Hope I'm allowed to post this here - I missed this at the time because I was at work but it's fire! The most irreverant chart show ever? I can forgive his indie snobbery as he was entertaining even when slagging off things I now love even if I wasn't bothered then. They should have let him do it more!

"Keep it Radio 1 to hear it first before the dullards tune into inferior charts on tinpot channels"

I skipped over this and while there are quite a few classics in the chart, there is a lot of crap, like what the hell is that S Club Junior song? I gotta say I much prefer the music in charts today

Okay, thanks. This is such a fun listen in any case.

"S Club Juniors now - must be weird for S Club 7 to see youngsters doing their job, as us middle-aged Radio 1 DJs will once be painfully aware".

Lots of 2002 pop is generally much cheesier than it is now. Lots of S Club, Cheeky Girls, Las Ketchup etc. But here's Put Him Out off of Ms Dynamite - a stone-cold classic!

Great presentation indeed from Mark, the chart itself is slightly odd - Rainbow, Declan, Russell Watson, Cheeky Girls etc...lots of novelty and charity records but then it was the week before Christmas.

The new entries from Gareth Gates and S Club Juniors were dire, while P!nk and Holly Valance deserved better, but not exactly a vintage week for new releases.

It’s so weird to think a songs as well regarded as Family Portrait stalled outside the top 10 when the Gareth Gates and S Club Juniors songs are long forgotten.

Thought for a moment you meant the rock band Rainbow of 'Since You've Been Gone' fame got a low top 40 hit in 2002 which I didn't know about (or a re-entry for SYBG), but of course you mean childrens show Rainbow.

50 years of the official chart. The BBC celebrate by sacking Mark Goodier and we have several months of guest presenters including Jo Whiley, Sara Cox, Chris Moyles, Mark Radcliffe and of course Scott Mills amongst others, then introduce a new presenter in the name of Wes Butters and a new format for the show.

Couldn't agree more. Scott is good at doing the chart too to be fair to him, he was the main cover for the Chart Show so is cut from the same cloth as Mark Goodier, but the producers want the shouts of Sarah from Leeds wants this to be Number 1 and Dave from Bristol wants this to be Number 1 every link and it gets on my nerves.

Mark Goodier does a show on Greatest Hits Radio on a Sunday evening between 5 and 7pm 'Now That's What I Call A Chart show' where he chooses 2 different years and plays one of the biggest selling singles from each month in that year. Not really a chart show, but he does give out some useful information about the tracks and does play a few forgotten favourites too.

Many thanks for this. Really enjoy listening to these! Great show and some great tracks from the likes of Jakatta, Feeder, Ash and of course Stereophonics which Radio 1 were plugging their special gig like mad during the show.

I used to love listening to Mark and Lard back in the early 2000s - I first heard them when I was on work experience and they had R1 on in the afternoons, think it was 1pm- 3pm before Chris Moyles! Those were the days -and they actually had on a Friday the 'Chart Forecast' which was a spoof of the Shipping Forecast predicting what would be in that week's Top 40.

Ratings were down and they wanted a younger demographic and he didn’t fit the bill.

It’s such a shame. For almost two decades the chart has been trying to capture the youth and its almost always been disastrous. Mark a Goodier had a real passion for the chart and I don’t think anyone since has been the same. Scott Mills is arguably the closest but I doubt he’s cared about the chart for years.

Some of you heard him present this weeks number 1 with Jack Saunders (Friday) and I thought I'd tag in Mark Goodier's last chart on Radio 1 as it's just passed 20 years - from November 17 2002!

Going through listening to another retro chart from nearly 23 years with this chart from Sept 17th. A lot of new entries from this particular chart from Kylie, Aurora, Sugababes, Vanessa Amarosi and Sash. All of those being inside the top 10!
