to like her again.

Huh there were THREE singles??

Sounds rnb and why are there a million songs calles Work?

Yes - FourFiveSeconds, Bitch Better Have My Money and American Oxygen.

You can be forgiven since only FourFiveSeconds really became a chart hit. Bitch Better Have My Money did become a big cultural hit but it didn't translate into chart success. American Oxygen did nothing.

I think she's truly trying to ditch her pop girl image and be an urban girl which works for me but I do still wanna see her deliver a WFL type smash again. The snippets sound okay, not amazing, but their not very clear so i'll hold out. Come on Rih pull through, I didn't buy Golden Circle at Wembley for nothing

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Jan 10 2016, 03:47 PM

What is a big cultural hit??

That's the one I forgot tbf.

This is beyond Attpop now tbh.

Both were great tho (but WMN was obviously a big highlight in that era wub.gif)

I'm not putting my hopes up even if she did go to the desperate lengths of featuring Drake again tbh. I will still give it a listen though.

Posted by: Dan_ Jan 12 2016, 07:34 AM

OH MY GOD dancing.gif

What's My Name is an 11/10 moment so this should be great!!

Posted by: Virginia's Walls Jan 12 2016, 07:52 AM

The clips eere messy tbh :/ No 11/10 moment

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Jan 12 2016, 10:42 AM

'Take Care' is way more interesting than 'What's My Name'.

Posted by: Froot. Jan 12 2016, 10:47 AM

Not on Rihanna's part really considering it was a sample/cover.

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 12 2016, 11:29 PM

I think Rihanna delivered one of her most emotive moments ever on her part in that song though, she sounded so warm in her delivery like she properly connected with the lyric and its meaning. I hold both songs in very high regard for her though!

I can't hear the clips as the Twitter account that was linked on the previous page no longer exists.

The radio world is buzzing with feverish anticipation over an as-yet-untitled and unidentified superstar track that's set for release tomorrow.

We're gonna venture a guess that this is the new single from Rihanna featuring Drake, considering that savvy fans spotted a major video shoot happening overnight at L.A.'s Eagle Rock Plaza just a few weeks ago.

Word is iHeart and CBS are all in from the top down and planning to go big tomorrow. We also understand iHeart has saved a slot for hourly play across its Top 40 and Rhythm properties.

Sources tell us the secrecy is so extreme around this that PDs were told by the label they would not be told the title OR artist until 15 minutes before delivery of the song—which drops at 8am EST tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

Looks great and if it's anything like the song, this should be a fun banger
Kinda sad how the braille is gone tho sad.gif

I don't mind the artwork, but that font is awful.

So is the song and album dropping on iTunes immediately after the premier?

C.R.A.P.

Posted by: Davidson Jan 27 2016, 01:04 PM

I'm enjoying it but LEAD single and a massive hit?

After all this time she could have come up with something a little less monotonous.

Posted by: AdamAloud Jan 27 2016, 01:05 PM

Posted by: joeefoster Jan 27 2016, 01:06 PM

NOT what I imagined but FFS grew on me. I can see this being a bop

Posted by: Hayzayy Jan 27 2016, 01:06 PM

It's just a bit there. I like the tropical vibe but that's the kind of song noone would bother listening twice if it weren't Rihanna.
It should be a grower once the chorus is added laugh.gif

Drake is great though wub.gif

Let's just hope there is a hell of a lot better on the album dropping Friday.

Maybe people will cherry-pick other songs over this when it drops and they will cancel this as lead? It just isn't up to it.

She legit sounds wasted on it. Drake part was good, at least.

Posted by: Atonement Jan 27 2016, 01:14 PM

I listened to it three times now and.. not a big fan. I'm sure it will grow but I can't see this be a hit, especially not in The Netherlands as we always snub her more urban tunes.

Charts don't care for her either, based on her last two singles.

Posted by: Joe. Jan 27 2016, 01:31 PM

It'll probably be falling by Friday, let's face it. I can't see it doing better than BBHMM which was and still is an instant straight up jam.

