FIRST ESC 2018 THREAD IS UP LET'S DO THIS!

France are reportedly going back to a National Final in January after having two top-10 televotes in a row which for France a few years ago would have been considered near impossible. Will be interesting to see if they can turn this new momentum they've got behind them into something good!

Well the last entry they chose by public vote was 'Moustache' which was incredible so I'm not worried at all!

The first semi final is tonight featuring the following acts:

Masoe - Paradise
Noée - L'un près de l'autre
Lisandro Cuxi - Eva
Malo - Ciao
Emmy Liyana - OK ou KO
Enéa - I'll Be There
Pheno Men - Jamais sans toi
Louka - Mamma Mia
Ehla - J'ai cru

I'm so exicted for this selection, France have really put together a fantastic selection going on the snippets.

The first 4 qualifiers are:

Lisandro Cuxi - Eva
Malo - Ciao
Emmy Liyana - OK ou KO
Louka - Mamma Mia

A really slick and polished show from France tonight, the songs were mostly brilliant and very contemporary - thoroughly enjoyed it!

More people should have watched this, it was really good. I didn't watch France's last national selection but I can't imagine that this is anything but a major upgrade, and it's so much better than the UK's selection. I really liked the judges in particular, and enjoyed their willingness to actually criticise. Felt a bit bad for Amir after Isobel and Christophe randomly decided to pair up.

The song selection was good, though the quality of the performers was a bit more dodgy. Louka was absolutely dire. Super happy for Emmy in particular. Videos of the qualifiers if anyone is interested (would recommend Emmy for BuzzJack):

Agree with the comments about the quality of the field and production, France are an interesting parallel to the UK as far as "Big 5 country trying to revive their fortunes by switching up their selection method" - suspect France will have the last laugh though. Eva sounds like something that could do very well for them!

Zazie co-wrote Emmy's song which is why it slays.

Lisandro's song is really good as well, so I'm happy they're both through. Not really fussed on the other two tbh.

This is the first non-Swedish NF I’ve properly watched and I agree this is generally very high quality. Emmy was fantastic and hope it can somehow make it to Lisbon. Lisandro is also very strong but it’s not quite “special” enough imo. Of course, if the UK sent it, I would be ecstatic!

Personally I'll be supporting June The Girl next week but I am excited for your two as well. I heard Nassi is awful live though.

june the girl does sound pretty good from the snippets.

anyway, Emmy SLAYED. if she margaret berger'd it up in the face and attitude it would be complete package *.*

Eva is a pretty good song and Lisandro seems very charismatic so I wouldn't mind him winning but plz Emmy~

Has to be Lisandro wub.gif Easily the best of the bunch but Emmy is solid enough, OK ou KO might be one that grows instead. Really liked Louka too, good lord at Malo' getting through though :/

Final 4 qualifiers are:

Madame Monsieur - Mercy
Nassi - Rêves de gamin
Igit - Lisboa Jérusalem
Max Cinnamon - Ailleurs

Super pleased Nassi made it through despite some dodgy vocals, it's by far my favourite studio version and the staging was very good as well!

It's such a shame how awful 'Same' is in full, as it had an amazing snippet. So very happy that 'Mercy' won the semi, and the rest of the qualifiers in this semi were great too. I think 'Eva' has the final in the bag, though I could see 'Ailleurs' running it close.

TOMORROW'S NATIONAL FINAL...
FRANCE

Destination Eurovision

27th January 2018
Begins at 8pm in the UK and 9pm in France.
The show is scheduled to last 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Watch the selection via the official Destination Eurovision YouTube channel.

Running order
01. Louka - Mamma Mia
02. Igit - Lisboa Jérusalem
03. Emmy Liyana - OK ou KO
04. Madame Monsieur - Mercy
05. Lisandro Cuxi - Eva
06. Max Cinnamon - Ailleurs
07. Nassi - Rêves de gamin
08. Malo' - Ciao

Voting format
The winner will be decided by 50% international jury voting and 50% televoting. There will be 10 international juries from Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Finland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland.

The favourites to win
The odds suggest a close battle between fan favourites Madame Monsieur and Lisandro Cuxi. Both songs won the international jury votes in their respective semi finals, but they will now need to win over the support of the televoters too.
