SO SO happy to see Cunk on Shakespeare, Charlie Brooker's Wipe and especially Diane Morgan being recognised!!
Fleabag and National Treasure's nominations were to be expected after all the critic's love for them, bit surprising that there's no nominations for Julie Walters or Andrea Riseborough for the latter though! Bit of a shock that Matt Smith isn't nominated for The Crown either, considering it has 4 other acting nominations. Glad to see the nomination for Sarah Lancashire too as well as the recognition for Flowers which seemed to go under the radar because of its broadcast over a week! I wanted to see Hypernormalisation but by the time I got round to it, it had been removed. I hope they reupload it after it's nomination, its something they've done before I think! Daniel May's nomination for Line of Duty is a bit unexpected for reasons I won't go into Odd that there's only one nomination for The Night Manager, and for supporting actor that is not Hugh Laurie at that! It won three Golden Globes for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman and Hugh Laurie so the discrepancy here is a bit strange. Its not as though they don't love Olivia Colman either, especially with her nomination for Fleabag. The Virgin TV's Must See Moment is a bit of an eyeroll category, not in regards to the nominations because they do fit the category but the category's existence just screams appeal to the social media age. It seems that this is just an essential requirement in EVERYTHING nowadays and its almost appealing to the lowest common denominator. Imagine if Ed Balls performing Gangam Style wins a BAFTA?!? |

No Coronation Street for best soap nominated. Is that the first time they haven't been nominated for it?

No Coronation Street for best soap nominated. Is that the first time they haven't been nominated for it? Just had a quick look and in 2009 they weren't nominated for Continuing Drama (The Bill, Casualty, EastEnders, Emmerdale) but they were for the Audience Award! It is quite a blow for the soap, especially when they've won more than once in the recent years. |

I didn't see this live, but that looks a fantastic list of winners! Charlie Brooker's Wipe finally being recognised I wonder why this year more than others? (I guess 2016 was a satirist's dream). Eek at the Crown snub though, thought it would at least get an acting one.
Planet Earth II winning both is great too, who'd have thought a scene centred on snakes and iguanas with no people featuring at all could be the public's favourite moment of the year?! This post has been edited by Chez Wombat: 15th May 2017, 05:34 PM |

Woohoo for Happy Valley and Sarah Lancashire ! Deserves every award it gets.
I wish Unforgotten (starring Nicola Walker) was as well known - I enjoy that show just as much. Birrova unknown gem, I feel. |