Posted by: Klumzee Jan 27 2016, 01:31 PM

This makes me feel like a speak English as a second language unsure.gif

Posted by: Davidson Jan 27 2016, 01:32 PM

It isn't just UK charts though, worldwide release date is a Friday so really she is disregarding the charts in every country.

Not really a game she should be playing right now with the performance of the previous singles and everyone getting fed up of waiting quite this long.

Posted by: *Tim Jan 27 2016, 01:33 PM

Can we just wait and seehow it does before y'all start calling it a flop tho? My timeline is going crazy over this song
People were bashing WMN as well

Posted by: Griff Jan 27 2016, 01:42 PM

Mercifully, it's not terrible but the half-hearted approach she appears intent on taking really is dismal, and she knows that people will lap it up because of who she is. She's not been a great popstar since she went back to Chris Brown.

Posted by: Cremey Jan 27 2016, 01:43 PM

💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿

Agreed with those saying Drake has the best part. Where is the chorus or the hooks?

Posted by: Iz~ Jan 27 2016, 01:59 PM

It's cool. Love her accent, that has always been why I put her on a level above other popstars. Chilled but mildly clubby vibes are clearly in, so it doesn't seem all that terrible a decision either.

Posted by: gooddelta Jan 27 2016, 02:05 PM

It's ok, I like the bassline a lot.

She sounds a bit odd on it vocally but it's an earworm due to its repetitive nature.

Obviously not one of her best though.

really liking this though it does remind me of something kelly rowland would release off one of her flop records crossed with 'take care' in parts....

Posted by: Iz~ Jan 27 2016, 02:18 PM

Take Care with the inflections turned up was pretty much all I could think of but I didn't want to say it in case that seemed too obvious just because it's another Ri/Drake collab.

Nothing like Take Care. It's pretty awful.

Posted by: burbe Jan 27 2016, 04:00 PM

It's decent but doesn't sound like a lead single or chart hit. Drake's part is really good though and I really like the chorus even if it's a bit monotonous and she sounds high with all the vocal slurring.

Posted by: Virginia's Walls Jan 27 2016, 04:10 PM

Drake's bit is as shit as the rest of it.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Jan 27 2016, 04:16 PM

Absolutely horrific on first listen, this better be a grower or I think i've lost all my Anticipation for this era sad.gif

Posted by: Virginia's Walls Jan 27 2016, 04:20 PM

You tell em, Sam!!

Nope Drake's part isn't better. Nope it's not like Take Care.

Posted by: JosephStyles Jan 27 2016, 04:56 PM

Well this is far from her best for me but then I've loved very little Rihanna post-Disturbia. It's much better than FourFiveSeconds, BBHMM and American Oxygen for me, which doesn't say much but I don't think it deserves all the hate it's getting! Fairly decent song.

Could do without Drake though.

Posted by: Taylor Jago Jan 27 2016, 05:06 PM

This is terrible! What is wrong with her?

I've completely lost hope in Rihanna now. ANTI is an album I'd rather never have to hear.

Still, at least Russian Roulette, Disturbia, Only Girl (In The World), Diamonds, We Found Love and the like exist.

Posted by: Cameron Jan 27 2016, 05:07 PM

Oh my goodness at these piss poor vocals.

This is really shit, sorry. She sounds like she has given up singing in the chorus

i don't get this

Posted by: Liаm Jan 27 2016, 06:21 PM

This is good but nothing amazing. Kelly Rowland is quite a good comparison, it's like an album track from her. It might grow but it's MILES better than American oxygen and I probably prefer it to BBHMM too. FFS is the best from this era so far though.

Posted by: Atonement Jan 27 2016, 08:00 PM

I don't think this'll grow on me tbh. Urban Rihanna is fine with me but her (big lead) singles need to be pop smashes and this is not that.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 27 2016, 08:35 PM

Hmm... it's very "track 8" on the album, isn't it? I like it, but I don't like it anywhere near as much as I should for a Rihanna song! It's NOT a hit at all and despite it's repetitive chorus/hook, I don't think it's particularly catchy?

It's alright, but I really wanted a BANGER! Oh RiRi cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

---

You know if she released 'American Oxygen' and now this and she has BETTER on her album. I'm going to be frustrated. I kinda want the album to be poor (with the exceptions of FFS & BBHMM - and maybe one or two other tracks) just so she flops majorly with it and resorts back to the chart smashes! Like, there's nothing wrong with this sort of sound, but this is NOT something you lead an album with. sad.gif

Posted by: burbe Jan 27 2016, 08:38 PM

It makes me worry for the quality of the album if she's been away for this long and the best she could come back with for the lead single is this.

Posted by: Hayzayy Jan 27 2016, 09:32 PM

A few more listens tonight and I just can't get into it, it's so empty of both style and substance. I liked the tropical vibe on first listen but now I can't even hear that vibe. It's like a light, stripped and boring re-edition of "Cheerleader"/"Sorry". I'd be surprised to see it becoming a hit beyond the initial hype.

Oh Riri. sad.gif

Exactly how I feel. It's definitely like the "quite good" reggae bop on the album (it's not a CAREER DEFINING smash like Man Down x). And I'm really not that hyped for Anti because I think if there was something better, she'd release it.

Wurwurwurwurwur

Posted by: jark Jan 27 2016, 11:08 PM

It's fine, might grow, will never be among her best or even her second-tier singles though. It's so weird to see her floundering like this even a year after she aborted R8. Seems like she's become stuck in some pretension of being an artiste but just doesn't have the tunes or the ideas to back it up.

In other words, just give us bloody LOUD Vol 2, Riri.

Posted by: Robot Jan 27 2016, 11:20 PM

Gah, this is frustrating. After the wait, I really thought she'd break out with something spectacular but this is just really poor. I love Bitch Better Have My Money and it's easily my favourite of the era so it's nothing against urban-RiRi but this is actually just really annoying. The 'wuhwuhwuhwuhwuh' in her nasally tone (which isn't usually a problem at all) is really grating by the time you get to the end of the song and Drake is the only thing to relieve you from it. His bit is decent.

Like, seriously poor. If it does become a grower, fair play, but this just feels beyond disappointing and lazy.

http://tidal.com/#!/ca

It's decent as an ALBUM TRACK tbh. The Drake part is useless and why do loadsa rappers start 'Yea ... ok!' wacko.gif His part is the worst. It reminds me of youtube commentators qhy used to ask why Drake and not others got famous.

Guatemala don't wanna WERWERWERWERWERWER

Posted by: •Josh• Jan 28 2016, 03:32 PM

This is already becoming a Rihanna classic for me and creeping up my rankings with every listen, that chorus is one of her catchiest yet music.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 28 2016, 03:42 PM

The annoying thing about this is the beat/production is actually kind of good (reminds me of 'Feelin' Myself'), but it's just that chorus and the fact she sounds like she's in a K-hole throughout the whole thing.

Posted by: Cameron Jan 28 2016, 04:29 PM

I apologize, this is actually a bit of a bop laugh.gif

Posted by: Mack Jan 28 2016, 04:36 PM

Not really complaining though. This is all right from her although she has done better.

She now ties Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Elton John for the fifth-most top 10s in the Hot 100's history. (Madonna leads with 38.) “Work” is Rihanna’s milestone 50th Hot 100 hit"

An okay song, hasn't quite grown on me just yet. But still it's better than some of the singles from her last album such as (Stay, What Now & Pour It Up). Also including "American Oxygen" & "Bitch Better Have My Money" from last year also, they just didn't do anything for me.

Two videos ohmy.gif Both are such non-events though. This is not the same artist who produced the incredible BBHMM video.

Posted by: Hayzayy Feb 22 2016, 06:05 PM

Rihanna has become a caricature of herself. The video is as painful to watch as watching an episode of Geordie Shore, the only difference is that she really thinks she's doing art.
Alcohol, drugs and cheap sex, that's what it sells to people. Great. Now let's go back watching Beyoncé's video.

(also ppl saying it's not a very exciting video / such a non event - I really think the two videos suit the song more than some structured storylined one would. just letting loose in da club n that's it and that's basically what I get from the song)

Posted by: troylovesmusic Feb 22 2016, 07:02 PM

I LOVE both videos yeah there both very simple but they fit the vibe of the song so well and in both very different ways . The 1st one fits the Carribean cultral vibe to it where as the 2nd one is more intimate with just her and Drake. I don't really think think the song needed a big high budget video either tbh it just needed a video that suited the vibe of the song and both videos acheived that !

I like both videos although they're not the most eventful, I think the first is probably my favourite because it has a bit more going on, she just has so much swagger.

At first I thought the second one was gonna be for TV 'cause there is less drugs etc. but then I realised the video had more of her nips in it than her face laugh.gif

It is SLAYING so much right now. Rihanna denying the flop claims yet again and the album is stabil around the world as well. E.G. In The Netherlands her previous albums fell out of the top 10 almost straight away, while Anti is still stop 10 after 4 weeks

Posted by: joeefoster Feb 29 2016, 01:48 AM

On first listen this was so average and I think everyone held it at a high standard because we'd been waiting so long for Anti but now I literally can't get enough for it. Nice to see she's overtaken Lukas Graham on Spotify and hopefully is closing the gap to number one! This ERA looks so much better now she's got a number 1 in the US, her album placing in the UK tho needs a boost

Posted by: burbe Feb 29 2016, 11:30 PM

Posted by: Wall Mar 22 2016, 02:57 PM

Hm, I like 'Work' but it doesn't deserve to be the worldwide smash that it is. I'm hoping 'Kiss It Better' does well worldwide! In comparison to the other massive pop females, I would say Rihanna is my least favourite, I don't go back to her songs as much as I do with the others.

The album's performance in the UK is incredibly woeful though, I thought it's opening sales would have outsold it's current total.

Rihanna's always going to have a successful single if the song appeals towards radio stations? If anybody else released this song it would get nowhere near the same coverage and airplay. I'm aware that BBHMM and AO never performed as well as it should have worldwide but neither were pushed like FFS and 'Work'.

Posted by: *Tim Mar 22 2016, 03:30 PM

Yeah but despite it being pushed, there needs to be public interests. Its callout scores on radio were great and it's been selling really well. The fact that her name (which was kinda tarnished by her flops) helped the song a bit, doesn't take away from hoe deserved its success was imo

Almost one year on since it's release, what's everyone's opinions on arguably the most divisive single in Rihanna's discography?

Personally I loved it straight away and it still sounds as fresh as it did a year ago. A bit gutted it never managed to make number 1 here in the UK but it's success in the States was phenomenal! Probably one of her signature tunes already.

Posted by: burbe Jan 11 2017, 04:51 PM

I remember being disappointed at first because as urban bangers go, BBHMM is her best. But when I kept hearing this out if became basically my favourite of 2016 very quickly.

It's within my top 5 songs from her: Man Down > Diamonds > BBHMM > What's My Name > Work

Posted by: Tinasha Jan 11 2017, 04:55 PM

I do like Work but could never bring myself to love it, I do much prefer the Lost Kings remix for some reason.

I really think 'Love on the Brain' should've been the lead single, at least in Europe. It's more of an album seller than 'Work' and I believe it's commercially more viable to release a radio friendly song first and then a streaming friendly song*.

Of course this is speculation but I really think it would've helped to release LOTB first. Not that Anti hasn't performed very well in Europe regardless (except the UK).

*I think so because radio friendly first singles like 'Love on the Brain' would've have got a streaming boost for being ''the big, new single'' that it's not getting now as a fourth. Also, I noticed that radio is hesitant to play LOTB, at least here in the Netherlands, most likely because she alienated us by releasing urban singles from Anti first (and I believe this is true for the whole of Europe). On the other hand I think 'Work' would've performed poorly on radio and very well on streaming regardless of when it was released.
